Screening of Pumpkin (Cucurbita spp.) Germplasm for Resistance to Powdery Mildew at Various Stages of Seedlings Growth

  • Powdery mildew (Podosphaera xanthii) causes severe damage to pumpkin crops grown in open fields and plastic house. Initially, we used ten accessions of pumpkin species; Cucurbita pepo (3), C. maxima (2), C. moschata (2), and C. argyrosperma (3) to study the disease progress in different stages of seedling development. Commercial pumpkin varieties were used as susceptible host for inoculum management and young seedlings were inoculated by dusting powdery mildew spores on the cotyledons, 1-true-leaf and 2-true-leaf seedling stages. Based on initial study, we further evaluated 218 pumpkinaccessions for their resistance to powdery mildew in different seedling stages under plastic house. Area under disease progress curve (AUDPC) and relative AUDPC (rAUDPC) was higher in cotyledonary and 1-true-leaf than 2-true-leaf stage. Seedlings at cotyledons and 1-true-leaf seedling stage displayed more susceptibility to powdery mildew. Based on evaluation of 2-true-leaf stage, IT 110859 and IT 278459 from C. pepo and C. argyrosperma identified as resistant (<0.2). Of the 228 pumpkin accessions, 21 (9.2%) pumpkin accessions consisting of C. pepo (2), C. maxima (5), C. moschata (13), and C. argyrosperma (1) exhibited intermediate resistance (<0.4) to powdery mildew and these accessions are useful to growers for its rational management.

주요 광엽잡초 유묘의 형태적 특성을 기초로 한 간이 식별법 (Identification of Major Broad Leaved Weed Seedlings Based on Morphological Characteristics)

  • 농경지에 발생하는 주요 잡초에 대한 유묘기 검색방법을 개발하기 위하여 주요 잡초 60종에 대한 양적, 질적형질을 조사하였다. 잡초 유묘를 동정하는 형질로는 질적형질이 양적형질에 비해 보다 더 유용하였다. 자엽의 형태는 타원형과 광타원형이 가장 많았다. 차풀과 큰메꽃은 자엽의 형태가 넓은 직사각형이었다. 자엽의 형태가 횡광타원형인 초종은 4종이었다. 취명아주 등 22종의 잡초는 자엽의 형태가 1개 이상이었다. 이 중 자엽의 형태가 3가지 이상인 초종은 4종으로서 마디풀과의 참소리쟁이와 여뀌 그리고 대극과의 애기땅빈대와 깨풀이었다. 새팥은 자엽이 지면아래의 종자 속에 남아 있었다. 자엽의 엽두는 원두가 가장 많았다. 자엽의 엽저는 쐐기저가 가장 많았다. 환삼덩굴과 마디풀은 자엽의 엽저가 무엽병저였다. 일부 초종은 제 1본엽기와 제 2본엽기때 본엽의 형태가 각각 상이한 경우도 있었다. 돌콩, 새팥 및 매듭풀은 제 1본엽이 각각 광란형, 심장형, 원형 또는 광도란형이었나 제 2본엽에서는 3초종 모두 3출엽으로 전개되었다. 그리고 자귀풀과 차풀은 제 1, 2본엽의 형태가 우수우상복엽이었다. 본엽의 가장자리는 주로 전연이었으나, 큰도꼬마리를 포함한 6종은 제 1, 2본엽의 엽연이 치상거치였다. 애기땅빈대는 제 1본엽의 엽연이 전연, 제 2본엽의 엽연이 치상거치였다. 명아주과의 흰명아주와 좀명아주의 엽연은 제 1본엽기에는 전연, 제 2본엽기에는 불규칙거치였다. 잡초 유묘 자엽의 양적형질은 질적형질에 비해 종 동정 시 활용도는 떨어지나 초종에 따라서는 매우 유용한 경우도 있었다. 농경지 주요 광엽잡초 유묘에 대한 자엽 및 본엽의 질적 형질을 이용하여 간이 식별법을 제시하였다. 식법법 작성 시 자엽의 형태가 1개 이상인 잡초종에 대해서는 각각의 자엽 형태를 이용하여 종 동정이 가능하도록 하였다.

아미노산 엽면 시비가 멜론 묘의 생육에 미치는 영향 (Effect of the Foliar Application of Amino Acid Mixture on the Growth of Melon Seedlings)

  • 아미노산 엽면 시비가 멜론 묘의 생육에 미치는 영향에 대하여 연구하였다. 처리 시기는 본엽 1매 전개시(Ll)와 2매 전개시(L2)로 나누었고, 아미노산 농도는 무처리구, 10, 20, 30 mg . L$^{-1}$로 설정하였다. Ll에서 생체중과 건물중은 아미노산 처리구에서 높았다. 초장은 3차 조사시에 Ll-30에서 가장 높게 나타났다. L2에서 3차 조사시 생체중은 L2-30처리구에서 높게 나타났다. 초장은 2차와 3차 조사시 L2-30에서 높게 나타났다. 제1본엽의 염장과 엽폭의 경우, Ll의 3차 조사시 처리 효과가 나타났다. L2에서 염장은 처리구간에 유의적인 차이를 보이지 않았고, 엽폭은 3차 조사시에 아미노산 처리구에서 높게 나타났다 제2본엽의 염장과 엽폭은 Ll의 2차와 3차 조사시에 아미노산 처리구들에서 높게 나타났다. L2에서는 처리구간에 유의적인 차이를 보이지는 않았다 제7본엽의 염장과 엽폭은 시비 및 조사 시기에 관계없이 처리간에 유의성을 보이지는 않았다. 이상의 결과, 제1본엽이 전개된 후 아미노산의 농도를 20mg. L$^{-1}$ 이상, 회수를 3회 이상 엽면살포 하거나, 제2본엽이 전개된 후 아미노산을 시비할 경우에는 아미노산 농도를 30 mg . L$^{-1}$으로 설정하고 회수를 2회 이상 시비한다면 생육이 향상된 묘를 생산할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

광질처리에 따른 박 유묘의 생장 및 자엽의 엽록소 함량 변화 (Effect of Blue, Red and Far-red Lights on Seeding Growth and Cotyledon Chlorophyll Content of Lagenaria siceraria Standl)

  • Various types of the seeding of bottle gourd widely used as a rootstock of watermelon has been required to satisfy the farmers need. The study was done to determine the effect of light quality of blue, red and far-red lights treated with light emitting diodes on growth and morphology of bottle goured seeding and chlorophyll content of its cotyledons. The lights were treated in the growth chamber for 7 days to the seeding elapsed 8 days after sowing under natural condition, and 64 hole trays with commercial bedsoil. Plant height, length and diameter of hypocotyl, leaf area of cotyledon and first true leaf, its leaf length, number of true leaves, fraction and total dry weight were measured. Red light shortened and slenderized the hypocotyl, which lengthened by far-red light and thickened by blue light. Plant height was declined in order of far-red light treatment, blue and red lights mainly due to difference of hypocotyl length, Area and length of the first true leaf became smaller and shorter under far-red light than under the other lights. However, blue light increased leaf area of cotyledons. Two cultivars cv. Yongjadaemok and cv. Kunghap had different response to the light treatments in total seedling dry weight(dw); far-red and red light treatments showed the greatest and the least dw of hypocotyl, respectively, while blue and red lights did the greatest dw of the other organs. Among the ratio of each organ dw to total dw, those of hypocotyl and true leaves were different between the light treatments; the highest ratio of hypocotyl dw to total dw was observed in far-red light treatment but the lowest was in red light treatment. Those of the true leaves were the lowest in far-red light and similar response in blue or red light treatment. Chlorophyll content of cotyledons was decreased in order of red light treatment, blue and far-red lights, meaning that short period light treatment may influence photosynthesis of seeding and afterward its growth.

Effect of Photoperiod, Temperature and True-leaf Stage in Bolting Rate of Chicory (Cichorium intybus L. var. sativus)

  • Root chicory (Cichorium intybus L. var. sativus) is potential alternative medicinal and sugar crop which accumulates a high amount of linear polyfructan, inulin in its roots. A problem in root production is that over-wintered stock plants often flower. Once the plant becomes reproductive, stem elongation and root growth slows and floral buds arise from every node, rendering the plants useless for propagation. The objectives of this research was to examine the effectiveness of manipulating environmental factors containing photoperiod, temperature and number of leaf states. The experiment was performed in growth chamber to create two photoperiods (8 h, and 16 h) with three temperature regimes (5$^{\circ}C$/3$^{\circ}C$, 1$0^{\circ}C$/8$^{\circ}C$ and 15$^{\circ}C$/13$^{\circ}C$ day/night temperature) for a total of six treatments on three type of true-leaf stage of plant. Data of bolting rate, shoot and root length, shoot and fresh weight was invetigated in each treatments. This is the first report on changes in bolting rate and shoots and roots production during a whole growing season and differences in the effect of cold and photoperiod treatment depending on the true-leaf stage of plant.

엽령이 다른시기의 생장점 제거가 브로콜리의 생육 및 수량에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Apex Removal at Different Leaf Ages on the Growth and Yield of Broccoli.)

  • 브로콜리의 측지재배에 있어서, 엽령이 다른 시기의 생장점 제거가가 브로콜리의 생육 및 수량에 미치는 영향을 검토하였다. 적심은 육모기중 본엽 2매, 3매, 4매시에 실시하였으며, 무적심을 관행재배로 하였다. 초장은 처리간 생육차이를 보이지 않았으나 생체중은 적심시기가 늦어짐에 따라 감소되는 경향을 보였다. 적심처리의 경우 무적심에 비하여 엽수 및 측지수가 증가하였다. 정화리 형성일은 2매 적심처리에서 무적심에 비하여 3일 정도 빠라졌다. 정화뢰(첫번째 화뢰) 무게는 무적심에서 244g으로 가장 무거우T으며, 적심처리의 경우 무적심에 비하여 엽수 및 측지수가 증가하였다. 정화뢰 형성일은 2매 적심처리에서 무적심에 비하여 3일 정도 빠랄졌다. 정화뢰(첫번째 화뢰) 무게는 무적심에서 244g으로 가장 무거웠으며, 적심처리의 경우 적심시기가 늦어짐에 따라 감소되었다. 2번째 화뢰중은 본엽 2매 적심처리에서 157g으로 가장 무거웠다. 총 화뢰중은 본엽 2매시 적심처리에서 378g으로 가장 무거웠으며, 4매 적심시 196g으로 가장 가벼웠다. 상품수량은 무적심 1,184kg에 비하여 본엽 2매 적심시 1,754kg으로 48%의 증수효과를 보였으며, 본엽 4매 적심시 820kg으로 가장 적었다. 첫 수확일은 본엽 2매 적심처리에서 무적심에 비하여 6일 정도 조기수확이 가능하였다.

인공광의 광원에 따른 실내 지피식물의 생육반응 (A Growth Responses of Indoor Ground Cover Plants according to a Light Source of Aritificial Light)

  • This study was carried out to obtain fundamental information of growth response of ground cover plants under artificial light quality at indoor. Aglaonema 'Silver Queen', Hedera helix L., Hoya carnosa 'Tricolor' and Saintpaulia ionantha 'Frances' were examined under a 400lux light intensity consisted of Mercury lamp, True-lite lamp, incandescent lamp, dark-room and sunlight indoor condition. A data analysis were performed by GLM, Duncan's multiple range test and mean score with SAS program. Results of experiments are as follows; 1. A plant growth status was better showed under the True-lite lamp than sunlight. 2. A Saintpaulia ionantha flower color was responded in the first place, the deep pinkish red color of Saintpaulia ionantha flower was obtained under Mercury lamp and "True-lite lamp", "sunlight", and incandescent lamp were follow. Flower numbers of Saintpaulia ionantha after 60 days tended to decrease under every artificial light quality. 3. Leaf length and leaf width were increased under True-lite lamp, but most of plants was not significantly affected by artificial light quality. 4. A stem length of Hedera helix was increased the highest rank under sunlight also, one of artificial light, the highest increase rank was showed under incandescent lamp. 5. Chlorophyll content was highly increased under Mercury lamp, but was responded poor under incandescent lamp.

  • The effects of dietary fiber on true digestibility of amino acids by growing pigs were studied, using semi-purified diets formulated from alfalfa meal, cassava leaf meal, rubber seed meal and leucacna meal at 20% level. A protein-free diet including 5% cellulose was formulated for correcting the endogenous amino acid loss. Across all the diets, arginine was the most digestible while the least at ileal level was threonine; methionine and/or histidine at fecal level respectively. The true digestibility value of amino acids at ileal level were higher than at fecal level except control diet (cellulose). The true digestibility values at ileal level were similar for all diets but differed at fecal level in different magnitude. These results indicate that undigestible compound in individual feedstuff might confound. True digestibility should be studied together for accurate diet formulation as apparent digestibility decreased when their amino acid concentration in the diet was reduced.

Factors Affecting In vitro True Digestibility of Napiergrass

  • Changes of in vitro true digestibility (IVTD) of Napiergrass (Pennisetum purpureum) were determined by a filter bag system, and their relationships to chemical composition, leaf to stem ratio, plant height, geographic location, climatic factors and harvest interval were studied and used to develop prediction models for the crude protein (CP), acid-detergent fiber (ADF), and neutral-detergent fiber (NDF) contents and IVTD. Partitioning the total variance of IVTD of Napiergrass showed that 80% was attributable to the effect of harvest interval. Days of growth, plant height, leaf/stem ratio, CP, ADF and NDF of Napiergrass had highly significant relationships (p<0.01) with IVTD. The highest coefficient of correlation between the ADF, NDF, and IVTD of Napiergrass and growth degree days was obtained when the base temperature was set at $0^{\circ}C$. Growth degree days could predict ADF, NDF, and IVTD of Napiergrass more accurately than plant height, and plant height is not suitable to predict IVTD.

벼 아소미노리 교배조합 품종의 벼흰잎마름병 저항성 (Resistance of Varieties Bred by Crossing with Asominori to Bacterial Leaf Blight)

  • This study was conducted to test on the resistance of varieties bred by crossing with Asominori to bacterial leaf blight. Nakdongbyeo and Dongjinbyeo which were susceptible to HB 9011, 8 resistant varieties including Ilmibyeo derived from Asominori and Asominori, Hwangok, 13 varieties including Chukoku 45 which were resistance to HB 9011, HB 9022 and HB 9033 were used to screen their res ponce depending on the various screening methods such as the true resistance, the secondary infection resistance and the disease common field test methods, and the results are as follows: Among 13 varieties tested, 11 varieties including llmibyeo showed tme resistance to HB 9011. Less than 1.0cm of disease lesion were developed on these varieties. Disease lesion was not developed on most of the Asominori lines including Daechongbyeo against IIB9011 and 1lmibyeo was also resistance to HB 9011, on this variety disease lesion area rate was 1.2%, and 7 varieties including Hwajinbyeo showed field resistance to HB 9022. Disease lesion area rate were 19.6% on Nakdongbyeo. 15.6% on Dongjinbyeo, from 3.0% to 2.4% on Asominori lines, and 0.5% on the Asominori when screened at disease common area. Disease was not developed on Keumnambyeo. Significant correlation coefficiences were found between the results from the test methods of the true resistance, the field resistance ancl the field resistance at disease common field tests on Asominori lines, but in some cases, even the varieties on which disease lesions developed, showed field resistance to HB 9022 and HB 9033.
