  • The German spatial planning has undergone significant changes. The purpose of this study is to describe and to show how the development of spatial planning programs has developed in the Federal Republic of Germany in the last 50 years. However, the aim of this paper is not just to trace certain trends in planning practices, but to investigate their origin including the visions, directions, and purposes according to the each period. The national-level spatial planning could be divided into three phases since the enactment of the first Federal Regional Planning Act (ROG): The heyday of regional planning (1965-1975), the skepticism and crisis (1975-1990), new challenges by German unification and European integration since 1990. After 1965 the federal government has set up a number of frame-setting programs at the federal level to cope with the changing conditions and new challenges.

  • This research is a basic study to understand the current state of the complex cultural space in the public library and the programs in operation and to explore ways to activate the programs by complex cultural space based on the understanding of the public libraries that formed the complex cultural space. Thus, a survey was conducted on librarians of public libraries that had complex cultural space within the library and found that there were a number of educational, exhibition, and performance spaces, and in the same vein, there were a lot of related programs being run in the complex cultural space. However, due to the lack of personnel in charge and budget, difficulty in developing programs, low participation in the programs, and lack of cultural facilities and materials, the substantialization of complex cultural space management seems to be lacking. Therefore, it will be required to set the goals and visions for the complex cultural space in libraries and to secure space, manpower, budget, and promotional efforts to reinvigorate the complex cultural space in the future.

  • The aim of this qualitative study was to explore and understand the planning experiences of dreams and vision of the youths living in poorer area, from their own perspectives. The contents of their dreams and vision, and the preparation process to realize them and their realistic expectation for the future were experientially and systematically explored by qualitative methods. The participants were middle school students living in poorer neighborhood, recruited from 24 social work agencies under the umbrella of World Visions Korea. Focused group interviews were carried out in 24 World Visions agencies. The collected data was analyzed according to the content analysis methods. The results showed that the poor youths' dreams and vision were molded by their real experiences and continuously updated or frustrated by personal interaction with surrounding environment. It was also verified that poor youths were experiencing great difficulties in materializing their vision into practical careers due to the scarcity of emotional and financial support. Therefore, we suggest that direct and indirect social support should be provided to boost their interest in dreams and future, and that participation-oriented career guidance programs should be vitalized to help them to overcome their environmental obstacles.

  • This study has been performed to investigate group differences and determining factors of burnout of the workers in elderly living facilities. In this study, 131 male and female workers composed of social workers, health practitioners, and other management workers were selected among 23 retirement and nursing facilities in Korea between 2003 and 2005. They were asked about their socioeconomic background, working environment, and their perceptions on burnout in the working places. As for main dimensions of the burnout, there were three elements such as emotional weariness, diminishing personal accomplishment, and depersonalized behaviors. Particularly in this study, the depersonalized behaviors were defined as aggressive or rude verbal and behavioral outbursts from anger. As a result of this study, the following results were found: Most workers have medium level of perception on their commitment and burnout, but there. are some risk factors; newly married young workers were less satisfied or fairly rewarded with their job and as a result, they have significantly higher level of emotional weariness but lower feeling of personal accomplishments. In addition, they occasionality practiced aggressive or rude behaviors such as yelling, threatening, and physically harassing As for the influence of determining variables, long-time workers of long established facilities were more satisfied and less burnout. In addition, there are some impacts of job category; health practitioners were more burnout than social workers. In this study, suggestions are made as follows: first, guiding and settlement programs should be developed for the newly started young married workers, particularly at early stage of their career. Second, future aspects of facility visions should be guided for the workers, so that they are relieved from stressful routines without any future plan. Third, medical workers such as physical therapists and nurses should be further monitored for main reasons of increasing their stress.

The subjects in this study were 184 people who visited the clinical practice lab at J health college to get their teeth scaled. After a survey was conducted from May 1 to June 3, 2008, the analyzable answer sheets from 178 respondents were analyzed after four different areas were selected, which included smoking/nonsmoking, scaling experience, toothbrushing frequency and the use of oral hygiene supplies. SPSSWIN 12.0 program was utilized to make a frequency analysis and crosstabs analysis. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. Concerning subjective feelings of halitosis, 55.3 percent(99 people) of the respondents found themselves to have a moderate level of bad breath. 28.5 percent(51) deemed themselves to have a little foul breath, and 14 percent(25) didn't feel they had any bad breath. 2. As to the subjective level of halitosis, 89.8 percent(168) thought that their bad breath was a little perceived only by themselves, regardless of smoking, scaling experience, toothbrushing frequency and the use of oral hygiene supplies. 3. In regard to the cause of halitosis, 31 percent(56) cited plaque in the mouth as the cause, and 28.5 percent(51) pointed out the other causes that weren't mentioned in the questionnaire. 18.4 percent(33) cited decayed tooth, and 11.2 percent(20) pointed out gastroenteric disorder. 10.6 percent(19) viewed diabetes as the cause. 4. As to the time when they had the subjective symptom of halitosis, 114 respondents(63.7%) felt their own bad breath the most immediately after they got up 21.8 percent(39 respondents) did it when they were hungry 5.5 percent(9) did that before breakfast, and 4.5 percent(8) did that after having breakfast. 5. Regarding view of how to prevent halitosis, 52.5 percent(94) brushed their teeth frequently 21.2 percent(38) got their teeth scaled on a regular basis at a dentist's office, and 17.9 percent(32) drank water often. The above-mentioned finding seemed to suggest that the respondents weren't well aware of the fact halitosis was a sort of oral and systemic disease. Therefore the development of halitosis prevention and care programs geared toward practice lab visions were required.

  • The objective of this study is to suggest improvement plan for invention gifted education based on the awareness of teachers and professionals who related to the invention gifted education for the expansion and development of invention gifted education through improvement of relevant problems. To this end, invention gifted education system and its operational status were analyzed, and questionnaire survey on the awareness of the development plan and satisfaction level was conducted, targeting professionals related to the invention gifted education and teachers in charge of invention gifted education classes or gifted education center. The research results are as follows. First, the level of satisfaction on the invention gifted education was greater than normal (M=3.0) in general, but in the field of 'educational materials', 'teacher training programs' and 'human and material support system of support agencies', the level of satisfaction was relatively low, which requires expansion of the support. Second, it is necessary for Korean Intellectual Property Office and Korea Invention Promotion Association to designate and establish specialized research institution to play a key role in enhancing development and efficiency of invention gifted education. As a result of the questionnaire survey, it turned out that expectation and necessity of the specialized research agency was highly recognized. In particular, demand for 'research and development of gifted education method and materials' and 'research and development of teacher training materials and implementation of teacher training' was high among the key areas of the specialized research institution. Third, teachers and professionals related to the invention gifted education responded that 'invention knowledge' in the areas of invention knowledge and thinking and 'entrepreneurship' in the area of invention attitude was somewhat low toward the question on the level of the 9 characteristics of gifted students with invention talents which current beneficiaries of invention gifted education have, which leads to conclusion that review on the model for the selection of gifted children with invention talents as well as research and development of invention gifted education program to enhance characteristics with low levels is required. If long-term development plans and initiatives are deduced based on this, an effective framework for the invention gifted education will be established in the near future. In addition, it is expected that the differentiated political visions and goals will be established in connection with master plan for the promotion of gifted education.
