Alkaloidal fraction, a principle of ginseng extract was administered to rats orally in the amount of 2.5 mg per day per 100 gm body weight continuously for eight weeks to assess the lipid content of the serum and liver tissue. The findings can be summarized as follows: 1. Total cholesterol contents of serum and liver tissue were found to decrease with the administration of ginseng alkaloidal fraction. 2. Phospholipid contents increased in the serum and decreased in the liver tissue with the administration of ginseng alkaloidal fraction. 3. Triglyceride contents of the serum as well as liver tissue increased with the administration of ginseng alkaloidal fraction during the first 4 weeks but decreased in the second 4 weeks to reach a level below that of the pre-experimental period.

The inhibitory action of oxygen consumption and parasiticidal action of hexachlorophene or MTPA combined with or without sodium cholate in Clonorchis sinensis (C.S) have been observed. The results were obtained as follows. 1. In low concentration of MTPA or Hexachlorophene, they inhibited the oxygen consumption of C.S and in high concentration, inhibition of oxygen consumption and parasiticidal action was more remarkable. 2. The oxygen consumption was inhibited also in the concentration of $10^{-2}$ and $2{\times}10^{-3}g/ml$ of sodium cholate. 3. In the presence of sodium cholate, oxygen consumption of C.S was more remarkably inhibited by MTPA or Hexachlorophene than the absence of sodium cholate. 4. From those results, it may be considered that sodium cholate combined with MTPA or Hexachlorophene produced potentiation in its action.

Oxygen consumption by Clonorchis sinensis (C.S.) was observed in a medium of valuable pH of KRP, lack of certain electrolytes of KRP and of glucose, acetic acid or propionic acid was added to KRP. The results were as follows. 1. In a different solutions, KRP with or without $0.4%-glucose$, $0.9%-saline$ solution, the variation of oxygen consumption by C.S. was not significant. 2. Oxygen consumption by C.S. was inhibited by the solution of KCI, $CaCl_2$, or $MgSO_4$ in a 0.9% solution of saline. 3. Under the acidity, oxygen consumption was enhanced but under the alkality, it was inhibited. 4. Oxygen consumption by C.S. was inhibited by acetic acid or propionic acid in KRP solution. 5. C.S. keeping in KRP solution for a long duration, oxygen cosumption was reduced in the course of time.

Saponin, essential oil and fat oil fractions were fractionated from Panax Ginseng and their potentiating or inhibiting actions during the combined use of several central nervous system stimulants or depressants were observed to elucidate the possible role of Ginseng fractions on the central nervous system. Saponin, essential oil and fat oil fractions shortened nembutal sleeping time at low dosage (10 mg/kg) but contrarily they produced potentiation of nembutal hypnosis at high dosage (50mg/kg). In the toxicity study of amphetamine, saponin and essential oil fractions reduced the toxicity in aggregated mice at high dosage (100 mg/kg) but such decreased lethality was not observed in isolated mice. Ginseng fractions, especially high dose of saponin fraction (100mg/kg) prolonged the survival time after injection of convulsive dose of metrazol or cocaine and saponin fraction also prolonged the onset of cocaine convulsion at high dosage (100 mg/kg).

The effects of Ginseng saponin on respiration and $Na^+$, $K^+$ content of rat cerebral cortex slices were investigated to determine the action of Ginseng saponin on brain cortex at cellular level. There are many reports for the study of Ginseng on central stimulatory action in experimental animals. The electrical stimulation of slices of cortex causes a loss of potassium. And the respiration is needed to maintain a supply of energy for active cation transport. The reduction in $Qo_2$ is a consequence of primary cessation of active cation transport. Ginseng saponin stimulated respiration which was depressed by Morphine. But there was no significant change of electrolyte. It is suggested that the Ginseng saponin act rather on metabolic process than neural excitatory mechanism in vitro.

1.On isolated atrial preparation of frog, effects of sympathomimetic amines were investigated. 2. Isoproterenol, epinephrine, norepinephrine, and phenylephrine produced positive chronotropic and inotropic effects. The relative potencies for the effects of these agents were: isoproterenol > epinephrine> norepinephrine> phenylephrine. Methoxamine had no effects or depressed the atria. 3. Pronethalol antagonized the positive effects of these adrenergic agents competitively. 4. Regitine did not affect the effects of these agents. 5. These data indicate that the adrenergic agents activate the atrial tissue of the frog via stimulation of adrenergic beta-receptor.

In the present investigation, the anti-inflammatory activity of glycyrrhetic acid derivatives (abbreviated as AMKOA, 28-OMKOA, 30-OMKOA) was compared with hydrocortisone and sodium salicylate by a new anti-inflammatory test, utilizing the chorio-allantoic membrane of the chick embryo, which is outstandingly suitable for large scale screening of new compounds. The anti-inflammatory activity of the glycyrrhetic acid derivatives was similar to hydrocortisone and superior to sodium salicylate.

Alloxan is a well known diabetogenic agent which destroys the beta-cell of the Langerhan's islet. The authors investigated the influence of the repeated infusion of glucose solution upon the toxicity of alloxan in the mice. The effects of glucose on the blood sugar content and the serum transaminase (S-GOT and S-GPT) activities in the rabbits treated with alloxan were also observed. The results were as follows: 1. The $LD_{50}$ of alloxan in mice showed a slight decrease by pretreatment with glucose for one or two weeks. 2. The elevated blood sugar level in rabbits induced by alloxan shelved a significant fall for the first 3 days by pretreatment with glucose. 3. The increased serum transaminase activities in rabbits induced by alloxan decreased for the first 3 days by pretreatment with glucose.

The fungistatic effects of extract and crystal (A) of Berberis Koreans Palibin, a common shrub in Korea, were obeserved and compared with undecylenic acid and vegetable oil. In vitro studies, the spores of fungi were inoculated on Sabouraud's glucose agar media which contained compounds of various concentration, and the growth of the fungi was observed for 3 weeks. The species of the fungi used in these experiments were Epidermophyton floccosum, Microsporum gypseum, Microsporum audouini, Microsporum canis, Microsporum nanum, Microsporum cookei, Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton tonsurans and Trichophyton verrucosum. The results of the studies were as follows: 1. The growth of E. floccosum, M. audouni, M. canis, M. nanum, M. cookei, was inhibited in Sabouraud's glucose agar media containing extract and crystal (A) of Berberis Koreana Palibin 1 mg/ml.

Acetylsalicylic acid, administered intravenously in a dose of 120 mg+250 mg/h, markedly decreased the urinary excretion of sodium and chloride, and slightly depressed potassium excretion, so that the ratio of urinary concentrations of potassium to sodium increased after ASA. Osmolar and free water clearances also diminished during water diuresis, and free water reabsorption $(T^cH_2O)$ decreased after ASA during mannitol diuresis. Glomerular filtration rate and urine flow rate changed little. When infused directly into a renal artery, ASA exhibited identical action on both kidneys, indicating that the renotropic action is mediated by some endogenous humoral agents or by some metabolites of ASA. A dose of 100 mg i.v. of spironolactone, a aldosterone antagonist, slightly reversed the renal reflect when given during maximum action of ASA. Ethacrynic acid could display its full diuretic action unhindered during maximum ASA action. Above observations lead to the suggestion that acetylsalicylic acid might release aldosterone and the action on electrolyte excretion may be mediated by the mineralocorticoid.

전신마취가토(全身麻醉家兎) 및 춘체가토(春體家兎)에 tetrabenazine(40mg/kg)을 투어(投與)한 후(後) norepinephrine 및 tyramine에 대(對)한 승압반응(昇壓反應) 및 심박증가(心搏增加) 반응(反應)을 검색하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1) 전신가토(全身家兎)에서 TBZ투여(投與) 2시간(時間) 이내(以內)에는 NE에 대(對)한 승압반응(昇壓反應)은 강화(强化)되지 않았다. 2) 전신가토(全身家兎)에서 TBZ투여(投與) 5시간후(時間後)에는 NE에 대(對)한 승압반응(昇壓反應)은 강화(强化)되었으며 10시간후(時間後)에는 강화(强化)는 최고(最高)에 달(達)하였고, 24시간(時間), 48시간후(時間後)에는 점차(漸次)이 강화(强化)는 소실(消失)되었다. 3) 춘체가토(春體家兎)에서 TBZ투여(投輿) 10시간후(時間後)에는 NE에 대(對)한 승압반응(昇壓反應)은 현저(顯著)히 강화(强化)되었고 심박증가반응(心搏增加反應)도 증강(增强)한 경향(傾向)을 보였다. 그러나 24시간 후(時間 後)에는 이러한 강화(强化)는 볼 수 없었다. 4) 전신가토(全身家兎)에서 TBZ투여(投與)로 NE승압반응(昇壓 反應)이 강화(强化)되어 있는 상태하(狀態下)에서는 desipramine으로써 더 이상 반응(以上 反應)이 증가(增加)되지 않았다. 5) 춘체가토(春體家兎)에서 TBZ투여(投與)로 NE승압반응(昇壓 反應)이 강화(强化) 되어 있는 상태하(狀態下)에서 desipramine으로써 그 반응(反應)은 더욱 증가(增加)되었다. 6) TBZ투여(投與) 2시간(時間) 및 6시간후(時間後)에 carbachol을 주사(注射)한 가토(家兎)에서는 NE에 대(對)한 승압반응(昇壓反應)의 강화(强化)는 현저(顯著)히 억제(抑制)되었다. 7) TBZ투여(投與) 10시간후(時間後), 전신가토(全身家兎)의 tyramine에 대(對)한 승압반응(昇壓反應)은 약화(弱化)되지 않았고 춘체가토(春體家兎)의 tyramine에 대(對)한 반응(反應)은 강화(强化)되었다. 8) TBZ로서 NE에 대(對)한 supersensitivity가 발생(發生)하고 tyramine에 대(對)한 반응(反應)은 약화(弱化)되지 않고 carbachol로서 NE에 대(對)한 supersensitivity가 방지(防止)되었음은, NE에 대(對)한 supersensitivity발생(發生)에 뇌내(腦內) catecholamine 감소(減少)에 따른 교감신경계(交感神經系) tone의 감소(減少)가 관계(關係)있음을 시사(示唆)하고 있다.
