  • Microwave radiometry, as a non-invasive technique which doesn't pierce inside human and can measure the temperature, is to diagnose early the disease or abnormality by measuring the temperature inside human. In this paper, as an antenna for measuring human radiometric signals, we simulated and measured a dipole-type antenna with circular loops. As a measured result has a ultra wideband characteristic of $130%(0.8\sim3.8GHz)\;for\;511\leq-10dB$, it is considered to be suitable to detect the position and size of human tissue having various diseases.

  • Based on the new detection criterion proposed in Part 1 for the detecton of weak M-ary signals, a detection scheme for ultra wideband multiple access systems is investigated in the presence of impulsive interference. Simulation results show that the proposed detector, requiring less complexity, possesses almost the same performance as the maximum likelihood detector. In impulsive interference, the proposed detector also offers performance improvement over the detector optimized for Gaussian environment.

  • The capacity of ultra-wideband (UWB) systems in presence of narrowband interference (NBI) is studied. By appropriately modifying the Shannon capacity formula, an analytical expression for the capacity of M-ary pulse position modulation (PPM) signals in the presence of NBI is obtained. Performance evaluation results for the capacity of such signals as a function of the NBI carrier frequency and power are also presented.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel D-ATR (Differential-Average Transmitted Reference) scheme for UWB (Ultra Wide Band) based on impulse radio. The proposed scheme utilizing differential coding at transceiver, does not cause half loss of data rate unlike the conventional TR (Transmitted Reference) and ATR (Average TR) systems which transmit additional reference signals. In addition, the proposed scheme may provide improved BER (Bit Error Rate) performance by averaging the received reference signals like the conventional ATR. The proposed D-ATR receiver produces the averaged reference template by considering both the detected data bit and the differential coding rule.

  • This letter proposes an energy-detection-based non-data-aided weighted non-coherent receiver (NDA-WNCR) scheme for impulse radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) pulse-position modulated signals. Compared to the conventional WNCR, the optimal weights of the proposed NDA-WNCR are tremendously simplified as the maximum eigenvector of the IR-UWB signal energy sample autocorrelation matrix. The NDA-WNCR serves to blindly obtain the optimal weights and entirely circumvent the transmission of training symbols or channel estimation in practice. Analysis and simulation results verify that the bit error rate (BER) performance of the NDA-WNCR closely approaches the ideal BER of the conventional WNCRs.

  • Under the condition of a common narrowband target signal and interference signals from several directions, the linearly constrained minimum variance (LCMV) method using the generalized sidelobe canceller (GSC) for adaptive beamforming has been exploited successfully However, in the case of wideband signals, the length of the adaptive filter must be extended. As a result, the complexity of the beamformer increases, which makes real-time implementation difficult. In this paper, we improve the convergence characteristics of the adaptive filter using the transform domain normalized least mean square (NLMS) approach based on the subband GSC structure without the increase of complexity. Besides, the M-MAX algorithm, which is one of various selective coefficient updating methods, is employed in order to remarkably reduce the computational cost without decreasing the convergence quality. With the combination of these methods, we propose a computationally efficient wideband adaptive beamformer and verify its efficiency through a series of simulations.

  • PD(partial discharge) occurred from variable PD sources in air may be the cause of breakdown in high voltage equipment which affect huge outage in power system. Identification and localization of PD sources is very important for engineer to cope with huge accident beforhand. PD phenomena can be detected by acoustic emission sensor or electromagnetic sensor like antenna. This paper has investigated the identification method using PCA(principal component analysis) for the PD signals from variable PD sources, for which the electric field distribution and PD inception voltages were simulated by using commercial FEM program. PD signals was detected by ultra wideband antenna. Their own features were extracted as the frequency coefficients transformed with FFT(fast fourier transform) and used to obtain independent pincipal components of each PD signals.

  • In this paper, we demonstrate an electrically band-limited carrier-suppressed return-to-zero (EB-CSRZ) signal generator operating up to a 10 Gbps data rate comprising a single-stage Mach-Zehnder modulator and a wideband signal mixer. The wideband signal mixer comprises inverter stages, a mixing stage, and a gain amplifier. It is implemented by using a 0.13 ${\mu}m$ CMOS technology. Its transmission response shows a frequency range from DC to 6.4 GHz, and the isolation response between data and clock signals is about 21 dB at 6.4 GHz. Experimental results show optical spectral narrowing due to incorporating an electrical band-limiting filter and some waveform distortion due to bandwidth limitation by the filter. At 10 Gbps transmission, the chromatic dispersion tolerance of the EB-CSRZ signal is better than that of NRZ-modulated signal in single-mode fiber.

  • PD in air is accompanied by light, sound and electromagnetic wave. Light and sound can be prevented from blocking between PD sources and sensor but electromagnetic wave can be transferred to long distance without any interference an captured by antenna. This paper investigated the wideband antenna is appropriate for sensing Partial discharge in air. PD was generated from simulated PD source which consist of needle and flat electrode with small gap. Signals obtained from wideband antenna were diminished in both time and frequence region with the distance between PD source and antenna.

  • Extremely fine tine resolution of ultra-wideband (UWB) signal poses a new problems to the system designer. A reasonable accuracy of the system clock is necessary to process signals with such a high space resolution. A useful way of illustrating the time resolution of a signal is to evaluate the ambiguity function. The ambiguity function for carrierless UWB defined using the time mismatch and time scaling factor as its two parameters. The UWB ambiguity function is evaluated for various signaling schemes of impulse radio.
