  • In this study, condensation heat transfer characteristics were conducted with special heat transfer tubes of SH-C type. Experiments were carried out the saturated vapor temperature of 334K and the wall subcooling of 1.5-4.5K. The refrigerant was R-113 and the enhanced tubes used in the present study were SH-CDR, SH-CYR and SH-CHR. The experimental results showed that the condensation heat transfer coefficients of SH-C type tubes were about 23-66% higher than those of a low integral-fin tube. It was visualized that the condensed liquid on the outer surface of SH-C type tubes flowed continuously down unlike a low integral-fin tube and a plain tube, due to a 3-D extending fin on the outer surface of SH-C type tubes. As a result, the thermal resistance of the condensed liquid decreased and the heat transfer coefficient increased. Also, the enhancement ratio of SH-CDR tube was the highest, and it was about 9-11 times as compared to that of a plain tube.

  • In this study, three condensation models of the CUPID code, i.e., the resolved boundary layer approach (RBLA), heat and mass transfer analogy (HMTA) model, and an empirical correlation, were tested and validated against the COPAIN and CAU tests. An improvement on HMTA model was also made to use well-known heat transfer correlations and to take geometrical effect into consideration. The RBLA was a best option for simulating the COPAIN test, having mean relative error (MRE) about 0.072, followed by the modified HMTA model (MRE about 0.18). On the other hand, benchmark against CAU test (under natural convection and occurred on a slender tube) indicated that the modified HMTA model had better accuracy (MRE about 0.149) than the RBLA (MRE about 0.314). The HMTA model with wall function and the empirical correlation underestimated significantly, having MRE about 0.787 and 0.55 respectively. When using the HMTA model, consideration of geometrical effect such as tube curvature was essential; ignoring such effect leads to significant underestimation. The HMTA and the empirical correlation required significantly less computational resources than the RBLA model. Considering that the HMTA model was reasonable accurate, it may be preferable for large-scale simulations of containment.

  • Experimental study on characteristics of direct contact condensation of steam discharged into a sub-cooled water pool has been performed using five different sizes of horizontal nozzle over a wide range of steam mass fluxes and pool temperatures. Steam condensation phenomena have been observed visually and by taking pictures of steam jets using a high speed video camera. Two different steam jet shapes such as ellipsoidal shape and conical shape were typically observed for a stable steam jet, depending on the steam mass flux and pool temperature. The steam jet expansion ratio and the steam jet length as well as the condensation heat transfer coefficients were determined. The effect of steam mass flux, pool temperature, and nozzle diameter on these parameters were also discussed. Empirical correlations for the steam jet lengths and the condensation heat transfer coefficients as a function of steam mass flux and condensation driving potential were established. The axial and radial temperature distributions in steam jet and in surrounding water were measured. The effect of steam mass flux, pool temperature, and nozzle diameter were also discussed. The condensation regime map, which consists of six regimes such as chugging, transient chugging, condensation oscillation, stable condensation, bubble condensation oscillation, and intermittent oscillation condensation, were established. In addition, the dynamic pressures at the pool wall were measured. The close relation of dynamic pressure and steam condensation mode, which is also dependent on steam mass flux and pool temperature, was found.

  • Because of energy crisis at all around the world, there is many method and system which for improving energy efficiency has appeared in construction industry. And then, 20% of entire building energy loss is emissed to exterior of buildings, that is important to building's entire energy efficiency. So, many research has been conducted for imporve exterior energy efficiency and generally it called insulation of wall. Method for wall insulation can be classified interior system and exterior system which defined installation place of insulation board whether interior or exterior of structural wall. However, interior system has thermal problem such as thermal-bridge which can be necessarily occur condensation. and exterior system has constructional problem such as difficult to construction because exterior and finish work so expensive construction cost than other insulation method. Thus, sandwich insulation wall system has been appeared for solving these problems. Sandwich insulation system must using wall connecting things because both side walls is divided by center insulation. At this, Through the heat at wall connecter, it can be occured thermal-bridge and broken insulation board when under construction will be bring negative effect by reducing wall thickness and insulation deficit. At this study, we were compared previous sandwich insulation system and analysis these system's problem for develop the improving constructability and performance of sandwich insulation system.

  • In lots of application to heat exchanger systems, closed two-phase thermosyphons are tilted from a horizontal. If the tilt angle, especially, is less than 30$^{\circ}$, the operational performances of thermosyphon are highly dependent on tilt angle. The present study was conducted to better understand such operational behaviors as mech-anni는 of phase change, and flow patterns inside a tilted thermosyphon. For experiment, an ethanol thermosyphon with a 35% of fill charge rate was designed and manufactured, using a copper tube with a diameter 19mm and a length 1500mm. Through a series of test, the tilt angle was kept constant at each of 4 different values in the range 10~25deg. and the heat supply to the evaporator was stepwisely increased up to 30㎾/$m^2$. When a steady state was established to the thermosyphon for each step of thermal loads, the wall temperature distribution and vapor temperature at the condenser were measured. The wall temperature distributions demonstrated a formation of dry patch in the top end zone of the evaporator, with a values of temperature 20~4$0^{\circ}C$ higher than the wetted surface for a moderate heat flux q≒20㎾/$m^2$. Inspite of the presence of hot dry patch, however, the mean values of boiling heat transfer coefficient at the evaporator wall were still in a good agreement with those predicted by Rohsenow's formula, which was based on nucleate boiling. For the condenser, the wall temperatures were practically uniform, and the measured values of condensation heat transfer coefficient were 1.7 times higher than the predicted values obtained from Nusselt's film condensation theory on tilted plate. Using those two expressions, a correlation was formulated as a function of heat flux and tilt angle, to determine the total thermal resistance of a tilted thermosyphon. The correlation formula showed a good agreement with the experimental data within 20%.

  • In contrast to the high demand for MEMS devices, microflow analysis is not feasible even for single-phase flow with conventional Navier-Stokes equation because of non-continuum effect when characteristic dimension is comparable with local mean free path. DSMC is one of particle based DNS(Direct Numerical Simulation) methods that uses no continuum assumption. In this paper, gas flow in microchannel is studied using DSMC. Interfacial shear and flow characteristics are observed and compared with the results of gas flow that is in contact with liquid case and solid wall case. The simulation is limited to the case of equilibrium steady state and evaporation/condensation coefficient is assumed to be the same and unity. System temperature remains constant and the interfacial shear appears to be small compared to the result with solid wall. This is because particles evaporated and reflected from the liquid surface form high density layer near the interface with liquid flow.

  • This study is the experimental study to improve the insulation of the fastening unit system, which has the most vulnerable insulation in the curtain walls. The Fastening Units were designed and fabricated to minimize the connection part of mullions. In addition, slight movements were taken into account and the performance of the middle layer was evaluated by forming an insulation layer with the vibration-proof rubber and the silicon to satisfy the mechanical and thermal performance criteria. A total of 10 experiments were performed under various conditions, such as indoor-outdoor temperature difference, type of insulation material, thickness of insulation material, and others. using the fabricated Fastening Units. As a result, the vibration-proof rubber insulation showed the temperature difference of $2.2^{\circ}C-5.0^{\circ}C$, and the silicon insulation showed the temperature difference of $2.8^{\circ}C-4.5^{\circ}C$, compared to the non-insulated Fasteniirature difference, typesng Units. When these results were compared with the psychometric chart graph, the insulated Fastening Unit designed in this study can be considered to prevent the dew condensation.

  • Tapetum is the tissue in which nutrients are supplied to the developing microspore in angiosperm anther. At tetrad stage of microspore, the tapetal cells show maximum development, but they began to be degenerated by apoptotic programmed cell death (PCD) after sporopollenin accumulation in the pollen wall. The initial step of PCD was observed as vacuolar fusion. After that, cytoplasmic condensation and nuclear fragmentation followed. Lipid droplets are degenerated at a relatively late stage of PCD, and orbicular bodies are the last remains in tapetal cells. The cell wall was relatively resistant against vacuolar enzymes in tapetal cells; it was considered the last structure remaining during programmed cell death of tapetum in ginseng anther.

  • To ensure the measuring accuracy of the wall temperature, the outer wall temperature measurement values by using three kinds of thermocouple welding methods were analyzed and evaluated in the paper, including single-point flush-mounted in the wall groove method, single-point insert-mounted in the wall groove, and outer surface direct welding method, based on the application of a tube-in-tube condensing heat exchanger. And the impacts of silver, tin, and thermal resistance adhesive as filling materials on wall temperature measurement were also investigated, and the results were compared to that obtained without filling materials. The results showed that the wall temperatures measured by the three welding methods were lower than the theoretically calculated value. And the wall temperature measured by the outer surface direct welding method was lowest under the same experimental conditions. The wall temperatures measured by single-point flush-mounted and insert-mounted in the wall groove methods were also affected by different welding filling materials. It was found that the greater the thermal resistance of filling materials, the smaller the heat loss. By analyzing the reasons for the low measured value of wall temperature, a new wall temperature measurement method was developed to improve the accuracy of the current measurement method. Meanwhile, the outer wall temperature measurement experiments of vertical and horizontal heat transfer tubes were carried out to validate and calibrate the improved outer wall temperature measurement method. The results showed that the average outer wall temperature deviation measured by the improved wall temperature measurement method ranged from - 0.82% to +2.29% for vertical tubes and - 4.75% to - 1.44% for horizontal tubes, and the improved measurement method had good measurement accuracy.
