To determine the optimum ventilation systems during long tunnel excavation, the velocity vector profile and the contaminant's distribution at working place are studied using 2-D, 3-D numerical analysis. The main results can be summarized as follow; In case of long tunnels, blower-exhaust-mixture types which enable to use soft blast ducts is most appropriate in terms of ventilation and economical efficiency. Of the same ventilation types, ventilation efficiency has a difference according to blast ducts and the distance between fan and working place. The 3-D numerical result shows that arranging blower and exhaust ducts in the right and left corners of the tunnel respectively is effective to discharge contaminant. The result of the real measurement shows that CO concentration can be reduced to below 50 ppm, which is regulation value, as 16-minutes fan operation goes on.

In underground drilling and blasting, particularly in small headings(generally under $20m^2$), the prospects for changes of blast parameters are usually more limited than those employed by large area tunnel(over $20m^2$). It is also well known that the consumption of explosives and specific drilling rate for small tunnel areas are exponentially increased also tunnel areas decrease. To confirm above results, some tests for two tunnels(irrigation water tunnel with $6.0m^2$ area, electric supplies tunnel with $15.0m^2$) are also carried out in this study. As a results, specific drilling rate and specific charge for irrigation water tunnel were decreased from 13.8 to $7.7m/m^3$ and from 4.88 to $2.56kg/m^3$ respectively. Those for electric supplies tunnel were also decreased from 8.0 to $4.9m/m^3$ and from 3.46 to $2.22kg/m^3$.

Efficiency and universality which was the spirit of the modern age, had also an enfluence on our living environment. Various types of individual housing unit were developed and mass-produced. However, the exterior space in our city is a place for our social life and intermediate place to connect the private life of each individual to our society. For the people to adapt themselves well to their environment, it should be well organized which means it is clearly divided and integrated in a hierarchical order. To realize these conditions, adequate boundaries to divide each territory and entrances to connect each territory are two essential elements. One of the possible methods to realize these conditions can be found in korean traditional architecture where the exterior space has the same figural quality like buildings and is the center of the whole composition. Buildings, walls and colonnades are the elements to define space. Gates, pavilions, gabs between buildings and posts are the elements to symbolize the entrance connecting each space. Each exterior space is integrated to a whole composition. One is the gradual differentiation along the axis which is unique in korean traditional architecture. The other is the rectangular connection which is also found in the other area in the world. The results of this thesis are as follows. The exterior space in the housing area should have the figural quality. The elements to make boundaries defining exterior space are classified into horizontal elements such as low buildings and walls, and vertical elements such as tower-shape buildings which define space in a different way. The position of openings in a housing block affects the characteristic and openness of a exterior space. Various types of gates are used to decide the relationship between spaces.

As an automobile fuel, LPG has many environmental advantages compared to gasoline or diesel. However, current LPG engine which is provided with LPG fuel as gas form has lower power and worse fuel efficiency than gasoline engine. These problems of low power and bad fuel efficiency come from lower volumetric efficiency. Also there is a new rising problem of high failure ratio in an engine emission test. Although there are many factors which affect engine performance of exhaust gas emission, one believes that the fact that ECM of gasoline engine is used for LPG engine when retrofitting gasoline engine to LPG engine is one of the main problems, which lower engine power and emit more noxious gas due to wrong ignition timing. To solve these problems, one studied the effects of ignition timing on the exhaust gas to find out the optimum condition of ignition timing. The experimental results show that noxious exhaust gas is reduced and engine power is increased if the optimum control of ignition timing is applied in accordance to the revolution speed of engine.

To improve passenger safety, seat belt systems with pre-tensioner that tightens seat belt webbing using explosive just before collision are widely used these days. Even though seatbelt must not unlatched without passengers' operation. explosive power of pre-tensioner can cause unlocking of a buckle. To prevent the unlocking, an anti-g mass that blocks displacement of the release button has been attached to the buckle. In this study, the dynamics and statics of locking mechanism associated with operation of anti-g buckle has been theoretically investigated, and important design variables that affect the operation of anti-g buckle have been identified. Through the total seat belt system's dynamic simulation using force and displacement inputs obtained from seat belt sled test, design of the proposed anti-g buckle has been validated.

Motorized retractors enhance the safety of passengers by removing the slack of webbing and by holding upright driving position. Reliability of a driving mechanism that includes one-way clutch between the driving motor and webbing is directly linked to the safety of passenger. In this research, conditions for locking one-way clutch, and also conditions for sustaining locking are theoretically investigated. The operation of a motorized retractor under realistic conditions is simulated in order to validate the proposed retractor design.

In this paper, remote monitoring system for wind turbine is developed. The developed system consists of data acquisition for wind sensor, and monitoring for site environment. In order to accomplish effective monitoring, the system uses Datasocket, SMB, FTP, Web Server, and G Web Server. Two computer system - one is data acquisition computer using Windows-XP and the other is monitoring computer using UNIX - constraint the distribute system with individual tasks. By using this system, one can perform various monitoring and control tasks in Wind-Turbine application, efficiently.

Mach peening treatment is one of the various kinds of techniques to improve the fatigue properties. The mach peening process gives high-level work hardening and compressive residual stress near the surface layer, improving the fatigue strength. In addition, this treatment reduces slip bands that initiate the fatigue cracks near the surface. During impingement, a plastic indentation surrounded by a plastic zone is formed. Mach peening treatment characteristic is less energy consumption and is an environmental friendly processing methods that is not accompanied by pollution. It is machining process that can prevent fatigue fracture beforehand in structure using already as well as process of production. The test results showed that fatigue crack propagation delay appeared by drilling type 43%, mach peening type 110%.

A vibration monitoring is performed on a 1kW class stand alone wind turbine(W/T). When a W/T model is developed, general performance under various wind condition should be verified to introduce the product in the market. Especially, vibration characteristics within operating speed range are very important in the aspect of structural stability as well as generator's electrical efficiency. This paper examines the vibration performance of a home made 1kW W/T. Various data of the W/T model are acquired in real time using a remote vibration monitoring system installed in Daekwanryung test site. Vibration stability of the W/T structure is diagnosed based upon the data and the result is used to estimate the applicability of the W/T model.

The Chun-cheon Citizen's Bell was cast in memory of hosting the 2010 world leasure conference and a striking ceremony was held at the city hall on December 31, 2005. In this study, vibration and sound of the bell are measured and the property of the magnificent sound of the bell is scientifically investigated. Frequency components making the sound are identified and how the frequency components decrease with time is observed using waterfall plot(3-dimensional frequency spectrum). Beat characteristics of the hum(1st frequency) and the fundamental(2nd frequency)are examined by experiment. Directivity of the sound radiation of the bell is examined by measuring the vibration and sound in several directions. Duration of the vibration and the sound is estimated using damping ratio.

Pulse oximetry, which monitors non-invasively the oxygen saturation in blood, is influenced by patient's respiration, movement or a factor of an environment. Specially, it's difficult to measure a PPG (Photoplethsmography) signal from the moving patient because of the motion artifact. Accordingly, it is required to extract the pure PPG signal from the PPG signal to measure oxygen saturation. In this paper, we propose an adaptive noise canceller to improve the performance of motion artifact removal. Then we design a hardware system for real time monitoring of the oxygen saturation. The proposed algorithm estimates the slope of transition rate between two different wavelength signals.

In this paper, we proposed the new wavelength tunable filter for wide tunability of fiber ring laser. The proposed filter consists of the cascaded connection of Fiber Reflection Mach-Zehnder Interferometer and Sagnac filter or of hybrid filter and Fiber Reflection Mach-Zehnder Interferometer. The simulation shows that the continuous tunable range of 50nm can be obtained and that more stable single mode operation of ring laser can be expected due to narrow FWHM. of filter spectrum.

This study is the results of experimental and numerical study on the consolidational behavior of multi-layered soft soil ground installed with plastic board drains (PBD). Centrifuge model tests with a marine clay sampled from field were performed to investigate the consolidational behavior of multi-layered ground where a dredged soil was placed on the soft clay ground and PBDs were installed. Test results were compared with those of numerical analyses, using the 2-D equivalent model previously proposed. From test results, it was found that the amount of consolidation settlement occurred in the original ground due to embankment surcharge loads was in the range of 38% of total settlement in the whole ground. From the results of cone penetration tests executed after finishing the centrifuge model tests, the cone resistance was found to increase with depth. The measured water contents inbetween PBDs were in the ranges of 38~50% and their values tended to increase with increasing the distance between PBDs.

This study is an numerical study of predicting the behavior of anchor embedded in weathered rocks, subjected to uplift loads, about ultimate pullout capacity and the failure mechanism. Factors influencing the behavior of anchors were investigated by reviewing the data about in-situ anchor tests performing numerical modelling with changing the bondage length of anchor, diameter of anchor body and diameter of tenden, and by Correlations between those factors were evaluated to apply them to predict the behavior of anchors. As results of numerical analysis, a linear relationship between bondage length, diameter of anchor body and diameter of tenden with ultimate pullout capacity was obtained on the one hand, from the result of numerical analysis changing the Young's modulus of weathered rock, this parameter was found to inflence to load-displacement and ultimate pullout capacity within the range of 10%, which was mot so significant to affect.

The purpose of this study is to present quantitatively the influence of variables that had the largest effect on the changes in suspended solids(SS), which would cause turbid water phenomenon, among water quality factors of the non-point pollution source, and then to develop a multiple regression equation of SS and predict the water quality of ungaged watersheds so as to provide basic data to establish efficient management plans for SS which flow in rivers and lakes. To identify the correlation of SS with the amount of rainfall and the state of land use, a simple correlation analysis and a simple regression analysis were conducted respectively. Finally, a multiple regression analysis was conducted to provide that SS were set as dependent variables while the amount of rainfall, paddy fields and dry fields were set as independent variables. As a result, the amount of rainfall had the most significant influence on changes in SS, followed by dry fields and paddy fields. In addition, the multiple regression equation was developed to predict SS in unmeasurable watersheds.

In this research, we made a one and two-dimensional analysis of numerical data collected from the bend curvature of a bended river section. According to the result from the numerical analysis, the inflow ＆ output angle caused a water level deviation which increased with an increase of the flood discharge. From the water level deviation of our two-dimensional numerical model, we obtained the maximum slope of 6,67% when the inflow and output angle was 105 degrees and the flood discharge was 500 CMS. As for the right side, the differences with the one-dimensional numerical model were reduced when the angle was more than $90^{\circ}$. As for the left side the differences were reduced when the angle was more than $105^{\circ}$. For a river with more than 90 degrees bend curvature, a hydraulic experiment would be more appropriate than a numerical analysis.

Many concrete bridge decks develop transverse cracking shortly after construction. These cracks accelerate corrosion of reinforcing steel and lead to concrete deterioration, damage to components beneath the deck, unsightly appearance. These cracks shorten the service life and increase maintenance costs of bridge structures. In this study, VES-LMC overlay, which provides the same benefits as a conventional overlay, is designed to cure very quickly. Although the materials for VES overlays are more expensive, the cost is more than offset by the savings on traffic control and work zone safety measures. Otherwise, reaction of hydration occurs very rapidly in beginning step(concrete placing). As a results, thermal cracking can be occur by thermal stress in accordance with hydration-heat The purpose of this study was to estimate diagnosis of crack occurrence of VES-LMC through field tests at early-age.

Wireless Sensor Networks provide a new paradigm for sensing and disseminating information from various environments, with the potential to serve many and diverse applications. Recent advancement in wireless communications and electronics has enabled the development of low-cost sensor networks. The sensor networks can be used for various application areas. For different application areas, there are different technical issues that researchers are currently resolving. The current state of the art of sensor networks is captured in this article, where solutions are discussed under their related protocol stack layer sections. This article also points out the open research issues and intends to spark new interests and developments in this field. In order to evaluate the application of field monitoring system, lab tests, field test and FEM analysis are conducted. Therefore the accuracy of RFID wireless sensor data is verified.

The main objective of this study was to derive a formula of ductility reduction factor, expressed as $R_{\mu}$. To attain this objective, a study comprised reduction factors computed for stiffness degrading systems undergoing different levels of ductility and to investigate an accuracy of the formula. Based on this study, the main conclusions can be summarized :(1) The ductility reduction factor is primarily affected by the period of the system and the displacement ductility ratio. (2) The proposed formula is simpler and the inelastic deformations of bridge structures are better than those by the others formulas we used before.

To evaluate inelastic seismic responses of multi-span-bridge, the equivalent single-degree-of-freedom (ESDOF) methods and the lateral load distributions are applied to the capacity spectrum method(CSM). From the pushover analysis results using the four ESDOF methods and the six types lateral load distributions, the ESDOF method more than lateral load distribution is found to have an important influence upon the pushover analysis. The effects of the higher mode on the bridge seismic behaviors are also increased as the number of pier increase. Therefore, it can be concluded that lateral load distributions and ESDOF methods for reflection of higher mode effects should be considered in the seismic analysis of the bridge structural.

Scheduling for shipbuilding processes has many alternative solutions since it has long time horizon and handles many jobs. In this paper, an shipbuilding scheduling system for outfitting and painting is presented based on constraint satisfaction techniques(CST). We provide a field based model and an efficient solution methodology by using ILOG Scheduler and Solver. ILOG Solver support extensive optimization goals easily. We do verify the improvement and efficiency of the schedule generated by the scheduling system presented in this paper.

In this study, we analyzed the effects of several process variables on the removal efficiencies of NO and $SO_2$ by the dielectric barrier discharge process combined with photocatalysts. The $TiO_2$ photocatalysts were coated onto the spherical-shaped glass beads as dielectric materials by the dip-coating method to analyze the effects of photodegradation reaction on the NO and $SO_2$ removal. As the voltage applied to the plasma reactor increases, or as the pulse frequency of applied voltage increases, the NO and $SO_2$ removal efficiencies increase. Also as the residence time increases, or as the initial concentration of NO decreases, the NO and $SO_2$ removal efficiencies increase. The higher the amount of $TiO_2$ particles coated onto the glass bead is, the larger the surface area of $TiO_2$ particles for the photodegradation reaction is and the NO and $SO_2$ are removed more quickly by the faster photodegradation reactions.

Water shortage as well as water control problems including urban flood and drought have led to developing technologies for rainwater utilization in order to provide a sustainable water supply. However, relatively few works have been done to improve the water quality during rainwater utilization. Therefore, in this study, the characteristics of rainwater were examined in terms of pollutant concentrations and outflow rate. A experimental rain and roof model($1m{\times}1m$) were produced to evaluate wash-off properties of pollutants. And rainfall intensity were standardized in 10 mm/hr, a experimental model roof catchment surface were coated in $TiO_2$ photocatalyst. Samples of runoff rainwater collected from a experimental model were analyzed for physicochemical parameters such as Turbidity, Suspended Solid, EC. The results show that the first flush of rainwater contains substantial amount of contaminants that potentially pollute the whole rainwater. Surface treatment of roof catchment area using $TiO_2$ photocatalyst allowed a better runoff property of rainwater because of its improved hydrophilicity.

Ozone alone and catalytic ozone processes were introduced for treatment of humic acid, which is representative refractory organic compound. The treatment efficiencies of humic acid in each process were analyzed in pH variation, DOC removal, and $UV_{254}$ decrease. Mn loaded GAC catalyst was prepared by loading potassium permanganate onto the granular activated carbon surface. BCM-GAC and BCM-Silica gel catalyst were prepared by BCM. $UV_{254}$ decrease in all processes was comparatively high with efficiency over 87%. DOC removal in ozone/GAC process was the highest with 78%, and removal rates for other processes followed the order ozone/BCM-GAC(62%) > ozone/BCM-silica gel(45%) > ozone/silica gel(43%) > ozone/Mn Loaded GAC(42%) > ozone alone(37%).
