An open water rudder test was carried out to figure out the flow characteristics around a twin rudder at $Re=1.5\times10^4$. In the analysis, the unique characteristics of a twin rudder, which effects rudder farces, were explained. The analysis is included varying angles of attack fram 10 to 30 degree. In this paper, the measured results has been compared with each other to predict the performance characteristics of a twin rudder's 2-dimensional section by 2-frame grey level cross correlation PIV method. The side force of the rudder could be mainly improved at 0.75L.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the fashion item of the symbolic fashion icons in the 20th century. The symbolism of fashion icons was grouped into four classes according to the influence of a social-cultural change. 1. Icons between dream and reality: A dreary emotion that was caused by material richness has a longing for an ideal image. A typical style was Art Nouveau style, which pressed into a grotesque S-bend. While as the world placed on a economic reconstruction after World War I, rational fashion icon which pursued more function and simplify than cumbersome style and complexity came out. 2. Icons between solid and liquid: A solid icons was connected with a mode of female body during World War 1. This extremely stylized female figure. Flowing fabrics enveloped the stylized female figure and they brought a liquid icons into relief. 3. Icons between uniformity and variety: At a time when uniformity was appeared strongly within 20th century is during World War II and about 1940-1950. The uniformal icon was classified into uniformity by uniform and by mass production. A repugnance for the uniformity and imitation of fashion was tried a new fashion style. It could be called with the various of fashion icon. 4. Icons between social secession and rediscovery: In 1950-1960, 1970-1990, and the end of 20th century, the advent of the young culture was born a consumer who newly breaks in fashion. It could be included within the domain of social secession icon. While the rediscovery of fashion icon was associated with experimental new fibers, leotard, suitable replacement for wool or acrylic knit, silk that could stretch in any direction, new fabrics that were transparent, took color beautifully, and could be painted, tie-dyed, or embroidered.

The inlet/outlet flow in the tube-side of the shell and tube heat exchanger was experimentally measured to investigate the effect of the porous baffle on uniform flow distribution. A 1/3rd scale-downed model of a heat exchanger was used and particle image velocimetry was applied for measuring the instantaneous velocity vector fields. The absolute errors in the flow rate were calculated and compared for the tube-side with and without the porous baffle, by varying the flow rate from 60 to 90 LPM. The results revealed that the porous baffle can improve flow uniformity and reduce the absolute error in the flow rate of the model with the baffle by about 74%, compared to that without the baffle. This result can be used for improving the performance and design of the shell and tube heat exchanger.

In this study, the visualization of the unsteady flow field of a Weis-Fogh-type water turbine was investigated using particle-image velocimetry. The visualization experiments were performed in a parameter range that provided relatively high-efficiency wing conditions, that is, at a wing opening angle ${\alpha}=40^{\circ}$ and at a velocity ratio of the uniform flow to the moving wing U/V = 1.5~2.5. The flow fields at the opening, translational, and closing stages were investigated for each experimental parameter. In the opening stage, the fluid was drawn in between the wing and wall at a velocity that increased with an increase in the opening angle and velocity ratio. In the translational stage, the fluid on the pressure face of the wing moved in the direction of the wing motion, and the boundary layer at the back face of the wing was the thinnest and had a velocity ratio of 2.0. In the closing stage, the fluid between the wing and wall was jetted at a velocity that increased as the opening angle decreased; however, the velocity was independent of the velocity ratio.

Multilayer mirrors are very useful for applications of high energy X-ray. X-rays of high energy require very small thickness, a few nanometers, in the d-spacing of a multilayer mirror. Each layer is composed of a multilayr mirror influences to interfacial roughness or interdiffusion which gives rise to degrade specular reflection. Carbon layer of 1 nm thick in a C/W multilayer mirror of 3.25 nm d-spacing was examined. Carbon as well as tungsten layers were very uniform, and there was no micro-structure in carbon layers. However, interdiffusion between carbon and tungste layers was observed by a transmission electron microscope.

Single system image(SSI) have been the mainstay high-performance computing for many years. SSI requires the integration and aggregation of all types of resources in a cluster to present a single interface to users. In this paper, we describe a cluster computing architecture with the concept of single process space(SPS) where all processes share a uniform process identification scheme. With SPS, a process on any node can create child process on the same or different node or communicate with any other process on a remote node, as if they are on a single node. For this purpose, SPS is built with the support of unique cluster-wide pid, signal forwarding, and remote fork. We propose a novel design of SPS cluster which addresses the scalability and flexibility problem of traditional clusterwidely unique pid implementation by using blocked pid assignment. We have implemented this new design of SPS cluster, and we demonstrate its performance by comparing it to Beowulf distributed process space. Benchmark performance results show that our design of SPS cluster realized both scalability and flexibility that are essential to building SPS cluster.

Due to recent development of high temperature high pressure(HTHP) diamond synthetic and treatment technology, we need to identify the natural diamonds fast, reliable, and economically. We proposed using new method of UV fluorescence and X-ray Lang topography imaging for distinguishing one synthetic diamond from four natural colored diamonds. We observe unique local stress field uneven image in synthetic diamond using UV fluorescence and Lang topography characterization, while uniform images in natural diamonds. Especially, X-ray Lang method offered the better identification power with better high resolution on stress field images.

Multi-index hashing (MIH) is the state-of-the-art method for indexing binary codes, as it di-vides long codes into substrings and builds multiple hash tables. However, MIH is based on the dataset codes uniform distribution assumption, and will lose efficiency in dealing with non-uniformly distributed codes. Besides, there are lots of results sharing the same Hamming distance to a query, which makes the distance measure ambiguous. In this paper, we propose a data-oriented multi-index hashing method (DOMIH). We first compute the covariance ma-trix of bits and learn adaptive projection vector for each binary substring. Instead of using substrings as direct indices into hash tables, we project them with corresponding projection vectors to generate new indices. With adaptive projection, the indices in each hash table are near uniformly distributed. Then with covariance matrix, we propose a ranking method for the binary codes. By assigning different bit-level weights to different bits, the returned bina-ry codes are ranked at a finer-grained binary code level. Experiments conducted on reference large scale datasets show that compared to MIH the time performance of DOMIH can be improved by 36.9%-87.4%, and the search accuracy can be improved by 22.2%. To pinpoint the potential of DOMIH, we further use near-duplicate image retrieval as examples to show the applications and the good performance of our method.

Here we present a simple flame detection method for an infrared (IR) thermal camera based real-time fire surveillance digital signal processor (DSP) system. Infrared thermal cameras are especially advantageous for unattended fire surveillance. All-weather monitoring is possible, regardless of illumination and climate conditions, and the data quantity to be processed is one-third that of color videos. Conventional IR camera-based fire detection methods used mainly pixel-based temporal correlation functions. In the temporal correlation function-based methods, temporal changes in pixel intensity generated by the irregular motion and spreading of the flame pixels are measured using correlation functions. The correlation values of non-flame regions are uniform, but the flame regions have irregular temporal correlation values. To satisfy the requirement of early detection, all fire detection techniques should be practically applied within a very short period of time. The conventional pixel-based correlation function is computationally intensive. In this paper, we propose an IR camera-based simple flame detection algorithm optimized with a compact embedded DSP system to achieve early detection. To reduce the computational load, block-based calculations are used to select the candidate flame region and measure the temporal motion of flames. These functions are used together to obtain the early flame detection algorithm. The proposed simple algorithm was tested to verify the required function and performance in real-time using IR test videos and a real-time DSP system. The findings indicated that the system detected the flames within 5 to 20 seconds, and had a correct flame detection ratio of 100% with an acceptable false detection ratio in video sequence level.
This study is intended to develop the creative and high value-added products as well as the development of diversity for jump suit for the future by analyzing the trend and feature shown in jump suit in the modern fashion. In the research methodology, the analysis was carried out over a total of 351 work pieces on jump suit among those presented in the collection of Paris, Milan, New York and London from 2006S/S to 2013F/W as well as literature review. The aesthetic features on suit jump design introduced in the modern fashion could be characterized as the following. First, both upper and lower garments are composed with a simple array of items and the stress was put on modernity feature through minimal expression technique. The feature of solid simplicity was also given with achromatic color or neutral monochrome. Second, the feminity image was emphasized with adoption of such highlighting items as detailed add-ons, tops, camisoles and blouses that stress the organically curved streamline including silhouette, material itself, crease and drape that enable the direct and indirect exposition of human body and the expression of smooth curve in human body. Third, jump suit revealed the multipurpose feature as item available for the diverse wear such as working habiliment, sports wear, uniform, office wear and evening wear, depending on the terms and conditions. Fourth, the deconstructive characteristic appeared through integration with various items, destruction of formative structure, non-structural shape, and ambiguity in wearing method.
