  • In the near future, we can access information which we want, whenever we want, wherever we use. Because almost devices in ubiquitous environment are connected by either wired or wireless network. Especially, u-Learning emphasizing on pedagogical property is enable to improve learning abilities. As researches of the previous u-Learning. there have been learning by mobile devices such like PDAs as well as the smart classroom, which makes the remote students participate in the existing class. However, these researches have not satisfied pedagogical, cooperative and ubiquitous properties yet. Thus we suggest the framework for both local and mobile classroom, which can make the properties easy to satisfy.

  • In this paper a new OSD (On-Screen Display) development system for digital devices is presented. The proposed system is an example of the ubiquitous systems because it can be used to co-develop an OSD tn any time at any place if the web can be accessed. In UI, OSD is an important pan of digital devices. Especially, OSD implementations for multiple languages are essential to export digital devices and make them user-friendly. The proposed system consists of four components: font editor, menu editor. R/C simulator, and screen editor. It provides all the functions to develop an OSD and the result can be downloaded to a digital device. The proposed system was used to develop an OSD for 31 countries and the lead time of development was reduced from 52.7 days to 20 days.

  • Mobile devices do not need the fixed network infrastructure in ad-hoc network, these devices communicate each other through the distributed control. Accordingly, mobile devices can discover several services using dynamic searching method and provide safely public ownership of these services. Ad-hoc network needs the distributed control and topology of dynamic network because the limited power for processing and network communication. This paper is devoted to provide the secure protocol that provides efficient services discovery using SDP(Service Discovery Protocol) and considers the security requirements. Proposed protocol provides the distributed control based on PKI without central server, the discovery of trusted service, secure telecommunication, the identification among mobile devices, and service access control by user authority.

  • The implementation of home network systems In ubiquitous computing environments requires middleware that provides a method to control and operate home appliance devices. The Universal Plug and Play (UPnP), which is based on the IPv4 protocol and running on a PC, consists of UPnP devices that provide relevant services and control points that control the devices. However, It is inappropriate to Implement UPnP devices on a PC, since the implementation on a PC requires much space and electrical power. In this paper, a small embedded home network device equipped with UPnP middleware is implemented on an embedded GNU/Linux system running on an ARM9 platform, in order to deal with such problems.

  • Ubiquitous space can be described as a combined space of physical space and digital space. Ubiquitous space possesses new possibilities by combining the two. The concept of ubiquitous home will bring new changes in residential space design. First of all, it makes possible for more convenient and secure home. It has to be developed along with city and town level changes as ubiquitous environment. Secondly, concept of extended space as an extension of living space becomes possible by linking with outside spaces. Thirdly, as consumer requirements for residential spaces will become more versatile by social changes, ubiquitous home can be a good means to meet these versatile consumer requirements by accommodating concept of multi-functional space and flexible space. It is quite important to predict user requirements in rapidly changing social environment and versatile personal inclinations. Instead of POE methodology which can analyze and evaluate in exiting types of designs, storytelling methodology can be used to predict and direct for future requirements of living. The methodology makes scenarios of space usage for future living and extracts design requirements for the living. The concept of intelligent space has to be introduced. It is different from digital home that only accomodate digital devices in space. In intelligent space, space itself has to be recognized as an identity that interacts human directly. Intelligent space recognize human requirements and control digital devices as a response. Multi-functional space is closely related with intelligent space that can changes for business, entertainments as well as for rests by user requirements instantly. Flexible space that also intends to meet requirements of mobility and versatility can be attained through the integration of digital technology into current physical mobile systems. Interaction design becomes integral part for ubiquitous space design along with physical design. For the residential space design, digital illiteracy has to be considered for interaction design. Instead of the concept of passive existence, space itself has to be recognized as active subsistence that reacts with human. Intuitive and natural interaction for human will be a key design element for space-human interface design.

  • The Ubiquitous Sensor Network, a new computing paradigm, is a core technology of ubiquitous computing for context-awareness monitoring system using sensor networks. Recently, ubiquitous campus has been developed to build ubiquitous computing environments in many universities. In this paper, I propose the development of context-awareness monitoring system, to acquire the context information through various sensors and provide the campus information and safety services for students with disabilities using mobile devices. Ubiquitous sensor system based on u-campus technology for students with disabilities can especially be used to provide customized information.

  • In this paper, we describe ubiquitous environments and the trend of convergence that is an evolution path of. current telecommunication, and show the concept of broadband convergence network, service feature and evolution path. In order to converge wire and wireless communication, telecommunication and broadcasting, voice and data efficiently, broadband convergence network divides a network into service layer, control layer, transport layer, ubiquitous access and terminal layer. Broadband convergence network will be a network that can provide and control broadband multimedia services with QoS and security of different and customized level. Then we depict characteristics and types of broadband multimedia service, and describe the characteristic of broadband convergence network. Finally, we show ubiquitous network based on the broadband convert- gence network to provide ubiquitous service which is a future telecommunication service. We also describe requirements of ubiquitous network such as an intelligent and context based platform, convergence terminals, ubi- quitous computing devices, etc.

  • One important issue to generalize the ubiquitous paradigm is the development of user-centralized and intelligent ubiquitous computing systems. Sharing knowledge and correct communication between users and devices are needed to be aware of continuous changed context information and infer services for which users are suited. The goal of this paper is to describe and manage effectively the meaning of services or data which each device offers for interaction between users and devices based on semantic relationships and reasoning. In this paper, we represent semantic data using OWL and design a ubiquitous based intelligent system. We propose some index structures and strategies to process queries classified by each subsystem and adopt labeling schemes to identify classes and resources in the semantic data. We can find devices which satisfies various user's requests exactly and quickly using the proposed strategies.

  • As ubiquitous technology(uT) is offered in the future space, human will find their life more convenient and prosperous, and the space efficiency will be improved with virtual displays within a limited space. In an living space with ubiquitous environments, all information of family members will be an essential source creating advanced future spaces both for users and for those maintaining the space. In recent studies of uT environment, development of scenario is mostly being carried out based on user and service. It is unsatisfactory, however, when it comes to the study of how these studies can be developed on the basis of architectural space. In this paper, we study about applying scenarios created through space analysis to suggest ways to predict the analysis of the relationship between digital devices/services and the building elements based on physical space with uT and to offer services smoothly to uT environment, intelligent devices and their users.
