  • Recently, measuring instruments for SHM of structures had being developed. In general, the wireless transmission of sensor signals, compared to its wired counterpart, is preferable due to its absence of triboelectric noise and elimination of the requirement for cumbersome cable. Preliminary studies on the continuous vibration measurement of high-rise buildings using MEMS sensors have been carried out. However, the research on the low-rise buildings with relatively small vibration levels is insufficient. Therefore, in this paper, we used the wireless MEMS sensor to compare and analyze the vibration measurements of three low-rise buildings.

  • In this paper we proposed a hopping routing scheme to resolve the hot spot problem for periodic monitoring services in wireless sensor networks. Our hopping routing scheme constructs load balanced routing path, where an amount of energy consumption of all nodes in the sensor networks is predictable. Load balanced routing paths can be obtained from horizontal hopping transmission scheme which balances the load of the sensor nodes in the same area, and also from vertical hopping transmission scheme which balances the load of the sensor nodes in the other area. The direct transmission count numbers as load balancing parameter for vertical hopping transmission are derived using the energy consumption model of the sensor nodes. The experimental results show that the proposed hopping scheme resolves the hot spot problem effectively. The efficiency of hopping routing scheme is also shown by comparison with other routing scheme such as multi-hop, direct transmission and clustering.

  • In this study, we develop a three-dimensional (3D) terahertz time-of-flight (THz-TOF) imaging technique with a large depth range, based on asynchronous optical sampling (ASOPS) methods. THz-TOF imaging with the ASOPS technique enables rapid scanning with a time-delay span of 10 ns. This means that a depth range of 1.5 m is possible in principle, whereas in practice it is limited by the focus depth determined by the optical geometry, such as the focal length of the scan lens. We characterize the spatial resolution of objects at different vertical positions with a focal length of 5 cm. The lateral resolution varies from 0.8-1.8 mm within the vertical range of 50 mm. We obtain THz-TOF images for samples with multiple reflection layers; the horizontal and vertical locations of the objects are successfully determined from the 2D cross-sectional images, or from reconstructed 3D images. For instance, we can identify metallic objects embedded in insulating enclosures having a vertical depth range greater than 30 mm. For feasible practical use, we employ the proposed technique to locate a metallic object within a thick chocolate bar, which is not accessible via conventional transmission geometry.

  • Route conditions, applied voltage and the condition of stringing conductors should be considered in determining standard types and skeleton diagrams of towers. In skeleton diagrams the necessary number of insulators and the air clearance have been decided by the results of studies on insulation coordination. Galloping, sleet-jumping, sag characteristics and the possibility of closeness of conductors should be considered according to the condition of stringing conductor and the span. After reviewing those factors, it is necessary to determine the minimum vertical and horizontal distance for the safety of transmission lines under any circumstances. Also it should be economical.

  • Problems of noise and vibration induced by subway operation became one of the major factor when new subway 1 me is under consideration. One of the most economic method in reducing the noise and vibration is the increasement of the tunnel mass. . Vibration of the massive tunnel structure has been measured induced by subway operation. STEDEF system which was adopted by Seoul Metropolitan Subway Bureau has been proved that more than 99% of the vibration has been decreased at the bottom of the railway track. Most of the vibration measured inside and outside of the tunnel showed that their peak frequency is around SOHz or 100Hz. The propagation characteristics of vibration in massive tunnel , wave propagate in three directions. Overall frequency in the range of 0 to 125H2 horizontal transmission usually increase, while vertical transmission decreases about 50% in the range of 0 to 25Hz and 90Hz to 125Hz regardless of modal shape.

  • In order to protect conductors from oscillations or vibrations due to winds, spacer dampers are installed on overhead transmission lines. Generally the spacer damper clamp can move slightly according to oscillation directions, namely in longitudinal, vertical & horizontal directions. This is for reducing fatigue phenomena of the conductor. But the high longitudinal- displacement of the clamp raises a doubt for its necessity. Then this paper carried out oscillation tests by using 4 bundle test lines, to know the relation between longitudinal displacement and oscillation. and suggests design necessity of the longitudinal articulation part for spacer damper clamps.

  • This paper investigates the characteristics of analytical models in prediction of sound transmission loss for the multi-layered panels with high density mineral wools. The results show that the sandwich model is more adequate to account for sound insulation performance of those panels than the poro-elastic model. In order to improve STC(Sound Transmission Class), the effect of fiber directions of mineral wools is examined, analytically and experimentally. From the comparison of the measurements with the predictions, it is evident that the vertical fiber directions of mineral wools enhance STC value up to 6 dB, compared to that of the horizontal fiber directions.

  • The transmission of harmonic vibratory power form a vibrating rigid body into a supporting plate through passive and active isolators is investigated theoretically and experimentally. The theoretical model allows for the transmission of vertical and horizontal harmonic forces and moments about all three coordinate sun. The experiment is to use vibration actuators attached to the intermediate mass of the two-stage mount to minimize the rotational and translational vibration of the intermediate mass. The performance is done by measuring the vibration at the error sensors due to the primary vibration source and measuring the transfer functions from the control sources to the error sensors. Results show that over a frequence range from 1 to 100Hz, transmission into the supporting plate can be reduced substantially by employing in parallel with existing passive isolators, active isolators adjusted to provide appropriate control force amplitudes.

  • Analog communication systems using AM, FM modem have been developed. Digital communication systems using digital modems, which is by expansion of digital hardware skill have been recently developed. In order to accomplish a reliable communication it is important to overcome ocean environmental channel characteristics such as transmission loss, ambient noise and multipath effect etc. Specially, the effect of multipath is the most important element that determines the performance of underwater communication system in shallow water. Multipath channel can be divided a vertical and horizontal channel. the former is defined the channel to have large path-delay times between a direct wave and reflected waves. The latter shows relatively small path-delay times between a direct and reflected waves in compared with a vertical channel. In this paper, The performance of FSK, PSK and DPSK modem with respect to the vertical and horizontal multipath communication channels it described and compared.

  • Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a major medical challenge affecting around 200 million people worldwide. The main site of HCV replication is the hepatocytes of the liver. HCV is a positive enveloped RNA virus from the flaviviridae family. Six major HCV genotypes are implicated in the human infection. In developed countries the children are infected mainly through vertical transmission during deliveries, while in developing countries it is still due to horizontal transmission from adults. Minimal nonspecific and brief symptoms are initially found in approximately 15% of children. Acute and chronic HCV infection is diagnosed through the recognition of HCV RNA. The main objective for treatment of chronic HCV is to convert detected HCV viremia to below the detection limit. Children with chronic HCV infection are usually asymptomatic and rarely develop severe liver damage. Therefore, the benefits from current therapies, pegylated-Interferon plus ribavirin, must be weighed against their adverse effects. This combined treatment offers a 50-90% chance of clearing HCV infection according to several studies and on different HCV genotype. Recent direct acting antiviral (DAA) drugs which are well established for adults have not yet been approved for children and young adults below 18 years. The most important field for the prevention of HCV infection in children would be the prevention of perinatal and parenteral transmission. There are areas of focus for new lines of research in pediatric HCV-related disease that can be addressed in the near future.
