Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 alpha ($eIF2{\alpha}$), which is a component of the eukaryotic translation initiation complex, functions in cell death and survival under various stress conditions. In this study, we investigated the roles of $eIF2{\alpha}$ phosphorylation in cell death using the breast cancer cell lines MCF-7 and MCF-7/ADR. MCF-7/ADR cells are MCF-7-driven cells that have acquired resistance to doxorubicin (ADR). Treatment of doxorubicin reduced the viability and induced apoptosis in both cell lines, although susceptibility to the drug was very different. Treatment with doxorubicin induced phosphorylation of $eIF2{\alpha}$ in MCF-7 cells but not in MCF-7/ADR cells. Basal expression levels of Growth Arrest and DNA Damage 34 (GADD34), a regulator of $eIF2{\alpha}$, were higher in MCF-7/ADR cells compared to MCF-7 cells. Indeed, treatment with salubrinal, an inhibitor of GADD34, resulted in the upregulation of $eIF2{\alpha}$ phosphorylation and enhanced doxorubicin-mediated apoptosis in MCF-7/ADR cells. However, MCF-7 cells did not show such synergic effects. These results suggest that dephosphorylation of $eIF2{\alpha}$ by GADD34 plays an important role in doxorubicin resistance in MCF-7/ADR cells.

In this paper, we prove that if K is a convex body in $E^n$ and $E_i$ and $E_o$ are inscribed ellipsoid and circumscribed ellipsoid of K respectively with ${\alpha}E_i=E_o$, then $\[({\alpha})^{\frac{n}{p}+1}\]^n{\omega}^2_n{\geq}V(K)V({\Gamma}^{\ast}_pK){\geq}\[(\frac{1}{\alpha})^{\frac{n}{p}+1}\]^n{\omega}^2_n$. Lutwak and Zhang[6] proved that if K is a convex body, ${\omega}^2_n=V(K)V({\Gamma}_pK)$ if and only if K is an ellipsoid. Our inequality provides very elementary proof for their result and this in turn gives a lower bound of the volume product for the sets of constant width.

The main result of this paper is a characterization of almost projective modules over art in algebras by means of irreducible maps and almost split sequences. A module X is an almost projective module if and only if it has a presentation $0{\longrightarrow}L{\longrightarrow^{\alpha}}P{\longrightarrow}X{\longrightarrow}0$ with projective module P and irreducible maps ${\alpha}$. Let X be an injective almost projective non simple module and $0{\rightarrow}Dtr(x){\rightarrow}E{\rightarrow}X{\rightarrow}0$ be an almost split sequence. If $E=E_1{\oplus}E_2$ is a direct decomposition of indecomposable modules then ${\ell}(X)=3$.

The Integrated Stress Response (ISR) refers to a signaling pathway initiated by stress-activated $eIF2{\alpha}$ kinases. Once activated, the pathway causes attenuation of global mRNA translation while also paradoxically inducing stress response gene expression. A detailed analysis of this pathway has helped us better understand how stressed cells coordinate gene expression at translational and transcriptional levels. The translational attenuation associated with this pathway has been largely attributed to the phosphorylation of the translational initiation factor $eIF2{\alpha}$. However, independent studies are now pointing to a second translational regulation step involving a downstream ISR target, 4E-BP, in the inhibition of eIF4E and specifically cap-dependent translation. The activation of 4E-BP is consistent with previous reports implicating the roles of 4E-BP resistant, Internal Ribosome Entry Site (IRES) dependent translation in ISR active cells. In this review, we provide an overview of the translation inhibition mechanisms engaged by the ISR and how they impact the translation of stress response genes.

Let R be a prime ring with characteristics not 2 and ${\sigma},\;{\tau},\;{\alpha},\;{\beta}$ be auto-morphisms of R. Suppose that $d_1$ is a (${\sigma},\;{\tau}$)-derivation and $d_2$ is a (${\alpha},\;{\beta}$)-derivation on R such that $d_{2}{\alpha}\;=\;{\alpha}d_2,\;d_2{\beta}\;=\;{\beta}d_2$. In this note it is shown that; (1) If $d_1d_2$(R) = 0 then $d_1$ = 0 or $d_2$ = 0. (2) If [$d_1(R),d_2(R)$] = 0 then R is commutative. (3) If($d_1(R),d_2(R)$) = 0 then R is commutative. (4) If $[d_1(R),d_2(R)]_{\sigma,\tau}$ = 0 then R is commutative.

대장균의 lipoprotein promoter, lactose promotor 및 operator 와 lipoprotein의 signal sequence 를 가지는 vector에alpha-IFN 유전자가 cloning된 plasmid pIF-Ill-B를 여러종류의 대장균 숙주 세포에 형칠전환하여 alpha-IFN 의 생산성, 생장특성을 조사하였다. 또한 plasmid 자체와 cloning된 alpha-IFN 유전자의 발현유도가 세포생장에 미치는 영 향을 조사하였다.

For a ring endomorphism $\alpha$ and an $\alpha$-derivation $\delta$, we introduce ($\alpha$, $\delta$)-skew Armendariz rings which are a generalization of $\alpha$-rigid rings and Armendariz rings, and investigate their properties. A semi prime left Goldie ring is $\alpha$-weak Armendariz if and only if it is $\alpha$-rigid. Moreover, we study on the relationship between the Baerness and p.p. property of a ring R and these of the skew polynomial ring R[x; $\alpha$, $\delta$] in case R is ($\alpha$, $\delta$)-skew Armendariz. As a consequence we obtain a generalization of [11], [14] and [16].

대장균의 lipoprotein promoter, lac UV5 promoter 및 operator와 lipoprotein의 signal sequence를 가지는 vector에 alpha-IFN유전자를 cloning함으로써 제작된 plasmid plF-III-B와 plF-III-C를 여러종류의 대장균 숙주 세포에 형질 전환하여 IFN의 생산성을 조사해 본 결과 $lpp^-$형질을 가지는 JE5505가 가장 우수했으며, 기존 plasmid, Hif-2h에 비해 130배 높은 생산성을 보였다. 또한 생산된 IFN의 약 50%가 세포 외부로 분비됨을 확인하였다.

We consider zero range processes with density dependent jump rates g given by $g=g(n,k)=g_1(n)g_2(k/n)$ with $g_1(x)=x^{-\alpha}$ and $$g_2(x)=\{^{x^{-\alpha}\;if\;a&lt;x}_{Mx^{-\alpha}\;if\;x{\leq}a}$$. (0.1) In this case, with 1/2 < a < 1 and ${\alpha}$ > 0, we show that non-complete condensation occurs with maximum cluster size an. More precisely, for any ${\epsilon}$ > 0, there exists $M^*$ > 0 such that, for any 0 < M ${\leq}M^*$, the maximum cluster size is between (a - ${\epsilon}$)n and (a + ${\epsilon}$)n for large n. This provides a simple example of non-complete condensation under perturbation of rates which are deep in the range of perfect condensation (e.g. ${\alpha}$ >> 1) and supports the instability of the condensation transition.
