For the semiactive vibration control, a variable damper and proper control systems are essential. In this research, a controllable damper was designed using the MR fluids and its mechanical properties such as damping constant and response time were measured. Since the response time of the MR damper was much longer than nominal MR fluid response time, the time delay of the damper should be considered in the design of controllers. It is shown that the advanced On/Off vibration control which includes the damper time delay performs more effectively than the conventional one.

As applying an active control technique to a pneumatic vibration isolation system, the settling time for the payload excitation could be remarkably reduced as well as the improvement of isolation performance for the ground vibration. Some previous researches were dealt with the settling time through the simulation or experiment but, the discussion on the simulation or experimental results including moving parts, such as a XY-stage, on the isolation table rarely exists. As considering the moving part, the dynamic model could be time varying system and in such a case the force imposed on pneumatic vibration isolation table could be described by inertial forces of moving parts according to Newton's 3rd law, the action and reaction law. In this paper, the simulation procedure of the 3-DOF active pneumatic vibration isolation system including moving parts by TDC(time delay control) technique is proposed and the effectiveness through simulation results are also shown.
When a building structure requires both health monitoring system and vibration control system, integrating the two systems together will be cost-effective and beneficial for creating a smart building structure with its own sensors (nervous system), processors (brain system), and actuators (muscular system). This paper presents a real-time integrated procedure to demonstrate how health monitoring and vibration control can be integrated in real time to accurately identify time-varying structural parameters and unknown excitations on one hand, and to optimally mitigate excessive vibration of the building structure on the other hand. The basic equations for the identification of time-varying structural parameters and unknown excitations of a semi-active damper-controlled building structure are first presented. The basic equations for semi-active vibration control of the building structure with time-varying structural parameters and unknown excitations are then put forward. The numerical algorithm is finally followed to show how the identification and the control can be performed simultaneously. The results from the numerical investigation of an example building demonstrate that the proposed method is feasible and accurate.

In this research, we investigated active vibration control based on wave-viewpoint using the longitudinal wave separation method. The control strategy is the one of active vibration control technique for generating vibration reduced zone and uses wave information including the directivity as the cost function. In order to get the wave information from the measured values, we proposed and examined the time-domain longitudinal wave separation method proper to real time application like active vibration control. Using the proposed method, we examine the performance and feasibility of active vibration control based wave view-point through the simulation. The related experimental verification and application is going to be expected in a near future.

Experimental results for variation of concrete strength according to vibration time control for fresh concrete were given. Vibration velocity, time before vibration and vibrating time were used as experimental parameters. Compressive strength, split tensile strength, ana bond strength were investigated and then fracture surfaces of split tensile strength specimen were observed. From the experimental results, it could be concluded that there may be no decrease in concrete strengths if time before vibration will be sustained at least for more than 3 hours.
Vibration causes noise and sometimes makes structure unstable. Especially, due to the efforts of lightening, deformation of flexible structure is increased in its shape. Just a little disturbance can cause vibration and low damping ratio makes residual vibration last long time. This research is concerned with the model reference neuro-controller design for the vibration suppression of smart structures. By using a model reference neurocontroller, which is one of the algorithms of adaptive control, we performed an adaptive control of flexible cantilever plate and opened box structure with piezoelectric materials. The proposed adaptive vibration control algorithm, a model reference neuro-controller, was proved in its effectiveness by applying to an opened box structure. The model reference neuro-controller is implemented with DSP, and the real-time adaptive vibration control experiment results confirm that the model reference neuro-controller is reliable.

An active vibration control technique of a time-varying cantilever beam is proposed in this study. A simple in-house coil sensor instead of expensive commercial sensors was used to measure the vibrational displacement of the beam. Active band pass filters and artificial neutral net works detect the frequencies, amplitudes, and phases of the main vibration mode. The time constants of the low pass filter representing the positive position feedback controller are updated in real-time, which generates the control voltage input to actuate the piezoelectric actuator and suppress the vibration. An experiment was successfully performed to verify the algorithm for a cantilever beam, which fundamental natural frequency arbitrarily varies between 9 Hz ~ 18 Hz. The present active vibration suppression technique can be applied to variety of structures which undergoes large variation of dynamic characteristics while operating.
Analytical solutions and finite element results of laminated composite plates with smart material layers embedded in them are presented in this study. The third-order plate theory of Reddy is used to study vibration suppression characteristics. The analytical solution for simply supported boundary conditions is based on the Navier solution procedure. The velocity feedback control is used. Parametric effects of the position of the smart material layers, material properties, and control parameters on the suppression time are investigated. It has been found that (a) the minimum vibration suppression time is achieved by placing the smart material layers farthest from the neutral axis, (b) using thinner smart material layers have better vibration attenuation characteristics, and, (c) the vibration suppression time is larger for a lower value of the feedback control coefficient.

As environmental vibration requirements on precision equipment become more stringent. use of pneumatic isolators has become more popular and their performance is subsequently required to be further improved. Dynamic performance of passive pneumatic isolators is related to various design parameters in a complicated manner and, hence, is very limited especially in low frequency range by volume of chambers. In this study, an active control technique, so called time delay control which is considered to be adequate for a low frequency or nonlinear system, is applied to a single chamber pneumatic isolator. The procedure of applying the time delay control law to the pneumatic isolator is presented and its effectiveness in enhancement of transmissibility performance is shown based on simulation and experiment. Comparison between passive and active pneumatic isolators is also presented.
