In this paper we introduced a new score generating function for the rank dispersion function in a multiple linear model. Based on the new score function, we derived the asymptotic relative efficiency, ARE(11, rs), of our score function with respect to the Wilcoxon scores for the generalized F distributions which show very flexible distributions with a variety of shape and tail behaviors. We thoroughly explored the selection of r and s of our new score function that provides improvement over the Wilcoxon scores.

In the present study, we show the inhibitory effect of anethole, a substituted alkenylbenzene found in a variety of foods and essential oils, on T lymphocyte functions. Anethole produced an inhibition of concanavalin A-induced lymphoproliferation in B6C3F1 mouse splenocytes.(omitted)

We show that if a divisor centered over a point on a smooth surface computes a minimal log discrepancy, then the divisor also computes a log canonical threshold. To prove the result, we study the asymptotic log canonical threshold of the graded sequence of ideals associated to a divisor over a variety. We systematically study this invariant and prove a result describing which divisors compute asymptotic log canonical thresholds.

First, we define phase tropical hypersurfaces in terms of a degeneration data of smooth complex algebraic hypersurfaces in (ℂ∗)n. Next, we prove that complex hyperplanes are homeomorphic to their degeneration called phase tropical hyperplanes. More generally, using Mikhalkin's decomposition into pairs-of-pants of smooth algebraic hypersurfaces, we show that a phase tropical hypersurface with smooth tropicalization is naturally a topological manifold. Moreover, we prove that a phase tropical hypersurface is naturally homeomorphic to a symplectic manifold.

Let X be a nodal complete intersection 3-fold defined by a hypersurface in ℙ⁵ of degree n and a smooth quadratic hypersurface in ℙ⁵ . Then we show that X is factorial if it has at most n² - n + 1 nodes and contains no 2-planes, where n = 3, 4.

Objectives: This survey was intended to provide basic data which can be available as a baseline in the set up of dietary guidelines for assuring community-based self-support of the rural elderly, through investigation of the relationship of the various dietary consumptions with their ADL and IADL. Methods: The study subjects, 439 rural residents(male: 196, female:243) aged over 65 in Kumsan Kun and Chongyang Kun, Chungchongnamdo Province were interviewed, in June of 2004, about their sociodemographic characteristics, daily life styles, the variety of dietary consumption, ADL and IADL with the following major findings: Results: In terms of the scores' distribution to show variety of food consumption among all subjects, 68.3% got 1~3 points, 23.2% 4~6 points, and 8.4% 7~10 points with a decreasing proportion of subjects in higher points. In terms of their functional status, normal-range groups showed 93.2% of ADL and 72.9% of IADL whereas, impaired ADL group 6.8% of ADL and 27.1% of IADL, respectively. Concerning the relation of ADL and IADL with the variety of their consumed food, the greater scores for food variety was associated with the significantly higher proportion of normal ADL group and the lower proportion of impaired ADL group. Multiple logistic regression analysis with ADL and IADL as dependent variables, and food variety scores as explanatory variables, the relative risk of impaired-ADL group was 0.84 in the food variety group of 4~6 points, 0.63 in 7~10 points with no statistical significance. The relative risk of impaired- IADL group was 0.52(p<0.01) in the food variety group of 4~6 points, 0.41(p<0.05) in 7~10 points with statistical significance. Conclusions: These study results suggest that the lower dietary variety, the lower functional capacity of daily living, and the variety of dietary is associated with the functional capacity of daily living in rural elderly.

This paper is composed of computer programs and practical examples for the education of mathematics. The Animation package in the Mathematica standard packages is the Graphics Animation. Animations are the ways which produce a sequence of different pictures by rapid succession. The command Animate has a number of options such as Animate, SpinShow and ShowAnimation. Mathematica is available for a large variety of practical education of mathematics. The method in this report are familiar with the general principles of operating the computer in Mathematica 3.0. In this paper there a set of useful examples of mathematical education and we discusses some of the advanced technique for the Input-Output systems.

Whereas a large variety of previous studies show mixed results regarding the relationship between public investment and economic outcome, several studies have been conducted on related issues in Korea. The present study deals with the effect of public investment in Korea on economic growth and productivity. Using administrative data, it exploits three different methodologies: the total factor productivity approach, production function approach, and stochastic frontier production function approach. The results of this study show that public investment has a statistically significant effect on economic growth. However, it contributes little to enhance productivity. It is explained that there exists inefficiency of production in the Korean economy. These findings indicate that public investment has played a central role in the direct input factor and not in indirect role in Korea. Thus, it is necessary for public investment policies to concentrate on enhancing the efficiency of the Korean economy.
