고지방 식이 비만 모델 마우스의 체중 및 혈장 지질 대사에 미치는 한방보조식품의 영향 (Effects of Natural Dietary Supplement on Body Weight and Lipid Metabolism in High Fat Diet-induced Obese Mice)

  • Objective : Recently, obesity has increased at an alarming rate and is now a worldwide health problem. Natural dietary supplement, $CharmSlim^{(R)}$(C), is mixed pills, which consists of beans, black sesames, kelps, onions, adlay seeds, anchovies, pyogo mushrooms, green tea. Our study was performed to determine the weight-loss effects of natural dietary supplement, based on natural ingredients, in mice fed high-fat diet with an abundance of carbohydrates. Methods : Four groups of male ICR mice were fed different diets during 6 weeks: normal diet(NOR), high-fat (15%, w/w) diet(HF), high-fat supplemented with natural dietary supplement powdered 5%(C5) and 10%(C10) groups. We measured the changes of food intake, body weight and adipose tissues weights. Also we examined levels of lipid profiles in serum. Results : Body weight, liver weight and food efficiency ratio were significantly higher in the HF group than in NOR group. After 6 weeks of treatment, body weight, liver weight and adipose tissues weights (epididymal, perinephric, visceral and BAT) were significantly decreased in the C10 group when compared to the control HF group. The C10 group had markedly lower serum levels of total cholesterol and triglyceride when compared with HF group. Conclusion : These results demonstrate that this dietary supplement can suppress the increased lipid profiles, body weight and fat gains, thus could be considered as an effective adjunct in the treatment of obesity.

과체중인 여성에서 체중 감소 보조제를 이용한 체중 및 내장지방의 감소 효과 (The Effect of a Potential Antiobesity-Supplement on Weight Loss and Visceral Fat Accumulation in Overweight Women)

  • Chitosan, hydroxycitrate and L-carnitine have been known to be antiobesity components. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the combined effects of chitosan, hydroxycitrate and L-carnitine mixture as a potential antiobesity supplement in overweight women. Pre-menopausal healthy females who were overweight (percent ideal body weight > 110) were included in this study. Forty-nine subjects randomly received a placebo (n = 25) or antiobesity-supplement (n = 24), which was a mixture of chitosan, hydroxycitrate, and L-carnitine. Before and after the eight-week experimental period, anthropometric parameters, blood components and computerized tomography were measured. At baseline, the two groups were well matched in terms of age, body mass index and lipid profile. After the eight weeks of potential antiobesity supplementation, the subjects' body fat percent had decreased significantly (p < 0.001) by 5.6% (39.1 $\pm$ 1 vs 36.9 $\pm$ 1%) while lean body mass increased (p < 0.01). Vsceral fat area at the L4 vertebra decreased significantly (p < 0.01) by 8.6% in the supplemented group and the total fat area at the L4 vertebra showed a tendency to decrease (p = 0.051) by 2.4%. Also, in the group given the antiobesity-supplement rather than the placebo, the fasting triglyceride level decreased significantly (p < 0.05) by 10.0%. In addition, serum total cholesterol levels in the antiobesity-supplement group showed a tendency to decrease (p=0.159) by 2.7% (194 $\pm$ 6 vs 189 $\pm$ 6 mg/dl). No side effects were found in either group during the intervention. In conclusion, the present study demonstrated that taking a mixture of chitosan, hydroxycitrate, and L-carnitine as a potential antiobesity supplement for eight weeks produced advantageous changes in the weight and visceral fat accumulation of overweight women without any side effects.   • 이에 본 연구에서는 한국인에 적합한 비만 개선책을 찾고자 지방흡수억제 기능과 과잉의 탄수화물 흡수 억제 기전이 함께 작용하는 방법으로서 강낭콩(white kidney bean, Phaseolus vulgaris)에서 $\alpha$-amylases 활성을 저해하는 탄수화물 흡수 억제하는 추출물과 지방산과 콜레스테롤 합성에 관여하는 효소의 저해제인 HCA(hydroxycitric acid)를 함유하여 지방 합성을 저해, 식욕 억제 효과와 지방의 분해 촉진을 유도하는 가르시니아 캄보지아(Garcinia cambogia), 그리고 배변 활동을 원활하게 하도록 도움을 주는 수용성 식이 섬유(microstalline cellulose) 등을 배합하여 비만 개선용 다이어트 식이 조성물을 제조한 후 임상 실험을 수행한 결과 체중과 체지방 지수에서 유의한 감소효과를 얻을 수 있었다. 이들 결과를 종합하면, 강낭콩 추출물인 파제올라민과 가르시니아 캄보지아 추출물의 지방 합성 저해 효과, 그리고 수용성 식이 섬유 등을 첨가하여 제조한 비만 개선용 다이어트 식이 조성물이 임상실험에서 체중 증가를 효과적으로 억제할 수 있음을 관찰할 수 있었으며, 이는 현대 성인 질병 가운데 하나인 비만을 효과적으로 예방, 치료할 수 있는 다이어트 식이로 유용할 것으로 사료된다.

Effects of Carbohydrase Supplement on Lactation Performance of Primiparous Sows Fed Corn-Soybean Meal Based Lactation Diet

  • The experiment was conducted to test the hypothesis that supplementing diets of lactating first parity sows with a mixture of carbohydrases (CS) improves lactation performance and second parity reproductive performance. The CS used in this study contained 7 units/g of $\alpha$-1,6-galactosidase, 22 units/g of $\beta$-1,4-mannanase, $\beta$-1,4-mannosidase and trace amounts of other enzymes. Twenty primiparous sows (Newsham Hybrid) were allotted to either the control group (no CS supplement) or the CS group (0.1% CS supplement) and fed the experimental diets during 21 d lactation period. Sows and nursing pigs were weighed at birth and weekly until weaning. Days of weaning-to-estrus were recorded. Sows had free access to feed and water. Feed intake of sows was measured daily. During the second parity gestation and lactation, all the sows were fed the same gestation and lactation diets and their reproductive performance was measured. During the second parity, there were 14 sows (7 sows per group) remained productive. For the first lactation, maternal body weight loss of the CS group was smaller (p<0.05) than that of the control group. There was no difference in litter weight gain between two groups. Voluntary feed intake of sows did not differ between the two groups. Days of weaning-to-estrus of the CS group were smaller (p<0.05) than those of the control group. In the second parity, there was no difference in the reproductive performance between the two groups. In conclusion, supplementing CS in the diet of lactating sows during the first parity decreased body weight loss and days of weaning-to-estrus of sows. However, these effects of the CS supplementation in the first parity were not successfully carried over to the second parity.

  • 본 연구는 고등학교 남자태권도 선수 21명을 대상으로 옥타코사놀 섭취에 따른 단기간 체중감량 시 혈중 피로물질면역글로불린에 미치는 영향을 구명하기 위해 6일간 동일한 합숙훈련을 하였으며 옥타코사놀 섭취감량군에 비섭취 감량군은 점차적으로 칼로리를 줄이는 식사제한을 통해 자기체중의 5% 이상 감량하였다. 옥타코사놀은 오전 ${\cdot}$ 오후로 나누어 식후 30분에 20 mg씩 섭취시켰으며 비섭취 감량군과 통제군은 같은 방법으로 위약을 섭취시켜 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 젖산과 암모니아는 옥타코사놀 섭취감량군이 유의하게 감소하였으며 집단 간 비교에서는 비섭취 감량군과 통제군보다 유의하게 감소하였다. 2. 젖산탈수소효소는 비섭취 감량군과 통제군이 감량 후 유의하게 증가하였다. 3. 면역글로불린 IgA, IgG는 모두 집단에서 증가한 것으로 나타났다.

  • Objectives Excess weight and obesity are a crucial public health problem worldwide and are considered as the main cause of many chronic diseases. The present study evaluated the effects of Aronia melanocarpa extract (AMEX) supplementation on body compositions in overweight or obese people. Methods This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial was carried out on 66 healthy overweight or obese peoples. The eligible subjects were divided into AMEX and placebo supplement treatment for 12 weeks. Anthropometrics, body composition (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry), and blood analysis were performed preand post intervention. Results We observed significant reductions in the body weight and body mass index in both groups; however, the decrease was higher in the AMEX group. Body fat mass and percent body fat showed a tendency to decreases after AMEX supplementation. No clinically significant changes were observed for any safety parameter. Conclusions In conclusion, the data of this trial indicate that AMEX were not effective in reducing body compositions, but as a safe supplement, it may help weight loss in overweight or obese people.

Effect of Functional Beverage on Weight Control and Body Fat Mass in Overweight Women

  • Carnitine, hydroxycitric acid, and soy peptide have been known to be anti-obesity agents. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the combined effects of carnitine, hydroxycitric acid, and soy peptide mixture as a potential anti-obesity supplement in overweight women. Overweight premenopausal women (n=33; PIBW>110; 20 to 39 years) were randomized into two groups: the placebo group and the functional beverage group (the test group). Functional beverage was composed of 2000 mg soy peptide, 20 mg L-carnitine and 300 mg garcinia(40% hydroxycitric acid). Body weight and 3 day food dimes, biochemical measurements and computerized tomography were measured at baseline and 8-week. After 8-week consumption of functional beverage with usual diet and exercise, body weight fell an average of 1.4 kg (2.1%). Visceral fat area reduced an average of 7.8% at L1($69.6{\pm}8.7\;vs\;64.2{\pm}7.5\;\textrm{cm}^2$) and 5.1% ($60.7{\pm}4.9\;vs\;57.6{\pm}4.8\;\textrm{cm}^2$, p<0.05) at L4level after weight loss in the test group. Calf fat area in the test group showed about 10% reduction ($31.0{\pm}2.7\;vs=\;27.7{\pm}1.7\;\textrm{cm}^2$, p<0.05) after weight loss. These reductions in fat areas were not shown in the placebo group. There were tendencies of increase in serum levels of $\beta-hydroxybutyrate$, acetoacetate, and total ketones in the test group. There were 7% and 17% insignificant increase in fasting free fatty acid (FFA) and response area of FFA during oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT), respectively, in this group. ill addition, little weight loss in the test group showed 8% but not significant reduction in insulin response area during OGTT. In conclusion, this study shows that taking a mixture of carnitine, hydroxycitric acid, and soy peptide as a potential anti-obesity supplement for 8-week produced advantageous changes in the weight and visceral fat accumulation of overweight women.

Dietary inclusion of glucose oxidase supplementation to corn-wheat-based diet enhance growth performance, nutrient digestibility, blood profile of lactating sows

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of dietary glucose oxidase (GOx) supplementation on the reproductive performance, litter performance, total tract digestibility, and blood profile of lactating sows fed corn- wheat-based diet. A total of twenty multiparous sows (Landrace × Yorkshire) were allocated into one of four treatments with five replicates per treatment. The dietary treatments were as follows: CON (Basal diet), GO1 (basal diet + 200 U GOx/kg), GO2 (basal diet + 300 U GOx/kg), GO3 (basal diet + 400 U Gox/kg). Dietary GOx supplementation did not affect lactating sow's reproduction performance as well as body weight, backfat thickness, and body condition score during pre and post farrowing, and at weaning (p > 0.05). However, after farrowing to weaning period lactating sow's fed GOx supplement has linearly (p = 0.0196) decreased the bodyweight loss. While, there were no effects (p > 0.05) observed on sows backfat thickness loss, average daily feed intake, and estrus interval among treatment groups. Dietary supplementation of GOx has linearly improved the body weight gain (p = 0.049) and average daily gain (p = 0.040) of suckling piglets. The total tract digestibility of dry matter and nitrogen was linearly increased with the graded level of GOx supplement. Also, a linear effect was observed on the glucose and superoxide dismutase of blood profile with the dietary inclusion of GOx. In summary, our finding indicates that the dietary inclusion of GOx supplement with corn- wheat-based diet had a beneficial effect on the nutrient digestibility and blood profile of lactating sows and improved the growth performance of suckling piglets.

두경부암 환자에서 방사선치료 중 고농축 고단백 균형 영양식의 영양보충효과 (The Effect of Oral High Protein Liquid on Nutritional Support in Patients Undergoing Radiotherapy for Head and Neck Cancer)

  • Objectives:Weight loss and malnutrition in patients undergoing radiotherapy for head and neck cancer are usual and preventable. The effect of nutritional support with oral high protein liquid was evaluated. Material and Methods:From Feb. to Dec. 2007, twenty patients received nutritional supplement with oral high protein liquid during radiotherapy for head and neck cancer and the nutritional status was evaluated. Weight loss was compared with control group of similar clinical characteristics. Results:Nutritional parameters such as weight, arm circumference, hemoglobin, hematocrit, total protein, albumin, transferring and the number of lymphocyte were relatively well maintained in patients with nutritional support with oral high protein liquid. In addition weight loss was minimal and significantly lower compared with control group. Conclusion:Nutritional support with oral high protein liquid was effective on maintaining nutritional status for the patients with head and neck cancer during radiotherapy.

골다공증 모델 흰쥐에서 칼슘과 철 보충제의 과다섭취가 골격손실과 신석회침착 및 신장기능에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Excess Calcium and Iron Supplement on Bone Loss, Nephrocalcinosis and Renal Function in Osteoporotic Model Rats)

  • This study examined the effects of excess intake of calcium (Ca) and iron (Fe) supplement on bone loss, nephrocalcinosis and renal function in osteoporotic model rats. Seven-week-old female rats were first fed a Ca-deficient diet for four weeks after ovariectomy operation, and then one of nine experimental diets for additional eight weeks, containing three levels of Ca, normal (0.5%) or high (1.5%) or excess (2.5%) and three levels of Fe, normal (35ppm) or high (210ppm) or excess (350ppm). The osteoporotic model rats showed a remarkable increase in body weight, serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and decrease in breaking force, Ca, P, Mg contents of femur. Serum Ca concentration was not significantly affected by dietary Ca and Fe levles. Liver Ca content increased in rats fed a high-and excess-Ca diet. Kidney Ca content and microscopic Ca deposition remarkably increased in osteoporotic model rats compared to control group, and showed a tendency to decrease in rats fed a excess-Ca diet. Breaking force of femur increased with increasing dietary Ca levels, but Ca, P contents of femur and serum ALP were not significantly affected by dietary Ca and Fe levels. Serum total protein decreased in rats fed a excess-Ca diet, BUN increased in rats fed a excess-Ca diet, while serum uric acid and creatinine were not significantly affected by dietary Ca levels. Urinary creatinine, GFR increased in rats fed a high-and excess-Ca, diet, and GFR was highest in rats fed a excess-Ca/excess-Fe diet. These results suggest that excess intake of Ca may increase breaking force of femur, but not increase mineral contents of femur, and decrease kidney function. Furthermore, excess intake of Fe and Ca concurrently may aggravate kidney function leading to potential health problems in ovariectomized osteoporotic model rats.
