Efficient Interference Alignment for Uplink MIMO/FDD Systems with Limited Feedback (제한된 궤환 채널 기반 상향링크 MIMO/FDD 시스템에서의 효율적인 간섭 정렬 기법)

  • Assuming perfect channel state information (CSI), the conventional interference alignment (IA) algorithm in the uplink cellular system suppresses inter-cell interference (ICI) by aligning ICI to a randomly selected reference vector. However, IA in practice relies on limited feedback between base stations and users, resulting in residual ICI. In this paper, we propose the optimization of the reference vector that minimizes the upper-bound of residual ICI power. Secondly, the iterative IA that designs the direction of transmit and receive filter is proposed to minimize the residual ICI as well as maximize the desired signals. Moreover, we propose the user scheduling method combined with proposed IA schemes which provides the multiuser diversity gain in multi-cell environments. Finally, the performance gain of the proposed IA algorithms compared with the existing IA are analyzed and demonstrated by simulation results.

  • The Korea Augmentation Satellite System (KASS), which is under development in Korea as a Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) is expected to broadcast SBAS messages to air space in Korea according to the international standards defined by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics (RTCA). Around 13 SBAS messages are broadcast in every second to transmit augmentation information which can be applicable to a wide area in common. Each of the messages requires a different update interval and time-out according to the characteristics, purpose, and importance of transmitted information, and users should receive and combine multiple SBAS messages to calculate SBAS augmented information. Thus, a time to take acquiring first SBAS position by users differs depending on broadcasting various SBAS messages with which order and intervals. The present paper analyzes the considerations on message scheduling for broadcasting of KASS augmentation information and proposes a design of KASS message scheduler using the considerations. Compared to existing SBAS systems, which have a wide range of service area, a service area of the KASS is limited to Korea only. Thus, the numbers of ionosphere grid points and satellites to be augmented are expected to be smaller than those of existing SBAS. By reflecting this characteristic to the proposed design, shortening of broadcast interval of KASS message is verified compared to existing SBAS and a measure to increase a speed of acquisition of user navigation solution is proposed utilizing remaining message slots. The simulation result according to the proposed measure showed that the maximum broadcast interval can be reduced by up to 20% compared to that of existing SBAS, and users can acquire KASS position solution faster than existing SBAS.

A Resource Information Model for High Performance GRID Environemnts (고성능 그리드 환경을 위한 자원정보모델에 관한 연구)

  • For high performance Grid environments, an effective GIS(Grid Information System) should be adopted. In the design of GIS architecture, its grid resource information model provides a key basis. This paper presents our study on the exploration of a high performance grid resource information model. According the exploration, we identified the followings. The resource information model should clearly address the issues of relation descriptions as well as resource descriptions, issues related to scheduling support, the issue of decoupling the expression model of resource information from data repository models, and finally the issue of decoupling user-level resource descriptions from system-level resource descriptions. Based on the proposed conceptual organization of resource information models, analysis result for the existing resource information models are presented.

  • Linear scheduling method limits to present works of work breakdown structure as a form of lines and was often developed manually. In other words, linear schedule could not utilize activity, work breakdown structure, and etc. information of network schedule such as CPM(Critical Path Method) and has been used only for reporting or confirming construction master plan. Therefore, it is necessary to develop system which can automatically generating the linear schedule based on the network schedule having many accumulated and useful construction schedule information. Thus, this research has an effort to establish data process model, data flow diagram, and data model in order to make linear schedule. In addition, this research addresses the system solution structure, user interface class diagram and logic diagram, and data type schema. The results of this paper can be used as a preliminary research for developing linear schedule generating system prototype by utilizing the network schedule information.

Dynamic Stream Merging Scheme for Reducing the Initial Latency Time and Enhancing the Performance of VOD Servers (VOD 서버의 초기 대기시간 최소화와 성능 향상을 위한 동적 스트림 합병 기법)

  • A VOD server, which is the central component for constructing VOD systems, requires to provide high bandwidth and continuous real-time delivery. It is also necessary to the sophisticated disk scheduling and data placement schemes in VOD sewers. One of the most common problem facing in such a system is the high initial latency time to service multiple users concurrently. In this paper, we propose a dynamic stream merging scheme for reducing the initial latency time in VOD servers. The proposed scheme allows clients to merge streams on a request as long as their requests fall within the reasonable time interval. The basic idea behind the dynamic stream merging is to merge multiple streams into one by increasing the frame rate of each stream. In the performance study, the proposed scheme can reduce the initial latency time under the minimum buffer use and also can enhance the performance of the VOD server with respect to the capacity of user admission.

Time-slice Donation Technique for Improving the Performance of IPC in Linux (Linux의 IPC 성능 향상을 위한 타임 슬라이스 공여 기법)

  • Inter-process communication (IPC), which is a technique that enables exchanging data among multiple processes, is commonly used not only in user applications but also in system processes. For this reason, the performance of IPC highly influences the performance of whole computer system. Especially, heavy overload on a single server process caused by IPC requests from multiple client processes, easily results overall slowdown of IPC response time. Here, to deal with the problem stated above, the time-slice donation technique which is adapted in L4 microkernel is analyzed and enhanced for reducing latency of IPC response time and implemented on linux kernel for actual performance evaluation. While trying to maintain the additional overhead as least as possible, the experiment shows that the use of this technique enhances the performance of IPC multiple times of existing technique under certain circumstances.

  • With the rapid growth of the Internet, popular Web sites are visited so frequently that these cannot be constructed with a single server or mirror site of high performance. The rapid increase of Internet uses and uses raised the problems of overweighted transmission traffic and difficult load balancing. To solve these, various schemes of server clustering have been surveyed. Especially, in order to fully utilize the performance of computer systems in a cluster, a good scheduling method that distributes user requests evenly to servers in required. In this paper, we propose a new method for reducing the service latency. In our method, each Web server in the cluster has different content. This helps to reduce the complexity of load balancing algorithm and the service latency The Web server that received a request from the load balancer responds to the client directly without passing through the load balancer. Simulation studies show that our method performs better than other traditional methods. In terms of response time, our method shows shorter latency than RR (Round Robin) and LC (Least Connection) by about 16%, 14% respectively.

  • Caching in a cache sorrel cluster environment has an advantage that minimizes the request and response tine of internet traffic and web user. Then, one of the methods that increases the hit ratio of cache is using the hash function with cooperative caching. It is keeping a fixed size of the total cache memory regardless of the number of cache servers. On the contrary, if there is no cooperative caching, the total size of cache memory increases proportional to the number of cache sowers since each cache server should keep all the cache data. The disadvantage of hashing method is that clients' requests stress a few servers in all the cache servers due to the characteristics of hashing md the overall performance of a cache server cluster depends on a few servers.   • Most work on multimedia storage systems has assumed that client will be serviced using a round-robin strategy. The server services the clients in rounds and each client is allocated a time slice within that round. Furthermore, most such algorithms are evaluated on the basis of a tightly coupled cost function. This is the basis of well-known algorithm such as FCFS, SCAN, SCAN-EDF, etc. In this paper, we describe a scheduling module called Request Unifier(RU) that takes as input, a set of client request, and a set of constraints on the desired performance such as client waiting time or maximum disk bandwidth, and a cost function. It produces as output a Unified Read Request(URR), telling the storage server which data items to read and when these data items to be delivered to the clients. Given a cost function, a URR is optimal if there is no other URR satisfying the constraints with a lower cost. We present three algorithms in this paper that can accomplish this kind of request merging and compare their performance through an experimental evaluation.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient video block Placement scheme that utilize the current disk product that has MZR disk characteristic and users' skewed access pattern on VOD. Also, we evaluate its performance through simulation and modeling of VOD server. The basic placement rule is to place on MZR disks by LP, SHP methods according to the Zipf distribution of popularity. To verify the proposed scheme, we examined its performance on workstation with 2 MZR disks under varied skewed factors. The proposed placement scheme showed better response time than the random method. To extend proposed placement scheme to disk group, we analyzed the theoretical maximum numbers of concurrent users and the required buffer size per user. For performance parameters for the proposed scheme, we considered the disk head scheduling methods, the placement methods and the striping unit. The result of experiments showed that the proposed scheme was effective.
