  • In the industrial motor drive systems, a torsional vibration is often generated because of the elastic elements in torque transmission. One of general methods for the system is H$\infty$ controller to suppress the torsional vibration and reject the torque disturbance. vibration and reject the torque disturbance. Moreover, the two-degrees-of-freedom controller, which includes the H$\infty$ controller, is designed in order to improve the command following property. In this paper, we propose a new H$\infty$ controller with partial state feedback. This method having simple structure satisfies with the fast command following property and the attenuation of disturbances and vibrations simultaneously, just like the complicated TDOF H$\infty$ controller

  • In this paper, we provide a reliable few controller design method for descriptor systems satisfying asymptotic stability with $H_\infty$ norm bound and all actuator failures occurred within the pre-specified subset. The proper condition for the existence of a reliable $H_\infty$ controller and the controller design method are proposed by linear matrix inequality(LMI), Schur complements, and singular value decomposition. All solutions can be obtained simultaneously because the presented sufficient condition can be expressed as an LMI form.

  • The aim of this paper is to analyze via computer simulation the robust performance of TDF(Two Degree of Freedom) H.$_{\infty}$ controller for uncertain systems having parameter uncertainty. We apply the TDF H$_{\infty}$ controller to autopilot design. We evaluate the robust performance of the TDF H$_{\infty}$ controller for uncertain systems and present the guaranteed bound of robust performance via computer simulation.on.

  • A nonlinear attitude model of a satellite with thrusters, magnetic torquers and a reaction wheel cluster is developed. Then the linearized version of this satellite attitude model is derived far the attitude hold mode. For comparison purpose, various control methods are considered for attitude control of a satellite. We consider a proportional derivative controller which is actually used in the remote sensing satellite, KOMPSAT. Then a comparison is made with an H$_2$controller, an H$\sub$$\infty$/ controller, and a mixed H$_2$/ H$\sub$$\infty$/ controller. The analysis and numerical studies show that the proportional derivative controller's performance is limited in the sense that the pitch angle cannot approach zero. The simulations also show that among three control methods (H$_2$control, H$\sub$$\infty$/ control, and mixed H$_2$/ H$\sub$$\infty$/ control) H$_2$control has the fastest response time, H$\sub$$\infty$/ control has the slowest and mixed H$_2$/ H$\sub$$\infty$/ control comes in between the first two control methods. On the other hand, H$\sub$$\infty$/ control used least amount of control effort while H$_2$control required the most.

  • This study investigates the use of mixed $H_2/H_{$\infty}$ and $\mu$-synthesis to construct a robust controller for the benchmark problem. The model treated in the problem is a coupled three-inertial system that reflects the dynamics of mechanical vibrations. This kind of problem requires to be satisfied the robust performance (both in the time and frequency-domain specifications). We, first, adopt the mixed $H_2/H_{$\infty}$ theory to design a feedback controller K(s). Next, $\mu$-synthesis method is applied to the overall system to make use of structured parametric uncertainty. This process permits higher levels of controller authority and reduces the conservativeness of the controller. Finally, the feedforward controller is also used to improve the transient response of the output. We confirm that all design specifications except a complementary sensitivity condition can be achieved.

  • To improve control performance, especially positioning speed, of a pneumatic positioning system, dynamic characteristics of a control valve should be considered. In case we design controller including dynamic characteristics of a control valve, it's not easy to design controller gain using simple state feedback because degree of a control system is increased. This study designed controller using loop shaping of $H_{\infty}$ control theory for a model composed of a pneumatic actuator and a control valve, and positioning experiment using this controller was performed. As a result, it was verified that the controller is useful for high speed positioning of a pneumatic positioning system.

  • In this paper, we consider the decentralized reduced-order H$_{\infty}$ controller for the general plant. Simplifying method is suggested for the general plant with the decentralized controller structure. When the controller is reconstructed for the original system, the decentralizability of the controller for the transformed system is generally destroyed with the older method. We solve this problem.   • In this paper, an approach to the reduced order H$_{\infty}$ controller synthesis is proposed. This approach employs the frequency weighted model reduction whose frequency weights are deduced from the closed-loop system regarding the controller order reduction errors as uncertainties in a plant, while the resultant reduced order H$_{\infty}$ controller guarantees prescribed H$_{\infty}$ control performances.

  • A mixed method between $H_2\;and\;H_{\infty}$ control are widely applied to systems which has parameter perturbation and uncertain model to obtain an optimal robust controller. Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) motors are widely used for high performance control applications. Conventional PID controller only provides satisfactory performance for set-point regulation. However, with the presence of nonlinearities, uncertainties and perturbations in the system, conventional PID is not sufficient to achieve an optimal robust controller. This paper presents an approach to ease designing a Mixed $H_2/H_{\infty}$ PID controller for controlling speed of Brushless DC motors and the genetic algorithm is used to solve the optimized problems. Numerical results are shown to prove that the performance in the proposed controller is better than that in the optimal PID controller using LQR approach.

  • In this paper, a robust $H_{\infty}$ controller, based on the Riccati equation approach, is proposed for HVDC power system with parametric uncertainties. Bounds of power system parametric uncertainties are included in Riccati equation to improve the robustness of controller. The proposed $H_{\infty}$ controller for the stabilization of HVDC power system can ensure that the overall system is asymptotically stable for all admissible uncertainties. Simulation results show that the proposed $H_{\infty}$ controller can achieve good performance in presence of uncertainties of power system.
