A numerical analysis is carried out for the marine propellers in open water conditions to investigate the effect of the wall treatments in model and full scale. The standard wall function to apply the low of the wall and the two layer zonal model to calculate the whole boundary layer for a transition phenomenon are used with one turbulence model. To determine an appropriate distance of the first grid point from the wall when using the wall function, a formula based on Reynolds number is suggested, which can estimate the maximum y+ satisfying the logarithmic law. In the model scale, it is confirmed that a transition calculation is required for a model scale propeller with low Reynolds number that the transient region appears widely. While in the full scale, the wall function calculation is recommended for efficient calculations due to the turbulence dominant flow for large Reynolds number.

A microgrid as a small scale power system is operated by the grid-connected mode and islanded mode. It is anticipated that the battery energy storage system (BESS) is able to be applied to the microgrid for stable power control, such as tie-line and smoothing control in the grid-connected mode and voltage and frequency control in the islanded mode. In this paper, a digital signal processor (DSP), Two BESS controllers based on TMS320F28335 of a microgrid are implemented and are tested to show control performance in the hardware-in-the loop simulation (HILS) system.

Two-dimensional steady flowfields generated by transverse injection jets into a supersonic mainstream are numerically simulated. Fine-scale turbulence effects are represented by a k-${\omega}$ SST two-equation closure model which includes $y^+$ effects on the turbulence model. Solution convergence is evaluated by using Grid Convergence Index(GCI), a measure of uncertainty of the grid convergence. Comparison is made with experimental data and other turbulence models in term of surface static pressure distributions, the length of the upstream separation region, and the penetration height. Results indicate that the k-${\omega}$ SST model correctly predicts the mean surface pressure distribution and the upstream separation length for low static pressure ratios. However, the numerical predictions become less consistent with experimental results as the static pressure ratio increases. All these results are taken within 1% error band of grid convergence.

Micro-source units having power ratings in thousands of watts can provide power quality with higher reliability and efficiency than the conventional large scale units. Since these units are small and easy to install, they are clustered with loads creating micro-grid services to customer sites such as office buildings, industrial parks and homes. Micro-sources adopt voltage source inverter to ensure the power quality of sensitive loads. This paper deals with the connection of micro-sources into the system grid EMTDC modeling of the grid connected micro-sources at the power frequency range are proposed and the characteristics of the control system parameters are investigated. Simulation results show that the micro-grid system with two micro-sources has good dynamic characteristics.

The hybrid grid was adopted and numerical prediction analysis of propeller unsteady bearing force considering free surface was performed for mode and full-scale KCS hull-propeller-rudder system by employing RANS method and VOF model. In order to obtain the propeller velocity under self-propulsion point, firstly, the numerical simulation for self-propulsion test of full-scale ship is carried out. The results show that the scale effect of velocity at self-propulsion point and wake fraction is obvious. Then, the transient two-phase flow calculations are performed for model and full-scale KCS hull-propeller-rudder systems. According to the monitoring data, it is found that the propeller unsteady bearing force is fluctuating periodically over time and full-scale propeller's time-average value is smaller than model-scale's. The frequency spectrum curves are also provided after fast Fourier transform. By analyzing the frequency spectrum data, it is easy to summarize that each component of the propeller bearing force have the same fluctuation frequency and the peak in BFP is maximum. What's more, each component of full-scale bearing force's fluctuation value is bigger than model-scale's except the bending moment coefficient about the Y-axis.

This study was conducted to develop a method to be able to estimate the vehicular emissions according to spatial scales-Seoul province, 25 counties and hundreds of grids $(1km{\times}1km)$. First, the emissions at each spatial scale was calculated by using the road network and the travel volume and speed of each link modeled by travel demand model (TDM). Second, the emission at each spatial scale was calculated on the basis of average speeds estimated by using three kinds of averaging method. These are called the provincial, volume-delay function (VDF) and zonal method, respectively. Third, three kinds of emissions and those by TDM are compared each other at three spatial scales. In Seoul (provincial scale), three kinds of emissions are less than those by TDM, but the differences of TDM from three speed averaging methods (SAMs) are small. The relative ratios of three SAMs to TDM are $88\~90\%\;in\;CO,\;99\~100\%\;in\;NOx,\;84\~85\%$ in VOCs. At county scale, NOx among three pollutants showed the highest correlation between TDM and three SAMs and the zonal method among three SAMs was proven to be the highest correlation with TDM. NOx showed the coefficients $(R^2)$ greater than 0.9 in all three SAMs but CO and VOC showed the coefficients $(R^2)$ greater than 0.9 in only zonal method. Slopes of co..elations of all pollutants showed the values close to '1' in zonal method. In the other two SAMs, slopes of NOx showed the values close to '1', but those of CO and VOC showed the values less than 0.85. At grid scale, correlations between TDM and three SAMs were not high. CO showed $0.68\~0.77\;in\;R^2s\;and\;58\~0.68$ in slopes. NOx showed $0.90\~0.94\;in\;R^2s\;and\;0.86\~0.94$ in slopes. VOC showed $0.56\~0.70\;in\;R^2s\;and\;0.48\~0.57$ in slopes. There are not high correlations between TDM and three SAMs in grid scale. This study showed that there is the most suitable method for calculating the average travel speed at each spatial scale and it is thought that the zonal method is more suitable than the VDF or provincial method.
The methods and performance of a pin-level nuclear reactor core thermal-hydraulics (T/H) code ESCOT employing the drift-flux model are presented. This code aims at providing an accurate yet fast core thermal-hydraulics solution capability to high-fidelity multiphysics core analysis systems targeting massively parallel computing platforms. The four equation drift-flux model is adopted for two-phase calculations, and numerical solutions are obtained by applying the Finite Volume Method (FVM) and the Semi-Implicit Method for Pressure-Linked Equation (SIMPLE)-like algorithm in a staggered grid system. Constitutive models involving turbulent mixing, pressure drop, and vapor generation are employed to simulate key phenomena in subchannel-scale analyses. ESCOT is parallelized by a domain decomposition scheme that involves both radial and axial decomposition to enable highly parallelized execution. The ESCOT solutions are validated through the applications to various experiments which include CNEN $4{\times}4$, Weiss et al. two assemblies, PNNL $2{\times}6$, RPI $2{\times}2$ air-water, and PSBT covering single/two-phase and unheated/heated conditions. The parameters of interest for validation include various flow characteristics such as turbulent mixing, spacer grid pressure drop, cross-flow, reverse flow, buoyancy effect, void drift, and bubble generation. For all the validation tests, ESCOT shows good agreements with measured data in the extent comparable to those of other subchannel-scale codes: COBRA-TF, MATRA and/or CUPID. The execution performance is examined with a mini-sized whole core consisting of 89 fuel assemblies and for an OPR1000 core. It turns out that it is about 1.5 times faster than a subchannel code based on the two-fluid three field model and the axial domain decomposition scheme works as well as the radial one yielding a steady-state solution for the OPR1000 core within 30 s with 104 processors.

Two aspects of Large-Eddy Simulation(LES) are investigated in order to improve its performance. The first one is on how to determine the model coefficient in conjunction with a dynamic subgrid-scale model, and the second one is on a wall-layer model(WLM) which allows one to skip near-wall regions to save a large number of grid points otherwise required. Especially, a WLM suitable for a separated flow is considered. Firstly, an averaging technique to calculate the model coefficient of dynamic subgrid-scale modeling(DSGSM) is introduced. The technique is based on the concept of local averaging, and useful to stabilize numerical solution in conjunction with LES of complex turbulent flows using DSGSM. It is relatively simple to implement, and takes very low overhead in CPU time. It is also able to detect the region of negative model coefficient where the "backscattering" of turbulence energy occurs. Secondly, a wall-layer model based on a local turbulence intensity is considered. It locally determines wall-shear stresses depending on the local flow situations including separation, and yields better predictions in separated regions than the conventional WLM. The two techniques are tested for a turbulent obstacle flow, and show the direction of further improvements.rovements.

This paper focuses on the design and control of a new concept for wind turbines with a planetary gearbox to realize a power split. This concept, where the generated wind power is split into two parts, is to increase the utilization of the wind power and may be particularly suitable for large scale off-shore wind turbines. In order to reduce the cost of the power electronic devices, a synchronous generator, which is driven by the planetary gear, is directly connected to the power grid without electronic converter. A servo drive, which functions as the control actuator, is connected to the power grid by a power electronic converter. With small scale power electronic device, the current harmonics can also be reduced. The speed of the main shaft is controlled to track the optimal tip speed ratio. Meanwhile the speed of the synchronous generator is controlled to stay at the synchronous speed. The minimum rated power of the servo motor and the converter, is studied and discussed in this paper. Different variants of the wind turbine with a planetary gear are also compared. The controller for optimal tip speed ratio and synchronous speed tracking is given.
