Performance comparison of shear walls with openings designed using elastic stress and genetic evolutionary structural optimization methods

  • Shear walls are a typical member under a complex stress state and have complicated mechanical properties and failure modes. The separated-elements model Genetic Evolutionary Structural Optimization (GESO), which is a combination of an elastic-plastic stress method and an optimization method, has been introduced in the literature for designing such members. Although the separated-elements model GESO method is well recognized due to its stability, feasibility, and economy, its adequacy has not been experimentally verified. This paper seeks to validate the adequacy of the separated-elements model GESO method against experimental data and demonstrate its feasibility and advantages over the traditional elastic stress method. Two types of reinforced concrete shear wall specimens, which had the location of an opening in the middle bottom and the center region, respectively, were utilized for this study. For each type, two specimens were designed using the separated-elements model GESO method and elastic stress method, respectively. All specimens were subjected to a constant vertical load and an incremental lateral load until failure. Test results indicated that the ultimate bearing capacity, failure modes, and main crack types of the shear walls designed using the two methods were similar, but the ductility indexes including the stiffness degradation, deformability, reinforcement yielding, and crack development of the specimens designed using the separated-elements model GESO method were superior to those using the elastic stress method. Additionally, the shear walls designed using the separated-elements model GESO method, had a reinforcement layout which could closely resist the actual critical stress, and thus a reduced amount of steel bars were required for such shear walls.

Structural health monitoring of a high-speed railway bridge: five years review and lessons learned

  • Based on monitoring data collected from the Nanjing Dashengguan Bridge over the last five years, this paper systematically investigates the effects of temperature field and train loadings on the structural responses of this long-span high-speed railway bridge, and establishes the early warning thresholds for various structural responses. Then, some lessons drawn from the structural health monitoring system of this bridge are summarized. The main context includes: (1) Polynomial regression models are established for monitoring temperature effects on modal frequencies of the main girder and hangers, longitudinal displacements of the bearings, and static strains of the truss members; (2) The correlation between structural vibration accelerations and train speeds is investigated, focusing on the resonance characteristics of the bridge at the specific train speeds; (3) With regard to various static and dynamic responses of the bridge, early warning thresholds are established by using mean control chart analysis and probabilistic analysis; (4) Two lessons are drawn from the experiences in the bridge operation, which involves the lacks of the health monitoring for telescopic devices on the beam-end and bolt fractures in key members of the main truss.

  • Little Intelligent Nanosatellite of KAIST(LINK)는 카이스트 항공우주 시스템 및 제어연구실(ASCL)에서 국제협력 프로젝트인 QB50의 일환으로 개발한 2U 크기의 큐브위성이다. QB50 프로젝트의 과학적 임무 목적은 열권 및 이온층 대기를 관측하는 것이며, 2017년 1분기부터 국제우주정거장에서 순차적으로 발사될 예정이다. 상기의 임무 구현을 위해 최종 비행모델을 개발하였으며, 수락 수준(Acceptance level)의 요구조건에 따라 환경시험 및 기능시험을 수행하여 위성의 성능 및 설계의 검증을 완료하였다. 본 논문에서는 비행모델 개발과 진동시험 및 열진공시험 결과에 대해 기술하였다.

국토해양부 표준발파패턴의 셰일암반 적용성에 관한 사례 연구 (Review of Applicability of the Standard Blasting Patterns of MLTM to Various Rock Types)

  • 우리나라는 산악지역이 70%이산 분포되어 있는 지형적 특성으로 인하여 굴착작업 시 발파작업은 필수사항으로 되어있으며, 발파작업이 이루어지는 곳에는 발파진동 소음으로 인한 민원이 부수적으로 발생하고 있다. 발파작업을 위해 경제성과 안정성, 시공성에 따라 발파패턴이 선정되어진다. 하지만 민원의 해결을 위한 공법의 무절제한 변경 등이 이루어지고 있는 일들이 발생되는 경우가 빈번하여 이를 방지하기 위해 국토해양부는 설계 및 시공에 대한 표준발파공법을 제시하였다. 그러나 국토해양부표준발파공법(2006년)은 암종에 상관없이 일괄적인 발파패턴으로 설계되어 있으므로 셰일암반 등과 같이 낮은 강도의 암반, 절리가 많이 포함되어 있는 암반에 적용한다고 할 때에 이들 암반의 특성이 고려되지 않은 상태에서 일괄적인 장약량 등의 발파제원에 따라서 경제적인 손실이 생길 수 있다고 생각되어진다. 따라서 이와 같은 셰일 및 응회암반에서 현지암반의 특성을 고려하여 공간격과 저항선의 길이를 조정한 발파제원을 적용하여 시험발파를 수행하여 어느 정도의 경제성 증대 가능성의 결과를 도출하였다. 이를 시작으로 좀더 많은 사례를 통한 정량적 결과를 도출하여 설계 및 시공에 적용한다면 경제성 향상을 기대할 수 있을 것이라 사료되어진다.

초전도 저널베어링 Substator의 특성평가 (Static Properties of Superconductor Journal Bearing Substator for Superconductor Flywheel Energy Storage System)

  • A Superconductor Flywheel Energy Storage System(SFES) mainly consists of a pair of non-contacting High Temperature Superconductor(HTS) bearings that provide very low frictional losses, a composite flywheel with high energy storage density. The HTS bearings, which offer dynamic stability without active control, are the key technology that distinguishes the SFES from other flywheel energy storage devices, and great effort is being put into developing this technology. The Superconductor Journal Bearing(SJB) mainly consists of HTS bulks and a stator, which holds the HTS bulks and also acts as a cold head. Static properties of HTS bearings provide data to solve problems which may occur easily in a running system. Since stiffness to counter vibration is the main parameter in designing an HTS bearing system, we investigate SJB magnetic force through static properties between the Permanent Magnet(PM) and HTS. We measure stiffness in static condition and the results are used to determine the optimal number of HTS bulks for a 100kWh SFES.

스퍼 기어의 FEM 해석 및 IRT 기법을 적용한 건전성 평가 (Integrity Evaluation By IRT Technique And FEM Analysis of Spur Gear)

  • As an economic, high quality, and highly reliable gear with low noise and low vibration is demanded, an overall finite element analysis regarding a gear is required. Also, an infrared thermography test, which is a quantitative testing technique, is demanded for safety and longer lifespan of gear products. In order to manufacture a gear product or to determine safety of a gear being used, it is necessary to precisely determine ingredients of a material constituting a gear and detect any internal defect. This study aims to realize a design that minimizes the spur gear displacement with respect to power during its rotation and ensures the spur gear control capacity by using a 3D model and the midasNFX program. This facilitates the assessment of the possibility of cracking by evaluating the stress intensity and focusing on the integrity of the spur gear. We prepare the specimen of the spur gear based on the possibility of cranking as per the result of the structural interpretation from an infrared ray thermal measuring technique. After cooling the spur gear, we perform experiments using thermography and halogen lamps and analyze the temperature data according to the results of the experiment. In the experiment which we use thermography after cooling, we find a rise in the temperature of the room. As a result, the defective part show temperatures lower than their surroundings while the normal parts have temperatures higher than the defective parts. Therefore, it possible to precisely identify defective part owing to its low temperature.

하이브리드 비좌굴가새의 진동제어능력에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Vibration Control Capacity of Hybrid Buckling-Restrained Braces)

  • 비좌굴가새는 우수한 내진성능을 보이는 시스템이다. 그러나 비좌굴가새는 약진이나 바람과 같은 하중에 대하여 에너지를 소산시키지 못한다. 기존의 비좌굴가새의 풍저항 성능을 개선한 하이브리드 비좌굴가새(H-BRB)는 비좌굴가새와 점탄성댐퍼로 구성된 복합댐퍼시스템의 일종이다. 본 논문에서는 탄성영역에서 H-BRB의 구조성능을 확인하기 위하여 심재가 다른 두 개의 실험체에 대한 실험이 수행되었다. H-BRB 시스템에 대한 탄성영역에서의 거동메케니즘 검증을 위하여 주저항요소와 2차 저항요소의 축변형량과 에너지소산 능력을 비교하였다. 실험결과 댐퍼부에서 이면전단을 사용한 H-BRB는 우수한 구조성능을 보이며, 고층건물의 사용성 수준을 향상시키기 위하여 적용될 수 있을 것이다.

  • In this paper, we present an experimental investigation of the frequency characteristics and a visual inspection of an oxidizer pump with a modified rear-floating ring seal for a 7-tonf turbopump. An oxidizer pump typically operates at high rotational speeds and under cryogenic conditions. Despite its low hydraulic efficiency, the floating ring seal is frequently employed as a leakage control solution for turbomachinery because it effectively reduces abrasion by friction. When the oxidizer pump starts up, the floating ring moves excursively but locks up stably against the pump casing when the contact pressure increases. The compressive force on the floating ring depends on the hydrodynamic forces induced by the flow through the floating ring. This force is controlled by the nose position of the floating ring. Based on a validation test for a 7-tonf turbopump with two types of floating rings, we concluded that the floating ring with a small diameter nose can move easily with a low contact pressure in the cooling path. This leads to instability of the pressure fluctuation around the floating ring. In contrast, a floating ring with a large diameter nose has a high contact pressure and attaches strongly to the casing, which causes wear and frictional oxidation between the contact surfaces of the impeller and the floating ring.

회절 격자 표식을 이용한 6자유도 측정 시스템의 광학적 오차 해석 및 보상 (Optical Error Analysis and Compensation of Six Degrees of Freedom Measurement System Using a Diffraction Grating Target)

  • Six degrees of freedom measurement systems are required in many fields: Precision machine control. precision assembly, vibration analysis, and so on. This paper presents a new six degrees of freedom measurement system utilizing typical features of a diffraction grating. It is composed of a laser source, three position sensitive detectors, a diffraction grating target, and several optical components. Six degrees of freedom displacement is calculated kinematically from the coordinates of diffracted rays on the detectors. Optical measurement error was caused by the fact that a laser source had a Gaussian intensity distribution. This error was analyzed and compensated using simple equations. The performance of the compensation equation was verified in the experiment. The experimental results showed that the compensation equation could reduce the optical measurement error remarkably and the error in six degrees of freedom measurement less than $\pm$10$\mu$m for translation and $\pm$0.012$^{\circ}$for rotation.

표준기어를 이용한 기어 프로파일 정밀측정 알고리즘에 관한 연구 (A Study on Algorithm for Gear Profile Measurement Using a Standard Gear)

  • 자동차 변속기 내부에서 동력을 전달하는 헬리컬 기어의 소음 및 진동을 억제하기 위한 하나의 방법으로 정밀하게 가공된 기어를 검사하기 위한 방법에 관한 것이다. 본 연구에서는 측정 기준이 되는 표준 기어와 측정 대상 기어인 워크 기어를 정밀하게 측정하는 알고리즘에 관한 것이다. 기존의 방법은 표준 기어와 모니터 기어를 1회전하여 주파수 방법으로 측정 표준을 위한 마스터링 작업을 수행하였다. 본 연구에서는 제시된 알고리즘을 사용하여 표준 기어와 모니터 기어를 측정하고, 표준 기어와 모니터 기어의 오차를 계산하는 방법을 제시함으로써 기어 측정에 대한 정밀도를 높이도록 하였다. 또한 본 알고리즘을 사용하면 빠른 속도로 측정의 표준이 되는 마스터링 공정을 빠르고 정확하게 측정할 수 있을 것으로 예상된다.
