Study of Combustion and Emission Characteristics for DI Diesel Engine with a Swirl-Chamber

  • Gas motion within the engine cylinder is one of the major factors controlling the fuel-air mixing and combustion processes in diesel engines. In this paper, a special swirl-chamber is designed and applied to a DI (direct injection) diesel engine to generate a strong swirl motion thus enhancing gas motion. Compression, combustion and expansion strokes of this DI diesel engine with the swirl-chamber have been simulated by CFD software. The simulation model was first validated through comparisons with experimental data and then applied to do the simulation of the spray and combustion process. The velocity and temperature field inside the cylinder showed the influences of the strong swirl motion to spray and combustion process in detail. Cylinder pressure, average temperature, heat release rate, total amount of heat release, indicated thermal efficiency, indicated fuel consumption rate and emissions of this DI diesel engine with swirl-chamber have been compared with that of the DI diesel engine with $\omega$-chamber. The conclusions show that the engine with swirlchamber has the characteristics of fast mixture formulation and quick diffusive combustion; its soot emission is 3 times less than that of a $\omega$-chamber engine; its NO emission is 3 times more than that of $\omega$-chamber engine. The results show that the DI diesel engine with the swirl-chamber has the potential to reduce emissions.

분무충돌을 이용한 w-형 직접분사식 디젤연소실에 대한 계산적 고찰 (Simulative consideration for w-shaped d.i. diesel combustion chamber system using spray wall impaction)

  • Combustion chamber systems using spray impinged on walls have been studied for improving combustion characteristics in high speed direct injection diesel engines. The fuel spray injected in a small combustion chamber may be easily impinged and deposited on the wall. The fuel deposit has been considered as the cause for unburned emission due to difficulty of fuel-air mixing. In this paper w-shaped combustion chamber which has four raised pips on the side wall is introduced and discussed by comparing with conventional chamber with no pips. The computer code employing new spray-wall interaction model in general non-orthogonal grids is used in here. The model is applied into the new chamber shape with raised pips. In this chamber system four-hole nozzle is used, and the sprays injected from the each hole impact on lands raised from the chamber wall surface. After impacting, the sprays break up into much smaller drops and distribute over all the chamber space, instead of distributing just near the wall surface in conventional omega-shape. The results showed the potential of the w-shaped chamber employing pips for dispersing droplets so as tn avoid the fuel deposit regions.

난류모형을 적용한 엔진 연료실의 유동해석 (Flow Analysis in the Fuel Chamber of Engine by Applying Turbulent Models)

  • 복잡한 연료실 내의 유동현상을 난류모형을 적용하여 해석하였다. 적용한 모형은 $k-\varepsilon,\;k-\omega$, spalart-allmaras, reynolds stress이고, 연로실내의 격자는 혼합격자(hybrid grid) 이다. 속도벡터, 압력분포, 반복계산(iteration)에 의한 잔류치(residual), 동력학적 양정(dynamic head) 등을 모사하였다. 4개의 난류모형을 연료실 유동에 적용하였다. 3차원 수치실험에 앞서, 수치검증을 위하여 2차원 물체 주위의 점성유동을 $k-\varepsilon$ 난류모형을 적용하여 모사하였고 항력계수를 비교하였다.

  • 시아노아크릴레이트 훈증법은 비다공성 표면에 유류된 잠재지문을 현출할 때 효과적이다. 본 연구는, 진공챔버에서 시아노아크릴레이트를 훈증할 때 온도, 습도, 훈증 방법 등이 잠재지문 현출에 미치는 영향을 확인한 후 최적 반응 조건을 찾는데 있다. 진공챔버의 온도가 높을수록 시아노아크릴레이트 증발량은 증가했지만, 지문 융선에서 시아노아크릴레이트의 중합반응은 $30^{\circ}C$에서 가장 잘 일어났다. 상대습도가 40%, 50% 조건에서는 좋은 상태의 지문이 현출되었지만, 30%보다 낮거나 60%보다 높은 조건에서는 지문 융선에서 시아노아크릴레이트 중합반응 속도가 느려졌다. 진공챔버에서 시아노아크릴레이트를 자연적으로 증발시키는 방법보다는 $OMEGA-PRINT^{TM}$ dispersal pads와 수산화나트륨을 포함한 솜을 이용해 시아노아크릴레이트 훈증하는 방법이 효과적이란 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 진공챔버에서 시아노아크릴레이트 처리시간은 상대습도에 비해 큰 영향을 주지 않았다.

이형반응기 미생물연료전지의 전기적 특성에 미치는 외부저항의 영향 (Effect of External Resistance on Electrical Properties of Two-Chamber type Microbial Fuel Cells)

  • Ferricyanide를 환원제로 사용하는 이형반응기 미생물연료전지 시스템에서 전류밀도, 전력밀도, 쿨롱효율 등의 전기적 특성에 미치는 외부저항의 영향을 규명하고자 하였다. 음극반응기에 미생물을 접종하고 일정한 시간이 경과하면 안정적인 전기가 생산되었으며 $50{\Omega}$의 외부저항에서 0.13~0.16 V 범위의 전압이 발생되었다. 외부저항이 증가함에 따라 전류밀도는 감소하였으며 전력밀도는 일정한 값까지는 급격하게 증가하다가 서서히 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 외부저항을 단계적으로 감소시키는 반복실험을 수행한 결과, 일정한 범위의 전류밀도까지는 측정값들의 편차가 크지 않았으나 높은 전류밀도 영역에서는 기질소모로 발생하는 농도손실의 영향으로 측정값의 변동성이 매우 크게 나타났다. 전력밀도 및 쿨롱효율은 MFC 시스템의 내부저항($134{\Omega}$)과 가까운 $100{\Omega}$의 외부저항에서 각각 $175.8mW/m^2$과 46.1%의 최대값을 가지는 것으로 나타났다.

Numerical Visualization of Fluid Flow and Filtration Efficiency in Centrifugal Oil Purifier

  • The centrifugal oil purifier is used in ships for purifying the engine lubrication oil. The momentum needed for the rotation of the cylindrical chamber is obtained by jet injections. The dust particles in the oil are separated by the centrifugal forces moving to the inner wall of the rotating cylindrical chamber body. The dust particles are eliminated when the particles are adsorbed onto the surface of the inner wall of the chamber body. The flow characteristics and the physical behaviours of particles in this centrifugal oil purifier have been investigated numerically and the filtration efficiencies have been evaluated. For the calculations, a commercial code has been used and the SST k-${\omega}$ turbulence model has been adopted. The MRF (Multiple Reference Frame) method has been introduced to consider the rotating effect of the flows. Under various variables, such as particle size, particle density and rotating speed, the filtration efficiencies have been evaluated. It has been verified that the filtration efficiency is increased with the increments of the particle size, the particle density and the rotating speed of the cylindrical chamber.

반대방향 충돌제트에 의한 원형 챔버 내 혼합거동에 대한 전산가시화 (Numerical visualization of mixing in a circular chamber by two opposite impinging jets)

  • In this study, the mixing process of two distinct flow is numerically investigated. Two flow with different physical properties (resin and hardener) are mixed through the opposing mixing jets. At a high pressure mixing process, the high speed flow is provided by two in-line nozzles. In the case of numerical modeling, Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes Equations (RANS) is conducted to model the flow pattern inside the chamber. Additionally, SST k-omega turbulence model is selected to predict the kinetic energy of flow in impingement zone. The results show that mixing of two distinct flows would be efficient if the velocity of jet is high enough and nozzle diameter is a predominant parameter. Also, this velocity would create higher shear stress between two distinct flows which increases the mixing quality as well as strength of formed vortices. Eventually, the histogram of concentration fraction of resin is examined in order to show the quality of mixing and the range of concentration fractions in the output of chamber.

Observation of Moisture Content in Wood at Non-Steady State

  • For the search of unified law of moisture movement in wood, moisture distribution of Korean red pine at non-steady state was investigated. We assume that the equilibrium moisture content (EMC) in wood depends on only temperature and relative humidity, it can be control in temperature and humidity chamber. If temperature is constant and humidity or vapor pressure is changed with sin curve shape at adequate cycles, EMC in chamber can be changed as well with sin-curve shape. The setup condition of a non-steady state in humidity control chambers is a constant temperature at $20^{\circ}C$ and 15+10 sin ${\omega}t$ percent EMC. It can be found that the distribution of moisture in the specimen with varying relative humidity are illustrated various types. Moisture in wood is complicated and vibrates with the moisture sorption process. Considering a unified law of moisture movement in wood, it is considered that the most important fact is to search the method of precise diffusion & transfer coefficients.

CuInSe2 박막의 열처리에 의한 특성분석 (A Study on Properties of CuInSe2 Thin Film by Annealing)

  • In this paper, $CuInSe_2$ thin film was prepared by use of the co-evaporation method with the variation of the substrate temperature in the range of $100^{\circ}C$ to $400^{\circ}C$. The film was annealed at $300^{\circ}C$ for an hour in a vacuum chamber at $3{\times}10-4$ Pa. After annealing, the thin film prepared at the substrate temperatures of $100^{\circ}C$ and $200^{\circ}C$ was observed. The XRD (x-ray diffraction) pattern of sample prepared at $100^{\circ}C$ showed the single phase formation of $CuInSe_2$. However, at $200^{\circ}C$, there was no apparent difference in the XRD pattern except a variation in the intensity of the peak. As the annealing treatment of substrate improved the crystal structure of the film, it affected to the increase of an electron mobility, resulted in an increase in conductivity and a decrease in resistance. As a results, when the substrate temperature was at $200^{\circ}C$ and $300^{\circ}C$, the sheet resistance was 1.534 $\Omega/\Box$ and 1.554 $\Omega/\Box$, respectively, and the resistivity was $1.76{\times}10-6\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ and $1.7210-6\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$, respectively. From the absorption spectrum measurements, there was no variation between the before and after annealing conductions. And it means that the annealing step does not affect the thickness of the thin film.

초고집적회로를 위한 구리박막의 화학적 형성기술 (Chemical vapor deposition of copper thin films for ultra large scale integration)

  • 0.25$\mu\textrm{m}$이하의 최소선폭을 같는 초고집적회로에 사용할 수 있는 구리박막의 형성기술 을 조사하였다. 본 실험에서는 측면박막 형성에 적합한 화학적 증착을 시도하였으며 (hfac)Cu(VTMS)(hexafluoroacetylacetonate vinyltrimethylisilane copper(I))로 명명된 금속 유기 화합물을 원료로 사용하였다. 구리박막의 형성은 TiN와 $SiO_2$모재 위에 이루어 졌으며, 형성 중에 모재의 온도와 증착용기 내 압력의 함수로서 집적회로 공정상 주요 변수인 박막 의 비저항, 박막의 증착선택도를 측정하였다. 구리박막은 모재온도 $180^{\circ}C$와 증착용기의 압력 0.6Torr의 조건에서 가장 좋은 전기적 성질을 보여 주었다. 이 조건에서 형성된 구리박막은 다결정 구조를 나타내었으며 구리박막의 증착속도는 120nm/min, 비저항은 0.25$mu \Omega$.cm, 평균거칠기는 15.5nm로서 0.25$\mu\textrm{m}$이하 선폭의 집적회로에서 요구되는 전기적, 재료적 사양에 근접한 구리박막을 얻었다. 또한 140-$250^{\circ}C$의 모재 온도 범위에서 TiN모재와 $SiO_2$모재 사 이에 뚜렸한 증착선택성이 관측되었다.
