Effect of trans-10, cis-12 Conjugated Linoleic Acid on Calcium-Dependent Reactive Oxygen Species and Nitric Oxide Production and Nuclear Factor-${\kappa}B$ Activation in Lipopolysaccharide-Stimulated RAW 264.7 Cells (LPS 자극 RAW 264.7 세포에 있어서 칼슘의존성 ROS와 NO 생산 및 NF-${\kappa}B$ 활성에 대한 CLA의 억제효과)

  • Trans-10, cis-12-conjugated linoleic acid (t10c12-CLA) has been shown to participate in the regulation of anti-inflammatory effects. The objectives of this study were to examine the effects of t10c12-CLA on reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitric oxide (NO) production and nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-${\kappa}B$) activation in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells and to determine whether these effects were associated with change of intracellular calcium ion ($Ca^{2+}$). ROS production was increased in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells, and this effect was suppressed by 1,2-bis-(o-aminophenoxy) ethane-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid-acetoxymethyl ester (BAPTA/AM), a calcium chelator. t10c12-CLA suppressed ROS production in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells, which was further more decreased by treatment with BAPTA/AM. These indicated that t10c12-CLA decreases $Ca^{2+}$-dependent ROS production in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. Similarly, NF-${\kappa}B$ p65 DNA binding activity and NO production were decreased by treatment with either t10c12-CLA, BAPTA/AM, or t10c12-CLA and BAPTA/AM combination. However, there were no differences between t10c12-CLA and BAPTA/AM treatment in NO production of LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. These data indicate that t10c12-CLA inhibits the increases in ROS and NO production and the NF-${\kappa}B$ activation in LPS-stimulated condition. These results suggested that CLA exerts potent anti-inflammatory effects by suppression of LPS-induced ROS and NO production, and NF-${\kappa}B$ activationn via $Ca^{2+}$-dependent pathway.

  • Maximum adsorption amount of the mixed culture, $2.06{\times}10^{11} cells/g$ is closed to the sum of that of each bacterial component: $1.39{\times}10^{11}cells/g$ for T. ferrooxidans and $1.08{\times}10^{11}cells/g$ for T. thiooxidans. These indicate that the two bacterial species have almost independent preferential adsorption sites on furnace dust. However, the efficiency of leaching, 35% for mixture, 45% for T.f. and 30% for T.t., was not linearly related to the ratio of adsorption in three different systems even though it was increased in parallel with the bacterial adsorption in the same system.

  • The electrical characteristics of Al/TaS12TOS15T/SiOS12T/Si metal insulator-semiconductor (MIS) capacitors were studied. Tantalum pentoxide thin films on SiOS12T/p-Si substrate have been prepared by thermal oxidation at 450-$600^{\circ}C$ of sputter deposited tantalum films. Composition and structures of the tantalum oxide films were examined by AES and XRD. From the C-V analysis, dielectric constant of TaS12TOS15T which were oxidized at 55$0^{\circ}C$ for 1h in OS12T were 18-23, the value depending on the oxidation and annealing temperature. The leakage current density was found to be about 10S0-10T-10S0-9T A/cmS02T at an applied electric field of 1 MV/cm. The dielectric breakdown strength of the tantalum oxide films annealed at 100$0^{\circ}C$ were in the range from 2.5MV/cm to 2.8 MV/cm.

  • It has been proved that the union of two linear star-configurations in $\mathbb{P}^2$ of type s and t for either $3{\leq}t{\leq}10$ or $\(\frac{t}{2}\)-1{\leq}s$ with $3{\leq}t$ has maximal Hilbert function. We extend the condition to $\[\frac{1}{2}\(\frac{t}{2}\)\]{\leq}s$, so that it is true for either $3{\leq}t{\leq}10$ or $\[\frac{1}{2}\(\frac{t}{2}\)\]{\leq}s$ with $3{\leq}t$, which extends the result of [6].

A Study for Identification of Nursing Diagnosis using the Roy's Adaptation Model in Maternity Unit (Roy's Adaptation Model에 의한 모성영역에서의 간호진단 확인연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the meaningful nursing diagnosis in maternity unit and to suggest formally the basal data to the nursing service with scientific approach. The subject for this paper were 64 patients who admitted to Chung Ang University Hospital, Located in Seoul, from Mar. 10, to July 21, 1993. The results were as follows: 1. The number of nursing diagnosis from 64 patients were 892 and average number of nursing diagnosis per patient was 13.9. 2. Applying the division of nursing diagnosis to Roy's Adaptation Model, determined nursing diagnosis from the 64 patients were 621 (69.6%) in physiological adaptation mode and (Comfort, altered r/t), (Injury, potential for r/t), (Infection, potential for r/t), (Bowel elimination, altered patterns r/t), (Breathing pattern, ineffective r/t), (Nutrition, altered r/t less than body requirement) in order, and 139 (15.6%) in role function mode, (Self care deficit r/t), (Knowledge deficit r/t), (Mobility, impaired physical r/t) in order, 122 (13.7%) in interdependence adaptation mode, (Anxiety r/t), (Family Process, altered r/t) in order, 10(1.1%) in self concept adaptation mode, (Powerlessness r/t), (Grieving, dysfunctional r/t) in order. 3. Nursing diagnosis in maternity unit by the medical diagnosis, the average hospital dates were 3.8 days in normal delivery and majority of used nursing diagnosis, (Comfort, altered r/t) 64.6%, (Self care deficit r/t) 13.6% in order, and the average hospital dates were 9.6 days in cesarean section delivery and majority of used nursing diagnosis, (Comfort, altered r/t) 51.6%, (Self care deficit r/t) 15.2%, (Infection, potential for r/t) 9.9%, (Injury, potential "for r/t) 8.1%, (Anxiety r/t) 5.0%, (Mobility, impaired physical r/t) 3.3% in order, and the average hospital dates were 15.8days in preterm labor and majority of used nursing diagnosis, (Comfort, altered r/ t), (Anxiety r/t), (Injury, potential for r/t) in order, and the average short-term hospital dates were 2.5days, long-term hospital dates were 11.5days in gynecologic diseases and majority of used nursing diagnosis, (Comfort, altered r/t). Effect of Dietary Cracked Whole Barley on the Meat Compositional Properties of Hanwoo Steer Loin Beef (분쇄 통보리 급여 수준이 거세한우의 등심부위의 성분 조성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of the feeding level of cracked whole barley (CWB) on fatty acid composition, free amino acid content, organic acid content, pH, HDL cholesterol, total phenol and DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging activity of finishing Hanwoo steers. The dietary treatments were consisted of five types (C: base feed + 0% CWB, T1: base feed + 10% CWB, T2: base feed + 20% CWB, T3: base feed + 30% CWB, T4: base feed + 40% CWB). A total 30 Hanwoo steers(588.6${\pm}$11.8kg) were allocated into 5 feeding groups, and a total of thirty Hanwoo steers raised from 24 to 30 months. Linoleic acid of fatty acid composition was significantly higher for cracked CWB treatments (T1, T2, T3, and T4) than C, and T3 of CWB treatments was the highest than the other treatments (P<0.01). SFA, USFA, MUFA and USFA/SFA did not differ among the treatments. On the contrary, PUFA was significantly higher for CWB treatments(T1, T2, T3, and T4) than C, and T3 was the highest (P<0.05). EAA was higher in the order of T1 > T2 > C > T3 > T4 (P<0.05). NEAA was higher in the order of T2 >T3 >T1 >C >T4, although a statistical significance was not detected. The total organic acid content was the highest for T3 (20.15 mg/100g) and the lowest for T2 (13.19mg/100g). pH and total phenol of all treatments were did not differ. HDL cholesterol was higher in the order of T1 > C > T4 > T2 > T3 (P<0.01). DPPH radical scavenging activity was in order of T1 > T2 >T4 > C > T3 (P<0.01). Based on the above results, T1 treatment compared to other treatments have been shown to improve EAA, DHL, and DPPH radical scavenging activity.

Experimental Study on Tensile Fatigue Strength of the High Strength Bolts (고장력볼트의 인장피로강도에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • New high strength bolts are required due to the development of the high strength steel, the ultra-thick steel plates, and the long-span bridge, though high strength bolts with tensile strength of 1,000 MPa are mainly used in construction site of every country. The high strength bolts are often subjected to a repeated tension-type of loading in which the fatigue failure is a major mode of failure. However, the theoretical and experimental study for the fatigue failure of tension bolt has not been well established in Korea. In this study, we performed a tensile fatigue test of F8T, F10T and F13T, F13T-N high strength bolts under tension. We proposed three fatigue strength specifications by performing 95% survival probability analysis for F8T, F10T, F13T, and F13T-N bolt under the $2{\times}10^6$ cycles of repeated loading. And the fatigue strength for the advanced screw thread shape bolt developed in this study are compared with the previous KS screw thread shape bolt.

Influential Factor of Life Satisfaction based on Types of Baby Boomer Generation (베이비부머세대의 유형별 삶의 만족 영향 요인)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the multidimensional factors that affect the satisfaction of life by type of baby boomer generation. The subjects of this study were 1,895 households who were born from 1955 to 1963 among the respondents in the Korea welfare panel (the 10th year). The baby boomer generation was classified into four types such as gender, income status, male and female as socioeconomic status. The male type IV (B=.074, t=1.992, p<.05), health status (B=.233, t=7.268, p<.001), household income (B=.174, t=4.476, p<.001), depression (B=-.182, t=-5.242, p<.001), self-esteem (B=.255, t=7.027, p<.001), trust (B=.064, t=2.036, p<.05), etc. were found to have a significant effect on the life satisfaction of the male baby boomer generation. The female type IV (B=.100, t=2.598, p<.05), health status (B=.239, t=6.790, p<.001) (P<.001), depression (B=-.181, t=-5.142, p<.001), and self-esteem (B=.320, t=8.600, p<.001), etc. were found to have a significant effect on the life satisfaction of the female baby boomer generation.

  • Starting from a t-norm T, it is possible to construct a class of new t-norms, so-called T-generalized t-norm. The purpose of this paper is to describe some properties of this class of generalized t-norms. An algebraic structure as well as a binary relation among t-norms are also investigated. Some open problems are discussed as well.
