Deck plates have been widely used for steel framework due to their merits in terms of schedule reduction and work repetition. For this reason, most of the previous studies related to deck plates have focused on the development of form type and their constructability. In this study, through an actual case study and interviews with experts, a simulation model was developed using the CYCLONE method. Based on this model, this study not only analyzed the productivity of the work process of the deck plate in steel framework, but also identified the occurrence of idle time in the work process. In addition, using a sensitivity analysis, productivity and duration could be analyzed according to variation of input resources. Based on the results, this paper suggests a way to improve the productivity of deck plate work in steel frameworks. Using the model, it is expected that project managers would be able to predict the productivity and total duration of the deck plate work in the early project phase, which will enable managers to make an appropriate plan for input resources.

Purpose: This study describes the associations between shift work factors, workplace violence bystander types, and the missed nursing care of hospital nurses. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among hospital nurses using structured questionnaires related to shift work factors, workplace violence bystander types, and missed nursing care. The study participants were 199 nurses caring for adult patients and working in two tertiary hospitals. Results: The missed nursing care of the participants showed a statistically significant positive correlation with the facilitating bystander (r=.40, p<.001) and abdicating bystander (r=.28, p<.001) among the workplace violence bystander types. However, rest time during duty showed a significant negative correlation (r=-.16, p=.026). A regression model with control variables (department and clinical career), shift work factors, and workplace violence bystander types explained approximately 25% of missed nursing care of the study participants. Further, the facilitating bystander type influenced the missed nursing care of hospital nurses. Conclusion: As a result of examining the associations between shift work factors, workplace violence bystander types, and missed nursing care of hospital nurses, it was confirmed that missed nursing care was influenced by the facilitating bystander type. It is necessary to improve the nursing culture within the department so that nurses do not behave as negative bystanders to workplace violence.

Diversification of project delivery methods (PDM) under ever-changing construction business environment has significantly changed the role of project participants. Active efforts to effectively sharing the roles and responsibilities have been observed in the project management offices (PMOs) among owner/operator organizations as well as engineering, procurement, construction and maintenance (EPCM) firms. In order for being effective in a holistic way throughout the project life-cycle, a PMO needs to have 'adequate management skills' as well as 'essential technical capabilities' in cooperating with many different participants. One of the well-known examples of the PMO's tool to support these skills and capabilities is the effective 'work packaging (WP)' that serves as a common basis integrating all relevant information in a structured manner. In an attempt to enhance the construction productivity, the concept of 'advanced work packing (AWP)' has been introduced by Construction Industry Institute (CII). The AWP enables productivity to be improved by early planning of construction packages in the design phase "with the end in mind". The purpose of this study is to identify and evaluate the 'variables' of advanced work packing (AWP) for life-cycle information integration. Firstly, an extended concept of advanced WP based on the CII AWP was defined in order to comprehend many different issues of business functions (e.g. cost, schedule, quality, etc.). A structured list of major components and variables of AWP were then identified and examined for practical viability with real-world examples. Strategic fits and managerial effectiveness were stressed throughout the analyses. Findings, implications and lessons learned are briefly discussed as well.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the impact of a nurse shift improvement pilot project on nurses' shift adjustment, work-life balance, and turnover intention, as well as nurses' experiences of participating in the pilot project. Methods: An explanatory sequential mixed-methods study was performed. Survey data was collected from a total of 1,051 nurses both in participant and non-participant groups. For the qualitative study, focus group interviews were conducted with 22 nurses who participated in the shift improvement pilot, including 12 staff nurses, 7 nurse managers, and 3 substitute nurses. Results: There were significant positive effects on the key variables of nurses' shift adjustment, work-life balance, and turnover intention in the group that participated in the nurse shift improvement pilot project. Based on the qualitative study, participants in the shift improvement pilot project indicated that it enabled nurses to recover their circadian rhythm, and achieve a better work-life balance, and they wanted to continue working as a nurse, and hoped expanded application of the pilot project. Conclusion: In order for expanded implementation of the pilot project and continued improvement in the shift system, we recommend establishing compensation standard, systematizing the use of substitute nurses, developing guidelines for shift schedules, and expanding the shift improvement pilot project to other departments such as the emergency room.
The third-party logistics industry mainly delivers goods from a place to an arrival place on behalf of the freight owner. To handle the work, they need a transportation route including transportation equipment between the starting place and the arrival place, schedule information for departure/arrival and transportation cost. Actually, automatic searching for an optimal transportation route, which considers arrival and departure points for intermodal transportation, is not a simple problem. To search efficiently transportation route, the collection of schedule information for intermodal transportation and transportation route generation have become critical and vital issues for logistics companies. Usually, they manually make a plan for a transportation route by their experience. Because of this, they are limited in their ability if there is too much cargo volume and a great many transactions. Furthermore, their dependence on the conventional way in doing business causes an inefficient selection of transporters or transportation routes. Also, it fails to provide diverse alternatives for transportation routes to the customers, and as a result, increases logistics costs. In an effort to solve these problems, this study aims to develop a route planning system based on agent, which can collect scattered schedule information on the Web. The route planning system also has an algorithm for transportation route generation in intermodal transportation.
For the purpose of implementing health and nutrition education for college women, we investigated changes in height, weight, and daily living schedule, as well as the relationship between energy intake and expenditure, and food and nutrients intake levels for the six years from 1977 to 1982. A special form of questionaires was prepared and distributed to well-trained subjects (total 213) in order to find out their general characteristics, daily living schedule and dietary intakes. The recovery of questionaires distributed to each subject was 90%. Then the quality of their living, energy balance, nutrient intake and food intake were evaluated and the F-test was used to test the statistical significances. It was found that : 1) The range of weights and heights of subjects were between 48-50 kg, 157-161cm respectively over the 6 year period. 2) In daily living schedule, that is, the average physiological activity time including sleeping ranged from 760 to 801 minutes. Free time decreased gradually, from 318 minutes per day in 1977 to 275 minutes in 1982. Average time for study and for house work was 196-280 minutes and 68 - 157 minutes respectively for 6 years, and study time was significantly varied in each year. 3) The energy intake of the subjects averaged 1762 Kcal, whereas the expended energy was 1892 Kcal. In the energy balance determined by the relationship between energy intake and expendituye, the ratio of subjects who maintained a negative energy balance gradually increased from 53% (1977) to 64%(1982). 4) The average nutrient intake was higher than the recommended dietary allowance except for calorie (1997 - 1982), calcium (1979) and iron (1979, 1980). The total calorie intake was composed of 59-63% carbohydrate, 19 - 24% fat and 15 - 18% protein Of the total protein intake the percentage of animal was 47 -51% for six years, showing acceptable nutritional status. 5) The average total food intake of the subjects increased from 1,080 g (1977) to 1,184g (1982), but this was not a significant difference. Cereal composed the highest proportion among the total food intakes, and rice intake was 58-78% of cereals. Cereal was followed in decreasing order by vegetables, dairy products, fruits, meat and fish products. The option available for the selection of cooking methods as well as the selection of food item was limited, so there were few changes over time.

The modular construction has several advantages such as high quality of product, safe work condition and short construction duration. The manufacturing planning of modular construction should consider time frame of manufacturing, transport and erection process with limited resources (e.g., modular units, transporter and workers). The manufacturing planning of multi modular construction project manages the modular construction's characteristics and diversity of projects, as a type of modular unit, modular unit quantities, and date for delivery. However, current modular manufacturing planning techniques are weak in dealing with resource interactions and each project requirement in multi modular construction project environments. Inefficient allocation of resources during multi modular construction project may cause delays and cost overruns to construction operation. In this circumstance, this research suggest a manufacturing planning model for schedule optimization of multi project of modular construction, using genetic algorithm as one of the powerful method for schedule optimization with multiple constrained resources. Comparing to the result of the existed schedule of case study, setting optimized scheduling for multi project decrease the total factory producing schedule. By using proposed optimization tool, efficient allocation of resource and saving project time is expected.

As logistics facilities have a high ceiling height, simple structure, and the need for a quick return on investment, it is usually essential to advance the construction schedule of such facilities. Accordingly, PC structures, which require less labor, cost and schedule, can be more competitive than RC structures. However, most construction companies in Korea are familiar with RC structure design, have negative perceptions regarding PC structures, and do not sufficiently adopt new construction techniques. The structure that this research features has 110 columns that are 14 m high and are built to the same specification, and applying an RC design to the structure will lead to issues related to constructibility, economic viability, project duration and safety. Therefore, this study intends to feature PC design as an alternative to the RC warehouse design, and perform a comparative analysis of the reduction in labor, cost and construction schedule to highlight benefits. The research outcomes herein will provide inputs to subsequent studies on new construction strategies to advance the construction schedule, improve quality and constructibility, enhance safety and save costs.

A high-rise building construction in Korea has some problems in engineering, construction and management technologies although the high-rise building construction is recently booming. In addition, the lack of skilled construction labors is increasing, so the development for methods is needed to reduce the labors by prefabrication and mechanization. A re-bar work is one of very important works with regard to cost and schedule management in the high-rise building construction. Nevertheless, the re-bar work has some problems that it is needed many re-bars for joints linking and much time for lifting due to high-rise buildings, and it is difficult to level the skill of labors. So, in this study, the pre-fabrication of three-story height in column re-bars is proposed and the results of an implementation are analyzed and explored by a case study. As the results of case study, the pre-fabrication of three-story heights in column re-bars could reduce the cost in the re-bar work and accelerate the time in the structural frame work. In addition, the pre-fabrication of three-story height in column re-bars could solve the problems such as the waste of many re-bars for joints linking, and the lack of the skilled labors.

Domestic construction firms make every effort to save cost and, contrarily, enhance quality for competitive advantage in the market. Structural work of building construction takes chaise of the total cost and schedule, thus elaborate planning and management of the work help to lead the project into a successful way. Therefore, the idea to save time and cost and enhance constructability securing quality and safety of the work should be developed after analyzing the designed documents and site conditions comprehensively in the initial construction planning phase. Value Engineering (VE) technique is introduced in the substructural work in this paper to save cost creatively and systematically in the design and construction phase. A practical VE model that is applied to the underground building work systematically is proposed to save cost and it applies to the actual project to confirm the effectiveness of the model.
