In this paper a general solution method is presented to obtain the unbalance response orbit from the finite element based equations of motion of a gear-coupled two-shaft rotor-bearing system, whose shafts rotate at their different speeds from each other. Particularly, are proposed analytical solutions of the maximum and minimum radii of the orbit. The method has been applied to analyze the unbalance response of a 800 refrigeration-ton turbo-chiller rotor-bearing system having a bull-pinion speed increasing gear. Bumps in the unbalance response of the driven high speed compressor rotor system have been observed at the first torsional natural frequency due to the coupling effect of lateral and torsional dynamics. Further, the proposed analytical solutions have agreed well with those obtained by a full numerical approach. The proposed analytical solutions can be generally applied to obtain the maximum and minimum radii of the unbalance response orbits of dual-shaft rotor-bearing systems coupled by bearings as well.

This paper presents a method to analyze the unbalance response of a high speed polygon mirror scanner motor supported by sintered metal bearing and flexible structures by using the finite element method and the mode superposition method considering the asymmetry of the gyroscopic effect and sintered metal bearing. The eigenvalues and eigenvectors are calculated by solving the eigenvalue problem and the adjoint eigenvalue problem by using the restarted Arnoldi iteration method. The decoupled equations of motion can be obtained from global finite element motion equations by using the orthogonal relation between the right eigenvectors and left eigenvectors. The decoupled equations of motion are used to analyze the unbalance response of a high speed polygon mirror scanner motor. The validity of the proposed method is verified by comparing the simulated unbalance response with the experimental results.

Single-phase and three-phase load can be used together in 3-phase 4-wire system. Single-phase and three-phase loads can be classified as linear loads without harmonics and nonlinear with harmonics. Single-phase linear loads are linear loads such as lamps and heat, and single-phase nonlinear loads are power converters such as rectifiers. It is recommended that the distribution of loads in the 3-phase, 4-wire distribution lines be evenly distributed within a certain range. However, harmonic currents generated in a nonlinear load flow on the neutral line and affect the phase current magnitude. The difference in the magnitude of the individual phase current due to the influence of the harmonic current present in the neutral line can produce a difference in current and load unbalance. In this study, current unbalance ratio and load unbalance ratio which can occur when a combination of linear and nonlinear loads are applied to 3-phase 4-wire distribution line are calculated.

The three-phase diode rectifier with capacitive filter is highly sensitive to line voltage unbalance. Because of its inherent nonlinear characteristics, small line voltage unbalance may cause highly unbalanced line current, causing detrimental effects on power quality. This paper presents a theoretical basis on this 'unbalance amplification effect' and derives an analytical model of line current characteristics under unbalanced line voltage condition for various modes of operation. The results provide a basic guideline for optimal design of a three-phase diode rectifier with capacitive filter that is most commonly used for interfacing various power conversion equipments to power lines.

A cascaded H-bridge multi-level STATCOM(STATic synchronous COMpensator), which is composed of many cell inverters with independent dc-sources, generates inevitably dc-side voltage unbalance among phases when it compensates unbalanced load. It comes from the difference of flowing active power in each phase when this compensator makes negative-sequence current to eliminate the unbalance of source-side current. However, this unbalance can be controlled by injecting zero-sequence current which is decoupled with grid currents, so the compensator can work well during this balancing process. Both a feedback control algorithm, which produces zero-sequence current proportional to dc-side voltage unbalance within each phase, and a feedforward control algorithm, which makes zero-sequence current directly from the compensator's negative-sequence current, were proposed. The dc-side voltage of each phase can be controlled stably by these proposed algorithms in both steady-state and transient, so the compensator can have fast response to satisfy control performance under rapid changing load. These balancing controllers were implemented and verified via simulation and experiment.

In a high-speed press, numerous moving links are interconnected and each link executes a constrained motion at high speed. As a consequence, high-level dynamic unbalance force and unbalance moment are transmitted to the main frame of the press, which results in unwanted vibration and significantly degrades manufacturing accuracy. Dynamic unbalance force and unbalance moment inevitably transmits high-level vibrational force to the foundation on which the press is installed. Minimizing the vibrational force transmitted to the foundation is critical for the protection of both the operators and the surrounding structures. The whole task should be carried out in two steps. The first step is to reduce dynamic unbalance based upon kinematic and dynamic analyses. The second step is to design and build an optimal vibration isolation system minimizing the vibrational force transmitted to the foundation. Firstly, the dynamic design method is presented to reduce dynamic unbalance force and moment. For this a 3D CAD software was utilized and a computer program was written to compute dynamic unbalance force and moment. Secondly, the design method for vibration isolation system is presented. The method for designing coil springs and viscous dampers are explained in detail.

This paper presents a method to analyze the unbalance response of a high speed polygon mirror scanner motor supported by sintered bearing and flexible supporting structures by using the finite element method and the mode superposition method. The appropriate finite element equations for polygon mirror are described by rotating annular sector element using Kirchhoff plate theory and von Karman non-linear strain, and its rigid body motion is also considered. The rotating components except for the polygon mirror are modeled by Timoshenko beam element including the gyroscopic effect. The flexible supporting structures are modeled by using a 4-node tetrahedron element and 4-node shell element with rotational degrees of freedom. Finite element equations of each component of the polygon mirror scanner motor and the flexible supporting structures are consistently derived by satisfying the geometric compatibility in the internal boundary between each component. The rigid link constraints are also imposed at the interface area between sleeve and sintered bearing to describe the physical motion at this interface. A global matrix equation obtained by assembling the finite element equations of each substructure is transformed to a state-space matrix-vector equation, and both damped natural frequencies and modal damping ratios are calculated by solving the associated eigenvalue problem by using the restarted Arnoldi iteration method. Unbalance responses in time and frequency domain are performed by superposing the eigenvalues and eigenvectors from the free vibration analysis. The validity of the proposed method is verified by comparing the simulated unbalance response with the experimental results. This research also shows that the flexibility of supporting structures plays an important role in determining the unbalance response of the polygon mirror scanner motor.

Voltage unbalance is regarded as a power quality problem of significant at the user application. Although the voltages are quite well balanced at the transmission system, the voltage level of utilization can be unbalanced due to the unequal system impedances and the unequal distribution of single phase loads. Capacitor is generally used for power-factor compensation and reducing harmonics of non linear load with reactor. If voltage unbalance exists, current unbalance is generated and it will be reflected in the capacity variance. When the reactor and condenser are used at the same location, generally its trouble rate is high. And it is very important checking out that how the variance of voltage, current and capacity of condenser is proceeded by the voltage unbalance. In this paper, we calculated that voltage, current and capacity of condenser are within the tolerance limit of official regulations in the event of voltage unbalance with/without reactor.

In this paper, a new current controller with the compensation of an unbalance and distorted grid voltages has been proposed. Generally, in the three-phase power system, single phase or nonlinear loads can be connected with the 3 phase linear load simultaneously on the same point of common coupling. Therefore, The source voltage unbalance and distortion problem can be occurred. Under these unbalance and distorted grid voltage conditions, the input current of 3 phase PWM rectifiers also have unbalance and distortion. In this paper, a current controller with the simple Model Reference Adaptive System based unbalance and distorted voltages observer is proposed to get a sinusoidal input current. The performance of the proposed algorithm is verified through the simulation and the experiment.

Balance shaft has a key role in reducing a engine vibration in a vehicle and widely applied for current models. Since balance shaft module consists many sub-component and each part has its own operational characteristics, some different analysis backgrounds should be integrated into one sub-part in balance shaft module and this is the main obstacles in making a design process. Moreover, the balancing shaft is rotating in high speed and such condition requires large safety factors in a design process owing to a lot of unexpected problems with the overwhelming rotation. Balance shaft is the core-component generating the intended unbalance as well as cancelling the unbalance force or moment by the engine module. So, the balance shaft should meet the high fatigue resistance not to mention of NVH performance. In this paper, a design strategy focused on balance shaft is developed to build a optimal model considering a engine vibration. Putting the unbalance mass distribution as main design parameter, some candidate model is verifed with structural and fatigue analysis and most appropriate model is proposed here.
