Prediction of Steady Performance of a Propeller by Using a Potential-Based Panel Method (포텐셜을 기저로한 패널법에 의한 프로펠러의 정상 성능 해석)

  • This paper describes a potential-based panel method for the prediction of steday performance of a marine propeller operating in a uniform oncoming flow. An integral equation with unknown dipole strengths is formulated by distributing the normal dipoles and/or sources on the blade and hub surfaces and the wake sheet, and is solved numerically upon discretization. A hyperboloidal panel has been adopted to compute the potential induced by a normal dipole on a non-planar quadrilateral panel. The Kutta condition is satisfied by iteratively annulling the pressure jumps at the trailing edge. Extensive convergence tests are carried out, and the influence of the wake model upon performance is studied. Predicted performance is shown to correlate well with the experiments.

The Effect of Instatoon Service Quality on Diffusion Intention through Satisfaction and Dissatisfaction Coexistence

  • Instatoon is a type of webtoons distributed through Instagram, but in the process of advancement of the webtoon industry, it shows the possibility of diversifying into a new genre that meets creativity, and diversity beyond uniform commercial webtoons. Since it does not go through a large platform, the content is freely composed. In addition, it is differentiated from other types of webtoons because in many cases artists create instatoon by adding entertaining elements into their real-life stories rather than drawing fictional ones. Furthermore, instatoons are free to enjoy, satisfaction level is high, but in most cases, even if there is a complaint, readers just enjoy webtoons without expressing it. We aimed to find out how the service quality characteristics of these instatoons affect behavioral intentions through the coexistence of satisfaction and dissatisfaction of readers, and meaninful results were found through empirical analysis. We discusses factors affecting the spread of Instatoons, including readers' satisfaction and dissatisfaction, the importance of relatability, good directing, and informativeness. The study emphasizes the need to approach maintaining existing readers and attracting new ones separately, and to manage readers effectively in the future.

Verification of multilevel octree grid algorithm of SN transport calculation with the Balakovo-3 VVER-1000 neutron dosimetry benchmark

  • Neutron transport calculations are extremely challenging due to the high computational cost of large and complex problems. A multilevel octree grid algorithm (MLTG) of discrete ordinates method was developed to improve the modeling accuracy and simulation efficiency on 3-D Cartesian grids. The Balakovo-3 VVER-1000 neutron dosimetry benchmark is calculated to verify and validate this numerical technique. A simplified S2 synthetic acceleration is used in the MLTG calculation method to improve the convergence of the source iterations. For the triangularly arranged fuel pins, we adopt a source projection algorithm to generate pin-by-pin source distributions of hexagonal assemblies. MLTG provides accurate geometric modeling and flexible fixed source description at a lower cost than traditional Cartesian grids. The total number of meshes is reduced to 1.9 million from the initial 9.5 million for the Balakovo-3 model. The numerical comparisons show that the MLTG results are in satisfactory agreement with the conventional SN method and experimental data, within the root-mean-square errors of about 4% and 10%, respectively. Compared to uniform fine meshing, approximately 70% of the computational cost can be saved using the MLTG algorithm for the Balakovo-3 computational model.

Dispersion-managed Optical Link Configured Antipodalsymmetric Dispersion Maps with Respect to Midway Optical Phase Conjugator

  • We investigated the antipodal-symmetric dispersion maps of a dispersion-managed link with a midway optical phase conjugator to compensate for the distorted 960 Gb/s wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) signal caused by these effects. The proposed antipodal-symmetric dispersion map has various shapes depending on the detailed design scheme. We confirmed that the dispersion-managed link designed with the dispersion map of the antipodal-symmetric structure is more advantageous than the conventional uniform dispersion map for compensating WDM channels. It was also confirmed that among the antipodal-symmetric structures, the dispersion map configured with the S-1-profile, in which S is inverted up and down, was more effective for distortion compensation than the dispersion map configured with the S-profile. In particular, we confirmed that the S-1-profile can broaden the optical pulse width intensively at a short transmission distance, more effectively compensating for the distorted WDM channel. Because this structure makes the intensity of the optical pulse relatively weak, it can decrease the nonlinear Kerr effect.

  • The study is to analyze the success strategies of the Cooperative Integrated Arts Activities in Seoul and to explore ways to implement it to the local public school. According to research, Cooperative Integrated Arts Activities fulfill the purpose of providing universal arts education by being implemented in the school curriculum. They are also characterized by active administrative and financial support and interactive participatory arts education with assured diversity. Therefore, when applying to a local public school, it is necessary to consider factors such as active administrative support, sustainable allocation of human and material resources, customized arts education that engages the all students and reflects their unique characteristics, social distribution through sharing, and continuous monitoring.

  • To improve the mechanical properties of polypropylene (PP) biocomposites reinforced with sulfuric acidtreated green algae (SGA), SGA/graphite nanoplatelets (GNP)/PP biocomposites were prepared and their properties were evaluated depending on the particle size and content of GNP. The flexural and impact strength of SGA/GNP/PP biocomposites decreased with the addition of GNP, whereas the flexrual and storage moduli were greatly improved with increasing GNP loading. SGA/GNP/PP biocomposites reinforced with GNP5 showed generally better mechanical properties compared to that reinforced with GNP15 mainly due to the improved dispersion of the smaller GNP. SGA/GNP/PP biocomposites reinforced with GNP5 showed a lower resistance to the thermal expansion because the relatively uniform dispersion of smaller GNP was responsible for the effective heat transfer to the polymer matrix. As a result, SGA/GNP/PP biocomposite was acceptable for the general purpose application due to the improved flexural resistance, storage moduli, and damping characteristics.

A Study on the Costumes for the Crown Prince Based on the Picture for School Entrance Ceremony in 1817 (1817년 효명세자 입학례의 왕세자 복식 고증)

  • This study looks at the costumes for the crown prince based on the Hyomyeong of 1817, a collection of the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage. The picture of School Entrance Ceremony of the Crown Prince (王世子入學圖) does not have the crown prince in the scene. However, it can be verified through literature that there are three different costumes for the ceremony. Chulgungui(出宮儀), the ceremony's first procedure, describes the departure of the prince crown from his residence toward Sungkyunkwan (成均館) with his escorting officials. The Crown Prince wears Seoyeonbok (書筵服) during this event. When the Crown Prince arrives at Sungkyunkwan, he participates in a series of ceremonies that consist of Jackhunui (酌獻儀), Wangbokui (往復儀), Supeiui (脩弊儀), and Ipackui (入學儀). At that time, he wears a confucian scholar's uniform. After returning from Sungkyunkwan, he attends Suhaui (受賀儀), the final procedure of the Crown Prince's School Entrance, at Simindang (詩敏堂) of Changgyong Palace(昌慶宮), At this time, the price crown wears Wonyukwanbok (遠遊冠服) as he is congratulated by royal family members and high ranking officials for his entrance to Sungkyunkwan in this ceremony. This point hereby concludes this study on the historical costumes for the prince crown based on the Hyomyeong Crown Prince's School Entrance in 1817.

Development of a Probabilistic Approach to Predict Motion Characteristics of a Ship under Wind Loads (풍하중을 고려한 확률론적 운동특성 평가기법 개발에 관한 연구)

  • Marine accidents due to loss of stability of small ships have continued to increase over the past decade. In particular, since sudden winds have been pointed out as main causes of most small ship accidents, safety measures have been established to prevent them. In this regard, to prevent accidents caused by sudden winds, a systematic analysis technique is required. The aim of the present study was to develop a probabilistic approach to estimate extreme value and evaluate effects of wind on motion characteristics of ships. The present study included studies of motion analysis, extraction of extreme values, and motion characteristics. A series analysis was conducted for three conditions: wave only, wave with uniform wind speed, and wave with the NPD wind model. Hysteresis filtering and Peak-Valley filtering techniques were applied to time-domain motion analysis results for extreme value extraction. Using extracted extreme values, the goodness of fit test was performed on four distribution functions to select the optimal distribution-function that best expressed extreme values. Motion characteristics of a fishing boat were evaluated for three periodic motion conditions (Heave, Roll, and Pitch) and results were compared. Numerical analysis was performed using a commercial solver, ANSYS-AQWA.

  • The global demand for oil and natural gas has increased, and resource development is moving to the deep sea. Floating and flexible offshore structures such as semi-submersible, spar, and FPSO structures have been widely used. The major equipment of floating structures is always exposed to waves, currents, and other marine environmental factors, which cause structural damage. Moreover, flexible risers are susceptible to an exciting force due to the motion of the floating body. The inline and transverse responses from the three-dimensional behavior of a floating structure occur because of various forces. Typical risers are made of steel pipe and applied in the oil and gas development field, but flexible materials such as polyethylene are suitable for OTEC risers. Consequently, the optimal design of a flexible offshore plant requires a dynamic behavior analysis of slender bodies made of the different materials commonly used for offshore flexible risers. In this study, a three-dimensional motion measurement device was used to analyze the displacements of riser models induced by external force factors, and forced oscillation of a riser was linked to forced oscillation under a steady flow and regular wave condition.

The role of EL2 in the infrared transmission images of defects in semi-insulating GaAs

  • Infrared transmission images from GaAs semi insulating wafers were considered for years as directly related to the quantum absorption by electrons on fundamental states of deep centers, especially EL2. The satisfying correspondence of these images with the dislocations revealed by etching or X ray topography or infrared tomography led to the opinion that a strong concentration of EL2 centers was to be expected in the immediate vicinity of the dislocations. More recent work indicates that contrary to the expected behavior the photoqu$\acute{e}$nching of transmission images at T=80K does not appreciably change the image structure itself but more largely the uniform background level of absorption. Such investigations show that the transmission images of isolated dislocations (Indium doped materials) or cell structures of tangled dislocations (undoped materials) can be partly attributed to scattered light; similar operation at T=10K removes the dark features associated to EL2 but still preserves the skeleton of the pattern which is due to scattering. A result of the measurements is that dislocations must not be considered any longer as inexhaustive EL2 reservoirs. The lifetime of the photoqu$\acute{e}$nching mechanism is shown to vary differently for EL2 centers located close to the dislocations or in the matrix. In this paper we will develop the details of infrared image photoqu$\acute{e}$nching experiments in the vicinity of dislocations; undoped and In doped GaAs materials will be shown. These results will be discussed in the light of surface etching experiments.
