Estimation of the manoeuvrability of the KVLCC2 in calm water using free running simulation based on CFD

  • There are three different well-known methods for predicting the manoeuvrability of ships: (1) free running model test, (2) direct manoeuvring simulation using CFD and (3) system-based manoeuvring simulation. In this paper, the manoeuvrability of the KVLCC2 was estimated using CFD with rigid body motion and body force propeller method. The free running manoeuvre at the different time steps were also simulated. The yaw checking ability and the turning ability of KVLCC2 were predicted using CFD and could have been confirmed that the IMO criteria was satisfied. When the results were compared with the model test and system-based method, the free running simulation showed better agreement to that of the model test. It could also be confirmed that the results vary depending on the time step. Overall, the CFD results using the body force propeller method estimated most accurately the test results.

Hybrid vibro-acoustic model reduction for model updating in nuclear power plant pipeline with undetermined boundary conditions

  • In this work, the hybrid vibro-acoustic model reduction technique that is a physical-modal combined formulation is proposed to accelerate the finite element model updating process of the vibro-acoustic pipeline system. Particularly, the new formulation could provide an effective way of the model updating by preserving the physical DOFs for the direct calibration of the undetermined boundary conditions. The sensitivity based vibro-acoustic model updating is first conducted, and then the undetermined spring constant at the displacement boundary condition is then directly and effectively calibrated by using the proposed hybrid model reduction formulation. The proposed method is implemented in the real nuclear facility to evaluate its performance. In addition, an experimental implementation test using the inverse force identification process is also conducted to demonstrate the reliability of the generated vibro-acoustic FE model through the proposed method.

Effect of Kinetic Degrees of Freedom of the Fingers on the Task Performance during Force Production and Release: Archery Shooting-like Action

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of changes in degrees of freedom of the fingers (i.e., the number of the fingers involved in tasks) on the task performance during force production and releasing task. Method: Eight right-handed young men (age: $29.63{\pm}3.02yr$, height: $1.73{\pm}0.04m$, weight: $70.25{\pm}9.05kg$) participated in this study. The subjects were required to press the transducers with three combinations of fingers, including the index-middle (IM), index-middle-ring (IMR), and index-middle-ring-little (IMRL). During the trials, they were instructed to maintain a steady-state level of both normal and tangential forces within the first 5 sec. After the first 5 sec, the subjects were instructed to release the fingers on the transducers as quickly as possible at a self-selected manner within the next 5 sec, resulting in zero force at the end. Customized MATLAB codes (MathWorks Inc., Natick, MA, USA) were written for data analysis. The following variables were quantified: 1) finger force sharing pattern, 2) root mean square error (RMSE) of force to the target force in three axes at the aiming phase, 3) the time duration of the release phase (release time), and 4) the accuracy and precision indexes of the virtual firing position. Results: The RMSE was decreased with the number of fingers increased in both normal and tangential forces at the steady-state phase. The precision index was smaller (more precise) in the IMR condition than in the IM condition, while no significant difference in the accuracy index was observed between the conditions. In addition, no significant difference in release time was found between the conditions. Conclusion: The study provides evidence that the increased number of fingers resulted in better error compensation at the aiming phase and performed a more constant shooting (i.e., smaller precision index). However, the increased number of fingers did not affect the release time, which may influence the consistency of terminal performance. Thus, the number of fingers led to positive results for the current task.

  • Military training is an essential item for the fundamental problem of war. However, there has always been a problem that many resources are consumed, causing spatial and environmental pollution. The concepts of defense modeling and simulation and CGF(Computer Generated Force) using computer technology began to appear to improve this problem. The Naval Operations, Resources Analysis Model(NORAM) developed by the Republic of Korea Navy is also a DEVS(Discrete Event Simulation)-based naval virtual force analysis model. The current NORAM is a battle experiment conducted by an operator, and parameter values such as maneuver and armament operation for individual objects for each situation are evaluated. In spite of our research conducted evolutionary, supervised, reinforcement learning, in this paper, we introduce our design of a scenario creation model based on evolutionary learning using genetic algorithms. For verification, the NORAM is loaded with our model to analyze wartime engagements. Human-level tactical scenario creation capability is secured by automatically generating enemy tactical scenarios for human-designed Blue Army tactical scenarios.

다중 손가락 모멘트 제어에서 손가락 힘과 모멘트의 계층적 시너지 작용 (Hierarchical Synergy Adjustment and Finger Specialization in Multi-digit Moment Production)

  • Objective: Based on the uncontrolled manifold (UCM) framework, this study investigated the hierarchical organization of redundant motor elements in multi-digit prehension, focusing on moment production across two control hierarchies. Method: Twelve adult males participated in the current experiment where they grasped a customized handle to generate and maintain target moments under isometric conditions in both pronation and supination directions. The forces exerted by the digits, recorded via transducers on the handle, underwent UCM analysis. This analysis quantified the synergistic actions across the upper and lower control hierarchies for stabilizing moments and grip forces. Additionally, synergy properties for lateral and medial fingers were analyzed to assess their distinct contributions (finger specialization) to moment and force stabilization. Results: Our findings revealed that the thumb and virtual finger contribute differently to net moment generation according to the direction of the moment, reflecting the different abilities of the individual fingers to produce moments. In the upper hierarchy, synergistic actions were notably stronger, effectively stabilizing both moments and grip forces. In contrast, the lower control hierarchy demonstrated a lack of synergy in force stabilization (trade-off synergy), although synergy in moment stabilization was preserved. Further, lateral fingers were found to play a more significant role in stabilizing moments compared to medial fingers. Conclusion: The pronounced synergy in grip force observed in the upper hierarchy implies that grip stabilization is likely an intrinsic strategy of the central nervous system, rather than merely a mechanical consequence. Furthermore, synergistic covariations of digit moments in both hierarchies indicate the neural controller's capability to generate synergies across hierarchies for stable multi-digit moment production. The notable contribution of lateral fingers in moment stabilization provides supporting evidence of finger specialization. Overall, this study elucidates the hierarchical interplay of redundant elements to achieve task-specific stability, especially in multi-digit prehension.

루드-후르비쯔 (Routh-Hurwitz) 안정성 판별법을 이용한 인간의 임피던스가 포함된 햅틱 시스템의 안정성 분석 (Stability Analysis of a Haptic System with a Human Impedance model using the Routh-Hurwitz Criterion)

  • 햅틱 시스템에는 사용자인 인간이 항상 포함되므로, 인간 임피던스에 의한 시스템 안정성 분석이 필요하다. 특히, 일차 홀드 방식의 햅틱 시스템에 대한 인간 임피던스의 안정성 영향 분석이 미진하다. 본 논문에서는 선형 2차 시스템으로 모델화된 인간의 임피던스 모델을 포함하는, 일차 홀드 방식의 햅틱 시스템에 대한 안정성을 루드-후르비쯔 (Routh-Hurwitz)안정성 판별법을 이용하여 해석했다. 가상 벽 모델인 가상 스프링 상수 ($K_w$)의 안정성 영역과 인간 임피던스의 질량 ($M_h$), 댐핑 ($B_h$),그리고 스프링 상수 ($K_h$)와의 관계를 루드-후르비쯔 안정성 판별법을 이용하여 분석한 결과, 스프링 상수 ($K_h$)가 일정할 때 가상 스프링 상수 ($K_w$)는 인간 임피던스의 질량 ($M_h$)과 댐핑 ($B_h$)의 제곱근에 비례했다. 또한 인간 임피던스의 질량 ($M_h$)또는 댐핑 ($B_h$)가 일정할 때 가상 스프링 상수 ($K_w$)는 스프링 상수 ($K_h$)의 0.48배만큼 감소했다. 이를 종합하여 $K_w{\leq}54413{\sqrt{(M_h+M_d)(B_h+B_d)}}-0.486K_h$의 모델을 제안했고, 이론 값들과 제시된 모델로부터 계산된 값을 비교한 결과 평균적인 상대오차가 0.5%로 작게 나타났다. 제시된 모델이 인간 임피던스 모델과 가상 스프링 상수와의 관계를 비교적 잘 표현하고 있다.

햅틱 상호작용에 의한 증강 객체의 동적 움직임 모델링 (Dynamic Behavior Modelling of Augmented Objects with Haptic Interaction)

  • 본 논문에서는 실시간으로 가상현실의 증강객체에 외부의 힘이 작용할 때 증강된 가상 객체의 동적 모델링 방법을 제시하였다. 가상객체의 자연스러운 움직임을 시뮬레이션 하기 위하여 AR 객체에 적용되는 외부의 힘의 변화에 대하여 Newton의 운동법칙을 적용하여 객체의 움직임을 설명하는 식을 생성하였다. 동적 모델링 과정에서 증강된 객체와 햅틱 장비간의 실질적 상호작용이 발생하며 이때 외부의 힘이 가상객체에 전달된다. 증강된 객체의 고유특성은 강체 혹은 탄성체의 성질을 갖는 모델이다. 강체의 동적 모델링에서는 선형 모멘텀과 각속도 모멘텀을 모두 고려하여 증강된 객체와 햅틱 스틱이 충돌할 때 수행하였다. 비강체의 동적 모델링에 있어서는 탄성체의 변형 모델은 내외의 힘과 제한요소에 자연적으로 반응하기 때문에 물리기반 시뮬레이션 방법을 적용하였다. 증강된 탄성체는 햅틱 인터페이스를 통해 사용자에 의하여 발생하는 힘의 특성과 모델의 고유 특성에 따라 자연스럽게 변형된다. 변형 물체의 모델링을 위하여 Newton의 제 2 운동법칙이라 불리는 질량-스프링 연결 시스템을 적용하였다. 실험을 통하여 증강된 강체와 비강체의 성질을 지닌 가상 객체에 햅틱 장비에 의한 햅틱 상호작용이 발생 할 때 객체의 변환을 자연스럽게 가시화 할 수 있었다.

  • Simulation technology for dynamic analysis of wind turbine is developed. The Aerodyn and the DAFUL are chosen for aerodynamic analysis and multi-body and flexible body dynamics respectively. Subroutines and variables of Aerodyn developed by NREL are analyzed with hub-height wind data, full field turbulent wind data and Airfoil data. The interface to perform coupled analysis between AeroDyn and DAFUL, GUI for modeling several parts of wind turbines are developed. The program will be extended to analyze the coupled analysis of aerodynamic and hydrodynamic behavior for floating offshore wind turbines.

Case Study of Short Animation with Facial Capture Technology Using Mobile

  • The Avengers film produced by Marvel Comics shows visual effects that were impossible to produce in the past. Companies that produce film special effects were initially equipped with large personnel and equipment, but technology is gradually evolving to be feasible for smaller companies that do not have high-priced equipment and a large workforce. The development of hardware and software is becoming increasingly available to the general public as well as to experts. Equipment and software which were difficult for individuals to purchase before quickly popularized high-performance computers as the game industry developed. The development of the cloud has been the driving force behind software costs. As augmented reality (AR) performance of mobile devices improves, advanced technologies such as motion tracking and face recognition technology are no longer implemented by expensive equipment. Under these circumstances, after implementing mobile-based facial capture technology in animation projects, we have identified the pros and the cons and suggest better solutions to improve the problem.

DC 모터를 위한 전류궤환형 학습제어기 설계 (Design of Current-Feedback Control for DC Motors)

  • This paper presents a current feedback learning controller for dynamic control of DC motors. The proposed controller uses the full third-order dynamics model of DC motor system to drive stable learning rules for virtual current learning input, voltage learning input, and the coefficient of electromotive force. It is shown that the proposed learning controller drives the state of uncertain DC motor system with unknown system parameters and external load torque to the desired one globally asymptotically. Computer simulation and experimental results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed adaptive learning controller.
