  • Let (R,m) be a commutative Noetherian local ring. In this paper we show that a finitely generated R-module M of dimension d is Cohen-Macaulay if and only if there exists a proper ideal I of R such that depth($M/I^nM$) = d for $n{\gg}0$. Also we show that, if dim(R) = d and $I_1{\subset}\;{\cdots}\;{\subset}I_n$ is a chain of ideals of R such that $R/I_k$ is maximal Cohen-Macaulay for all k, then $n{\leq}{\ell}_R(R/(a_1,{\ldots},a_d)R)$ for every system of parameters $a1,{\ldots},a_d$ of R. Also, in the case where dim(R) = 2, we prove that the ideal transform $D_m(R/p)$ is minimax balanced big Cohen-Macaulay, for every $p{\in}Assh_R$(R), and we give some equivalent conditions for this ideal transform being maximal Cohen-Macaulay.

  • Let I be an ideal of a commutative Noetherian semi-local ring R and M be an R-module. It is shown that if dim M ≤ 2 and SuppR M ⊆ V (I), then M is I-weakly cofinite if (and only if) the R-modules HomR(R/I, M) and Ext1R(R/I, M) are weakly Laskerian. As a consequence of this result, it is shown that the category of all I-weakly cofinite modules X with dim X ≤ 2, forms an Abelian subcategory of the category of all R-modules. Finally, it is shown that if dim R/I ≤ 2, then for each pair of finitely generated R-modules M and N and each pair of the integers i, j ≥ 0, the R-modules TorRi(N, HjI(M)) and ExtiR(N, HjI(M)) are I-weakly cofinite.

  • We have previously shown that microRNAs (miRNAs) miR-760, miR-186, miR-337-3p, and miR-216b stimulate premature senescence through protein kinase CK2 (CK2) downregulation in human colon cancer cells. Here, we examined whether these four miRNAs are involved in the replicative senescence of human lung fibroblast IMR-90 cells. miR-760 and miR-186 were significantly upregulated in replicatively senescent IMR-90 cells, and their joint action with both miR-337-3p and miR-216b was necessary for efficient downregulation of the ${\alpha}$ subunit of CK2 ($CK2{\alpha}$) in IMR-90 cells. A mutation in any of the four miRNA-binding sequences within the $CK2{\alpha}3^{\prime}$-untranslated region (UTR) indicated that all four miRNAs should simultaneously bind to the target sites for $CK2{\alpha}$ downregulation. The four miRNAs increased senescence-associated ${\beta}$-galactosidase (SA-${\beta}$-gal) staining, p53 and $p21^{Cip1/WAF1}$ expression, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in proliferating IMR-90 cells. $CK2{\alpha}$ overexpression almost abolished this event. Taken together, the present results suggest that the upregulation of miR-760 and miR-186 is associated with replicative senescence in human lung fibroblast cells, and their cooperative action with miR-337-3p and miR-216b may induce replicative senescence through $CK2{\alpha}$ downregulation-dependent ROS generation.

  • Jat and Choudhari defined a near-ring R with left bipotent or right bipotent condition in 1979. Also, we can dene a near-ring R as subcommutative if aR = Ra for all a in R. From these above two concepts it is natural to investigate the near-ring R with the properties aR = $Ra^2$ (resp. $a^2R$ = Ra) for each a in R. We will say that such is a near-ring with (1,2)-potent condition (resp. a near-ring with (2,1)-potent condition). Thus, we can extend a general concept of a near-ring R with (m,n)-potent condition, that is, $a^mR\;=\;Ra^n$ for each a in R, where m, n are positive integers. We will derive properties of near-ring with (1,n) and (n,1)-potent conditions where n is a positive integer, any homomorphic image of (m,n)-potent near-ring is also (m,n)-potent, and we will obtain some characterization of regular near-rings with (m,n)-potent conditions.

  • Purpose: This study was designed to investigate the changes in soluble interleukin-2 receptor (sIL-2R) level in sera and urines of children with primary nephrotic syndrome, eliminating the confounding effects of age, proteinuria, and steroid treatment. Methods: Soluble IL-2R was measured by ELISA in sera and urines from patients with minimal change nephrotic syndrome or focal segmental glomerulosclerosis as well as from healthy controls. The serum levels and urinary sIL-2R/creatinine ratios were compared between control group and the 12 patient groups divided by their ages (0-1, 2-4, over 5 years), and presence or absence of proteinuria and/or steroid treatment (PU+Tx-, PU+Tx+, PU-Tx+, PU-Tx-). Results: Though the differences were not statistically significant probably because of the small numbers, serum sIL-2R levels seemed to be higher in younger age groups both in patients and control group. Nephrotic children did not show higher serum levels than normal children. Among the patients, proteinuric condition seemed to raise and steroid treatment tended to suppress the serum sIL-2R levels. Urinary sIL-2R/creatinine ratios were higher in younger age groups, more significantly in patients (P<0.001). Proteinuria and steroid treatment affected the urinary sIL-2R/creatinine ratios by the same way as the serum sIL-2R levels. Serum sIL-2R levels and urinary sIL-2R/creatinine ratios were not different between groups of different histologic findings or steroid responsiveness (P>0.05). Conclusion: Serum sIL-2R levels and the urinary sIL-2R/creatinine ratios were higher in younger age, and they were not higher in nephrotic patients compared to control group. The patients in relapse showed higher levels, while the levels were suppressed with steroid treatment. In proteinuric state, urinary sIL-2R/creatinine ratios reflected serum sIL-2R levels.

  • There are 25 space groups in the trigonal system. Eighteen out of them have a lattice letter P displaying only hexagonal axes, wherease the remaining seven rhombohedral space groups R3(146), $R\={3}$(148), R32(155), R3m(160), R3c(161), $R\={3}m$(166) and $R\={3}c$(167) are described with two corrdinate systems, first with hexagonal axes having three lattice points (0, 0, 0), (2/3, 1/3, 1/3), (1/3, 2/3, 2/3) and second with primitive rhombohedral axes. In this paper, the space group $R\={3}c$ is discussed and the crystal structure of a compound, tris(1,2,3,4-tetraphenylbuta-1,3-dienyl)cyclotriphosphazene, $C_{84}H_{60}N_3P_3$, belonging to the space group $R\={3}c$ is elucidated with both hexagonal and rhombohedral cells.

  • This descriptive correlational study was conducted to identify the variables related to a health promoting lifestyle in women student of high school. 286 students were selected by a convenience sampling method. The data were collected by self - reported questionnaires from 10 to July 13, 2002. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, pearson correlation coefficient, stepwise multiple regression with SPSS program. The result of this study were as follows: 1. The average score of health promoting behavior was 2.46 of a 4 point scale. Sanitary life(3.05), interpersonal support(2.80), alcohol & smoking(2.79) Self actualization(2.76), habit of meal(2.52), rest & sleeping(2.33) regulation of meal(2.30) stress management(2.05), health responsibility(1.91) were also analyzed. 2. Health promoting lifestyle showed significant positive correlations with self-esteem (r=0.446, p<0.00l), life orientation test(r=.493, P<0.0l) and score(F=6.157, P=0.002) 3. Perceived health state showed significant correlation with alcohol & smoking subscale(r=-.134, P<0.05) of health promoting lifestyle. Self-esteem showed significant correlation with total health promoting lifestyle(r=.538, P<0.01), and showed significant correlation self-actualization subscale(r=.657, P<0.01) health responsibility subscale (r=.272, P<0.01), food regulation subscale(r=.126, P<0.05), interpersonal relationship subscale (r=.468, P<0.0l), stress management subscale(r=.349, P<0.01) sanitary life subscale (r=.282, P<0.01) sleep & rest subscale(r=.123, P<0.05). Life orientation test showed significant correlation with total health promoting lifestyle(r=.493, p<0.01), selfactualization subscale(r=.643, p<0.01) health responsibility subscale(r=.192, P<0.0l), habit of meal subscale(r=.215, p<0.01), interpersonal relationship subscale(r=.423, p<0.01), stress management subscale(r=.345, p<0.01) sanitary life subscale(r=.191, p<0.01) sleep & rest subscale(r=.137, P<0.05). Stress response showed significant correlation with sleep & rest subscale(r=-.137, P<0.05) of health promoting lifestyle. 4. The combination of self-esteem. life orientation test explained $33.2\%$ of the variance in health promoting lifestyle. On the basis of the above findings. self-esteem and Life Orientation Test were identified as the variables which explained most of Pender's health promoting model. Nursing strategies enhancing self-esteem and Life Orientation Test which have a more significant effect on health promoting lifestyles should be developed.

  • Human bitter taste-sensing type 2 receptors (hTAS2Rs) are expressed in various human tissues and may be associated with various cell signaling pathways, cell progression, and cell physiology in each tissue. hTAS2Rs can be a potential drug target because it is also expressed in some cancer cells. Xanthorrhizol (XNT) has various biological activities, such as anticancer, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant. XNT produces a bitter taste, but the specific hTAS2R activated is unknown, and the hTAS2R-mediated effect of XNT on cancer cells has not been studied. This study discovered the target receptor of XNT among 25 hTAS2Rs and confirmed the possibility of the hTAS2R-mediated inhibition of cancer cell proliferation. XNT activated only one receptor, hTAS2R38 (EC50=1.606±0.021 ㎍/mL), and its activity was inhibited by probenecid, a hTAS2R38 antagonist. When HepG2 and MCF-7 cells were treated with XNT or phenylthiocarbamide (PTC), a known hTAS2R38 agonist, both chemicals inhibited cancer cell proliferation. XNT targets the human bitter taste receptor TAS2R38 and inhibits the proliferation of HepG2 and MCF-7 cells mediated by TAS2R38. This suggests that TAS2R38 may be a new target for disease treatment and a potential new factor for drug development.

  • In this study, the properties of Ag-coated $TiO_2$ nanoparticles were observed, while varying the molar ratio of water and $Ag^+$ for the surfactant and $TiO_2$. According to the XRD results, each nanoparticle showed a distinctive diffraction pattern. The intensity of the respective peaks and the sizes of the nanoparticles increased in the order of AT1($R_1=5$)(33.3 nm), AT2($R_1=10$)(38.1 nm), AT3($R_1=20$)(45.7 nm), AT4($R_1=40$)(48.6 nm) as well as AT5($R_2=0.2$, $R_3=0.5$)(41.4 nm), AT6($R_2=0.3$, $R_3=1$)(45.1 nm), AT7($R_2=0.5$, $R_3=1.5$)(49.3 nm), AT8($R_2=0.7$, $R_3=2$)(57.2 nm), which values were consistent with the results of the UV-Vis. spectrum. The surface resistance of the conductive pastes fabricated using the prepared Ag-coated $TiO_2$ nanoparticles exhibited a range 7.0~9.0($274{\sim}328{\mu}{\Omega}/cm^2$) times that of pure silver paste(ATP)($52{\mu}{\Omega}/cm^2$).

  • Let R be a ring with left identity e and suitably-restricted additive torsion, and Z(R) its center. Let H : $R{\times}R{\times}R{\rightarrow}R$ be a symmetric 3-additive mapping, and let h be the trace of H. In this paper we show that (i) if for each $x{\in}R$, $$n=<<\cdots,\;x>,\;\cdots,x>{\in}Z(R)$$ with $n\geq1$ fixed, then h is commuting on R. Moreover, h is of the form $$h(x)=\lambda_0x^3+\lambda_1(x)x^2+\lambda_2(x)x+\lambda_3(x)\;for\;all\;x{\in}R$$, where $\lambda_0\;{\in}\;Z(R)$, $\lambda_1\;:\;R{\rightarrow}R$ is an additive commuting mapping, $\lambda_2\;:\;R{\rightarrow}R$ is the commuting trace of a bi-additive mapping and the mapping $\lambda_3\;:\;R{\rightarrow}Z(R)$ is the trace of a symmetric 3-additive mapping; (ii) for each $x{\in}R$, either $n=0\;or\;<n,\;x^m>=0$ with $n\geq0,\;m\geq1$ fixed, then h = 0 on R, where denotes the product yx+xy and Z(R) is the center of R. We also present the conditions which implies commutativity in rings with identity as motivated by the above result.
