Let G = (V, E) be a connected finite graph. We study the existence of solutions for the following generalized Chern-Simons equation on G $${\Delta}u={\lambda}e^u(e^u-1)^5+4{\pi}\sum_{s=1}^{N}\delta_{ps}$$, where λ > 0, δps is the Dirac mass at the vertex ps, and p1, p2, . . . , pN are arbitrarily chosen distinct vertices on the graph. We show that there exists a critical value $\hat{\lambda}$ such that when λ > $\hat{\lambda}$, the generalized Chern-Simons equation has at least two solutions, when λ = $\hat{\lambda}$, the generalized Chern-Simons equation has a solution, and when λ < $\hat{\lambda}$, the generalized Chern-Simons equation has no solution.
In this paper, we consider a model problem arising from a classical planar Heisenberg ferromagnetic spin chain $-{\Delta}u+V(x)u-{\frac{u}{\sqrt{1-u^2}}}{\Delta}{\sqrt{1-u^2}}={\lambda}{\mid}u{\mid}^{p-2}u$, x ∈ ℝN, where 2 ≤ p < 2*, N ≥ 3. By the Ekeland variational principle, the cut off technique, the change of variables and the L∞ estimate, we study the existence of positive solutions. Here, we construct the L∞ estimate of the solution in an entirely different way. Particularly, all the constants in the expression of this estimate are so well known.
In this study, a method has been proposed to improve the performance of hydraulic property estimation model developed by Jeong et al. (2020). In their study, low-dimensional features of the annual groundwater level (GWL) fluctuation patterns extracted based on a Denoising autoencoder (DAE) was used to develop a regression model for predicting hydraulic properties of an aquifer. However, low-dimensional features of the DAE are highly dependent on the precipitation pattern even if the GWL is monitored at the same location, causing uncertainty in hydraulic property estimation of the regression model. To solve the above problem, a process for generating the GWL fluctuation pattern for conditioning the precipitation is proposed based on a conditional variational autoencoder (CVAE). The CVAE trains a statistical relationship between GWL fluctuation and precipitation pattern. The actual GWL and precipitation data monitored on a total of 71 monitoring stations over 10 years in South Korea was applied to validate the effect of using CVAE. As a result, the trained CVAE model reasonably generated GWL fluctuation pattern with the conditioning of various precipitation patterns for all the monitoring locations. Based on the trained CVAE model, the low-dimensional features of the GWL fluctuation pattern without interference of different precipitation patterns were extracted for all monitoring stations, and they were compared to the features extracted based on the DAE. Consequently, it can be confirmed that the statistical consistency of the features extracted using CVAE is improved compared to DAE. Thus, we conclude that the proposed method may be useful in extracting a more accurate feature of GWL fluctuation pattern affected solely by hydraulic characteristics of the aquifer, which would be followed by the improved performance of the previously developed regression model.

We calculate the facet reflectivity of buried channel waveguides and ridge waveguides as a function of the waveguide width for various thicknesses using the angular spectrum method and the two dimensional field profiles obtained by the variational method (VM) and the effective index method (EIM). The variation of the reflectivity of buried channel waveguides as a function of the waveguide width is large, while that of ridge waveguides is very small. The accuracy of the field profiles necessary for the calculation of the facet reflectivity using the angular spectrum method greatly affects that of the facet reflectivity. The difference between the exact reflectivity and that using EIM increases as the waveguide width and thickness decreases due to the inaccuracy of the field profiles obtained by EIM. However, the difference between the exact reflectivity and that using VM is smaller than that using EIM regardless of waveguide width and thickness. The difference between the facet reflectivities u sing EIM and VM is small in the area where the EIM works very well.

The accurate analysis of water vapor in initial of numerical weather prediction (NWP) model is required as one of the necessary conditions for the improvement of heavy rainfall prediction and reduction of spin-up time on a very-short-range forecast. To study this effect, the impact of a ground-based Global Positioning System (GPS)-Precipitable Water Vapor (PWV) on very-short-range forecast are examined. Data assimilation experiments of GPS-PWV data from 19 sites over the Korean Peninsula were conducted with Advanced Storm-scale Analysis and Prediction System (ASAPS) based on the Korea Meteorological Administration's Korea Local Analysis and Prediction System (KLAPS) included "Hot Start" as very-short-range forecast system. The GPS total water vapor was used as constraint for integrated water vapor in a variational humidity analysis in KLAPS. Two simulations of heavy rainfall events show that the precipitation forecast have improved in terms of ETS score compared to the simulation without GPS-PWV data. In the first case, the ETS for 0.5 mm of rainfall accumulated during 3 hrs over the Seoul-Gyeonggi area shows an improvement of 0.059 for initial forecast time. In other cases, the ETS improved 0.082 for late forecast time. According to a qualitative analysis, the assimilation of GPS-PWV improved on the intensity of precipitation in the strong rain band, and reduced overestimated small amounts of precipitation on the out of rain band. In the case of heavy rainfall during the rainy season in Gyeonggi province, 8 mm accompanied by the typhoon in the case was shown to increase to 15 mm of precipitation in the southern metropolitan area. The GPS-PWV assimilation was extremely beneficial to improving the initial moisture analysis and heavy rainfall forecast within 3 hrs. The GPS-PWV data on variational data assimilation have provided more useful information to improve the predictability of precipitation for very short range forecasts.

This paper presents optimization of the main spar of Human-Powered Aircraft (HPA) wing. Mass minimization was attempted, while considering large torsional deformation of the beam. Sequential Quadratic Programming (SQP) method was adopted as a relevant tool to conduct structural optimization algorithm. An inner diameter and ply thicknesses of the main spar were selected as the design variables. The objective function includes factors such as mass minimization, constant tip bending displacement, and constant tip twist of the beam. For estimation of bending and torsional deformation, the geometrically exact beam model, which is appropriate for large deflection, was adopted. Properties of the cross sectional area which the geometrically exact beam model requires were obtained by Variational Asymptotic Beam Sectional Analysis (VABS), which is a cross sectional analysis program. As a result, maintaining tip bending displacement and tip twist within 1.45%, optimal design that accomplished 7.88% of the mass reduction was acquired. By the stress and strain recovery, structural integrity of the optimal design and validity of the present optimization procedure were authenticated.

Korean language has the characteristics that the pronunciation of phoneme units such as vowels and consonants are fixed and the pronunciation associated with a notation does not change, so that foreign learners can approach rather easily Korean language. However, when one pronounces words, phrases, or sentences, the pronunciation changes in a manner of a wide variation and complexity at the boundaries of syllables, and the association of notation and pronunciation does not hold any more. Consequently, it is very difficult for foreign learners to study Korean standard pronunciations. Despite these difficulties, it is believed that systematic analysis of pronunciation errors for Korean words is possible according to the advantageous observations that the relationship between Korean notations and pronunciations can be described as a set of firm rules without exceptions unlike other languages including English. In this paper, we propose a visualization framework which shows the differences between standard pronunciations and erratic ones as quantitative measures on the computer screen. Previous researches only show color representation and 3D graphics of speech properties, or an animated view of changing shapes of lips and mouth cavity. Moreover, the features used in the analysis are only point data such as the average of a speech range. In this study, we propose a method which can directly use the time-series data instead of using summary or distorted data. This was realized by using the deep learning-based technique which combines Self-organizing map, variational autoencoder model, and Markov model, and we achieved a superior performance enhancement compared to the method using the point-based data.

In order to detect climate changes using satellite imagery, the GCOS (Global Climate Observing System) defines requirements such as spatio-temporal resolution, stability by the time change, and uncertainty. Due to limitation of GK-2A sensor performance, the level-2 products can not satisfy the requirement, especially for spatial resolution. In this paper, we found the optimal pan-sharpening algorithm for GK-2A products. The six pan-sharpening methods included in CS (Component Substitution), MRA (Multi-Resolution Analysis), VO (Variational Optimization), and DL (Deep Learning) were used. In the case of DL, the synthesis property based method was used to generate training dataset. The process of synthesis property is that pan-sharpening model is applied with Pan (Panchromatic) and MS (Multispectral) images with reduced spatial resolution, and fused image is compared with the original MS image. In the synthesis property based method, fused image with desire level for user can be produced only when the geometric characteristics between the PAN with reduced spatial resolution and MS image are similar. However, since the dissimilarity exists, RD (Random Down-sampling) was additionally used as a way to minimize it. Among the pan-sharpening methods, PSGAN was applied with RD (PSGAN_RD). The fused images are qualitatively and quantitatively validated with consistency property and the synthesis property. As validation result, the GSA algorithm performs well in the evaluation index representing spatial characteristics. In the case of spectral characteristics, the PSGAN_RD has the best accuracy with the original MS image. Therefore, in consideration of spatial and spectral characteristics of fused image, we found that PSGAN_RD is suitable for GK-2A products.

Studies on landscape ecology have focused on conceptual aspects, while empirical focus for spatial planning has been rarely conducted. This study conducted an empirical analysis to enhance landscape ecological performance of urban developments using landscape ecology. To do so, concrete criteria and standards to analyze structural, functional and variational mechanisms of urban landscape ecology were developed. An integrated landscape ecology assessment model that can be applied to urban development planning was established by combining the criteria. Next, Landscape Ecological Management System (LEMS) was developed to implement an integrated assessment using GIS. To verify the effectiveness of the system, a case study was conducted using LEMS on Byulnae City in the Seoul Metropolitan Area. The LEMS can be useful for urban planners and policy makers in their selection of desirable planning alternatives. Moreover, the LEMS developed in this study can be a useful tool for academia in terms of the implementation of further related studies, and for planning professionals in their environmental impact assessment tasks.
Structural identification via modal analysis in structural mechanics is gaining popularity in recent years, despite conceptual difficulties connected with its use. This paper is devoted to illustrate both the capabilities and the indeterminacy characterizing structural identification problems even in quite simple instances, as well as the cautions that should be accordingly adopted. In particular, we discuss an application of an identification technique of variational type, based on the measurement of eigenfrequencies and mode shapes, to a steel frame with friction joints under various assembling conditions. Experience has suggested, so as to restrict the indeterminacy frequently affecting identification issues, having resort to all the a priori acknowledged information on the system, to the symmetry and presence of structural elements with equal stiffness, to mention one example, and mindfully selecting the parameters to be identified. In addition, considering that the identification techniques have a local character and correspond to the updating of a preliminary model of the structure, it is important that the analytical model on the first attempt should be adequately accurate. Secondly, it has proved determinant to cross the results of the dynamic identification with tests of other typology, for instance, static tests, so as to fully understand the structural behavior and avoid the indeterminacy due to the nonuniqueness of the inverse problem.
