Lots of 2D vision algorithms have been applied for inspection. However, these 2D vision algorithms have limitation in inspection applications which require 3D information data such as the height of semiconductor chips. Stereo vision is a well known method to measure the distance from the camera to the object to be measured. But it is difficult to apply for inspection directly because of its measurement error. In this paper, we propose two adjustment methods to reduce the error of the measured height data for stereo vision. The weight value based model is used to minimize the mean squared error. The average value based model is used with simple concept to reduce the measured error. The effect of these algorithms has been proved through the experiments which measure the height of semiconductor chips.

The problem of power consumption and the limitation of a chip area should be considered when the pixel number of the edge detection circuit increases to fabricate a vision chip for edge detection with high resolution. The numeric increment of the unit circuit causes power consumption to increase and require a larger chip area. An increment of power consumption and a limitation of chip area with several ten milli-meters square supplied by the CMOS foundry company restrict the pixel numbers of the edge detection circuit. In this paper, we proposed a electronic switch to minimize the power consumption owing to the numeric increment of the edge detection circuit to realize a vision chip for edge detection with high resolution. We also applied a method by which photodetector and edge detection circuit are separated to implement a vision chip with a higher resolution. The photodetector circuit with $128{\times}128$ pixels uses a common edge detection circuit with $1{\times}128$ pixels so that resolution was improved at the same chip area. The chip size is $4mm{\times}4mm$ and the power consumption was confirmed to be about 20mW using SPICE.
Multiple 15-hue tests were designed and implemented on a PC in the study so as to quickly and quantitatively evaluate color vision acuity. Difficulty of the test was control)ed by the value of CDBACC (color difference between adjacent color chips) calculated using a CIELAB formula. The multiple 15-hue tests consist of eight of the hue tests (test 3-10) and three of the basic color (red, green, blue) tests (test 11-13). The 15 colors used for the hue tests were specified by the 15 color coordinates that were located at a constant distance (d = 2. 3. 5. 7, 10, 20, 30. 40) from white reference in the CIE chromaticity coordinate system and were separated by a constant color difference (CDBACC = 0.75, 1.1, 1.8. 2.5. 3.5. 7.5. 11, 14) from the adjacent chips. The color coordinates for the 15 chips for the basic color tests were the same as those of the 15 points spaced equally by a constant color difference (6.87 for the green color test. 7.27 for the red color test, 7.86 for the blue color test) from the white reference along the axis of red, green and blue. Thirty normal subjects who were not color blind were taken to undergo the multiple 15-hue tests. It was observed that most of the subjects correctly arranged color chips for the tests with CDBACC greater than 5, whereas no one correctly answered for those with CDBACC less than 2. Rapid changes in the number of the subjects correctly arranged took place when CDBACC of the tests was between 2 and 4.5. In the basic color tests, unlike the hue tests having similar values of CDBACC, it was seen that the subjects arranged color chips even less correctly. It was found that JNCD (just noticeable color difference) - a measure of color vision acuity was about 3 in average for the subjects. The JNCD was chosen as the value of the CDBACC of the test for which about $50\%$ of the subjects failed to successfully arrange color chips. ERCCA (error rate of color chips arrangement) for the test with CDBACC the same as the JNCD was shown to be about $20\%$. It is expected that the multi 15-hue tests implemented on a PC in the study will be an economical tool to quickly and quantitatively evaluate color vision acuity and, accordingly, the tests can be used for early diagnosis to massive potential patients suffering from diseases (ex. diabetes, glaucoma) which may induce changes in color vision acuity.
Many computer vision algorithms are computationally expensive and require a lot of computing resources. Recently, owing to machine learning technology and high-performance embedded systems, vision processing applications, such as object detection, face recognition, and visual inspection, are widely used. However, on-devices need to use their resources to handle powerful vision works with low power consumption in heterogeneous environments. Consequently, global manufacturers are trying to lock many developers into their ecosystem, providing integrated low-power chips and dedicated vision libraries. Khronos Group-an international standard organization-has released the OpenVX standard for high-performance/low-power vision processing in heterogeneous on-device systems. This paper describes vision libraries for the embedded systems and presents the OpenVX standard along with related trends for on-device vision system.
The purpose of this study is to fond out the characteristics of color perception and preferred color scheme of the aged who becomes color weak due to yellowed eye sight. For this, this study was composed of two steps. First, an experimental simulation on aged vision using Spectrophotometer(CM-2600d, Minolta) attached Y-2 filter as a quasi lenses of the aged eye. The color data of 120 color chips of the aged vision was measured and analyzed to grasp the characteristics of color perception of the age. Then, a questionnaire survey was carried out with color chips and 8 interior color schemes. They participated in a questionnaire survey of the level of identification among the color chips of 11 tones of R, G, PB, as well as a survey of the preference color schemes. The result of this study are as follow; 1) The range of color perception on hue narrowed into YR, Y, GY, G. Especially, the aged have failed perception of B${\cdot}$PB${\cdot}$P${\cdot}$RP(short wave length of light) by yellowed eye sight. 2) The level of identification among the color chips of 11 tones of R,G,PB are different by each color. But Very Pale, Pale, Strong, Vivid are fractionated similarly in almost color. 3) In the preference of interior color scheme of the aged, preference color harmony scheme Is the complementary color scheme that is easy for identification, rather than analogous color scheme. The preferred dominant color is warm color rather than cool color.
A bio-inspired vision chip for edge detection was fabricated using 0.35 ${\mu}m$ double-poly four-metal complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor technology. It mimics the edge detection mechanism of a biological retina. This type of vision chip offer several advantages including compact size, high speed, and dense system integration. Low resolution and relatively high power consumption are common limitations of these chips because of their complex circuit structure. We have tried to overcome these problems by rearranging and simplifying their circuits. A vision chip of $160{\times}120$ pixels has been fabricated in $5{\times}5\;mm^2$ silicon die. It shows less than 10 mW of power consumption.

With a remarkable advance in CMOS (complimentary metal-oxide-semiconductor) process technology, a variety of vision sensors with signal processing circuits for complicated functions are actively being developed. Especially, as the principles of signal processing in human retina have been revealed, a series of vision chips imitating human retina have been reported. Human retina is able to detect the edge and motion of an object effectively. The edge detection among the several functions of the retina is accomplished by the cells called photoreceptor, horizontal cell and bipolar cell. We designed a CMOS vision chip by modeling cells of the retina as hardwares involved in edge and motion detection. The designed vision chip was fabricated using $0.6{\mu}m$ CMOS process and the characteristics were measured. Having reliable output characteristics, this chip can be used at the input stage for many applications, like targe tracking system, fingerprint recognition system, human-friendly robot system and etc.
Automatic image registration is an essential element of remote sensing because remote sensing system generates enormous amount of data, which are multiple observations of the same features at different times and by different sensor. The general process of automatic image registration includes three steps: 1) The extraction of features to be used in the matching process, 2) the feature matching strategy and accurate matching process, 3) the resampling of the data based on the correspondence computed from matched feature. For step 2) and 3), we have developed an algorithms for automated registration of satellite images with RANSAC(Random Sample Consensus) in success. However, for step 1), There still remains human operation to generate GCP Chips, which is time consuming, laborious and expensive process. The main idea of this research is that we are able to automatically generate GCP chips with comer detection algorithms without GPS survey and human interventions if we have systematic corrected satellite image within adaptable positional accuracy. In this research, we use SUSAN(Smallest Univalue Segment Assimilating Nucleus) algorithm in order to detect the comer. SUSAN algorithm is known as the best robust algorithms for comer detection in the field of compute vision. However, there are so many comers in high-resolution images so that we need to reduce the comer points from SUSAN algorithms to overcome redundancy. In experiment, we automatically generate GCP chips from IKONOS images with geo level using SUSAN algorithms. Then we extract reference coordinate from IKONOS images and DEM data and filter the comer points using texture analysis. At last, we apply automatically collected GCP chips by proposed method and the GCP by operator to in-house automatic precision correction algorithms. The compared result will be presented to show the GCP quality.
This paper proposes a simulation algorithm to assess the gradual yellowing vision of the elderly, which refers to the predominance of yellowness in their vision due to aging of the ocular optic media. This algorithm employed the spectral transmittance property of a yellow filter to represent the color appearance perceived by elderly people with yellow vision, and modeled the changes in the color space through a spectrum change in light using the yellow filter effect. The spectral reflectivity data of 1269 Munsell matte color chips were used as reference data. Under the standard conditions of a D65 illuminant and a $10^{\circ}$ observer of 1964 CIE, the spectrum of the 1269 Munsell colors were processed through the yellow filter effect to simulate yellow vision. Various degrees of yellow vision were modeled according to the transmittance percentage of the yellow filter. The color differences before and after the yellow filter effect were calculated using the DE2000 formula, and the color pairs were selected based on the color difference function. These color pairs are distinguishable through normal vision, but the color difference diminishes as the degree of yellow vision increases. Assuming 80% of yellow vision effect, 17 color pairs out of $(1269{\times}1268)/2$ pairs were selected, and for the 90% of yellow vision effect, only 3 color pairs were selected. The result of this study can be utilized for the diagnosis system of gradual yellow vision, making various types of test charts with selected color pairs.

Development of vision system as a nondestructive evaluation system can be very useful in screening the defective mechanical parts before they are assembled into the final product. Since the tens of thousands of the mechanical parts are used in an automobile carefully inspecting the quality of the mechanical parts is very important to maximize the performance of the automobile. To sort out the defective mechanical parts before they are assembled, auto parts fabrication companies employ various inspection systems. Nondestructive evaluation systems are getting rapidly popular among various inspection systems. In this study, we have developed a vision system to inspect the inside of the brake caliper, a part that is used to compose a brake which is the most important to the safety of the drivers and the passengers. In a brake caliper, a piston is pushed against the brake disk by oil pressure, causing a friction to damp the rotation of the wheel. Inside the caliper, a groove is positioned to adopt an oil seal to prevent the oil leaks. Inspecting the groove with our vision system, we could examine the existence of the contaminants which are normally the residual tiny pieces from the machining process. We used a high resolution GigE camera, 360 degree lens to look in the inside view of the caliper at once, and a special illumination system in this vision system. We used the edge detection technique to successfully detect the contaminants which were in the form of small metal chips. Labview graphical program was used to process the digital data from the camera and to display the vision and the statistics of the contaminants. We were very successful in detecting the contaminants from the various size calipers. We think we are ready to employ this vision system to the caliper production factories.
