Analytical Method for Dioxin and Organo-Chlorinated Compounds: (Ⅱ) Comparison and Extraction Methods of Dioxins from XAD-2 Adsorbent

  • Supercritical fluid extraction (SFE), ultrasonic extraction (USE), and accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) were compared with the well known Soxhlet extraction for the extraction of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins(PCDDs) from the XAD-2 resin which was used to adsorb PCDDs in the atmosphere. XAD-2 resin spiked with five PCDDs was chosen as a sample. The optimum conditions for the extraction of PCDDs by SFE were turned out to be the use of CO2 modified with 10% toluene at 100 ℃ and 350 atm, with 5 min static extraction followed by 20 min dynamic extraction. SFE gave a good extraction rate with good reproducibility for PCDDs ranging from 68 to 98%. The ultrasonic extraction of PCDDs from XAD-2 was investigated and compared with other extractions. A probe type method was compared with a bath type. Two extraction solvents, toluene and acetone were compared with their mixture. The use of their mixture in probe type, with 9 minutes of extraction time, was found to be the optimum condition. The average recovery of the five PCDDs for USE was 82-93%. Accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) with a liquid solvent, a new technique for sample preparation, was performed under elevated temperatures and pressures. The effect of tem-perature on the efficiency of ASE was investigated. The extraction time for a 10 g sample was less than 15 min, when the organic solvent was n-hexaneacetone mixture (1 : 1, v/v). Using ASE, the average recoveries of five PCDDs ranged from 90 to 103%. SFE, USE, and ASE were faster and less laborious than Soxhlet extraction. The former three methods required less solvent than Soxhlet extraction. SFE required no concentration of the solvent extracts. SFE and ASE failed to perform simultaneous parallel extractions because of instrumental limitations.

Evaluation of 475 ℃ embrittlement in UNS S32750 super duplex stainless steel using four-point electric conductivity measurements

  • One of the consequences of the 475 ℃ embrittlement of duplex stainless steels is the reduction of the resistance to localized corrosion. Therefore, the detection of this type of embrittlement before the material exhibits significant loss in toughness, and corrosion resistance is important to ensure the structural integrity of critical components under corrosion threats. In this research, conductivity measurements are performed using the alternating current potential drop (ACPD) technique with using a portable four-point probe as a nondestructive evaluation (NDE) method for detecting the embrittlement in a 2507 (UNS S32750) super duplex stainless steel (SDSS) aged at 475 ℃ from as-received condition to 300 h. The electric conductivity results were compared against two electrochemical tests namely double loop electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation (DL-EPR) and critical pitting temperature (CPT). Mechanical tests and the microstructure characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) imaging are conducted to track the progress of embrittlement. It is shown that the electric conductivity correlates with the changes in impact energy, microhardness, and CPT corrosion tests result demonstrating the feasibility of the four-point probe as a possible field-deployable method for evaluating the 475 ℃ embrittlement of 2507 SDSS.

광열변위법의 변형각을 이용한 열확산계수 측정 (Measurement of Thermal Diffusivity Using Deformation Angle Based on the Photothermal Displacement Method)

  • A new method of measuring the thermal diffusivity of solid material at room temperature using photothermal displacement is proposed. The influence of the parameters, such as radius and modulation frequency of the pump beam and the sample thickness, was studied. In previous works, thermal diffusivity was determined by the deformation angle and phase angle as the relative position between the heating and probe beams. In this study, however, we proposed the new analysis method based on the real part of deformation angle as the relative position between two beams. From the zero-crossing position of real part of deformation angle with respect to the pump beam, the thermal diffusivity of the materials can be obtained. The experimental values for different samples obtained by applying the new method are in good agreement with the literature values.

환경적 요인에 따른 비파괴 철근 탐사의 오차율에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Error Rate of Non-destructive Rebar Detection Under Different Environmental Factors)

  • 철근콘크리트 구조물의 내구성 및 안전성은 콘크리트의 균열 및 강도와 더불어 철근의 배근상태나 콘크리트 피복 두께에 크게 의존한다. 콘크리트 내에 매립되어 있는 철근 정보를 정확히 파악하는 방법엔 국부 파괴법과 비파괴 철근 탐사 시험이 있다. 일반적으로 부재 손상을 최소화하기 위해 비파괴 철근 탐사 시험을 통해 파악하며, 비파괴 철근 탐사 시험에는 전자파레이더법, 전자기유도법, 방사선법 등이 있다. 콘크리트의 함수율과 온도는 콘크리트의 전기적 특성인 유전율에 영향을 미쳐 비파괴 철근 탐사 시험 결과에 간섭을 방생시킨다. 따라서 본연구에서는 콘크리트의 표면수율과 온도에 따라 전자파레이더법과 전자기유도법이 받는 영향을 분석하였다. 장비와 기술의 발달로 원리와 상관없이 24℃ 시험체에서는 평균 오차율이 5% 이하로 나타났으며 특히 전자기유도법의 경우 매우 높은 정확성을 갖는 것을 확인하였다. 전자파레이더법은 습윤상태보다 건조상태에서 상대적으로 오차율이 작은 특성을 나타내었으며, 고온에서는 다소 높은 오차율이 나타났다. 탐사 대상의 온도가 낮고 건조한 경우 전자파레이더법을 적용하고, 탐사 대상이 습윤상태이거나 고온에서는 전자기유도법을 사용하여 오차를 감소시킬 수 있음이 확인되었다.

A study on the effect of the condition number in the magnetic field mapping of the Air-Core solenoid

  • Mapping is a useful tool in the magnetic field analysis and design. In some specific research area, such as the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) or the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), it is important to map the magnetic field in the interesting space with high accuracy. In this paper, an indirect mapping method in the center volume of an air-core solenoid is presented, based on the solution of the Laplace's equation for the field. Through the mathematical analysis on the mapping calculation, we know that the condition number of the matrix, generated by the measurement points, can greatly affect the error of mapping result. Two different arrangement methods of the measurement points in field mapping are described in this paper: helical cylindrical line (HCL) method and parallel cylindrical line (PCL) method. According to the condition number, the HCL method is recommended to measure the field components using one probe. As a simple example, we mapped the magnetic fields in a MRI main magnet system. Comparing the results in the different methods, it is feasible and convenient to apply the condition number to reduce the error in the field mapping calculation. Finally, some guidelines were presented for the magnetic field mapping in the center volume of the air-core solenoid.

초기 폐암에서 기관지 초음파 내시경의 임상적 유용성 (Endobronchial Ultrasound in Early Lung Cancer)

  • Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), which enables visualization of lesions beyond the bronchus, broadens the fields of bronchoscopy. Two types of ultrasound, radial and linear, are used for bronchoscopy. Radial EBUS is performed by inserting an ultrasound mini-probe through the working channel of a flexible bronchoscope. Evaluation of the depth of invasion of early endobronchial lung cancers using radial EBUS is useful in deciding endobronchial treatment. A central tumor limited to within the cartilaginous layer is a good indication for endobronchial photodynamic therapy. EBUS-guide sheath (GS) technique is a sampling method assisted by localization of peripheral lesions using EBUS. The diagnostic yield of EBUS-GS method is higher than that of conventional transbronchial biopsy. High diagnostic values of EBSU-GS method are reported even in small (${\leq}2cm$) peripheral tumors. Linear EBUS is used for endobronchial ultrasound guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA). EBUS-TBNA has high diagnostic yields in mediastinal staging of lung cancer even in patients having radiologically early stage lung cancers with normal CT or PET findings in the mediastinum. EBUS is a valuable method in evaluating early endobronchial tumors and peripheral small lung cancers and as well as in mediastinal staging.

Current-in-plane Tunneling Measurement through Patterned Contacts on Top Surfaces of Magnetic Tunnel Junctions

  • This study reports an alternative method for measuring the magnetoresistance of unpatterned magnetic tunnel junctions similar to the current-in-plane tunneling (CIPT) method. Instead of using microprobes, a series of point contacts with different spacings are coated on the top surface of the junctions and R-H loops at various spacings are then measured by the usual four-point probe method. The values of magnetoresistance and resistance-area products can be obtained by fitting the measured data to the CIPT theoretical model. The test results of two types of junctions were highly similar to those obtained from standard CIPT tools. The proposed method may help to accelerate the process for evaluating the quality of magnetic tunnel junctions when commercial CIPT tools are not accessible.

Soft Tissue Measurement Method Using Radiopaque Material on Cone-beam Computed Tomography: An Ex Vivo Validation Study

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the validity and reproducibility of a method based on cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) technology for the visualization and measurement of gingival soft-tissue dimensions. Material and Methods: A total of 66 selected points in soft-tissue of the ex vivo head of an adult pig were investigated in this study. For the measurement of radiographic thickness (RT), wet soft-tissue surfaces were lightly covered with barium sulfate powder using a powder spray. CBCT was taken and DICOM files were assessed for soft-tissue thickness measurement at reference points. A periodontal probe and a rubber stop were used for the measurement of trans-gingival probing thickness (TPT). After flap elevation, actual thickness of soft-tissue (actual thickness, AT) was measured. Correlation analysis and intraclass correlation coefficients analysis (ICC) were performed for AT, TPT, and RT. Results: All variables were distributed normally. Strong significant correlations of AT with RT and TPT values were found. The two ICC values between TPT vs. AT and RT vs. AT differed significantly. Conclusion: Our results indicated that correlation of RT was stronger than that of TPT with AT. We concluded that soft tissue measurement with CBCT could be a reliable method, compared to the trans-gingival probing measurement method.

P300 숨긴정보검사에서 t 검증이 부트스트랩 방법보다 덜 민감한가? (Is the t-test insensitive than the bootstrap method in the P300-based concealed information test?)

  • P300 숨긴정보검사에서는 조사대상자가 거짓을 말하고 있는지 판단하기 위하여 관련자극의 P300 진폭이 무관련자극의 P300 진폭보다 통계적으로 유의하게 더 큰지를 평가한다. 구체적인 통계적 방법으로 독립표본 t 검증 또는 부트스트랩 방법을 사용할 수 있다. Rosenfeld와 Soskins, Bosh, Ryan(2004)은 "개인 내에서 관련자극과 무관련자극의 P300 평균을 비교하는데 사용하기에는 t 검증이 너무 둔감하다."면서 부트스트랩 방법을 사용하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 P300 숨긴정보검사에서 t 검증의 검증력이 부트스트랩 방법보다 더 낮은지 평가하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 39명의 실험참가자로부터 측정한 뇌파자료를 이용하여 Monte Carlo 연구를 수행하였다. 연구결과, t 검증과 백분위를 이용한 부트스트랩 방법의 1 종 오류율은 서로 비슷하였으며, 백분위를 이용한 부트스트랩 방법의 검증력이 t 검증의 검증력보다 약간 더 높았다. 두 검증 방법의 1 종 오류율은 모두 유의수준보다 낮은 값을 보였으며, 검증력은 이론적인 t 검증의 검증력보다 약간 낮은 값을 보였다. 반면에 표준오차를 이용한 부트스트랩 방법의 1 종 오류율과 검증력은 이론적인 t 검증의 1 종 오류율 및 검증력과 비슷한 값을 보였으며, t 검증의 검증력보다 실험조건에 따라 .012 ~ .081 더 높았다.

가상환경 기반의 컨베이어 시스템 검증을 위한 제어 시뮬레이션 연구 (A Study of PLC Simulation for Transport System in Virtual Environment)

  • This paper proposed a control simulation method for design and verification of the transport system in an automobile assembly line based on digital manufacturing system. The design of the transport system involves two major activities: mechanical design (device specification) and electrical design (device behavior and system control). Conventionally, the simulation and emulation system of the transport system focuses on the abstract level, which mainly deals with design verification, alternative comparison, and system diagnosis. Although it can provide overall system visibility in monitoring how well it works in the process and view, its simulation models are not sufficiently realistic to be used for a detailed design or for implementation purposes. In this paper, a digital simulation model for a transport system in an automotive assembly line is constructed by adapting a digital manufacturing methodology. We use the concept of the "Virtual Probe", which transport a carrier instead of the belt of the conveyor. In conclusion, the proposed method is valuable in the process of test run in the shop floor. This method would reduce the time and effort for validating the manufacturing system and improve the productivity and integrity of the control program.
