A Statistical Analysis of Tree-Harvesting Worker Safety

  • Tree-harvesting worker data of 508 separate worker accidents are analyzed and an exploratory approach taken. The worker accident data cover a sample of five years. The scope of the study was the southeastern United States of America. As might be hypothesized, the chainsaw was the most hazardous type of tree-harvesting equipment. It accounted for 55% of the tree-harvesting accidents. Most chainsaw accidents resulted in injuries to the lower extremities and were more frequent among younger employees. The probability of one or more chainsaw accidents occurring in any 30-day period was approximately 0.856. Chainsaw accidents were more likely to occur in late morning and early afternoon. We used statistical tools such as Pareto charts, c-charts and Ishikawa diagrams. Such tools are useful in diagnosing the root-cause of tree-harvesting worker accidents and help in developing preventive safety programs. Recommendations to help improve the quality of information of accident data collected by insurance companies and others are briefly given. The strategy and culture of continuous process improvements are stressed.

Implementation of a Gesture Recognition Signage Platform for Factory Work Environments

  • This paper presents an implementation of a gesture recognition platform that can be used in a factory workplaces. The platform consists of signages that display worker's job orders and a control center that is used to manage work orders for factory workers. Each worker does not need to bring work order documents and can browse the assigned work orders on the signage at his/her workplace. The contents of signage can be controlled by worker's hand and arm gestures. Gestures are extracted from body movement tracked by 3D depth camera and converted to the commandsthat control displayed content of the signage. Using the control center, the factory manager can assign tasks to each worker, upload work order documents to the system, and see each worker's progress. The implementation has been applied experimentally to a machining factory workplace. This flatform provides convenience for factory workers when they are working at workplaces, improves security of techincal documents, but can also be used to build smart factories.

The Impacts of Social Welfare Worker's Interpersonal Stress on Job Burnout and Turnover Intention - Focusing on Moderating Effects of Stress Coping Ability

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between interpersonal stress and job burnout, turnover intention of social welfare worker's in social welfare center and efficient response of welfare worker's. In order to accomplish this study purpose, the interpersonal stress of social welfare worker's in social welfare center as an independent variable, interpersonal stress as a dependent variable of job burnout and turnover intention, and stress coping ability as a moderating variable were selected. The causal relationship between interpersonal stress and job burnout, turnover intention and the moderating effect of stress coping ability were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, the interpersonal stress of social welfare worker's showed a significant effect on job burnout and turnover intention. Also, moderating effects of stress copying ability were significant. Based on the results of this analysis, the theoretical implications and policy implications of this study are suggested, and the directions and limitations of this study are suggested.

작업자 무영향도출수준(worker-DNEL)의 사업장 적용을 위한 평가 연구 (Evaluation of the Application of worker-DNELs under REACH Guidance as Provisional Occupational Exposure Limits in the Workplace)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to calculate the worker-DNEL (Derived No Effect Level) values using the REACH guidance and compare the calculated DNELs with existing Korea occupational exposure limits (KOELs) for evaluation of the applicability of the worker-DNELs as provisional occupational exposure limits for chemicals that are not established KOELs in the workplace. Methods: The worker-DNELs for 46 chemicals among 113 hazardous substance requiring management were calculated using the REACH guidance, and a paired t-test was performed to see if there is any statistical difference between two lists (worker-DNELs vs KOELs). The ratios of KOELs over worker-DNELs were also calculated to compare the overall levels of two lists using the geometric means method. Results: The calculated worker-DNELs for 46 chemicals ranged from 0.001 to $329mg/m^3$ (GM= 6.9, GSD = 10.8), and appeared to be a significant difference between the worker-DNELs and the KOELs (p < 0.01). In addition, the ratios of KOELs over worker-DNELs ranged from 0.3 to 394 times (GM = 10.2, GSD = 3.9), indicating that the worker-DNELs were, on average, 27 times lower than the KOELs. Conclusions: Therefore, the study results show that the calculated worker-DNELs can be applied and used as provisional occupational exposure limits in the workplace in order to reduce worker exposures to chemicals and health risks, and manage potential worker exposures based on the precautionary principle through comprehensive chemical risk assessment.

직무요구-자원모형을 적용한 지역아동센터 종사자의 업무환경, 직무열의, 직무소진 간 관련성 (A Correlation among Work Environment, Job Engagement, and Burnout of Workers at a Community Children's Center Based on the JD-R Model)

  • 본 연구는 지역아동센터 종사자들의 직무열의 증진 및 소진 예방을 위한 정책적, 실천적 대안 마련에 필요한 기초자료를 제공하기 위해 직무요구-자원(JD-R) 모형을 기초로 업무환경(직무요구와 직무자원)과 직무열의, 직무소진 간의 관련성을 검증하는데 목적이 있다. 조사대상은 대전지역 지역아동센터 종사자 447명으로, 자기 기입식 설문조사방식으로 진행하였다. 분석에는 SPSS 23.0과 AMOS 23.0을 사용하였다. 연구결과를 요약하면, 첫째, 연구모형의 적합도는 CFI=.900, RMSEA=.077로 나타났다. 둘째, 주요변수 간 관련성을 살펴본 결과, ①직무자원이 많다고 인식할수록 직무열의가 높아진 반면, 직무소진에는 직접적인 영향을 미치지 않았다. ②직무요구가 많다고 인식할수록 직무소진이 높아졌으나 직무열의에는 직접적인 영향을 미치지 않았다. ③직무열의가 높을수록 직무소진은 낮아지는 것으로 확인되었다. 이러한 결과는 JD-R 모형을 근거로 지역아동센터 종사자의 업무환경이 직무열의와 직무소진에 미치는 영향력을 증명했다는 것에 학문적 의의가 있다. 또한 지역아동센터 종사자들의 직무열의 향상과 직무소진 감소를 위해 지역아동센터의 업무환경 변화를 도모해야 할 필요성에 대해 시사하고 있다.

임목수확방법별 벌도작업 생산성 및 비용 분석 (Productivity and Costs of Felling Operation for Three Harvesting Methods in Mixed Forest Stands)

  • 본 연구는 동일한 임분조건에서 작업자 2명(A: 작업경력 5년 이하, B: 작업경력 15년 이상)을 대상으로 임목수확방법별(전목수확 전간수확 단목수확)에 따른 벌도작업의 작업생산성과 비용을 분석하였다. 전목작업에서 작업자 A의 생산성은 $10.3m^3/SMH$, 작업비용은 2,066원/$m^3$이며, 작업자 B는 생산성 $12.7m^3/SMH$, 작업비용 2,201원/$m^3$으로 산출되었으며, 시간당 생산성은 작업자 B가 다소 높았지만, 작업비용은 작업자 B의 높은 임금으로 작업자 A가 약간 낮게 나타났다(p>0.05). 전간작업의 경우 작업자 A와 B의 생산성은 각각 $2.2m^3/SMH$$3.3m^3/SMH$이며, 작업비용은 각각 9,890원/$m^3$과 8,459원/$m^3$으로, 작업자 B가 A보다 생산성은 높게, 작업비용은 낮게 산출되어 작업의 숙련도에 따라 큰 차이를 보이고 있었다(p<0.05). 단목작업에서 작업자 A와 B의 생산성은 $2.3m^3/SMH$$3.0m^3/SMH$, 작업비용은 9,584원/$m^3$, 9,395원/$m^3$으로, 작업자 B의 생산성이 높고, 작업비용은 낮게 산출되었다(p>0.05). 이와 같이 벌도작업 중에서도 임목의 절단작업과 같이 높은 숙련도를 요구하지 않는 단순작업에서는 오히려 작업자의 임금이 생산비용에 크게 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 가지정리와 같이 임지 내 벌도목 사이를 이동하며, 작업하는 것은 작업자의 높은 숙련도가 작업경비의 저감에 영향을 미치는 것으로 판단된다.

수치해석에 의한 국부냉방시스템의 온열환경 및 쾌적성 분석 (Numerical Analysis of Thermal Environments and Comfort for Local Air Conditioning System)

  • Numerical simulation using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is performed to calculate the velocities and temperature profiles of air in adjacent to a worker within the individual local air conditioning system. The calculation domain is the space of ㄴ between walls and a worker in the climate room. The fresh air is supplied from the three different inlets located on the right, left and center wall in the climate room. In this study, the calculated data of velocities and temperature profiles of air in the nearest the skin of a worker are used to calculate the PMV (Predicted Mean Vote) for evaluation of thermal comfort of a worker in the local air conditioning system. Because the data of veto-cities temperature profiles of air in adjacent to a worker and the PMV of a worker are the design parameters of the local air conditioning system. The results of calculation show that the fresh air velocity and injection position are closely related to the PMV value. In individual air condition system of ㄴ, the appropriate PMV are obtained when the fresh air velocity and position are 1.0 m/s, throat of a worker and are 1.5 m/s, head of a worker, respectively. The method of numerical calculation is effective to obtain the optimum velocity and position of the fresh air for optimum the PMV and energy saving in individual local air conditioning system.

서울시 요양보호사 처우개선을 위한 지원방안 연구 (A study on the Improvement of Welfare System for Care Worker in Seoul)

  • Long-term care Insurance system for the Elderly was started to respond to the aged society on July 2008 in Korea. So responsibility of the care for the old is being changed from the family to the society. The introduction of that insurance system has brought the growth of demand for care service. To improve the level of quality for care service providers in long-term care, the role of care worker in providers is recognized as important. But welfare system for the care worker seems to be poor. So the Seoul Metropolitan Council is preparing an ordinance for the care worker and the purpose of this study is for the ordinance as well. Questionnaires, interviews, documentary surveys were used to carry out this study. The results of this study are summarized as follows. The job stability is the most important thing for the care worker, so local government has to make efforts to promote the job stability of care worker. A welfare center for care workers is needed for the health for care workers in the local government. And the local government has to supervise service providers more strictly and evaluate them in treatments of care worker.

웨어러블 소프트 센서 장갑의 손가락 관절 관절가동범위 측정에 대한 신뢰도 분석 (Reliability Analysis of Finger Joint Range of Motion Measurements in Wearable Soft Sensor Gloves)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare universal goniometry (UG), which is commonly used in clinical practice to measure the range of motion (ROM) of finger joints with a wearable soft sensor glove, and to analyze the reliability to determine its usefulness. Methods: Ten healthy adults (6 males, 4 females) participated in this study. The metacarpophalangeal joint (MCP), interphalangeal joint (IP), and proximal interphalangeal joint (PIP) of both hands were measured using UG and Mollisen HAND soft sensor gloves during active flexion, according to the American Society for Hand Therapists' measurement criteria. Measurements were taken in triplicate and averaged. The mean and standard deviation of the two methods were calculated, and the 95% limits of agreement (LOA) of the measurements were calculated using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Bland-Altman plot to examine the reliability and discrepancies between the measurements. Results: The results of the mean values of the flexion angles for the active range of motion (AROM) of the finger joints showed large angular differences in the finger joints, except for the MCP of the thumb. In the inter-rater reliability analysis according to the measurement method, the ICC (2, 1) value showed a low level close to 0, and the mean difference by the Bland-Altman plot showed a value greater than 0, showing a pattern of discrepancy. The 95% LOA had a wide range of differences. Conclusion: This study is a preliminary study investigating the usefulness of the soft sensor glove, and the reliability analysis showed a low level of reliability and inconsistency. However, if future studies can overcome the limitations of this study and the technical problems of the soft sensor glove in the development stage, it is suggested that the measurement instrument can show more accurate measurement and higher reliability when measuring ROM with UG.

노동운동의 새로운 시도 혹은 제도적 포섭? 비정규노동센터의 성과와 과제 (A New Experiment or Institutional Subsumption? The Outcomes and Tasks of Contingent Worker Center for Korean Labor Movement)

  • 노동시장의 이중화에 직면하여 노동조합 활동을 중심으로 하는 기존의 노동운동에 대한 비판적 시각과 함께 새로운 노동운동의 필요성에 대한 논의가 활발하다. 그 중 하나로 본 연구는 노동자지원센터, 노동인권센터, 비정규센터 등 다양한 이름으로 활동하고 있는 지역의 비정규노동단체에 주목하여 이들 조직이 어떤 경로를 통해 성장 발전해 왔으며 어떻게 외연을 확장할 수 있었는지, 정체성은 무엇인지를 심층적으로 다룬다. 이 글의 핵심적인 내용은 비정규노동단체의 성장과 발전을 통시적인 접근법을 통해 비정규운동을 둘러싼 제도적 맥락의 변화와 그에 따른 운동의 특성 변화 및 정체성 형성의 과정을 재구성하는 것이다. 본 연구는 비정규노동센터운동이 시기적으로 기존 운동으로부터의 차별화, 탈정당화, 네트워크를 매개로 한 복합화과정 등 크게 3단계로 진화해 왔음을 확인할 수 있었다. 나아가 각 과정에서 비정규노동센터들 사이의 내적관계 그리고 이들이 기존의 노사관계행위자들과 맺는 운동외적관계를 분석적으로 고찰할 수 있었다. 끝으로 본 연구는 최근 주목받고 있는 비정규노동센터운동의 이론적 함의 및 비정규 노동운동의 성공적 사례로 남을 수 있을지 아니면 또 다른 실패로 귀결될 것인지를 토론하였다.
