Fault detection of chemical process using observer scheme (Observer를 이용한 화학공정의 이상감지)

  • This paper presents a fault detection strategy that discriminates the faulty sensor and that detects the component fault using a bank of observers for the system in which sensor fault and component fault can occur simultaneously. Observers as many as the number of measurements are designed, and each observer uses measurements excluding sequentially one measurement, to estimate the state variables. The faulty sensor can be found out by comparing each state variable from different observer. Next, component fault can be detected by using measurements from the sensors excluding the faulty sensor. The suggested strategy is applied to a nonisothermal, series reaction with unknown reaction kinetics in a CSTR. This strategy is found out to perform well even in the case that the sensor and component fault occur simultaneously. Since each observer is designed to be independent of reaction kinetics, this strategy is not affected by the model uncertainty and nonlinearity of the reaction kinetics.

  • This paper describes a DR construction for land navigation and the sigma point based receding horizon Kalman FIR (SPRHKF) filter for DR/GPS hybrid navigation system. A simple DR construction is adopted to improve the performance both of the pure land DR navigation and the DR/GSP hybrid navigation system. In order to overcome the flaws of the EKF, the SPKF is merged with the receding horizon strategy. This filter has several advantages over the EKF, the SPKF, and the RHKF filter. The advantages include the robustness to the system model uncertainty, the initial estimation error, temporary unknown bias, and etc. The computational burden is reduced. Especially, the proposed filter works well even in the case of exiting the unmodeled random walk of the inertial sensors, which can be occurred in the MEMS inertial sensors by temperature variation. Therefore, the SPRHKF filter can provide the navigation information with good quality in the DR/GPS hybrid navigation system for land navigation seamlessly.

  • This paper is devoted to investigating direct adaptive neural control of nonlinear systems with uncertain or unknown dynamic models. In the direct adaptive neural networks control area, theoretical issues of the existing backpropagation-based adaptive neural networks control schemes. The major contribution is proposing the variable index control approach, which is of great significance in the control field, and applying it to derive new stable robust adaptive neural network control schemes. This new schemes possess inherent robustness to system model uncertainty, which is not required to satisfy any matching condition. To demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed leaning algorithms and direct adaptive neural networks control schemes, intensive computer simulations were conducted based on the flexible joint robot systems and functions.

  • An automatic measurement system of high value resistance standards($10M{\Omega}$ and $1G{\Omega}$) was developed. A system has been assembled with programmable do calibrators in two of the arms. An electrometer is used to measure the difference in currents flowing through the remaining two arms of the bridge consisting of unknown and standard resistors. Type A standard uncertainty was 2ppm in the $10M{\Omega}$, 1 ppm in the $1G{\Omega}$.

  • In this paper, dynamic modeling and adaptive control problems for a space robot system are discussed. The space robot consist of a robot manipulator mounted on a free-floating base where no attitude control is applied. Using an extended robot model, the entire space robot can be viewed as an under-actuated robot system. Based on nonlinear control theory, the extended space robot model can then be decomposed into two subsystems: one is input-output exactly linearizable, and the other is unlinearizable and represents an internal dynamics. With this decomposition, a normal form-augmentation approach and an augmented state-feedback control are proposed to facilitate the design of adaptive control for the space robot system against parameter uncertainty, unknown dynamics and unmodeled payload in space applications. We demonstrate that under certain conditions, the entire space robot can be represented as a full-actuated robot system to avoid the inclusion of internal dynamics. Based on the dynamic model, we propose an adaptive control scheme using Cartesian space representation and demonstrate its validity and design procedure by a simulation study.

  • This paper proposes a nonlinear adaptive controller based on back-stepping method for tracking reference substrate concentration by manipulating dilution rate in a continuous baker´s yeast cultivating process in stirred tank bioreactor. Control law is obtained from Lyapunov control function to ensure asymptotical stability of the system. The Haldane model for the specific growth rate depending on only substrate concentration is used in this paper. Due to the uncertainty of specific growth rate, it has been modified as a function including the unknown parameter with known bounded values.   • The analysis of the two-tone intermodulation distortion of multistage two-ports with gain and mismatching losses is presented with simplified two-port analyses and statistical viewpoint. The uncertainty obtained from unknown phase angles of the intermodulation distortion signals to the system designer is reduced using stochastic process, hence improving the accuracy of the solution. Based on the dc power dependance of third-order intercept point of each stage, the new efficient method for improving the total intercept point is also suggested with only the relation of dc power and available power gain criteria. Experimental verification on specific amplifiers used for cellular mobile communication comparing predicted and measured intercept points for various power conditions is presented.

  • In this paper, a model reference adaptive control (MRAC) scheme is applied for the precise and robust motion control of a pneumatic system with load variation. The reference model for MRAC is designed systematically using linear quadratic Gaussian control with loop transfer recovery (LQG/LTR). The sigmoid function of inverse velocity is used to compensate for the nonlinear friction force between the sliding parts. The experimental results show that MRAC effectively overcame the limit of the PID controller when there was unknown disturbance, including abrupt load variation and model uncertainty in the pneumatic control system.

  • This paper presents a decentralized model reference adaptive control scheme for an interconnected continuous linear system composed of a number of single input single output subsystems. The scheme can treat the unknown strengh of interconnections as well as the uncertainty of subsystems. The scheme automatically adjusts the local feedback gains so that the output of each subsystem exponetially tracks that of the reference model.
