A submerged breakwater is a coastal structure built under water with excellent landscape. The depth of the crest of the breakwater should be maintained at more than a certain level in order for the submerged breakwater to control waves properly. This means that the effect of blocking waves deceases sharply at high tide in coastal areas with large tidal differences. In this study, we proposed a Tide-Adapting Submerged Breakwater (TA-SB) to overcome this problem, and then we conducted hydraulic model experiments to evaluate the performance of the TA-SB for controlling waves. The experimental results showed that the tapered wings attached to the crest of the TA-SB helped induce forced breaking waves. In particular, they were very effective in blocking waves and attenuating wave energy at high tide. In addition, the wave control performance of the proposed TA-SB was far superior to the Tide-Adapting Low-Crested Structure (TA-LCS) of the previous study.
For the efficient management of the diagnostic x-ray equipment, a nation-wide inspection of hospitals was performed by an inspection institute in Taejon in the first half of 1997. Among those hospitals inspected, 28 equipments(machines) which were over 500 mA were randomly selected according to their characteristics : 7 condenser type x-ray equipments, 7 three control phase of full wave rectification of type remote control x-ray equipments, 7 single phase of full wave rectification type for general radiography equipments, and 7 single phase of full wave rectification type of R/F equipments. We obtained the following results by conducting the experiment based on the efficiency of the equipments mentioned above. 1) When the equipments are analyzed, 2 out of 7 single phase of full wave rectification type of general radiography equipments(28.6%), 3 out of 7 single phase of full wave rectification type of R/F equipments(42.9%), 5 out of 7 three phase of full wave rectification type remote of control x-ray equipments(71.4%), and 4 out of 7 condenser type of x-ray equipments(57.1%) showed suitability. It proves the superiority of the three phase of full wave rectification type of remote control x-ray equipments. 2) From the overall analysis, only about 50% of the equipments(suitability of 14 out of 28) maintain the efficient management. Therefore, maintenance management of equipments is more necessary. If the efficiency of the x-ray equipment is uniformly maintained and managed to prevent the breakdown(trouble) beforehand especially through the continuous inspection of tube voltage, tube current, exposure time, and collimator, the financial loss and exposure dose to the patient, as well as the workers engaged in radiation, can be reduced for better medical service.
In patients with Tourette's syndrome, a tic occurs when Mu wave synchronization is broken. Conversely, when Mu wave synchronization is achieved, a tick does not occur. When the tic is suppressed, the cognitive control response process is changed, and if the neurofeedback training that adjusts the EEG frequency power is performed with the changed, the patient will be treated autonomously without artificially suppressing the tic. The results of the research test suggest that if the tic patient does not artificially synchronize mu waves in the premotor cortex (Frontal Cortical 3 site), and if EEG control is performed autonomously like neurofeedback training, as a result, tics do not occur. Cognitive control response processes are altered when a subject is inhibited from tics. By training the altered cognitive control with neurofeedback that modulates EEG frequency power, the patient can be treated autonomously without artificially suppressing the tic.Mu-wave synchronizationcan now be added to existing neurofeedback treatment protocols such as SMR reinforcement, theta-beta-wave imbalance correction, and alpha-wave reinforcement. This study will be used in follow-up studies and clinical trials to more scientifically verify the neurofeedback treatment protocol, a treatment for patients with Tourette's syndrome.
Wave reflection control functions of mound for the foundation of composite and perforated break-waters were investigated through the theoretical considerations. The theory developed is based on a simple summation of components of reflected waves. The applicability of the theory is assured by the comparative studies of the theoretical calculation and experimental data on the sea surface elevation in front of a breakwater. It is found that the reflection is mainly controlled by depth and width of the mound. In the design of composite type perforated breakwaters, the width of perforated part of the upright section can be decreased to less than half of the conventional design width for the same reflection by using the reflection control function of mound part and the reflection can be reduced until less than $30\%$ of that in the composite breakwaters. Using the results, a design method of mounds is proposed, by which the reduction of wave reflection is assured under the given wave conditions.

In the bilateral tele-operation system, time delay may be a critical problem. Even if system modeling error or time delay occurs, when applied to wave transformation system, the system's stability can be achieved. Using the characteristic b which is an important parameter of wave transformation, the system can display robust performance for time delay. However, since assuming and that the time delay was fixed developing a theory, a stability cannot be guaranteed about the time-varying delay. Therefore, In the paper, Therefore, in this paper, we studied for the method that controls this by applying the fuzzy algorithm which surveyed the timevarying delay characteristics and can adjust the b according to it adaptively.

A hybrid stabilization approach involving both Passivity Observer/passivity Controller and wave variables is addressed to stabilize the teleoperation system with time delay. To guarantee the stability of master or slave side, Passivity Observer and Passivity Controller are applied. But Passivity Observer and Passivity Controller technique cannot deal with communication delay and even small communication delay cause the system to be unstable. To cope with this problem, wave variables are additionally employed to have robustness to arbitrary delays. To show the validity of our proposed approach, several computer simulation results are illustrated.

When a high-speed railway train enters a tunnel, a compression wave is generated ahead of the train and propagates along the tunnel, compressing and accelerating the rest air in front of the wave. At the exit of the tunnel, an impulsive wave is emitted outward toward the surrounding, which causes a positive impulsive noise like a kind of sonic boom produced by a supersonic aircraft. With the advent of high-speed train, such an impulsive noise can be large enough to cause the noise problem, unless some attempts are made to alleviate its pressure levels. For the purpose of the impulsive noise reduction, the present study investigated the effect of a vertical bleed duct on the compression wave propagating into a model tunnel. Numerical results were obtained using a Piecewise Linear Method and testified by experiment of shock tube with an open end. The results showed that the vertical bleed duct reduces the maximum pressure gradient of compression wave front by about 30 percent, compared with the straight tunnel without the bleed duct. As the width of the vertical bleed duct becomes larger, reduction of the impulsive noise is expected to be greater. However the impulsive noise is independent of the height of the vertical bleed duct.

The quality of track-bed fills of railways has been controlled by field measurements of density (${\gamma}_d$) and the results of plate-load tests. The control measures are compatible with the design procedures whose design parameter is $k_{30}$ for both ordinary-speed railways and high-speed railways. However, one of fatal flaws of the design procedures is that there are no simple laboratory measurement procedures for the design parameters ($k_{30}$ or, $E_{v2}$ and $E_{v2}/E_{v1}$) in design stage. A new quality control procedure, in parallel with the advent of the new design procedure, is being proposed. This procedure is based upon P-wave velocity involving consistently the evaluation of design parameters in design stage and the field measurements during construction. The key concept of the procedure is that the target value for field compaction control is the P-wave velocity determined at OMC using modified compaction test, and direct-arrival method is used for the field measurements during construction. The procedure was verified at a test site and the p-wave velocity turned out to be an excellent control measure. The specifications for the control also include field compaction water content of $OMC{\pm}2%$ as well as the p-wave velocity.

In the preliminary investigation (Park et al., 2009), the use of compressional wave velocity and its measurement techniques were proposed as a new quality control measure for trackbed fills. The methodology follows exactly the same procedure as the density control, except the density being replaced by the compressional wave velocity involving consistently with resilient modulus of design stage. The specifications for the control also include field compaction water content of optimum moisture content ${\pm}2%$ as well as the compressional wave velocity. In this sequel paper, crosshole and resonant column tests were performed as well direct-arrival method and laboratory compressional wave measurements to verify the practical applicability of a methodology far the new quality control procedure based upon compressional wave velocity. The stress-modified crosshole results reasonably well agree with the direct-arrival values, and the resonant column test results also agree well with the field crosshole results. The compressional wave velocity turned out to be an excellent control measure for trackbed fills both in the theoretical and practical point of view.

This paper describes vibration control of a suspended system using wave absorption method. A moving multiple-pendulum system and a moving wire-and-load system are treated. The wire-and-load system is extended to a model crane system that has a motor system to roll up and down the suspended mass like a real crane. The same program with different parameter values controls these three systems. Both numerical simulation and experiment have been conducted, and the present control method has shown to be quite effective.
