  • The purpose of the study was to decide Korean translation and the copying period of "Korean Translation of " and to look all around their characteristics in different versions carefully until now. The "Korean Translation" is a collection of Korean-translated romance and love stories excavated by a professor Kim,Il Geun, and there is not a little meaning in the context of novel history in the point of view of 'Korean translation of a court possession'. Arranging conclusion of the study generally, it is as follows. (1) Considering phonological phenomena, grammar and vocabulary in the study of Korean language, it is presumed that they would be translated into Korean and copied between the regime period of the King Sukjong and the regime period of the King Yungjo in the Joseon Dynasty. For, they were composed of a middle declaration of copied 'Myeoknambon "Korean Translation of Taepyeonggwanggi(태평광기)"' and 'NakseonJaebon(낙선재본)' between the middle of the 17th century and the middle of the 18th century and the regime period of the King Jeongjo in the Joseon Dynasty appointed as the background period of the novels should be excepted. Consequently, through the Korean Translation, we can confirm that the novel scope between the 17th century and the 18th century in Korean novel history was widened until 'The Royal Court' and 'Women'. (2) In the side of vocabulary, the "Korean Translation" also has not a little meaning in the side of a collection translated in the Royal Court. It doesn't have new vocabularies, but partial vocabularies as '(Traces:痕)' '(Clean eyes:明眸)', ' (Sail:帆)', '(Get up:起)', '글이플(Weak grass:弱草)', '쇼록(Owl:? 梟 or 鴉?)', '이 사라심(This life:此生)', and '노혀오매(Look for:訪)' are good data in the study of Korean language. (3) The "Korean Translation" is a valuable data about translation and copying of a court novel and we can discover intentionally changed parts and partially omitted sentences rather in the than in the . There are differences between a translation book and a copying book and we can catch sight of intention of translation and unsettledness of copying in the second work. Therefore, we can know that the "Korean Translation" has a double context which one work is translated and a work in different version is derived, compared to a simple copy. (4) The "Korean Translation" has a close relation with "Hangoldong(閒汨董)", but it doesn't regard the same copy as a foundation. The basic copy of translation of the "Korean Translation" is a different version of the same line as "Hangoldong" and "Jeochobon(저초본:정명기 소장본)" and is more similar line to "Hangoldong", but it is also not the same basic copy. (5) Considering that the "Korean Translation" doesn't has a distinct relation with the "Hangoldong", there is no correlation between the "Korean Translation" and and the "Hangoldong" and . In addition, we could not discover a writer's identity between the two.

Firstly, weather was recorded into three types of expression, simple and dynamic expression and agriculture-related expression. Its dynamics was much meaningful and important when weather was related to local resident's life and local or non-local economy and politics. Secondly, weather and local government were conflict under a particular natural condition like severe drought. And society and politics are affected by such a conflict. Thirdly, local people's demonstration was occurred under a certain condition. Bounded agency can be founded in O Hoeng-muk's behavior as a local governor like jinhyul(賑恤), rain rituals, tax collection. • The purpose of this study is to investigate the tendency of the research on the traditional scenery architecture based on the old literature for the last 10 years and to suggest direction of the research on the traditional scenery through utilization of the old literature. For the tendency analysis of the research on the traditional scenery, I investigated and analyzed researches published in the Journal of the Korean Institute of Traditional Landscape Architecture between 2002 and 2012, and reviewed the utilization of the old literature about research on the traditional scenery. The number of the research papers through the old literature was two or three a year by 2009, but has increased to more than eight from 2010. The utilization tendency of the old literature was mostly to use the Korean translations or to use a collection of an individual's works after partially translating. As some of the researches were carried out only through translations even when they used the original, historical evidence on the translation of the original was insufficient. I can suggest the direction of the research on the traditional scenery by the results as follows: it is necessary to present both translation and the original and to specify the source of translation, for the efficient understanding and verification of the original. Professional translation of landscape architecture and scenery also seems to be necessary for the records of the current state. For the analysis of the old literature, as the analysis of the traditional scenery both through poetry and records facilitates assumption of the location of landscape by the abundant data, it seems to be necessary to approach research, using poetry and prose complementarily, after preparing foundation of research based on the records.

  • By studying the classic poetry and prose with a theme of Plantain, I would like to study why Plantain has been planted in our traditional garden for a long time. Also, through this study, I want to find when Plantain was introduced to in our country. We use description study method for studying the classic poetry and prose with a theme of Plantain. As a result, we found a few things like below. First, the introduction of Plantain to our country traces back to unified Silla in the poetry of Choe Chi Won. Also, Plantain was planted and loved generally as a general garden plant in the middle of Goryeo through poetry and paintings. Second, the meaning of Plantain is like this. 1) It means development and enjoyment of arts of summer because the leaves of Plantain were used for drinking alcohol and writing and poetry instead of papers. 2) In Buddhism, Plantain was thought to awaken 'gong(空)', 'mua(無我)', and 'brevity' of lesson of Buddha by the special shape and the image of falling rain to the leaves. Also, it was used widely in Buddhist temples because of the story of 'Hye ga dan bi(慧可斷臂)'. 3) In Confucianism, it is the emblem of lesson 'a wise man tries to be strong and tries not to stop following to God'(自强不息). 4) The large leaf of Plantain is called 'bongmi(鳳尾)' thanks to the image of likeness with tails of Bongwhang(鳳凰). Third, design use of Plantain is like this. 1) The large leaf of Plantain was used for giving an image of freshness and brightness in the garden in summer. 2) Our ancestor thought 'the sound of falling rain to Plantain'(芭蕉雨聲) as a picturesque sound in summer. Also, Plantain was highly utilized because our ancestor thought Plantain is the best plant for implementing 'soundscape'. Thus, the most characteristic use of several design uses is 'acoustic use'. 3) Plantain was also planted in a indoor pot for viewing. 4) Plantain was used for making food and medicine in the palace and private house as a practical use. The limit of this study is that I mainly use the text translated into Korean of database of overall Korean classics. We hope the new things related to this study would be added up to this study by translating original texts into Korean more.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify whether the cranes had been bred in the palace of the Joseon Dynasty period and to consider the related cases. The temporal range of this study is in the Joseon Dynasty period, and the spatial range is throughout the entire palace, including the naejeon(內殿) and oijeon(外殿), and government offices inside(闕內各司) and government offices outside(闕外各司). The reference materials for this study were partly extracted and translated from the original documents to consider, and a Korean version of documents was used in the database of the Institute for the Translation of Korean Classics. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, the cranes were bred from the early Joseon Dynasty Era in Uijeongbu, the highest government office in the Joseon Dynasty period. After the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592, crane breeding in Uijeongbu(議政府) seems to have been suspended due to the damage to the government building and the change in the status of the government office. Second, crane breeding in Hongmungwan(弘文館), which was responsible for the classics colloquium(經筵) and public opinions and assisted the king by the side, continued from the early Joseon Dynasty period(Jungjong's Era) to the late Joseon Dynasty period(Jeongjo's Era) after the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592. Third, in the Jeongjo's Era, the cranes were also bred in Gyujanggak(奎章閣), which was newly established as the central institution of learning to strengthen the royal authority. At that time, it seems that several cranes were bred in Gyujanggak. Fourth, it is judged that 'Crane breeding' in the core government offices of Joseon, such as Uijeongbu, Hongmungwan, and Gyujanggak, was meaningful as a symbol of identities, such as the status and character of the institution. Fifth, it seems that the cranes bred in the palace, including Hongmungwan, were conventionally brought by the Baecheon County of Hwanghae-do. This convention caused minor conflicts between the central and local government offices during the Yeongjo's Era, but it seems to have continued throughout the Jeongjo's Era. In this study, there is a limit that most of the studies were conducted based on local data. If further data discovery and translation outcomes are accumulated in the future, more abundant cases will be identified. The deepened follow-up studies are also needed, other than the cases of rearing cranes in the local government offices and temples.
