  • What distinguishes Impression Liu Sanjie, directed by Zhang yimou from other stage performances lies in its use of space. Firstly, it breaks the regular way of performing in a limited theater space but instead, impression Liu sanjie bases the stage activities on the real nature scenery. Secondly, it promotes the local culture by combining the unique color effect of the particular nature scenery with its use of the scenery's natural space, with an aesthetic precision. In another word, Impression Liu Sanjie is not a simple performance set on the natural scenery but more of a promotion to the local culture, through the concept of "environment friend" between human and nature, which is brought by mixing the unique color of natural scenery and its natural space. This research analyzes the Impression Liu Sanjie's use of space basing on Proxemics by Edward T Hall. Impression Liu Sanjie adapts its character from a folk tale, employs the form of natural scenery performance, and at the same time to the largest extent throughout its creating process respects the local culture and its natural space. As a result, the performance presents the idea of "environmentally friendly".

  • Zhang yimou's film "the shadow" adopts a lot of modern literary symbolic content in the story structure. The novel has been greatly modified, abandoning the setting of the original work and making up the historical background of the story, thus completing the discourse practice of aerial literature rather than historical literature. The film expresses the historical story poetically and even writes the personal mind. In this way, the audience's sense of substitution is increased, and a large number of traditional Chinese cultural symbols are adopted visually. In terms of clothing, the most traditional is sought, which advocates loyalty to history, and adds cultural connotation and depth. The audience can feel the bold and unfettered artistic creation spirit of the main creator, as well as the novel and unique visual expression style, which makes his works have both traditional visual perception and modern story content. The combination of traditional vision and modern drama forms a new visual and cultural experience.

  • This research analyzes the characteristics of Chinese tragic films with Chinese traditional ethical ideology as the core, analyzes its specific performance in the plot and ending setting of the film , and analyzes the director's tragic narrative strategy of cultural reconciliation in the face of political environment to understand the characteristics of Chinese contemporary tragic films. The film is a Chinese contemporary tragic film with The Great Cultural Revolution as its historical background. This film is a representative film of Chinese contemporary tragic films. The classic plot has played a certain role in the expression of Chinese traditional ethical ideology such as fatalism and optimistic attitude to life. The male lead's thought changes interpret the Chinese-style tragedy characteristics containing Chinese traditional ethical ideology. In the setting of the ending, the film broke through the "happy ending" model of Chinese traditional tragedies, and chose the open ending of "one tragedy to the end", further showing the time feature of Chinese contemporary tragic film. The euphemism and tenderness of the film as a tragic film is not only due to the compromise with the political culture of power, but also the result of the director's in-depth understanding of the aesthetics of Chinese tragedy. Through the use of symbolic signs in the film language, it has formed the implicit characteristics of the film narrative in the tragic aesthetic experience. In this paper, the author conducts text analysis for the film and discusses presentation of Director Yimou Zhang's tragic feelings and using the tragic narrative strategy of cultural reconciliation to show his creative wisdom in pursuing artistic breakthroughs under political pressure.

  • This study is to research the symbolism of the Eastern and Western costumes' color in films. Therefore, I chose movies about colors, which are 'Trzy Kolory', a Western movie directed by Krzysztof Kieslowski and 'Hero', an Eastern movie directed by Zhang Yimou. The purpose of this study is to figure out the symbolism of the common colors shown in both movie which are red, blue and white. Also, by comparing the eastern and western color symbols I studied the ambivalence of colors. Therefore, the comparison of the eastern and western color symbolisms are as the followings. The color red symbols charity in the movie and jealous, hatless, lies, expansion, self esteem, resist, struggle and sadness in the movie . The color blue symbols freedom, lost, gloomy and sadness in the movie and sacrifice and sadness in the movie . The color white symbols equality and emptiness in the movie and true love, sadness and sacrificed love in the movie . Consequently, it appears that the colors symbolize differently in the East and the West. Three series of which is the West movie has more positive meanings than the Eastern movie. Therefore, the meanings of symbols of the costumes' color are different in the East and West as they have different cultures, and also they could be expressed differently by the directors intention.

Thus the color's symbolic meaning has become an essential element in the color and function of the film. • The purpose of this study is to study the community narrative ethics of China·Taiwan film. in the context of globalization and locality. I especially wish to look this part through narrative·hermenutical approach and communitarian ethics against contemporary liberalism and individualism. In particular, this article focuses on the works of Hou Hsiao-Hsien, Zhang Yimou, Lee Ang, Tsai Ming-Liang, Chang Tso-chi and Chen Kaige. China and Taiwan's main directors show family and country's community narratives through the self understanding and identification that we call narrative conception of the self. The idea of local community and identity is related with inheritances, history and tradition from the past of my family, my city, my tribe, my nation. Main directors make and have the story of those communities which I derive my identity. And community narratives from the life histories that define us form local community's solidarity should have the openness to other communities. Community narratives shouldn't be separated from the aspect of globalization and locality. After all, I examined whether the local community narratives reveals meaningfully from the standpoint of globalization and locality through China·Taiwan film.
