This paper presents the development process of Power Inductor Full Automation Winding/Welding System for TFT LCD. This process, the process algorithm, high precision welding current control, design of welding head, high speed, high precision feeding mechanism, and user interface process control program technologies are included.

  • The horizontal fillet joint is one of the most important weld joints in the shipbuilding industry. High-speed rotating arc welding, which can increase the leg length, is an effective way to improve the weld productivity and quality for the horizontal fillet welding. Based on the Taguchi method, the effects of welding parameters on bead characteristics - leg length, asymmetry, undercut, overlap - are investigated fur high-speed welding process. As a result, the adequate welding parameters are selected for the required leg length, symmetric bead and no undercut. Besides, considerably consistent leg length is observed for the horizontal fillet welding with gap variation up to 3mm.

  • In this study, MIG welding was performed on extruded 6005A-T6 material, which is used in the base panel of railway vehicles. The material was considered as the experimental base material, and argon shielding gas and ER5356 and ER4043 filler metals were used as the consumable welding materials. Welding coupons were prepared under various welding conditions by using an auto-welding system that various welding conditions applied 2.5Hz and 4.5Hz the pulse frequency of SynchroPuls function of welding machine and 1.0mm and 1.5mm of root face affect the weld penetration of welding joint. The welding current and voltage were also varied for this testing. On the basis of the results obtained, optimum welding conditions are proposed.

  • At present, FSW(friction stir welding) process is being considered as an actual way for production of various industrial products. However FSW process involves high temperature and load on the tool during welding. These are make a difference between FSW machine and general machine tools. From this reason, development of FSW machine needs very careful consideration on stiffness of machine structure, spindle and moving axis including machine control system. In this study authors investigate on the trends of technology development of FSW machine in order to share the information for more extension of FSW technology with related researchers and engineers.

  • Because of the environmental problems, automotive companies are trying to reduce the weight of car body. Therefore, TRIP(TRansformation Induced Plasticity) steels, which have high strength and ductility have been developed. Welding process is a complex process; therefore deciding the optimal welding conditions on the basis of experimental data is an effective method. However, trial-and-error method to decide the optimal conditions requires too many experiments. To overcome these problems, response surface methodology was used. Response surface methodology is a collection of mathematical and statistical techniques that are used in the modeling and analysis of problems in which a response of interest is influenced by several variables and the objective is to optimize this response. This method was applied to the resistance spot welding process of the TRIP steel to optimize the welding parameters.

Effect of Spot Welding Conditions on Spatter and Mechanical Strength Properties (스패터 및 기계적 강도특성에 미치는 점용접 조건의 영향)

  • Spot welding is a process that sheet metals are joined in one or more spot by heating at the faying interface. In this process, the spatter is dispersed from melted area. It has been reported that spatter generation has adverse effects on weld quality. However, no systematic study has been carried out to find out its effect on weld quality in resistance spot welding processes. In this study, specially designed specimen are used to perform experimental investigation of spatter generation and its effect. Major finding of this study show trends in tensile-shear strength for various amounts of spatter generated during spot welding process. Thus, optimum welding conditions are proposed in view of spatter generation and tensile-shear strength. (Received December 11, 2002)

  • This paper describes for applications of neural networks in the field of arc welding. Conventional, automated process generally involves sophisticated sensing and control techniques applied to various processing parameters. Welding parameters affecting quality include the arc voltage, the welding current and the torch travel speed. The relationship between the welding parameters and weld qualify is not a direct one, and in addition, the effect of the weld parameter variables are not independent of the each other - changing the welding current will affect the arc voltage, and so on. Finally, a suitable proposal to improve the construction of the model has also been presented in the paper.

  • Magnetic pulse welding(MPW) is a solid state welding process that is accomplished by a magnetic pulse causing a high-velocity impact on two materials, resulting in a true metallurgical bond. One of the great advantages of MPW is that it is suitable for joining dissimilar metals. No heat affected zones are created because of the negligible heating and the clean surfaces formation that is a consequence of the jet and the metal is not degraded. Also, compared to other general welding processes, this process leads to only a low formation of brittle intermetallic compounds However, although this process has many advantages its application to industrial fields has so far been very low. Therefore, in this study we are presenting the principles, apparatus and application of MPW for application the industrial fields.

  • A method of optimization of process parameters in Arc Welding has been discussed in this paper. The method of investigation is based on the numerical calculation of weld bead by a finite element method and non-linear optimization technique is applied to estimated the optimization process parameters from the numerical calculation. The common package program(ANSYS 4.4A) was used to obtain the process parameters for a thin plate arc welding (TIG, CO$_{2}$). The results on some test are satisfactory and the used method of this paper is a useful guide to the optimum welding condition.

  • A servo gun welding system having a AC servo motor and a PC control system is presented for the improvement of quality control in the spot welding. The spot welding process is composed of the press stage, the weld stage, and the hold stage. The changes of gun press forces according to three stages in the spot welding process are controlled and measured through the load cell in order to know the influence on the welding quality. The relation between the measured force changes according to three stages and welding qualities is also implemented on the multilayer perceptrons, one of supervised learning method of neural network, which are powerful for realization of complex mapping characteristics.
