  • The purposes of this study were to examine the fashion adopted by young women in the United States in the 1970s and to explore how the dynamic shifts toward feminist values influenced those fashion trends. Fifteen American women who were college students in the 1970s were interviewed for the study. Throughout the decade, casual and comfortable styles became more prevalent; for example, pants became widely accepted for formal occasions as well as informal occasions due to an overall emphasis on practicality. The feminist and civil rights movements along with more liberal attitudes toward religion were among the more dominant cultural values that influenced the respondents' choices in clothing styles. Feminist presentation was diverse extreme or eclectic - and constantly renegotiating itself. This study helped us better understand the dynamics involved between fashion and value changes as well as the influence of feminism on the 1970s fashion in the United States.

  • The world mobile service is growing sharply and became bigger market than wired. So it is very needed to find the political way to promote mobile industry. The United States government recently decided to introduce new mobile policies for promoting mobile industry. Until now the telecommunications policies of the United States have affected policy developments for many countries including Korea. In this context, we studied the validity of introducing new mobile policies of the United States in Korea. We found that new mobile policies can cause the change of mobile market environment; mobile market power will be dispersed from network to content, application and devise, and new mobile market environment where consumers freely select and use network as well as content, application and devise will be made. Also we found empirically that if new policies are introduced in Korea, mobile industry will be promoted as Korean consumers use mobile services and goods quite actively in new mobile market. We think our results provide reasonable evidence to introduce new mobile policies in Korea.

  • United States has extended the extraterritorial application of U.S. Antitrust Law in 1990s. First, The U.S. Federal Supreme Court declared in Hartford Fire Insurance Co. v. California that the extraterritorial application of U.S. Antitrust Law is according to Effect Doctrine. Therefore, U.S. Antirust Division and FTC will continue to base their assertions of juridiction on the test of direct, substantial and foreseeable effects on U.S. interests. Second, U.S. Antitrust Law apply to foreign conduct that such conduct has direct, substantial and reasonably foreseeable effect on U.S. domestic or import commerce and export commerce. Third, United States has extended the extraterritorial application of U.S. Antitrust Law on international licensing contract or international merger. Forth, United States impose criminal responsbility of U.S. Antitrust Law on the foreign anticompetitive conduct. Therefore, our government and industries must consider the corresponding stratigies against the extension of the extraterritorial application of U.S. Antitrust Law.

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate and analyse the relationship between Chinese price and the price of Korea, United States, and Japan. First of all, We test for a unit-root for stability of variable. This paper employs GPH cointegration test since the model must be stationary to get the accurate predicted values. The empirical results show that the model is mean-reverting. This paper also applies impulse-response functions to the model. The empirical results show that the price of Korea, United States, and Japan respond positively to the shocks in Chinese price and then decay slowly.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the impact of acculturation level and individualism/collectivism on shopping behaviors such as' informational influences, shopping orientations, and store patronage of Asian ethnic groups residing in the United States. A total of 129 Asian adults residing in North Carolina State of the U.S. completed questionnaires. Results showed statistically significant differences in responses to an informational influence (i.e., media source) and two shopping orientation subscales (i.e., shopping confusion in the Us. and personalized shopping) between low- and high-acculturated groups. A significant difference was found between the individualistic group and the collectivistic group on three shopping orientation subscales. Due to the potential importance of considering both acculturation and individualism/collectivism when looking at shopping behaviors, four groups were created by categorizing respondents on the basis of their acculturation level and individualism/collectivism scores. Comparison on shopping orientations and informational influences by four groups revealed statistically significant differences in response to two shopping orientation subscales and two patronage behavior subscales.

  • Generally, the same quality tobacco may give similar concentration of each chemical component. This research investigation was studied to obtain the differences in concentrations of volatile oil compounds in physically similar tobacco produced in different environment and managements-in Korea and in the United States. The flue-cured leaf tobacco produced in Korea and America was regraded to B3L and P3L by American grading system and analyzed for volatile oils relating to tobacco flavor and aroma. Sixty compounds of the more than 100 peaks distinguishable on the total neutral volatile oils were identified by G5-MS and quantified. Their concentrations are compared between B3 L and P3L produced in Korea and in the United States. The most volatile oil concentrations of B3 L and P3L grade tobacco arc higher in American than in Korean. Only a few components such as benzaldehyde, pulegonc, 4, 6, 9 - megastigmatriene - 3 - one, and coumaran are less in American.

  • This study explores whether there are differences in financial structure and governmental support between social service organizations and other nonprofit organizations. In addition, it analyzes what factors are related to governmental supports for both types of nonprofit organizations. Guided by the argument that specific areas where nonprofits primarily operate can explain a difference of relations between nonprofit organizations and funders, this study compares revenue sources and expenditures of social service organizations and other nonprofit organizations in the United States. Also, based on resource dependence theory and taking some important indexes from financial ratio analysis, this study also identifies factors that affect governmental supports for nonprofit organizations. The study sample consists of 10,690 organizations that reported tax form 990 in 1996. Binary logistic regression analysis was conducted for the study. The results show that social service organizations obtained more revenue from government than other nonprofit organizations. Also, logistic regression analysis suggests that revenue diversification and financial characteristics were significantly associated with governmental supports for nonprofit organizations in the United States.
