Understanding the Concept of User Experience Based on the Extended Concept of Usability

  • Objective: This study presents the conceptual framework and the conceptual model to account for user experience by expanding the existing concepts of usability, in particular considering the user-interface environment in digital convergence. Background: To better understand a variety of users interacting with a converged product based on digital technologies, there seems to be a limit to consider the existing concepts of usability. All possible aspects of user's interaction with a product in a context of use need to be taken into consideration. Method: This study identifies the concept of user experience through a comprehensive literature review. Results: First, this study reviews the existing concepts of usability and user experience. And then this study describes four main components in the conceptual framework of user experience: user's internal states, user's external states, a product, and various outcomes, each of which encompasses distinct sub-components. The conceptual model of user experience accounts for how user's internal states change over time and for how different sub-components affect actual behavior of use. Conclusion: It is expected that these user experience concepts can be used in basic resources to better understand different behavioral characteristics of users and to better design interactive products in converged digital environments.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze about the extension of user experience in the digital space. Through the digital technology and virtual space, the city's new environment is being changed. it makes people activate their aesthetic experience. Simultaneously, it elevates satisfaction levels regarding people's aesthetic experience. Research methods and settings of the range to study on the Extension of User Experience are as follows: First, establish digital space's characteristics comparing digital space at the structural change-points in modern society. Second, experience's approch way through the digital media in the contemporary space. And understand the concept about a variety of User Experience. Third. to classify the elements of access control for the user experience. Experience is being expanded through the generation process. Fourth, investigate analysis of the case studies, focused on the architecture and space design_Media installations that appear in the city park, the city's landmark buildings facade, the building facade by offering commercially applied for brand marketing_ announced through the media recently. Also, it is to look at the physical elements through digital media and to analyze the applicability of the public space. Therefore, the new approach to digital implementation shall be determined by looking in the direction of the user approaches.

Investigating Key User Experience Factors for Virtual Reality Interactions

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate key user experience factors of interactions for Head Mounted Display (HMD) devices in the Virtual Reality Environment (VRE). Background: Virtual reality interaction research has been conducted steadily, while interaction methods and virtual reality devices have improved. Recently, all of the virtual reality devices are head mounted display based ones. Also, HMD-based interaction types include Remote Controller, Head Tracking, and Hand Gesture. However, there is few study on usability evaluation of virtual reality. Especially, the usability of HMD-based virtual reality was not investigated. Therefore, it is necessary to study the usability of HMD-based virtual reality. Method: HMD-based VR devices released recently have only three interaction types, 'Remote Controller', 'Head Tracking', and 'Hand Gesture'. We search 113 types of research to check the user experience factors or evaluation scales by interaction type. Finally, the key user experience factors or relevant evaluation scales are summarized considering the frequency used in the studies. Results: There are various key user experience factors by each interaction type. First, Remote controller's key user experience factors are 'Ease of learning', 'Ease of use', 'Satisfaction', 'Effectiveness', and 'Efficiency'. Also, Head tracking's key user experience factors are 'Sickness', 'Immersion', 'Intuitiveness', 'Stress', 'Fatigue', and 'Ease of learning'. Finally, Hand gesture's key user experience factors are 'Ease of learning', 'Ease of use', 'Feedback', 'Consistent', 'Simple', 'Natural', 'Efficiency', 'Responsiveness', 'Usefulness', 'Intuitiveness', and 'Adaptability'. Conclusion: We identified key user experience factors for each interaction type through literature review. However, we did not consider objective measures because each study adopted different performance factors. Application: The results of this study can be used when evaluating HMD-based interactions in virtual reality in terms of usability.

웹 인터페이스에서 Parallax Scrolling 기법 활용에 따른 사용자 경험 연구 (A Study of User Experience from Parallax Scrolling Use on the Web Interface)

  • In this paper, we compared the user experience according to utilize parallax scrolling technique in web site. For this purpose, we divided subjects into two groups. The subjects of Group1 were given to use web site interface with Parallax scrolling and the Group2 were given to use web site interface with non Parallax scrolling. Then, All Subjects answered the questionnaire of user experience. User experience were evaluated by four entries as Novelty, Esthetics, Usage of Satisfaction, Cheerfulness. Consequently. As a result, the web site interface with Parallax scrolling showed significantly higher score of Novelty, Esthetics, Cheerfulness than the web site interface with non-Parallax scrolling. In this study. we proved that using the parallax scrolling technique in web site interface improves the overall user experience, and suggested to apply as a way to advance the attention and persistency on creating a web site.

User Experience Measurement for Senior Friendly Product

  • Objective: This study introduces user experience measurement and its application for senior friendly products. Background: Measuring user experience for senior friendly product is very important for its design, but the measurement is not easy. Method: This study was focused on case studies for user experience measurement and its application for senior friendly product. Mobile patient lift and four wheeled walker that assist the old's mobility were studied. User experience was measured through interview and observation method. Result: From measuring the user experience, some usability issues were identified for the products. A method to apply QFD(quality function deployment) in design process was proposed. A design prototype was also developed considering user experience. Conclusion: User experience measurement for senior friendly products is key process for user centered design. Application: The method and result of this study can be applied to user experience measurement and design of senior friendly product.

The Relationship between User's Emotions and the overall Satisfaction of the Product

  • Due to recent interest in user experience and its significance, much research surrounding this theme is now being conducted. If user experience is defined as the emotions and satisfaction the user feels while using the product, how much of such experience will contribute to the overall satisfaction of using the product? In this research, user experience during usage of a product and the satisfaction acquired by it were investigated. The same experiment was conducted in South Korea and the United States of America in order to get more generalized experimental results. Amongst the six representative user emotions expressed while using a product, 'Satisfaction in Usability', 'Discomfort or Displeasure', and 'Excellence' correlated the most. The above three factors were found to be of the most influence concerning satisfaction of the product. The significance of this finding is that aside from focusing on the attractiveness of the product's exteriors and design, one should be concerned on the ease of usage and effectiveness as well as usability of the product, all of which contribute to how efficiently a consumer will utilize the product.

스마트폰의 UI(User Interface) 경험이 제품태도와 구매의도에 미치는 영향 (The effects of UI(user interface) experience on product attitude and purchase intention for smartphones)

  • 디지털 미디어 시대에는 사용자 인터페이스(User Interface)에 대한 중요성이 날로 커지고 있으며, 사용자 경험에 대한 인식이 높아지고 있다. 이러한 현실을 감안하여 본 연구에서는 스마트폰의 UI(User Interface)경험이 제품태도와 구매의도에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 확인하고자 하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 스마트폰의 UI경험은 스마트폰의 제품태도에 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 둘째, 스마트폰의 UI경험은 스마트폰의 구매의도에 부분적으로 영향을 미치고 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 마지막으로, 스마트폰에 대한 제품태도는 구매의도에 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 본 연구결과는 향후 스마트폰에 대한 마케팅 전략 수립 시 스마트폰의 UI경험들을 고려한 전략이 필요함을 시사한다. 특히 스마트폰에 대한 가치경험 보다는 주변경험 즉, 사후관리와 같은 A/S제도에 초점을 맞춘 마케팅 전략이 필요하다 하겠다. 마지막으로 소비자들의 구매의사를 높이기 위해서는 무엇보다 자사의 제품에 대한 소비자들의 태도를 긍정적으로 제고할 수 있는 마케팅 전략이 필요하다 하겠다.

TUI 환경의 유저 사용 만족도 연구 (A study on user satisfaction in TUI environment)

  • An interface in smart device environment is changing to TUI(touch user interface) environment where a system is being controlled by physical touch, differently from a system controlled through conventional mouse and keyboard. What is more important than anything else in this TUI environment is to implement interface in consideration of learn ability and cognitive constructivism according to user's experience. Therefore, now is the time when it is necessary to carry out various studies on smart content design process going a step farther together with discussing the details of user's experience factor. Hence, this study was intended to look into what effect a user's experiential traits had on the production of contents for the purpose of measures for improving TUI user satisfaction in order to effectively realize contents in smart environment. Results were yielded by using a statistical empirical analysis such as cross-tabulation analysis according to important variable and user, paired t-test, multiple response analysis, and preference frequency analysis of user preference on the basis of a survey. As a result, a system was presented for implementing DFSS(Design For Six Sigma) process. TUI experience factor can be divided into direct habitual experience, direct learning experience, indirect habitual experience, and indirect learning experience. And in the results of study, it was possible to find that the important variables of this study had a positive effect on the improvement of use satisfaction with contents on the whole according to the user convenience of smart contents. This study is expected to have a positive effect on efficient smart device-based contents production by providing objective information according to empirical analysis to smart media-based developer and designer and presenting a model for improving the changed TUI usability.

박물관 모바일 애플리케이션의 사용자 경험 프레임워크에 대한 연구 (An Investigation of the Framework for User Experience in Museum Mobile Applications)

  • 사용자가 경험할 수 있는 차원이나 경험 요소들의 특성을 이해하는 것은 박물관 모바일 애플리케이션 사용자 경험을 디자인할 때 매우 중요한 일이다. 본 논문은 박물관 모바일 애플리케이션의 사용과 관련된 경험에 대한 일련의 실험연구와 분석을 통하여 4가지 차원과 19가지 요소로 구성된 박물관 모바일 애플리케이션의 사용자 경험 프레임워크를 도출하고, 타당성도 검증하였다. 연구에 의하면 이들 4가지 사용자 경험 차원은 모두 애플리케이션 사용 만족도에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤으나 각 차원의 미치는 영향 정도는 각기 달랐다. 본 논문의 실험에서는 4가지 차원 중 사용감성과 사용편의성이 가장 큰 영향을 미치며 사용유용성과 기능다양성은 상대적으로 적은 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 또한 실험 결과를 통해 애플리케이션의 사용 경험이 사용자의 향후 추천이나 지속 사용의도, 또는 박물관의 실제 관람에 영향을 줄 수 있음을 확인하였다.

  • Purpose: This study identifies causality in IoT-based healthcare user's experience(playful experience, economical experience), trust, usage, degree of dependence and continuous use intention, especially focused on chinese case. Methods: Face to face interviews was conducted for people who has experience in the use of the Xiaomi Mi band. This study used Partial Least Square(PLS) method with the questionnaires from the interview. Results: IoT-based healthcare users taking playful experience have a strong trust in a positive economic experiences. Also, the user recognizing the experience as an economic one shows stronger intention to use continuously. Conclusion: By getting healthcare users have more economic experience, they have continuous use intention of healthcare product. The empirical findings can be applied to the related companies strategy building.
