  • In this study, the effects of the number of coat and immersion period on strength properties, waterproofness and chemical resistance of painted and immersed cement mortars using two admixture were examined. Test results showed that the flexural and the compressive strengths of the coated and immersed cement mortars increase with increasing number of coat and immersion period. The water absorption of the coated and immersed cement mortars tended to decrease with increasing number of coated and immersion period. In the case of the change of weight and the immersion period for the solutions, a decreasing tendency was shown as the immersion period increases regardless of solution, with a little variation.

  • Re water resistance of shell fabrics intended for we in outdoor apparel was measured using three different standard test methods, ASTM D 751, hydrostatic resistance, procedure A(Mullen test -- with and without a fabric support) and Procedure B (Hydrostatic head test). A database of information on their water resistance performance was created. The data collected with different methods were correlated and the advantages and disadvantages of each method were compared. The Mullen test with a support appears to give higher and more favorable water resistance values on shell fabrics preventing fabric rupture during the test. The hydrostatic head test gave lower hydrostatic pressure values than those measured on the two Mullen tests. The Mullen test is recommended for testing the water resistance of fabrics that high a relatively high water resistance because the Mullen tester applies a wide range of pressure. The hydrostatic head test is recommended for testing the fabrics that have relatively low water resistance. The area of the fabric sample that is in contact with the water is smaller in the Mullen test, so higher pressure levels can be reached and more samples should probably be tested to get a representative value for each fabric types. Furthermore, the hydrostatic head test was deemed more repeatable than the Mullen tests in his study.

  • Asphalt emulsion is manufactured by the emulsification of asphalt, and is considered as an energy-saving, ecologically safe material because it does not need any heating processes with gas emission and fire hazard in its use. This study is concerned with evaluating the feasibility of the use of an asphalt emulsion as a poly-meric admixture. Asphalt-modified mortars using an experimentally manufactured asphalt emulsion were prepared with various polymer-cement ratios, and tested far the mechanical properties such as strengths and adhesion and the properties related to durability such as water absorption, permeation, carbonation and chloride ion penetration. As a result, the waterproofness, carbonation resistance and chloride ion penetration resistance of the asphalt-modified mortars were markedly improved with an increase in the polymer-cement ratio, but their compressive strength and adhesion to mortar substrates were reduced with increasing polymer-cement ratio. Therefore, it is recommended to control their polymer-cement ratio to be $10\%$ or lower in their practical applications. Further study to improve their compressive strength and adhesion is needed.

  • In this study, hydrophilic polyurethane (PU) was synthesized by one shot process to get good non-swelling effect and to keep high breathability using reactive silicone oil of mono terminal and bi-terminal types. We also blended non reactive silicone oil with pure hydrophilic PU to compare non-swelling effect and breathability with hydrophilic PU synthesized by the two types of reactive silicone oils. The hydrophilic films were analyzed by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-ray photo electron (XPS) spectroscopy, energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS), breathability, waterproofness, tensile strength, contact angle and swelling effect. The results showed that the film made by hydrophilic PU which was synthesized with mono terminal type silicone oil provided good non-swelling effect and acceptable moisture permeability due to the modified surface properties.

  • This paper presents the kinematic and dynamic analysis of the robot arm for inspection and rescue operations. The inspection robot arm has Pitch-Pitch-Pitch-Yaw motion for an optimal and stable view of the camera installed at the end of the manipulator. The rescue operation robot arm has Yaw-Pitch-Pitch-Roll motion to handle heavy tools. Additionally, both robot arms are waterproof, as they use the triple-layer O-ring. Furthermore, the dynamic equation including the damping force due to the mechanical seal for waterproofness was derived by using the Newton-Euler method. A control system using the ARM processor was developed and introduced in this paper, and its performance was verified through experiments.

  • Large area members such as foundation concrete of underground structures in power plants have an effect on structural stability and durability of the structure due to danger of crack occurrence and shrinkage crack that occur owing to the difference of temperature by heat of hydration between inside and outside of the members at initial age. And a construction for waterproofness is performed additionally to protect marine structures from osmosis of seawater because the structures adjoin below the surface of sea. So, if a rise of the heat of hydration, crack, and corrosion of bars are controled effectively using a composite such as fluosilicate salt in concrete production process of a initial construction, expenses are cut down and construction hours are reduced by securing durability through improvement of watertightness. The property tests of adiabatic temperature by hydration are carried out at initial age about standard concrete and test concrete using a fluosilicate salt composite to evaluate an effect on improvement of watertightness for concrete structures in this study. And the experiments such as a permeability test of hardened concrete, a water absorption test, a compression strength test and a elongation test are carried out and the results from these are described.
