An atomic absorption spectrophotometry analysis study of zinc, cadimium, lead, copper and mercury in human scalp hair samples of 699 subjects in 3 urban and 4 rural communities gave mean values of 170.33/187.00 ppm, 0.18/0.22 ppm, 8.43/8.62 ppm, 9.81/10.24 ppm and 2.13/1.20 ppm for male and female, respectively. The concentration did not differ significantly regardless ages. However, female was higher than male in overall concentration except that of mercury. The percentile methods was partially applied for a reference values of metals in Korean scalp hair to provide more appropriate data for further comparisons.
The purpose of this study was to investigate physical condition, physical fitness, sociodemographic factors, biochemical factors and personality factors of 5th grade students of elementary school. The number of students surveyed was 760 from each school of urban, middle and rural areas. All data analysis was done by BMI group which is based on previous study. 1) The children whose parents were on low education level and mother had a job had lower BMI values than others. Nine percent of male and 21% of female subjects skipped breakfast almost everyday. The 21.7% of all subjects regularly took nutritive pills, which had no difference in various BMI groups. 2) The physical condition of children had a high correlation with that of parents. 3) The physical fitness in BMI 5 groups was weaker than other groups, especially in male. 4) The contents of blood hemoglobin, cholesterol and glucose and hematocrit value were estimated. In female, the values of hemoglobin content and hematocrit had significant difference between BMI groups, but there are no trends. 5) The impulsiveness of male was the highest in BMI 1 group and the lowest in BMI 5 group among 5 groups. Besides, general activity, reflectivity and sociality in BMI 5 group had a low level. In female, personality factors except sociality didn't show any considerable difference.
For design of early childhood children's footwear, this study was to analyze the properties of their foot. This study was performed in 200 male and 200 female early childhood children from 3 and 6 years old lived in susan urban area. There were measured 17 items of the foot and calculated 4 indexs for analysis. The result was as follows; 1 The growth rate differs from the sites of a foot. According to the growth of age, early childhood children's foot are more slender. 2. The average of foot print angle is $15~27^{\circ}$ and it is flat. Among the age groups, the numbers of 4 kinds of foot print angle are different siginificantly. 3. The average of metatarso phalanx angle is $174~178^{\circ}$ that is higher than adults'. 4. There are no significant difference between male children's foot and female childen's one except tarsal circumference and tarsal height. Tarsal part of male children is higher and ticket than female children's. 5. Because some of 3~6 age groups belong to the one foot length group, we should consider the age properties of foot in order to design footwears. When the size of footwear is divided by only foot length, the ranges of another measurements are larger than the range of foot length.
This study investigated the effects of depression, anxiety, and impulsiveness on suicidal thoughts among adolescents with the goal of better understanding the psychological needs of adolescents and to provide them with more effective counseling and guidance. Participants for this study included 340 high school students in their first and second year living in large urban centers. Respondents answered a questionnaire that documented their experiences related to depression, anxiety, impulsiveness, and suicidal thoughts. Data analysis was performed using the means, standard deviations, correlation analysis, and multiple regression using the IBM SPSS 19.0 statistics program. The results were as follows. There was no statistically significant difference in anxiety and impulsiveness based on gender. However, female respondents demonstrated a higher rate of suicidal thoughts than male respondents. Second, in both sexes, comparative analysis between depression, anxiety, impulsiveness, and suicidal thoughts revealed that respondents with higher levels of depression and anxiety demonstrated elevated levels of suicidal thoughts. Impulsiveness demonstrated a correlation with suicidal thoughts only for female participants. Third, while depression and anxiety affected suicidal thoughts in both male and female respondents, impulsiveness did not affect suicidal thoughts, with depression having the strongest effect.
The objectives of this study are to analyze the characteristics of multi-cultural families in rural areas and to classify their types by applying multi-variate techniques and cluster analyses. Data for the study were obtained by a surveying 120 married migrant females in rural areas of Chungchengnam-do, South Korea. By utilizing the factor analysis to analyze the characteristics of multi-cultural families, 16 basic variables related to these female subjects were categorized into 6 factors: 'marriage length and age', 'language skill of migrant female', 'language skill of husband', 'family satisfaction', 'income and education', and 'general living satisfaction in Korea with remittance'. By appling the cluster analysis, multi-cultural families in rural areas were divided into the following 5 types: 'stable settlement', 'average but stagnant', 'below average yet positive', 'high- income with little communication', and 'young low-income'. In all types, it is strongly recommended to develop various programs regarding vocational education for the migrant females in order to increase their economic opportunities as well as social status.
In order to provide the basic data on an education program for successful breast-feeding, the nutrition knowledge of and attitudes toward breast-feeding and the factors associated with infant feeding decision among male and female college students were investigated. The majority of students had correct knowledge of the maternal-infant bonding through breast-feeding and knew more about baby-centered benefits than about mother-centered benefits of breast-feeding. Students' attitudes toward breast-feeding were not so positive as expected, and male students had more positive attitudes toward breast-feeding than female students had. 54.8% of students answered to practice breast-feeding longer than 3 months. Nutrition knowledge scores and attitude scores were significantly higher in the breast-feeding decision group than in the formula-feeding decision group. The students residing in a rural community decided breast-feeding significantly more than the students residing in an urban community. It was concluded that nutrition knowledge about the breast-feeding played a significant role in deciding infant feeding method. In order to increase breast-feeding decision rates among college students, the education program may need to focus on understanding of correct nutrition knowledge about the benefits of breast-feeding. Also it would be important to have male students participated in education program.
Purpose: Although concerns of female sexual dysfunction (FSD) are increasing in Korea, sexual dysfunction related factors are limited in research studies. The aim of this study was to develop an explanatory model that will further explain the continuously increasing female sexual dysfunction cases in Korea. Methods: Survey visits were conducted to four hundred and eighty five women, over 25 years of age and presently residing in either urban or rural areas. All of them were analyzed using a structured questionnaire. A total of 8 instruments were used in this model. The analysis of data was done with both SPSS WIN for descriptive statistics and AMOS 5.0 for covariance structure analysis. Results: As a result, variables that showed notably direct effects on FSD were: sexual concept (sexual attitude), sexual distress, and psychosocial health (depression, crisis, traumatic life events). On the other hand, variables such as age, educational level, economic status, and marital status showed indirect influences on health-promoting behaviors. Conclusion: By comprehensively addressing the factors related to sexual dysfunction, and comparing each influence, this study can contribute to designing an appropriate sexual dysfunction prevention strategy in tune with the particular characteristics and problems of a client.
Purpose. To analyze the refractive status between urban and rural regions, of children in Korea, in the age group of 13. Methods. From October 2016 to January 2017, forty subjects( 20 male subjects, 20 female subjects; 13 years) were performed in refraction test using the Auto-Refraction. Myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and anisometropia were defined as spherical equivalent(SE)${\leq}-0.50$ diopters, SE ${\geq}+1.00D$, cylinder error ${\geq}0.75D$ and SE difference${\geq}1.00D$ between binocular eyes, respectively. Results. The refractive error by spherical equivalent among all subjects was myopia 76.25%, astigmatism 35%, emmetropia 16.25%, anisometropia 8.75%, and hyperopia 5%. The prevalence of myopia and astigmatism were much more common in urban than rural region although the difference was not statically significant. Emmetropia and astigmatism were much more common in rural region than urban although the difference was not statically significant. The prevalence of spherical equivalent was much common from -1.00 diopter to -4.00 diopter. On the other hand, the prevalence of myopia was much more than hyperopia. There was a statistical significance between OD and OS of rural region in the spherical equivalent power(p<.000). Also, There was a statistical significance between OD and OS of urban region in the spherical equivalent power(p<.004). Therefore, there was a significant statistical similarity between urban and rural regions on the OD and OS in the spherical equivalent power. On the other hand, There was a significant statistical similarity between urban and rural regions of the OD and OS in the astigmatism power(p<0.000). However, in the rural and urban regions there was not statistical significance in the OD and OS concerning the spherical equivalent power and astigmatism power (p>0.1). Conclusions. Myopia was the most common refractive error in Korea young children. while hyperopia was few. There was not a statistical significance as age between rural and urban at spherical equivalent power( P> 0.01). These results suggested that the analysis of the refractive status at young children can give the useful diagnosis data for the correction of visual acuity.
The objectives of this study were to analyze student's nature experience and to identify relationship between nature experience and environmental attitude. This study was conducted by review of literature and mailed survey. The data were collected from purposive sampled university students. Major findings of the study were as follows; 1)The female students had more positive environmental attitude than male, and senior students had more positive environmental attitude than junior students 2)Youth from rural area showed more positive environmental attitude than those of urban area 3)The degree of nature experience was related positively with environmental attitude.
Purpose: This study was done to investigate the practice level of 14 health behaviors between male (N=139) and female (N=175) elderly and to identify the barriers to each health behavior of elderly people in Korea. Methods: Data were collected from 314 elderly people (65yr and older) living in metropolitan, urban, and rural areas. Descriptive statistics, $x^2$-test and ordinal logistic regression were used in data analysis using the SPSS Win 15 version. Results: 1) The performances were different in some health behaviors between male and female elderly people. Male elderly showed better performances in balanced diet, regular exercise, and more than 30 min of exercise, while female elderly showed better performances in restriction of fat and cholesterol, restriction on alcohol, and smoking. There were no differences in stress management and health prevention behaviors between the two groups. 2) The common significant barriers in health behaviors of the elderly in Korea were the lack of habit and physical discomfort. However, the lack of perceived benefit was a significant barrier in male elderly. Lack of time and lack of family support were significant barriers in female elderly people in Korea. Conclusion: These results suggest that tailored strategies should be developed considering the gender difference to reduce the main barriers of each health behavior in order to improve the health status of elderly people.
