A Study on the Intonational Patterns in English Information Structures (영어 정보구조의 억양양상에 관한 연구)

  • Many researchers have argued about the relationship between information structure and intonation. Their results can be summarized in three main points: the intonation of topic and focus in English information structures is implemented as i) a pitch accent, ii) a tune (a pitch accent + (an) edge tone(s)), or iii) a boundary tone. The purpose of this paper is to study various intonational patterns of topic and focus in English information structures, using natural conversations. In this paper, the types of topics and foci are divided, based on contrastiveness. The topics are classified as five non-contrastive and four contrastive topics. The foci are classified as neutral focus, informational focus, and contrastive focus. The results show that the intonation of the topic in English information structures is mainly implemented as a pitch accent, except for the type of the pronoun topic (Lp) which is not implemented as a pitch accent or a tune. However, the intonation of the focus is implemented as a tune in the neutral focus (Fn) and as a pitch accent or a tune in the informational focus (Fi) and the contrastive focus (Fe). In our discussion and conclusion, we suggest that it is not always true that for the meaning of contrast, the topic or the focus is represented as a $L+H^{\ast}$ pitch accent, which has been the main contrastive intonation from earlier studies.

  • The performance improvement of a single core processor has reached its limit since the circuit density cannot be increased any longer due to overheating. Therefore, the multicore and manycore architectures have emerged as viable approaches and parallel programming becomes more important. Haskell, a purely functional language, is getting popular in this situation since it naturally supports parallel programming owing to its beneficial features including the implicit parallelism in evaluating expressions and the monadic tools supporting parallel constructs. However, the performance of Haskell parallel programs is strongly influenced by the performance of the run-time system including the garbage collector. Though a memory profiling tool namely GC-tune has been suggested, we need a more systematic way to use this tool. Since GC-tune finds the optimal memory size by executing the target program with all the different possible GC options, the GC-tuning time takes too long. This paper suggests a basic divide-and-conquer method to reduce the number of GC-tune executions by reducing the search area by one-quarter for every searching step. Applying this method to two parallel programs, a maximally independent set and a K-means programs, the memory tuning time is reduced by 7.78 times with accuracy 98% on average.

  • Recently technologies have created new principle and theory but the PID control system remains its popularity as the PID controller contains simple structure, including maintenance and parameter adjustment being so simple. The adjust parameter of PID to achieve best response of process which be using time and may be error if user are not expert. Nowadays this problem was solved by develop PID controller which can analysis and auto tune parameter are appropriate with process which used principle of Ziegler ? Nichols but it are expensive and designed for each task. Thus, this paper proposes auto tune PID based on FPGA by use principle of Dahlin which maximum overshoot not over 5 percentages and do not fine tuning again. It have performance in control process are neighboring controller in industrial and simple to use. Especially, It can use various process and low price. The auto tune digital PID processor embedded on chip FPGA XC2S50-5tq-144. The digital PID processor was designed by fundamental PID equation which architectures including multiplier, adder, subtracter and some other logic gate. It was verified by control model of temperature control system.

  • Although the performance of computer hardware is increasing due to the development of manycore technologies, software lacking a proportional increase in throughput. Functional languages can be a viable alternative to improve the performance of parallel programs since such languages have an inherent parallelism in evaluating pure expressions without side-effects. Specifically, Haskell is notably popular for parallel programming because it provides easy-to-use parallel constructs based on monads. However, the scalability of parallel programs in Haskell tends to fluctuate as the number of cores increases, and the garbage collector is suspected to be the source of this fluctuations because it affects both the space and the time needed to execute the programs. This paper uses the tuning tool, GC-Tune, to improve the scalability of the performance. Our experiment was conducted with a parallel plagiarism detection program, and the scalability improved. Specifically, the fluctuation range of the speedup was narrowed down by 39% compared to the original execution of the program without any tuning.

A Learning Method of PID Controller by Jacobian in Multi Variable System (다변수 시스템에서 자코비안을 이용한 PID 제어기 학습법)

  • Generally, PID controller is not suitable to control multi variable system because it is very difficult to tune the PID gains. However, this paper shows that it is not hard to tune the PID gains if we can find a Jacobian matrix of the system. The Jacobian matrix expresses the ratio of output variations according to input variations. It is possible to adjust the input values in order to reduce the output error using the Jacobian. When the colt function is composed of error related terms, the gradient approach can tune the PID gains to minimize the function. In simulation, a hydrofoil catamaran with two inputs and two outputs is applied as a multi variable system. We can easily get the multi variable PID controller by the proposed teaming method. When the controller is compared with LQR controller, the performance is as good as that of LQR controller with a modeling equation.

  • This paper presents a tuneable bandstop resonator with two possible configurations, it can be used to tune its center frequency, or it can be used to tune its bandwidth. The tuneable bandstop resonator has potential application in microwave communications receivers, where it can be used to tune out interfering signals. The proposed resonator is comb actuated, where the resonator's displacement produces different values of frequency or bandwidth, this is achieved by decoupling electromagnetic energy from a main transmission line. The proposed fabrication process for the resonator is by anodic bonding pyrex glass and tow resistivity silicon, where the comb resonator structure is patterned by deep reactive ion etching (DRIE). This paper presents the resonator and actuator design in both configurations, as well as the fabrication process intended for its development.

  • The resonance frequencies, shunt impedances and Q-values for the higher-order modes in our designed cavity are calculated by the computer codes URMEL and MAFIA. A new computer code is developed to calculate the complex tune shifts for the randomness of the higher-order mode frequencies due to the construction errors of a cavity. The results with the construction errors are compared to those fo without error cases for the dipole mode and quadrupole mode.

Thus, this paper proposes auto tune PID by fuzzy logic controller based on FPGA which to achieve real time and small size circuit board. The digital PID controller design to consist of analog to digital converter which use chip TDA8763AM/3 (10 bit high-speed low power ADC), digital to analog converter which use two chip DAC08 (8 bit digital to analog converters) and fuzzy logic tune digital PID processor embedded on chip FPGA XC2S50-5tq-144. The digital PID processor was designed by fundamental PID equation which architectures including multiplier, adder, subtracter and some other logic gate. The fuzzy logic tune digital PID was designed by look up table (LUT) method which data storage into ROM refer from trial and error process. The digital PID processor verified behavior by the application program ModelSimXE. The result of simulation when input is units step and vary controller gain ($K_p$, $K_i$ and $K_d$) are similarity with theory of PID and maximum execution time is 150 ns/action at frequency are 30 MHz. The fuzzy logic tune digital PID controller based on FPGA was verified by control model of level control system which can control level into model are correctly and rapidly. Finally, this design use small size circuit board and very faster than computer and microcontroller.

  • 단일 코어 프로세스의 성능 향상은 전력 소모, 발열 등의 이유로 한계에 달했다. 이에 대한 대안으로 멀티 코어가 등장했으며 매니 코어 기술에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행 중에 있다. 이렇듯 멀티 코어 환경이 보편화됨에 따라 병렬 프로그래밍의 중요성이 더욱 커졌다. 한편, 순수 함수형 언어 Haskell은 부수효과가 없고 다양한 병렬화 도구를 지원함으로써 다가오는 병렬 프로그래밍 시대에 적합한 언어라 할 수 있다. 이때 Haskell 병렬 프로그램의 성능은 메모리 재사용(Garbage Collection) 시간에 큰 영향을 받는다. 그래서 Haskell 병렬 프로그램의 성능 향상, 분석을 위한 메모리 프로파일링 도구가 필요하다. 이미 Haskell이 제공하는 메모리 프로파일링 도구로 ghc-gc-tune이 있지만 실행 속도 측면에서 개선이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 분할 정복법을 이용해서 매 단계마다 탐색 영역을 4분의 1로 줄이도록 ghc-gc-tune을 개선했다. 개선된 ghc-gc-tune을 극대 독립 집합 프로그램과 K-means 프로그램에 적용한 결과, 평균 98%의 정확도로 실행 시간을 평균 7.78배 단축했다.

Transition of the Views on the Mudang Gut Chum (shamanistic dance) (무당굿춤을 바라보는 시각의 전환 - 서울굿과 황해도굿을 중심으로 -)

  • This article is to present that the research on the Mudang Gut Chum should be within the context of the performance of Mudang Gut and examines its meanings and implications with focus on Seoul Mudang Gut Chum and Hwanghae-do Mudang Gut Chum. Seoul and Hwanghae-do Mudang Gut Chums do not exist in the form of simple dance or movement. They feature continuity while serving the function of revealing the existence of spirit and sometimes show the process of the spirit joining the Gut ritual, which means that the Mudang Gut Chum should not be understood as the dance itself only. Instead, care attention should be paid to the status of the tune of Gut where the dance is placed, relationship between the gut and the spirit, and the flow of narrativity. Also, the Mudang Gut Chum has a lot to do with the tune. Looking at the Mudang Gut Chum simply focusing on dancing steps, and the movement of feet and/or hands fails to gain an accurate understanding of the fundamentals of the Mudang Gut Chum. Closely connected to the tune, which is also associated with the grade of the spirit, the dance shows a variety of performances conducted by entering the Gut ritual of the spirit. In that respect, complex views on the Mudang Gut Chum are required. The same applies to the hereditary shaman Mudang Gut as well. The Korean Mudang Gut Chum has a slight difference between the Gangshinmu gut and the hereditary gut but is in basically the same aspect. The Gut Chum holds its meaning in the flow of gutgeori (tune or dance performed during exorcism, a shaman song) and delivers its own meaning in connection with the tune. It is definitely meaningful to focus on the individual movements of a dancing shaman but one should be able to derive the network of meanings that such movements have within the performance of the gutgeori, which means that intensive studies on the field performance and circumstances should be completed before studying the Mudang Gut Chum. In addition, the Mudang Gut Chum discloses the characteristics of the performance group. The Mudang Gut Chum exists in a complex manner. With respects to the status of the spirit, it shows the characteristics of the performance group. It represents the progress of Gut while closely connected with the tune. Therefore, the way of describing the Mudang Gut Chum should be far more than just simply keeping the dance notations. With this in mind, one should investigate and record the Mudang Gut Chum.
