Analysis of Applicability by Filter Technique for Water Level Correction of Agricultural Canal (농업용 수로부의 수위 보정을 위한 필터기법별 적용성 분석)

  • Due to the recent integrated water management policy, it is important to identify a reliable supply amount for establishing an agricultural water supply plan. In order to identify the amount of agricultural water supply, it is essential to calculate the discharge by measuring the water level and flow velocity of reservoirs and canal agricultural water, and quality control to ensure reliability must be preceded. Unlike agricultural reservoirs, canal agricultural water are more sensitive to the surrounding environment and reservoir irrigation methods (continuous, intermittent irrigation, etc.), making it difficult to estimate general water level patterns and at the same time a lot of erroneous data. The Korea Rural Community Corporation is applying a filter technique as a quality control method capable of processing large quantities and real-time processing of canal agricultural water level data, and applicability evaluation is needed. In this study, the types of errors generated by the automatic water level measurement system were first determined. In addition, by using the manual quality control data, a technique with high applicability is derived by comparing and analyzing data calibrated with Gaussian, Savitzky-Golay, Hampel, and Median filter techniques, RMSE, and NSE, and the optimal parameters of the technique range was derived. As a result, the applicability of the Median filter was evaluated the highest, and the optimal parameters were derived in the range of 120min to 240min. Through the results of this study, it is judged that it can be used for quantitative evaluation to establish an agricultural water supply plan.

A Reality Analysis on the Elementary School Landscape for Environmental Education (초등학교 환경교육을 위한 학교조경 실태분석 -서울시 사례연구-)

  • This study aims to suggest the directions of the elementary school landscaping in terms of environmental education. The 96-case of school landscaping projects had been implemented for 2001 - 2002 in Seoul was selected, and the trends and contents of the projects for improving the school landscape was reviewed. Also, specially the 9-case among them was selected and analyzed whether or not the projects were effective for the environmental educational places. The paper showed that it was not fully matched with the environmental education programs in the textbooks that need the actual spaces and facilities including woods, outdoor class, kitchen garden, breeding farm and ecology pond etc. Also, it appeared that the teachers and students did not satisfied with the projects for improving the school landscape. Finally, this paper suggested that the species diversity of plants and animal, water and forest environment should be emphasized on the school landscaping.

The Effects of the Biodiversity Increase after Creation of the Artificial Wetland -The Case of Ecological Pond at Seoul Technical High School- (인공습지 조성후 생물다양성 증진 효과에 관한 연구 -서울공고 생태연못을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the creation techniques of artificial wetland, one of biotopes developed to promote biodiversity in urban areas, and to look for improvement steps. Specifically, artificial wetland creation techniques were categorized into living environment and living creature classification. Being living conditions for creations, habitat environment was reviewed with a focus on water and soil environments. Living creatures were classified into plants, insects, fish, and birds. The evaluation of creation techniques was done in post-construction evaluation while considering the creation of habitats for living creatures. Intervention by users, changes in living environment and living species, and relevance of creation techniques were reviewed. Key results of this study are as follows. (1) Water environment for the living environment of creatures provides a suitable environment conditions for the living of creatures through a process easing the use of piped water. Various water depths and embankment appear to have a positive impact on the living of aquatic life. In particular, embankment covered in soil naturally played an important role as a place for the activities of aquatic insects and young fish as well as the growth of aquatic plants. (2) Various aquatic and ground plants to promote insect-diversity, shallow water, and old-tree logs had contributed greatly in increasing the types and number of insects. Aquatic insects. Aquatic insects were seen much particularly in areas where aquatic plants are rich but water is shallow than any other areas. (3) A space piled with stone to provide habitats for fish was not much used. However, it was observed that fish used embankment built with natural stones and embankment using logs in areas where water is deep. In addition, it was confirmed that 1,500 fish that had been released propagated using various depths and places for birth. (4) It was analyzed that techniques (creation of island, log setting, and creation of man-made bird nests) to provide habitats and to attract birds are not serving their roles. In such a case, it is believed that species had not increased due to the smallness as well as isolated features of the area. Based on theoretical review, they are judged to be areas that are likely to be used when a greater variety of birds is introduced. It is judged that attracting and keeping more birds at the site, such spaces need to be linked systematically in the future in terms of building eco-network while ensuring an adequate living areas. (5) In the study areas, users intervened greatly. As a result, a blockage was created preventing the normal growth of plants and non-indigenous plants were introduced. In order to limit the intervention by users, setting enough buffer zones, and environment education programs were urgently required. D/H=1>Hyangkyo> houses on the river>temples>lecture halls. A Survey of Pre-service Elementary Teachers' Perceptions, Attitudes and Practical Intention toward Sustainable Development (초등 예비교사들의 지속가능 발전에 대한 인식, 태도 및 실천 의지에 대한 조사 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the pre-service elementary teachers' perceptions and attitudes toward sustainable development. Subjects were 152 university students, who were surveyed by questionnaire. The instrument consisted of totally 41 items which were constructed by 3 components; 'the perception of concept of sustainable development', 'the attitude toward the relationship between economy and environment' and 'the practical intention of personal change for sustainable lifestyle'. The key findings suggest that most students associate strongly the concepts of sustainable development with their environmental as against economic and social aspect. Most of them incline toward eco-centrism but they had complex attitudes concerning the relationship between economy and environment. They have intention to act for sustainable lifestyle such as purchasing habits, recycling, energy water saving, forms of transportation, nature conservation and education. However, they prefer to act passively than actively in a certain aspect of sustainable lifestyle. Understanding of pre-service elementary teachers' perceptions of and attitudes toward sustainable development will be helpful to work out teaching and learning strategies in environmental education.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the environmental awareness and attitude of elementary school teachers. For this study, 100 elementary school teachers from H graduate school of education were sampled. The results of this study were summarized as follows. First, the biggest concern of environmental problems were water-pollution and garbage problems by the lack of understanding about the environment and injudicious development. Second, most teachers recognized the need for environmental education and they answered that they were doing best to teach students with the main purpose of helping them develop values of environmental preservation. Third, most environmental education was carried out during class using current events and the emphasis on garbage separation and recycling. They also showed the lack of teaching materials and field trips for environmental education. Fourth, it appeared to come from media-oriented environmental education. Most teachers mainly used newspapers and visual materials. 1'hey were obtaining knowledge and information related to environmental education through the media. Since in-service teachers' conceptions could directly effect present education, it is necessary to establish a more systematic educational system for environmental education, for in-service elementary school teachers.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the influences of water environmental program using PBL on pro-environmental behavior for 4th graders in elementary school. The results of this study are as follows. First, the experimental group is more effective in promoting the pro-environmental attitude compared with the control group. Second, the experimental group is more effective in promoting the pro-environmental behavior compared with the control group. Third, the experimental group is not more effective in promoting the pro-environmental knowledge compared with the control group. Fourth, students are concerned and interested in the environment and environmental problems of the daily-life. And, they presented positive attitude and active participation toward environmental preservation. So, the process of PBL using water environmental program showed that it promotes active learning participation and various action. In conclusion, the environmental education program through PBL program has a positive effect on pro-environmental attitudes and behavior of elementary school students. It is demanded that more intensive research on this study should be done, linking with teaching and learning method, as a follow-up activity.

  • Generally, material for radiator of automobile is composed of Al-alloy, but part of radiator material is still composed of Cu. Specially, Al-alloy replaces Cu and Cu-alloy as cooling and heating system material for light weight. Therefore, galvanic electronic cell is formed between Al-alloy and Cu for automobile radiator material, and Al-alloy corrosion is accelerated. So, in this study, galvanic corrosion test of Al-alloy coupling with Cu was carried out in distilled water, tap water, polluted environment and non-freezing solution. And thus corrosion potential and galvanic currrent density of Al-alloy coupling with Cu is investigated.

Measurement of 1,4-dioxane in surface water by headspace GC-MS (GC-MS에 의한 지표수에서 1,4-Dioxane의 측정)

  • 1,4-Dioxane was classified as a Group 2B carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. The compound was measured in surface water with a headspace gas chromatographic mass spectrometric detection. A 5 mL water sample was placed in a 10 mL headspace vial and saturated with NaCl, and the solution was spiked with 1,4-dioxane-d8 as an internal standard and sealed with a cap. Water samples were collected from twenty-two basins of Gum-River on June and September 2012, respectively. As a result, 1,4-dioxane was detected in the concentration range of $0.49-43.0{\mu}g/L$ (mean $2.0{\mu}g/L$) in the frequency of about 30% in surface water samples.

Determination of perchlorate in the Gum-River surface water by LC-ESI-MS/MS (금강 지표수에서 LC-ESI-MS/MS에 의한 염소산이온의 극미량 분석)

  • A liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry method (LC-ESI-MS/MS) was used for determining perchlorate in the Gum-River surface water. Sample was directly injected into LC-ESI-MS/MS after the filtrations using PTFE filter paper. The coefficient of variation of perchlorate was less than 3% and the limit of quantification was 0.17 ${\mu}g/L$. Water samples were collected from thirty-five basins of Gum-River on February, April and June 2012, respectively. As a result, perchlorate was detected in the concentration range of 0.23-3.73 ${\mu}g/L$ (mean 0.20 ${\mu}g/L$) in the frequency of 15% in general surface water and in the concentration range of 0.36-25.10 ${\mu}g/L$ (mean 1.69 ${\mu}g/L$) in the frequency of 36% in surface water samples near industry area.

Simultaneous determination of ultra-trace phenols, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and pesticides in surface water by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (지표수에서 GC-MS에 의한 극미량 페놀류, 다환방향족탄화수소류와 농약류의 동시 분석법)

  • A gas chromatography-mass spectrometric (GC-MS) method was developed for determining 17 hazard compounds containing phenols, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and pesticides in surface water. A 1.0 L surface water sample was placed in a separatory funnel and saturated with NaCl, and the solution was extracted with 40 mL of methylene chloride. Under the established condition, the lowest quantification limit was 1.0-10 ng/L and the relative standard deviations were less than 22%. The method was used to analyze 70 surface water samples collected from 35 regions in Gum-River. The samples revealed the compounds concentrations in the range of 1.1-26,604 ng/L. Maximum concentrations of compounds detected were not exceeded guidelines established in other countries. The developed method may be valuable for monitoring hazards in water.
