  • In this paper, we study nonlinear equation arising in MEMS modeling electrostatic actuation. We will prove the local and global existence of solutions of the generalized parabolic MEMS equation. We present that there exists a constant ${\lambda}^*$ such that the associated stationary problem has a solution for any ${\lambda}$ < ${\lambda}^*$ and no solution for any ${\lambda}$ > ${\lambda}^*$. We show that when ${\lambda}$ < ${\lambda}^*$ the global solution converges to its unique maximal steady-state as $t{\rightarrow}{\infty}$. We also obtain the condition for the existence of a touchdown time $T{\leq}{\infty}$ for the dynamical solution. Furthermore, there exists $p_0$ > 1, as a function of $p$, the pull-in voltage ${\lambda}^*(p)$ is strictly decreasing with respect to 1 < $p$ < $p_0$, and increasing with respect to $p$ > $p_0$.

  • This paper treats with the sub-optimal control problem of noninear systems by approximation method. This method involves the approximation by linearization which provides the sub-optimal solution of non-linear control problems. The result of this work shows that, in the problem in which the controlled plant is characterized by an ordinary differential equation of first order, the solution obtained by this method coincides with the exact solution of problem. In of case of the second or higher order systems, it is proved analytically that this method of linearization produces the sub-optimal solution of the given problem. It is also shown that the sub-optimality of solution by the method can be evaluated by introducing the upper and lower bounded performance indices. Discussion is made on the procedure with some illustrative examples whose performance indices are given in the quadratic forms.

  • Optical character recognition (OCR) automatically recognizes text in an image. OCR is still a challenging problem in computer vision. A successful solution to OCR has important device applications, such as text-to-speech conversion and automatic document classification. In this work, we analyze character recognition performance using the current state-of-the-art deep-learning structures. One is the AlexNet structure, another is the LeNet structure, and the other one is the SPNet structure. For this, we have built our own dataset that contains digits and upper- and lower-case characters. We experiment in the presence of salt-and-pepper noise or Gaussian noise, and report the performance comparison in terms of recognition error. Experimental results indicate by five-fold cross-validation that the SPNet structure (our approach) outperforms AlexNet and LeNet in recognition error.

  • An upper bound solution is obtained to perform the process analysis of hot strip rolling process. The material flows within the roll bite at various geometries and frictional conditions are obtained from finite element analysis and the typical flow pattern which is necessary to determine the kinematically admissible velocity field is assumed. From the kinematically admissible velocity field, the upper bound energy is calculated and the rolling load, angle of neutral point and forward slip ratio at various operational conditions are obtained from upper bound energy. The process analysis of above mentioned parameters at various operational conditions have provided valuable information which is hard to obtain during rolling operation and the predicted ranges of quantitive values from these analyses lie whthin the bound of actual operational data.

  • Leaky aquifer (two-aquifer) system in this study consist of an upper unconfined and a lower confined aquifer with a leaky layer between them. It is assumed that water is withdrawn from the confined aquifer of the aquifer system, the upper unconfined aquifer will be affected by the leaky aquifer separating the upper and lower aquifer. In order to analyze the leaky aquifer, the determination of hydraulic parameters is needed. In this paper, hydraulic parameters are suggested by improved SM (slope-matching) method. To know variation of groundwater head in leaky aquifer systems, an numerical scheme is made using the finite difference method. To verify the numerical scheme, its solution is compared to analytical one. The solution of them agrees well in one-dimensional system at steady-state condition. And heads of groundwader are computed upper and lower aquifer in two-dimensional system.

  • This paper aims at investigating the face stability of large-diameter underwater shield tunnels considering seepage in soft-hard uneven strata. Using the kinematic approach of limit upper-bound analysis, the analytical solution of limit supporting pressure on the tunnel face considering seepage was obtained based on a logarithmic spiral collapsed body in uneven strata. The stability analysis method of the excavation face with different soft- and hard-stratum ratios was explored and validated. Moreover, the effects of water level and burial depth on tunnel face stability were discussed. The results show the effect of seepage on the excavation face stability can be accounted as the seepage force on the excavation face and the seepage force of pore water in instability body. When the thickness ratio of hard soil layer within the excavation face exceeds 1/6D, the interface of the soft and hard soil layer can be placed at tunnel axis during stability analysis. The reliability of the analytical solution of the limit supporting pressure is validated by numerical method and literature methods. The increase of water level causes the instability of upper soft soil layer firstly due to the higher seepage force. With the rise of burial depth, the horizontal displacement of the upper soft soil decreases and the limit supporting pressure changes little because of soil arching effect.

  • In this paper, new results using bounds for the solution of the discrete Lyapunov matrix equation are proposed, and some of the existing works are generalized. The bounds obtained are advantageous in that they provide nontrivial upper bounds even when some existing results yield trivial ones.

  • In this paper, we devoted to study the existence and uniqueness of nonlinear fuzzy neutral integrodifferential equations. Moreover we study the fuzzy solution for the normal, convex, upper semicontinuous, and compactly supported interval fuzzy number. The results are obtained by using the Banach fixed-point theorem. An example is provided to illustrate the theory.

  • In this paper, we introduce and study generalized mixed operator quasi-equilibrium problems(GMQOEP) in Hausdorff topological vector spaces and prove the existence results for the solution of (GMQOEP) in compact and noncompact settings by employing 1-person game theorems. Moreover, using coercive condition, hemicontinuity of the functions and KKM theorem, we prove new results on the existence of solution for the particular case of (GMQOEP), that is, generalized mixed operator equilibrium problem (GMOEP).
