Morphology-Dependent Evolution of Galaxies in Mid-infrared Green Valley

  • We investigate the evolution of galaxies in mid-infrared (MIR) $[3.4{\mu}m]-[12{\mu}m]$ color versus $12{\mu}$ luminosity diagram using Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer data for member galaxies of the A2199 supercluster at $z{\simeq}0.03$. In the MIR color-luminosity diagram, we classify galaxies into three MIR classes: MIR blue cloud (massive, quiescent and mostly early-type), MIR star-forming sequence (mostly late-type), and MIR green valley galaxies. Both MIR green valley galaxies and MIR blue cloud galaxies are optically red sequence populations, and there is no significant difference in star formation rates and stellar masses between them. We compare cumulative distribution functions of surface galaxy number density and of cluster/group-centric distance between three MIR classes. However, when considering only early-type galaxies, the difference between MIR blue cloud galaxies and MIR green valley galaxies disappears. In contrast, the intermediate trend of MIR green valley galaxies is still found for late-type galaxies. We discuss our results concerning the difference of evolution between early- and late-type galaxies and the connection to environment.

  • On March 11, 2011, the Korea National Assembly finally passed the bill on the Damage Relief on the Medical Malpractice and Mediation for Medical Dispute. One of the features of this Act is including "The Subrogation Payment System for Damage (abbreviated SPSD)". This System is that 'Korean Medical Dispute Mediation-Arbitration Board' pays the damages, instead of the health care provider, for the patient who isn't paid damages by the health care provider despite of the Mediation or ruling. The purpose of this study is to search the problems and make improvement on SPSD. This System was introduced extreamly to the patients in order to induce them to the mediation. However,there remains several problems. In this articles, I have examined thoroughly the legal issues on SPSD. There are legal issues about the methods and ratio of the financial burden. In this connection, wide discretionary authority has been granted to administrative agencies specifically. On this account, this System clearly contains elements of a violation against the Constitutional Law. Moreover, this System can be broadly applied to the case of court ruling or the Korea Consumer Agency's mediation. But these measures go against the aim of legislation that the medical dispute can be resolved through the mediation or arbitration by this Act. In the end, these problems must be revised through the additional discussion.

  • Nowadays, increasing demand of the customized products has led to an increased usage of rapid prototyping in the product development. However, the acquisition price of a rapid prototyping equipment is still too high that not every body can afford to buy one. To offer a wide access to the users who need physical prototypes, a connection of the rapid prototyping equipment to the Internet is a viable step. It would allow a large group of customers all over the world to use the manufacturing capability of a service provider offering this kind of manufacturing service. To realize how such an e-manufacturing concept can look like, a LOM-type 3D printer developed at KIST has been used as test site and connected to the Internet. A possible user can log on to the server of the equipment and view his STL file and start the building operation from a remote place. To see whether the operation runs properly, a CCD camera is used to transmit the actual state of operation online. The result so far proves the feasibility of rapid prototyping on the Internet as well as an order-adaptive manufacturing system via web.

  • GTX(Great Train Express), the wide area express train of a big city center of metropolitan area, is the best new transportation method able to realize 'Low Carbon Green Growth' for solving traffic congestion of the metropolitan area with the connection the metropolitan area into 40-minute life zone by speeding up the standardized velocity, making the route straight and reducing the compensation of land using the space of 40~50m below the ground. In the transportation sector all over the world, if it turned into the public transportation system focusing on the train at a point of time that low carbon green revolution takes the initiative, national competitiveness would be enhanced by reducing the emission of carbon from cars by 1/6. Accordingly, this study is to look into the efficient operation in accordance with GTX construction superintended by currently Gyeonggi province and to consider the optimum operation plan of GTX that are proper for the actual circumstances of the country by comparatively analyzing overseas cases that took their positions as new transportation by curtailment of transit time through highspeed such as London area, Paris area, and Tokyo area etc that are similar to Korean metropolitan area.

  • This study focused on the architectural plan of the pension to meet modem people's desire for rural life, and the result of the study is as follows: First, the architectural plan for the characteristic of the location must apply the various architectural types considering the suburbs, tour and culture town, and community for the location improvement. Second, the architectural plan for the characteristic of the plot requires the encircled space and courtyard between buildings, the private gardens for the rooms, and the consideration of the surrounding environment. Above all, the plan for the subsidiary facilities is the most important. Third, the architectural plan for the characteristic of the plan requires the close connection with the outside, the wide opened view from the guest room, and the individual entrances for the guest rooms. Fourth, the architectural plan for the characteristic of the decorative design must consider the mass separation plan, the application of the facade design factors and eco-friendly environment materials, the night illumination plan, and the space program for the scenic view.

  • The recent rapid growth of air conditioning load has become a major reason of peak load increase in summer. In connection with this, we surveyed the load management projects of utilities world-wide and their detailed activities. This study is to develop a remote load control system using computer and radio communications. We finished the field-test of this system on August 1995 in Seoul area. During the field-test, the remote load control of air conditioners was proved to be well-timed. Two control modes, group control and all control, are available for the user to select. The transmission reliability of the load control signal was very good and the functions of system hardware as well as the software were excellent. So we confirmed the applicability of the load control system including the paper communication network. In this paper, detailed information on the system functions and experimental results are described.

  • Chirimen (silk crepe) has been one of Japan's most distinctive textiles since times and has gained a reputation worldwide as the supreme example of Japanese costume. It is because of its distinctive quality and features, transcending the history, lacation and lacal of the people who wear this form of clothing, that chirimen has continued to highly valued over a long historical period. There is a wide range of literature on the subject of chirimen written from the standpoints of introducing the various types of material, discussing its history, and looking at the origins of the textile unions. However, most such writings are little more than fragmentary attempts to describe these matters from an empirical and publicity-oriented position. Very little serious research has ever been published in this area. In the present study I examine the features of chirimen. I began by directly interviewing kimono wholesalers, kimono stores and Western-style clothing stores on the subject of chirimen in order to establish a clear image of this fabric. I then went on to examine the subject experimentally in terms of the physical properties of the fabric in connection with the features of this image. In the study of the physical properties of the material, I selected habutae as a silk fabric to offer comparisons with chirimen. Habutae is used frequently together with chirimen in garments such as semi-formal visiting kimono (homongi), kimono in non-color fabric (ironashiji), mouming kimono (mofuku), broad-sleeved kimono (tomesode and furisode), and undergarments such ad juban.

Novel Voltage Source Converter for 10 kV Class Motor Drives

  • This paper presents a novel seven-level (7L) voltage source converter for high-power medium-voltage applications. The proposed topology is an H-bridge connection of two nested neutral-point clamped (NNPC) converters and is referred to as an HNNPC converter. This converter exhibits advantageous features, such as operating over a wide range of output voltages, particularly for 10-15 kV applications, without the need to connect power semiconductors in series; high-quality output voltage; and fewer components relative to other classic seven-level topologies. A novel sinusoidal pulse width modulation technique is also developed for the proposed 7L-HNNPC converter to control flying capacitor voltages. One of the main features of the control strategy is the independent application of control to each arm of the converter to significantly reduce the complexity of the controller. The performance of the proposed converter is studied under different operating conditions via MATLAB/Simulink simulation, and its feasibility is evaluated experimentally on a scaled-down prototype converter.

봇넷 탐지를 위한 네트워크 세션 분석 (Network Session Analysis For BotNet Detection)

  • 최근의 사이버 공격은 경쟁사에 대한 DDoS(Distributed Denial of Service)공격과 기밀정보 유출, 일반 사용자들의 금융정보 유출 광고성 스팸메일의 대량 발송 등 불법 행위를 통해 경제적 이득을 취하려는 형태로 바뀌어가고 있다. 그 중심에 있는 봇넷은 봇이라 불리는 감염된 호스트들의 네트워크로서 최근 발생하는 많은 사이버 공격에 이용되고 있다. 이러한 봇넷은 수많은 변종과 다양한 탐지 회피 기술로 무장하고 전 세계 네트워크 전반에 걸쳐 그 세력을 확장해 가고 있다. 하지만 현존하는 봇넷 대응 솔루션은 대부분 시그네처 기반 탐지 방법을 이용하거나, 극히 제한적인 지역의 봇넷를 탐지하고 있어, 총괄적 봇넷 대응에는 미흡한 것이 현실이다. 본 논문에서는 봇넷을 제어하기 위해 사용되는 IRC(Internet Relay Chat) 통신 세션에서 서버와 연결하는 채널과의 관계 분석을 통하여 봇에 감염된 호스트와 연결된 IRC서버 채널을 탐지하는 방법을 제안한다.

동일 병렬 저항을 이용한 초전도 저항형 한류소자 직렬연결방안 및 전압용량 증대 (Increase of the Voltage Rating of Resistive Type Superconducting Fault Current Limiter Using Equal Shunt Resistors)

  • We have investigated the quench behavior of the series connection of resistive type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) components based on YBCO films. Equal shunt resistors $R_s$ across individual SFCL components successfully produced simultaneous Quenches for 5 components in series, resulting in equal application of voltage to all components. If the two components having the highest and the lowest critical currents ($I_c$) quench safely, others quench altogether The highest shunt resistance is to guarantee the safe quenches of all components, leading to the equal voltage applications within the first half cycle after a fault in the short circuit test. The highest $R_s$ was found to be 28 [$\Omega$] for the components in the given quench environment. Considering the safe quenches and protection coordination, the optimal $R_s$ was suggested to be approximately a half of the highest $R_s$,, allowing wide selection of $R_s$ and $I_c$'s. This design provides a practical wav of connecting small SFCL components in series for high voltage application.
