In this paper, numerical techniques are presented for solving initial value problems of fractional differential equations with variable coefficients. The method is derived by applying a Taylor vector approximation. Moreover, the operational matrix of fractional integration of a Taylor vector is provided in order to transform the continuous equations into a system of algebraic equations. Furthermore, numerical examples demonstrate that this method is applicable and accurate.

Based on the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT), and the virtual work principle, an elastic analysis for axisymmetric clamped-clamped Pressurized thick truncated conical shells made of functionally graded materials have been performed. The governing equations are a system of nonhomogeneous ordinary differential equations with variable coefficients. Using the matched asymptotic method (MAM) of the perturbation theory, these equations could be converted into a system of algebraic equations with variable coefficients and two systems of differential equations with constant coefficients. For different FGM conical angles, displacements and stresses along the radius and length have been calculated and plotted.
Dynamic response of axisymmetric arbitrary laminated composite cylindrical shell of finite length, using three-dimensional elasticity equations are studied. The shell is simply supported at both ends. The highly coupled partial differential equations are reduced to ordinary differential equations (ODE) with variable coefficients by means of trigonometric function expansion in axial direction. For cylindrical shell under dynamic load, the resulting differential equations are solved by Galerkin finite element method, In this solution, the continuity conditions between any two layer is satisfied. It is found that the difference between elasticity solution (ES) and higher order shear deformation theory (HSD) become higher for a symmetric laminations than their unsymmetric counterpart. That is due to the effect of bending-streching coupling. It is also found that due to the discontinuity of inplane stresses at the interface of the laminate, the slope of transverse normal and shear stresses aren't continuous across the interface. For free vibration analysis, through dividing each layer into thin laminas, the variable coefficients in ODE become constants and the resulting equations can be solved exactly. It is shown that the natural frequency of symmetric angle-ply are generally higher than their antisymmetric counterpart. Also the results are in good agreement with similar results found in literatures.

This manuscript presents impacts of gradation of material functions and axial load functions on critical buckling loads and mode shapes of functionally graded (FG) thin and thick beams by using higher order shear deformation theory, for the first time. Volume fractions of metal and ceramic materials are assumed to be distributed through a beam thickness by both sigmoid law and symmetric power functions. Ceramic-metal-ceramic (CMC) and metal-ceramic-metal (MCM) symmetric distributions are proposed relative to mid-plane of the beam structure. The axial compressive load is depicted by constant, linear, and parabolic continuous functions through the axial direction. The equilibrium governing equations are derived by using Hamilton's principles. Numerical differential quadrature method (DQM) is developed to discretize the spatial domain and covert the governing variable coefficients differential equations and boundary conditions to system of algebraic equations. Algebraic equations are formed as a generalized matrix eigenvalue problem, that will be solved to get eigenvalues (buckling loads) and eigenvectors (mode shapes). The proposed model is verified with respectable published work. Numerical results depict influences of gradation function, gradation parameter, axial load function, slenderness ratio and boundary conditions on critical buckling loads and mode-shapes of FG beam structure. It is found that gradation types have different effects on the critical buckling. The proposed model can be effective in analysis and design of structure beam element subject to distributed axial compressive load, such as, spacecraft, nuclear structure, and naval structure.
In this paper, we apply Homotopy perturbation transform method (HPTM) for solving singular fourth order parabolic partial differential equations with variable coefficients. This method is the combination of the Laplace transform method and Homotopy perturbation method. The nonlinear terms can be easily handled by the use of He's polynomials. The aim of using the Laplace transform is to overcome the deficiency that is mainly caused by unsatisfied conditions in other semi-analytical methods such as Homotopy perturbation method (HPM), Variational iteration method (VIM) and Adomain Decomposition method (ADM). The proposed scheme finds the solutions without any discretization or restrictive assumptions and avoids the round-off errors. The comparison shows a precise agreement between the results and introduces this method as an applicable one which it needs fewer computations and is much easier and more convenient than others, so it can be widely used in engineering too.
We study existence of polynomial integrating factors and solutions F(x, y)=c of first order nonlinear differential equations. We characterize the homogeneous case, and give algorithms for finding existence of and a basis for polynomial solutions of linear difference and differential equations and rational solutions or linear differential equations with polynomial coefficients. We relate singularities to nature of the solution. Solution of differential equations in closed form to some degree might be called more an art than a science: The investigator can try a number of methods and for a number of classes of equations these methods always work. In particular integrating factors are tricky to find. An analogous but simpler situation exists for integrating inclosed form, where for instance there exists a criterion for when an exponential integral can be found in closed form. In this paper we make a beginning in several directions on these problems, for 2 variable ordinary differential equations. The case of exact differentials reduces immediately to quadrature. The next step is perhaps that of a polynomial integrating factor, our main study. Here we are able to provide necessary conditions based on related homogeneous equations which probably suffice to decide existence in most cases. As part of our investigations we provide complete algorithms for existence of and finding a basis for polynomial solutions of linear differential and difference equations with polynomial coefficients, also rational solutions for such differential equations. Our goal would be a method for decidability of whether any differential equation Mdx+Mdy=0 with polynomial M, N has algebraic solutions(or an undecidability proof). We reduce the question of all solutions algebraic to singularities but have not yet found a definite procedure to find their type. We begin with general results on the set of all polynomial solutions and integrating factors. Consider a differential equation Mdx+Ndy where M, N are nonreal polynomials in x, y with no common factor. When does there exist an integrating factor u which is (i) polynomial (ii) rational? In case (i) the solution F(x, y)=c will be a polynomial. We assume all functions here are complex analytic polynomial in some open set.

The present manuscript aims to investigate the deviation between the middle surface (MS) and neutral surface (NS) formulations on the static response of bi-directionally functionally graded (BDFG) porous plate. The higher order shear deformation plate theory with a four variable is exploited to define the displacement field of BDFG plate. The displacement field variables based on both NS and on MS are presented in detail. These relations tend to get and derive a new set of boundary conditions (BCs). The porosity distribution is portrayed by cosine function including three different configurations, center, bottom, and top distributions. The elastic foundation including shear and normal stiffnesses by Winkler-Pasternak model is included. The equilibrium equations based on MS and NS are derived by using Hamilton's principles and expressed by variable coefficient partial differential equations. The numerical differential quadrature method (DQM) is adopted to solve the derived partial differential equations with variable coefficient. Rigidities coefficients and stress resultants for both MS and NS formulations are derived. The mathematical formulation is proved with previous published work. Additional numerical and parametric results are developed to present the influences of modified boundary conditions, NS and MS formulations, gradation parameters, elastic foundations coefficients, porosity type and porosity coefficient on the static response of BDFG porous plate. The following model can be used in design and analysis of BDFG structure used in aerospace, vehicle, dental, bio-structure, civil and nuclear structures.
In this paper, an analytical procedure based on the perturbation technique is presented to study the free vibrations of annular viscoelastic plates by considering the first order shear deformation theory as the displacement field. The viscoelastic properties obey the standard linear solid model. The equations of motion are extracted for small deflection assumption using the Hamilton's principle. These equations which are a system of partial differential equations with variable coefficients are solved analytically with the perturbation technique. By using a new variable change, the governing equations are converted to equations with constant coefficients which have the analytical solution and they are appropriate especially to study the sensitivity analysis. Also the natural frequencies are calculated using the classical plate theory and finite elements method. A parametric study is performed and the effects of geometry, material and boundary conditions are investigated on the vibrational behavior of the plate. The results show that the first order shear deformation theory results is more closer than to the finite elements with respect to the classical plate theory for viscoelastic plate. The more results are summarized in conclusion section.
Three dimensional solutions for free vibrations analysis of functionally graded fiber reinforced cylindrical panel are presented, using differential quadrature method (DQM). The orthotropic panel is simply supported at the edges and is assumed to have an arbitrary variation of reinforcement volume fraction in the radial direction. Suitable displacement functions that identically satisfy the simply supported boundary condition are used to reduce the equilibrium equations to a set of coupled ordinary differential equations with variable coefficients, which can be solved by differential quadrature method to obtain natural frequencies. The main contribution of this work is presenting useful results for continuous grading of fiber reinforcement in the thickness direction of a cylindrical panel and comparison with similar discrete laminate composite ones. Results indicate that significant improvement is found in natural frequency of a functionally graded fiber reinforced composite panel due to the reduction in spatial mismatch of material properties.
In this research, the dynamic stability of an orthotropic elastic conical shell, with elasticity moduli and density varying in the thickness direction, subject to a uniform external pressure which is a power function of time, has been studied. After giving the fundamental relations, the dynamic stability and compatibility equations of a nonhomogeneous elastic orthotropic conical shell, subject to a uniform external pressure, have been derived. Applying Galerkin's method, these equations have been transformed to a pair of time dependent differential equations with variable coefficients. These differential equations are solved using the method given by Sachenkov and Baktieva (1978). Thus, general formulas have been obtained for the dynamic and static critical external pressures and the pertinent wave numbers, critical time, critical pressure impulse and dynamic factor. Finally, carrying out some computations, the effects of the nonhomogeneity, the loading speed, the variation of the semi-vertex angle and the power of time in the external pressure expression on the critical parameters have been studied.
