  • In this study, we have Quantitatively estimated the mechanical properties of SM steels widely used in steel structures after correcting and analyzing the millsheets of the steels. From this result, in present, the mechanical properties of the steels produced in domestics have satisfied the prescribed values in Korean Standards on the whole. The mechanical properties of the steels were dependent of plate thickness and class of the steels. Also, there have been linear relations between the plate thickness and the mechanical properties of the steels. And the results of this study have shown the similar tendencies with the existing results. Because the upper limit value of yield strength are not prescribed in Korean Standards at present, it is necessary to prescribe the upper limit value of yielding ratio(or yield strength) in order to assure the deformation performance of the steels.

  • This article concerns the normal property of elements on Jacobson and nil radicals which are generalizations of commutativity. A ring is said to be right njr if it satisfies the normal property on the Jacobson radical. Similarly a ring is said to be right nunr (resp., right nlnr) if it satisfies the normal property on the upper (resp., lower) nilradical. We investigate the relations between right duo property and the normality on Jacobson (nil) radicals. Related examples are investigated in the procedure of studying the structures of right njr, nunr, and nlnr rings.

  • The Sinyangri Formation crops out in the vicinity of the Seongsan Peninsula, Cheju Island. Based on sedimentary structures, texture and composition, the lithologic sequence has been classified, in ascending stratigraphic order, into three lithofacies: parallel laminated sandstone facies (Facies I): conglomerate facies(Facies Il); and cross stratified sandstone facies (F acies Ill). Wedge-to-parallel, seaward-inclined in low angle less than 10$^{\circ}$lamina -sets with alternations of coarseand fine-grained sediments in the Facies I are the characteristic sedimentary structures in the foreshore depositional environment. Grains of this faciesare well sorted with good roundness compared with the other two facies, partly showing inverse graded bedding. Facies II,largely composed of claset-supported,very poorly-sorted conglomerates, does not pinch out but occurs continuously along the Sinyangri beach.Interstitial spaces between the clasts are mostly infilled with volcanic-ash and small amounts of well-rounded shell fragments.Maximum bed thickness as well as the size of imbedded basaltic clasts decreases to the south(toward Sinyangri). Large clasts with parallel lamination originated from the underlying Facies i,are generally elongated parallel to the bedding plane and display no systematic horizontal variations in size indicative of in-situ clasts. In view of the facts above it seems that large gravels from the basaltic rocks are transgressive lag conglomerates which are partly affected by the combination of longshore currents and propagating wave.Local occurrence of cross-strata dipping toward the south in the upper part of Facies IIreinforces the evidence of the action of longshore currents. Facies IIIis characterized by bidirectional trough cross-starifiction and wave ripples associated with the upper shoreface(surfzone) environments. In summary, the Sinyangri Formation represents the depositional environments of foreshore to upper shoreface truncated by disconformity between Facies Iand II.

  • The aim of this paper is to give a rigorous framework for the interpretation of limit analysis results including large displacements. The presentation is oriented towards unidimensional media (beams) but two-dimensional (plates) or three-dimensional media are also concerned. A single-degree-of-freedom system is first considered: it shows the basic phenomena of large displacement limit analysis or second-order limit analysis. The results are compared to those of a continuous system and the differences between both systems are discussed. Theoretical results are obtained using the kinematical approach of limit analysis. An admissible load-displacement plane is then defined, according to the yield design theory. The methodology used is applied to frame structures. The presented results are nevertheless different from those already published in the literature, as the virtual displacement field can be distinguished from the displacement field at collapse. The simplicity of large displacement limit analysis makes it attractive for practical engineering applications. The load-displacement upper bound can be used for instance in the optimal design of steel frames in seismic areas.

  • Field sampling requires statistical description to draw inferences from data. Field data, or linear structures, are commonly analyzed by the graphical presentations, such as streonets and rose diagrams. For this purpose the DROPOL program is developed to analyze the data more efficiently with personal computer. DROPOL program written in FORTRAN 77 plots the structural data in points, poles or great circle on equalarea (Schmidt net) or equal-angle (Wulff net) projection surface. It is also capable to project the data from upper or lower hemisphere of stereonet and to draw pole contour diagrams from the plotted data. The rose diagram, representing the frequency of the strike and dip angle, can also be drawn in general or smooth type using $5^{\circ}$ or $10^{\circ}$ degrees interval.

  • Optimization of a satellite structure under severe space launching environments is performed considering various design constraints. Simulate annealing, one of combinatorial optimization techniques, is used to optimize the satellite. The optimization results by the simulated annealing are compared to those by the method of modified feasible direction and genetic algorithm. Ten bar truss structure is optimized for feasibility study of the simulated annealing. Finally, the satellite structure is optimized by the simulated annealing algorithm under space environment. Weights of the satellite upper platform and propulsion module are minimized with consideration of several static and dynamic constraints. MSC/NASTRAN is used to find the static and dynamic responses. Simulated annealing has been programmed and integrated with the finite element analysis program for optimization. It is shown that the simulated annealing algorithm can be extended to the optimization of space structures.

  • This paper describes the cause and measure of road structures failures in Kangwon area for year 2006 rain fall. Localized rainfall due to abnormal climate generates rock or dirt flows in upper stream and leads, the road structure failure located on mountains terrane. Main cause of such failures erosion, debris-flow, insufficient supply of culvert drainage system in ravine areas. It is needed to enhance the design methodology of road-drainage system and the remediation technology of rock and dirt flows

  • In this paper, some theoretical equations are derived to calculate natural frequencies and their modes of a portal type derrick system and developed a computer program to carry out their calculations. The ship's structures, such as funnels, upper decks, engine structures, shaft systems suffer local vibrations of the ship. The exciting forces of vibrations are induced by the bearing force and the surface force of propeller or by the main engine. For solving the vibration problem of riggings like the derrick system the natural frequency of its system must be exactly estimated as far as possible and its resonance condition must be kept out of the normal engine operating speed range. When some severe resonances are encountered after the ship's launching, it may be required a tremendous cost to amend their condition. An experimental model of the portal type derrick is made, which is composed of two posts and a truss. This experimental model is excited by an electrical-magnet, and its vibration responses are found out. The calculating results of the model by the developed computer program are compared with those of measured values of model experiment, and they show fairly good agreements.

  • Resealed Simulated Annealing (RSA) has been devised for improving the disadvantage of Simulated Annealing (SA) which require tremendous amount of computation time. RSA and SA have been for optimization of satellite structures and for comparison of results from two algorithms. As a practical application, a satellite structure is optimized by the two algorithms. Weights of satellite upper platform and propulsion module are minimized. MSC/NASTRAN is used for the static and dynamic analysis. The optimization results of the RSA are compared with results of the classical SA. The numbers of optimization iterations could be effectively reduced by the RSA.

  • Construction of roof structure, cable suspended structure, for Pusan main stadium is adapted a lifting method that is VSL lifting system. 5 processes are practiced for erection of the roof structure including the first lifting process for erection of upper cables and the second lifting process for erection of lower cables. Since all cables of this roof structure with two open spelter sockets are determined their length, some cable were wrong length, he roof structure would be unstable. But, At complete of erection for the roof structure each cable is attained to theoretical tension force with average 4% errors.
