The purpose of this study was to improve the ornamental value of Perilla frutescens var. acuta. The growth of Perilla frutescens var. acuta was significantly varied as according to light intensities. The plant height, crown width, petiole length, leaf length, leaf width, stem diameter, and chlorophyll content were the greatest with 30% shade treatment. All of growth characteristics decreased as increasing shading levels. The anthocyanin contents also decreased with 70% shading level. The leaf color turned from dark purplish red to deep yellowish green, and the growth rate and ornamental value were the lowest with 70% shading condition.

ZnO films were deposited on glass substrates by radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering and exposed to intense electron beam irradiation to investigate the effects of electron irradiation on the properties of the films. Although all of the films had ZnO (002) textured structure regardless of electron irradiation, the grain sizes of the films decreased with electron irradiation. Surface roughness also depended on electron irradiation. The surface roughness varied between 2.3 and 1.6 nm, depending on the irradiation energy. Based on photoluminescence (PL) characterization, the most intense UV emission was observed from ZnO films irradiated at 900 eV. Since the intensity of UV emission is dependent upon the stoichiometric of ZnO films, we conclude that 900 eV was the optimum electron irradiation energy to achieve the best stoichiometric of ZnO films in this study.

The response of silkworm, Bombyx mori L. to phytoecdysteroid (PE) when administered at different ages of $5^{th}$ instar was studied in the popular bivoltine ($CSR2{\times}CSR4$) and multi${\times}$bivoltine ($PM{\times}CSR2$) silkworm hybrids, reared on the Victory-1 variety of mulberry leaves. PE was administered to $5^{th}$ instar silkworm per os at a rate of $250{\mu}g$ per 100 larvae to different batches of silkworm at 0, 24, 48, 72, 96, 120, 144 hrs and at the onset of cocoon spinning when a few larvae were ripe. The larval and mounting duration, cocoon yield and cocoon characters were influenced by PE. The intensity of influence was dependent on the time of application. The larvae treated at the beginning of the instar, improved the economic traits significantly with a marginal increase in larval duration. In the larvae treated at the middle of the instar, larval duration was shortened remarkably but the economic traits were adversely affected. This particular treatment can become a good management strategy in the case of mulberry leaf shortage or disease incidence. In the larvae treated at the onset of cocoon spinning, the mounting duration was substantially reduced without much effect on the cocoon traits which would be a big benefit in commercial sericulture. The physiological significance of varied response of silkworm to PE administration is discussed.

Objectives Lysosome is the cell-organelle which is commonly used as biomonitoring tool in environmental pollution. In this study, the lysosomal proteomic of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae was analyzed for utilization in the detection of toxic substances in mine water samples. Methods This work informs the expression of lysosomal proteomic in yeast in response with toxic chemicals, such as sodium meta-arsenite and tetracycline, for screening specific biomarkers. After that, a recombinant yeast contained this biomarker were constructed for toxic detection in pure toxic chemicals and mine water samples. Results Each chemical had an optimal dose at which the fluorescent protein intensity reached the peak. In the case of water samples, the yeast showed the response with sample 1, 3, 4, and 5; whereas there is no response with sample 2, 6, and 7. Conclusions The recombinant yeast showed a high ability of toxic detection in response with several chemicals such as heavy metals and pharmaceuticals. In the case of mine water samples, the response varied depending on the sample content.

Wake characteristics of the flow over a finite square prism at different incidence angles were experimentally investigated using an open-loop wind tunnel. A finite square prism with a width D = 15 mm and a height H = 7D was vertically mounted on a horizontal flat plate. The Reynolds number was varied from $6.5{\times}10^3$ to $28.5{\times}10^3$ and the incidence angle ${\alpha}$ was changed from $0^{\circ}$ to $45^{\circ}$. The ratio of boundary layer thickness to the prism height was about ${\delta}/H=7%$. The time-averaged velocity, turbulence intensity and the vortex shedding frequency were obtained through a single-component hotwire probe. Power spectrum of the streamwise velocity fluctuations revealed that the tip and base vortices shed at the same frequency as that ofspanwise vortices. Furthermore, the results showed that the critical incidence angle corresponding to the maximum Strouhal number and minimum wake width occurs at ${\alpha}_{cr}=15^{\circ}$ which is equal to that reported for an infinite prism. There is a reduction in the size of the wake region along the height of the prism when moving away from the ground plane towards the free end.
To reveal the newly found liftoff height behavior of hydrogen jet, we have experimentally studied the stabilization mechanism of turbulent, lifted jet flames in a non-premixed condition. The objectives of the present research are to report the phenomenon of a liftoff height decreasing as increasing fuel velocity, to analyse the flame structure and behavior of the lifted jet, and to explain the mechanisms of flame stability in hydrogen turbulent non-premixed jet flames. The velocity of hydrogen was varied from 100 to 300m/s and a coaxial air velocity was fixed at 16m/s with a coflow air less than 0.1m/s. For the simultaneous measurement of velocity field and reaction zone, PIV and OH PLIF technique was used with two Nd:Yag lasers and CCD cameras. As results, it has been found that the stabilization of lifted hydrogen diffusion flames is related with a turbulent intensity, which means that combustion occurs at the point where the local flow velocity is balanced with the turbulent flame propagation velocity.
Structural stress under shock or impact load is varied with the lapse of time and the structural stress is called stress wave. Propagating longitudinal stress wave is studied in a 2-dimensional plate. A finite element program for elastic stress wave propagation is developed in order to investigate the shape of stress field at time increment. The longitudinal stress wave is generated by unit step function. According to the finite element analysis results, the longitudinal stress wave propagates to the similar direction of impact load and the front of stress wave propagates with the same speed as analytic solution and the shape of stress field is similar to that of analytic solution. The shear wave is occurred after the longitudinal stress wave and declined at an angle of 45 degrees compared with longitudinal stress wave and the speed of shear wave is about a half of the longitudinal stress wave. The intensity of shear wave is larger than that of longitudinal stress wave.
The characteristics of all the instruments and materials used in atomic industry is changed due to radiation damages by the effects of radiation activities. In this study, when the Carbon Resistor, main element of electrical circuits, is irradiated by Gamma-Ray, variations in its electrical properties have been investigated. The following results are obtained: 1) The resistance value in Carbon Resistor is exponentially increased as the quantity of irradiation by Gamma-Ray is increased, but in case of more than 10$^{6}$ R/hr. of quantity of irradiation it has saturated-state value. 2) The rate of change inrestistance value has been independent on the intensity of Gamma-Ray source when Carbon Resistor is irradiated in the same quantity of irradiation. 3) The resistance value in irradiated Carbon Resistor has not been varied with elapse of time. 4) The more the distance from the Carbon Resistor to the Gamma-Ray source the more greatly the resistance value is decreased and that it has been shown that the more quantity of irradiation by Gamma-Ray, the greater the rate of decrease in resistance value. Through the above results it has been concluded that the measurement values obtained by the high-precision instruments in the radiation field have to be corrected with proper consideration to radiation damages.
In tho XRD study of $56ZrF_4 \cdot34BaF_2 \cdot4AIF_3 \cdot(6-x)LaF_3 \cdotxLnF_3$ glassdLn=Ce, Nd, Gd, Th), halo pattern charactarktic fo an amorphous sample appeared. When the halo peak angle ($\theta_p$) was converted into a wavenumber with $Qp=4\pi sinG\pi/\lambda(\lambda$ is the wavolongth of the radialion used), it was found that the Qp values varied almost liuearly
with the concentration 01 $LnF_3$. The emissiou spect1.a of $Ce^{3-}$-containing fluoride glasses nnder 273 nm excitation had a peak maximum at ea. 300 nm $(Ce^{3+}$ 5d-4f- transition). The maximal intensity of the fluorescence was observed when the $CeF_3$, content was extremely low (ca. 1 mol%j. DTA measurement revealed tbat these fluoride
glasses had two crystallization temperatures. In $56ZrF_4. 34BaF_2. 4NF_3. (6-x)LaF_3 .xNdF_3$ glasses, the actmation
energies of crystallization obtained from a Kssinger plot were 1.7 and 5.0 eV for the glass with x=2, and 1.9 and
5.6 eV for the glass with x=4.
In this study, optical and mechanical properties were investigated with 4 kinds of commercial dental enamels. As a result of EDS analysis $SiO_2,\;Na_{2}O,\;Al_{2}O_3\;and\;K_{2}O$ were the main components of commercial dental enamels. In case of H specimen, content of $SiO_2\;and\;K_2O$ were more than that of another specimens. Starting powder and fired specimens were glass ceramics which were consist of amorphous phase and leucite (crystalline) phase. Crystallization did not occurred during firing process, since the XRD peak intensity was similar between starting powder and fired specimens. As a result of differential thermal analysis, $T_g$ and crystalline temperature was varied with composition in the range of $548\sim576^{\circ}C$ and $735\sim780^{\circ}C$ respectively. 0.5mm thickness dental enamel specimens showed sufficient translucent properties. However, transmittance and reflectance were lower than 5% result from scattering due to the refractive index difference between glass and crystalline phase. 3 point bending strength was in the range of 73.9$\sim$101.8MPa which was similar or slightly higher than enamel of natural teeth and Vickers hardness was higher than enamel of natural teeth more than 100.
