  • In this paper, we suggested a neuro-fuzzy learning algorithm for tuning fuzzy rules, in which a fuzzy system model is of additive-type. Using the method, it is possible to reduce the computation size, since performing the fuzzy inference and tuning the fuzzy rules of each fuzzy subsystem model are independent. Moreover, the efficiency of suggested method is shown by means of a numerical example.

  • Robust tuning rules of the motion profile are proposed to minimize the residual vibration. For asymmetric S-curve profile, tuning rules are analytically formulated using Laplace-domain approach. When the system modeling is known exactly, by placing a single zero of the motion profile on the pole of the system, the residual vibration can be perfectly eliminated under undamped system. However, if there are some amounts of the modeling errors, the residual vibration significantly increases. To track this issue, the robust tuning rules against modeling error are discussed. One of the proposed robust tuning rules is placing the multiple zeros of the motion profile on the pole of the system, and the other is placing the zeros of the motion profile around the pole of the system. Thanks to the proposed robust tuning rules, motion profile becomes more robust to modeling errors while minimizing the residual vibration. By simulation, the effectiveness of the proposed robust tuning rules is verified.

  • In this paper, some rules for auto- tuning of feedback-feedforward controller in variable load and disturbance are presented. The parameters of feedback PID controller are determined by heuristic rules based on input regulation experiment, and the parameters of feedforward controller are determined by result rules based on spectral factorization, minimum variance, and polynomial equation. These heuristic and result rules are used as an element of the feedback loop in an auto-tuning feedback-feedforward controller. The robust and accurate control performance is demonstrated by computer simulation.

  • In this paper, model-based tuning rules of the PID controller are proposed incorporating with genetic algorithms. Three sets of optimal PID parameters for set-point tracking are obtained based on the first-order time delay model and a genetic algorithm as a optimization tool which minimizes performance indices(IAE, ISE and ITAE). Then tuning rules are derived using the tuned parameter sets, potential rule models and a genetic algorithm. Simulation is carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed rules.

  • The new tuning rules of the PID controller for the rejection of load disturbance are proposed incorporating with real-coded genetic algorithms (RCGAs). The optimal gain parameters of the PID controller for a first-order plus time delay model are obtained based on a RCGA. Then tuning formula are derived using the tuned parameters sets potential tuning rule models and another RCGA. The performance criteria of the controller are adopted as ISE, IAE and ITAE. A series of simulation are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed tuning rules.

The optimal parameter sets of the PID controller for step set-point tracking are obtained based on the first-order time delay model and a real-coded genetic algorithm as an optimization tool. As for assessing the performance of the controllers, performance indices(ISE, IAE and ITAE) are adopted. • Using an inner P controller, a tuning rule useful for processes with wide ratios of time delay over time constant is proposed. Internal model control method and pole assignment method are utilized. It can be used for processes with wide range of the ratio of time delay to time constant without incovenience to choose different tuning rules.

  • A newly developed Expert System (ES) for the tuning of thermal power plant control equipment is described. The system is furnished with the rules for controller tuning which were obtained by analysis and arranging the data and knowledge from the experts or tuning records. Based on these rules, automatic tuning or setting of the control parameters is performed in real-time base. The performance of the test equipment, a combination of ES and a boiler simulator, was examined in the automatic tuning test for steam pressure, steam temperature, and load controllers of a constant-pressure once-through boiler model. It was confirmed from the test results that the system is quite promising for future application to actual plants, since the tuning results obtained by the proposed system were similar to those by tuning experts.

  • The idea of expert control is to incorporate a rule based expert system in a feedback control system. In this paper, we present some heuristic rules based on relay experiment for the choice of controller structure and the setting of the controller parameters. Heuristic rules are used as an element of the feedback loop in an auto-tuning PID controller. The algorithms are coded in a form which is as pure as possible and the heuristic logic is implemented with the rules. This paper reports an implementation of an expert controller on microcomputer-based system, including an industrial programmable controller.
