The sulfonated ion exchange fibers were synthesized by $Co^{60}\;{\gamma}-ray$ radiation-induced graft copolymerization. Degree of grafting was increased with increasing the total dose. The degree of grafting for POF-g-St/DVB copolymer was 1000%. The ion exchange capacity of sulfonated ion exchange fibers were increased by increasing the degree of sulfonation. Its maximum value was 5.06 meq/g. The ion exchange capacity of sulfonated POF- co-St/DVB ion exchange fiber was higher than that of the sulfonated POF- co-styrene ion exchange fibers. The amount of adsorption for heavy metals were also increased with increase in the degree of grafting of the ion exchange fibers.
In the present work, untreated Iraqi sand with grain sizes varied between 100 and 200 ㎛ was used to produce a colored glass sample that has shielding features against the low gamma-ray energy. Therefore, a weight of 70-60 wt % sand was mixed with 9-14 wt% B2O3, 8-10 wt% Na2O, 4-6 wt% of CaO, 3-6 wt% Al2O3, in addition to 0.3% of Co2O3. After melting and annealing the glass sample, the X-ray diffraction spectrometry was applied to affirm the amorphous phase of the fabricated glass samples. Moreover, the X-ray dispersive energy spectrometry was used to measure the chemical composition, and the MH-300A densimeter was applied to measure the fabricated sample's density. The Makishima-Makinzie model was applied to predict the mechanical properties of the fabricated glass. Besides, the Monte Carlo simulation was used to estimate the fabricated glass sample's radiation shielding capacity in the low-energy region between 22.1 and 160.6 keV. Therefore, the simulated linear attenuation coefficient changed between 10.725 and 0.484 cm-1, raising the gamma-ray energy between 22.1 and 160.6 keV. Also, other shielding parameters such as a half-value layer, pure lead equivalent thickness, and buildup factors were calculated.
In this study, poly(N-methylol methacrylamide) (NMMAAm) and poly(N-methylol methacrylamide/vinyl sulphonic acid) (NMMAAm-VSA) hydrogels were synthesized by $^{60}Co-{\gamma}$ ray irradiation at an ambient temperature. The graphs belonging to the gelation percent- percent-dose and swelling curves were drawn by using data which were obtained from water and different pH solutions. Characterization of hydrogels was performed by FTIR and DSC-TGA analysis. Heavy metal ion ($Ni^{2+}$, $Co^{2+}$) removal capacities of hydrogels were investigated in aqueous solutions, which had different concentrations (100-1500 mg/L). In metal ion removal studies, pH value of aqueous medium was kept constant at 5.0. Maximum metal ion removal values were obtained for NMMAAm-VSA (1:3 mole ratio) hydrogels. Metal ion removal capacities of NMMAAm-VSA (1:3 mole ratio) hydrogels were found as 82 mg/g and 98 mg/g for $Ni^{2+}$ and $Co^{2+}$ ions, respectively.
To investigate the hormetic effects of the low dose ${\gamma}-ray$ radiation on the germination rate, Welsh onion (Allium fistulosum L. cv. Eunchun and cv. Sukchangwoidae) seeds were irradiated at the dose of $0.5\;{\sim}24.0$ Gy with the ${\gamma}-ray$ radiation (Co-60). The germination rate of 'Eunchun' cultivar increased about 10% in the low dose ${\gamma}-ray$ irradiation group compared with that of the control. In the 'Sukchangwoidae' cultivar, the germination rate of the 4 Gy irradiation group increased 40% more than that of the control. Broadly, it seemed that the hormetic effects of the low-dose ${\gamma}-ray$ radiation were taken more promisingly in the uncultivated soil than in the fertile soil. The germination rate from the paper towel and filter paper based cultivation increased 10% and 16% more, respectively, in the 1 Gy irradiation group than that in the control group. And the electric conductivities of the above groups supposed to be taken hormetic effects of the ${\gamma}-ray$ radiation were lower than those of the control group. From the above results, it is suggested that the low dose ${\gamma}-ray$ radiation ranged from 1 Gy to 10 Gy could have the hormetic effects on the germination rate related characters in Welsh onion seeds.
This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of gamma ray on the eggs of later stage in late fall rearing season. The results are summarized as follows: 1. The duration of larval stage was simmilar to that of control in any dose. The silkworm growth was uniform in does of 4,000 gamma ray, but in does of 8,000r 16000r was irregular. There were not malformed silkworms but many small silkworm. 2. Mortality of silkworms was very high 8,000r and over; virus diseases of 87.6 per cent, flacherie of 5.9 per cent and complication of 6.5 per cent. 3. The more the dose of gamma ray became, the lighter the weight full grown silkworm and matured silkworm became. 4. The uniformness of cocoons was registered in dose of 2,000r and the cocoons were irregular or small in dose of 16,000r

High-strength shielding concrete against gamma radiation is a priority for many medical and industrial facilities. This paper aimed to investigate the gamma-ray shielding properties of high-strength hematite concrete mixed with silica fume (SF) with nanoparticles of lead dioxide (PbO2), tungsten oxide (WO3), and bismuth oxide (Bi2O3). The effect of mixing steel fibres with the aforementioned binders was also investigated. The reference mixture was prepared for high-strength concrete (HSCC) containing 100% hematite coarse and fine aggregate. Thirteen mixtures containing 5% SF and nanoparticles of PbO2, WO3, and Bi2O3 (2%, 5%, and 7% of the cement mass, respectively) were prepared. Steel fibres were added at a volume ratio of 0.28% of the volume of concrete with 5% of nanoparticles. The slump test was conducted to workability of fresh concrete Unit weight water permeability, compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, flexural strength, and modulus of elasticity tests were conducted to assess concrete's engineering properties at 28 days. Gamma-ray radiation of 137Cs emits photons with an energy of 662 keV, and that of 60Co emits two photons with energies of 1173 and 1332 keV were applied on concrete specimens to assess radiation shielding properties. Nanoparticles partially replacing cement reduced slump in workability of fresh concrete. The compressive strength of mixtures, including nanoparticles was shown to be greater, achieving 94.5 MPa for the mixture consisting of 7.5 PbO2. In contrast, the mixture (5PbO2-F) containing steel fibres achieved the highest values for splitting tensile, flexural strength, and modulus of elasticity (11.71, 15.97, and 42,840 MPa, respectively). High-strength shielded concrete (7.5PbO2) showed the best radiation protection. It also showed the minimum concrete thickness required to prevent the transmission of radiation.

A study on radiation hardening of infrared(IR) detector, the chief component of IR camera was performed. The radiation test on IR sensor passivated with the ZnS by Co$^{60}$ gamma-ray over 1 Mrads showed the reduction in Ro by 1/100 which was related to the noise level. This effect that was caused by carrier trapping in the ZnS passivation layer increased the leakage current and resulted in degradation in the device performance. For the radiation hardening of IR devices we suggested the ones with CdTe passivation layer which had a tendency to reluctant to carrier trapping in its layer and developed test patterns. Radiation test to the patterns showed that the our CdTe passivated device could survived over 1 Mrad gamma-ray dose.
The effectiveness of treeing resistance in low density polyethylene containing azocompounds were investigated under radiation environments. 4-(4-nitrophenylazo)-1-naphthol and 4-(4-nitrophenylazo) resorcinol were selected for treeing inhibitors. LDPE containing the additives were crosslinked with dicumyl peroxide, irradiated by $Co^{60}$${\gamma}$-ray in the presence of air at room temperature. Treeing inception voltage, AC breakdown strength measurements were carried out for electrical insulation characteristics, thermoluminescence and gel contents were analyzed as various irradiation doses also. LDPE with treeing inhibitors showed much better insulation characteristics than pure LDPE. It is interpreted that molecular structures, polar groups and the type of radicals connected on the benzene ring of the additives affected electrical characteristics. From the results, 4-(4-nitrophenylazo) resorcinol was the most effective upon the best treeing and radiation resistance.
In this study, it has been shown that the true coincidence summing correction factor can be obtained for the first time using the PHITS Monte Carlo program. Determining this correction factor using different methods and tools in each laboratory to increase the possibility of achieving high-efficiency measurement conditions is still popular in gamma-ray spectrometry. By using 133Ba, 152Eu, 134Cs, and 60Co point sources, the true coincidence summing factor was investigated in both near and far counting geometries for 15 different energy values. GESPECOR software was used to validate the results obtained with PHITS. A remarkable agreement was obtained between PHITS and GESPECOR, with a discrepancy of less than 3%. With this study, a new tool has been proposed to obtain the true coincidence summing factor, which is one of the significant correction factors investigated/calculated in gamma-ray spectrometric studies.
