Fenofibrate is a fibric acid derivative that is a strong reducer of triglyceride. Micronozed formulation of fenofibrate has improved bioavailability compared to non-micrornized formulation. This study performed a retrospective comparison of micrornized and non-micrornized fenofibrate (28 in micronized and 51 in non-micronized group) by comparing the means of changes in total triglyceride, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol and TC/HDL ratio in type 2 diabetics with dyslipidemia The result skewed that after 12 weeks of treatment both drugs produced a significant reduction in total triglyceride levels (62% with micronized, 37% with non-micronized). The mean decrease observed for total triglyceride levels were significantly lower for micronized fenofibrate (p<0.001). Both drugs showed a significant reduction for total cholesterol levels (-22% with micronized, -14% with non-micronized fenofibrate). The mean decrease observed for total cholesterol was not significantly different between the two drugs (p>0.05). HDL-cholesterol levels increased by 24% and 15%) with micronized and non-micronized, respectively and the differences from the baseline were statistically significant for both drugs (p<0.05). The mean change of HDL-cholesterol was not significantly different between the two drugs. There was a statistically significant reduction in TC/HBL-cholesterol ratio from baseline for both drugs (7.1 to 4.8 with micronized and 5.1 to 4.5 with non-micronized), and the reduction of TC/HDL-cholesterol ratio tended to be significantly greater with micronized fenofibrate (p<0.05). This study shows that short-term treatment with micronized fenofibrate is more effective than non-micronized fenosbrate in type 2 diabetes patients with dyslipidemia.
This study was performed to determine the risk factors associated with increased body mass index (BMI) in 672 heavy industry men workers. Subjects were examined in March, 2010 to September, 2010 in Gyeongnam province. Height, weight, systolic blood pressure, and diastolic blood pressure were measured. And fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and triglyceride levels were measured by Olympus AU 680, and their BMIs calculated. Age, smoking statue, and alcohol drinking of the workers were surveyed by questionnairs. The mean total cholesterol levels were $190.06{\pm}36.62mg/dL$, HDL-cholesterol $53.65{\pm}11.92mg/dL$, LDL-cholesterol $104.28{\pm}30.31mg/dL$, triglyceride $151.11{\pm}99.53mg/dL$, and fasting blood glucose $96.92{\pm}19.53mg/dL$. Mean systolic blood pressure was $126.08{\pm}13.78mmHg$, and diastolic blood pressure $71.88{\pm}10.45mmHg$. Subjects were categorized into two BMI groups, BMI ${\geq}23$ and BMI ${\leq}22.9$. The subjects with BMI of 23 or above had significantly higher levels of LDL-cholesterol, systolic blood pressure, and triglyceride, with lower levels of HDL-cholesterol. BMI showed the highest level at the age of thirties, increasing with age. BMI of smokers was higher than BMI of non-smokers, not showing a link between alcoholics and non alcoholics. In conclusion, age, systolic blood pressure, and HDL-cholesterol are mostly relevant to the increase of BMI in this study.

For the investigation of the effects of mushrooms on prevention of hypercholesterolemia, dietary hyperc-holesterolemic rats were fed for 2 weeks with basal diet containing 5% G. lucidum, 5% L. edodes, 5% A. judae and 10% G. lucidum, 10% L. ededos or 10% A. judae mushroom. Concentrations of total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, triglyceride, phospholipid, free-cholesterol, cholesteryl ester, VLDL and chylomicron in serum were analyzed. The result obtained are as follows : Concentrations of total cholesterol, LDL, LDL-cholesterol in serum were lowest in the group 6 (10% L. edodes mushroom) and HDL-cholesterol concentration in serum was significantly higher than the concentrations of the control group. Concentrations of triglyceride, phospholipid, free-cholesterol, cholesteryl ester in serum were lower than the concentration of the control group, and the concentrations of triglyceride, cholesteryl ester in group 6 were lower than those of the other groups. Concentrations of phospholipid and free-cholesterol in group 3 were lower than those of the other groups.
A cross-sectional study to determine dietary intake and plasma triglyceride total cholesterol LDL-cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol of 185K Korean men was conducted across three different age groups The younger group (age 21 to 34) was significantly (p<0.001) taller but showed lower (p<0.05) percent body fat than the older group (age 45 to 60) Weight and body mass index was not different among age groups. Older men showed significantly(p<0.01) lower energy and total fat intake than younger men Besides macronutrients, most participants consumed an adequate amount of micronutrients but calcium consumption of the middle age group (age 35 to 44) was less than 75% of RDA In older men plasma triglyceride(207.8$\pm$155.5 mg/dl) total cholesterol (201.4$\pm$40.0 mg/dl) and LDL-cholesterol(106.0$\pm$32.7 mg/dl) concentrations were significantly hight(p<0.001) than in younger men wereas no significant difference was observed in HDL-cholesterol concentration Subjects with a higher BMI(bMI$\geq$25.0) showed significantly higher (p<0.001) triglyceride(200.2$\pm$107.6 mg/dl) total cholesterol(211.0$\pm$40.1 mg/dl) LDC-cholesterol(118.16$\pm$35.5 mg/dl) concentrations and lower(p=0.001) HCL-cholesterol concentration (52.8$\pm$15.9 mg/dl) than subjects with lower BMI(BMI<23.0) Dietary intake of fat cholesterol did not show significant associations with any of the plasma lipid profiles. However, anima fat intake was significantly (p<0.05) correlated with plasma total cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations in the older age group. On the hand percent body fat was correlated (p<0.05) with all of the plasma lipid and lipoprotin concentrations examined for all age groups Results indicate both dietary intake and percent body fat are important determinants of the plasma lipid concentrations is the elderly but only percent body fat or body mass could be valid predictors for the plasma lipid concentrations of the younger age group.
The effect of milk in low and high cholesterol diet was invesigated on serum cholesterol metabolism and lipid contents of serum, aorta, liver of rats. Weanling male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into low(0.01% w/w) and high(1.01% w/w) cholesterol-diets groups. Low cholesterol groups subdivided into four groups ; control group was given water and three milk groups were given low heat milk(LM), ultra-high heat milk(HM), and powder milk(PM), respectivily, instead of water. High cholesterol groups were consisted of three groups ; control, LM, and HM groups. After feeding these experimental diets for six weeks, lipid levels were measured in serum and tissure and dried feces were analyzed for neutral and acidic sterols. Results obtained from this study are as follows : 1) Nutrient intakes, body weight gains and aorta weights did not differ among groups, but liver weights were higher in high cholesterol fed rats than low cholesterol fed rats. 2) Serum protein contents were increased independently by intakes of high cholesterol and milk. 3) Serum total cholesterol and triglyceride levels were increased but phospholipid levels and HDL-cholesterol/total-cholesterol ratios were decreased by high cholesterol in diet. And milk supplementation decreased serum total cholesterol and triglyceride levels but increased phospholipid levels and HDL-cholesterol/total-cholesterol ratios. 4) Contents of cholesterol and triglyceride in aorta and liver were elevated by dietary high cholesterol and lowered by consumption of all three types of milk. 5) Levels of cholesterol and triglyceride among serum, aorta and liver were highly correlated (r=0.7-0.9, p<0.001). 6) Fecal excretion of total sterols was three times high in high cholesterol group, compared with low cholesterol groups and were increased about 20% by milk consumption. 7) The effects of milk were more pronouncely shown in low cholesterol groups and mostly confined to LM and HM groups, rarely shown in PM group. It is concluded from the present study that milk had the hypolipidemic as well as hypocholes terolemic effect, which appears to be mediated through increased fecal bile acid excretion. But the effect is likely to be shaded by excess consumption of dietary cholesterol and was almost absent in powder milk.
Objects. There was an increase in obese population due to eating habits resulted in modernization of lifestyle and the change of the tendency to conduct the physical activity, in order words, the reduction in the range of kinetic energy. Obesity is viewed as a major risk factor for serious health problems, including heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes, and certain forms of cancer as well as for psychological and social problems owing to our fat-phobic society. In the present study, we investigate the weight loss thanks to giving Handayulso-tang(HD) medication of Taeum-in to induced obesity rats and its effects on lipid metabolism, given that their behavior patterns are changed according to their constitution. Methods: The extracts of Handayulso-tang was orally administered to the rats of HD group 200mg/200g of rats weight every day for 6 weeks, and the control group were fed with equal amount of saline. And measured the body weight and total cholesterol, triglyceride, free fatty acid and total lipid contents in serum in obese rats. Results: 1. The body weight in HD group were decreased. 2. The contents of serum total cholesterol and triglyceride in HD group were decreased and statistically showed the significant difference compared with the control group. 3. The contents of serum free fatty acid and total lipid in HD group were decreased, but did not statistically show the significant difference compared with the control group. Conclusion: Based on the above results, we know that Handayulso-tang have effects on the decrease of the body weight and the contents of serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, free fatty acid and total lipid So it could be concluded that Handayulso-tang can help the treatment of obesity.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between Lipid profiles and periodontal diseases in Korea adults. The date from the 2013, 2014 Korean National Health and Nutrition Survey were used, and 8,854 subjects over 30 years were included in the analysis. periodontal disease was assessed using the Community periodontal Index. Study participants with HDL between ${\leq}40mg/dL$(high) were 1.39 times(95% CI=1.16 to 1.66) as likely to have periodontal disease as those with normal levels and those with Triglyceride ${\geq}200mg/dL$(high) were 1.14 times(95% CI=1.02 to 1.27) as likely to have periodontal disease as those with normal levels. positive significant association was observed between serum lipid profiles and periodontal disease; however, further studies need to be conducted to understand the actual relationship between STC levels and periodontitis and to establish causality and directional association.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of the triglyceride and glucose(TyG) index to predict the risk of hyperuricemia in Korean adults. This study included 14,266 men and 9,033 women over 20 years old who underwent health screenings from 2017 to 2019 at a general hospital in Seoul. To confirm the risk of hyperuricemia and predictive ability of the TyG index, logistic regression analysis and ROC curves were obtained. The accuracy of the TyG index for predicting hyperuricemia was 0.68, 0.61 for men and 0.67 for women(respectively p<0.001). The risk of hyperuricemia in the TyG index was 1.69 times higher in the fourth quartile than in the first quartile, 2.03 times higher in men and 2.07 times higher in women(respectively p<0.05). Thus the TyG index was not of high diagnostic usefulness as a screening test for hyperuricemia, but it was related to the TyG index and hyperuricemia.
Commonly used spices in Korean cooking (red pepper powder, garlic, ginger) were evaluated for anti-obesity properties and effects on triglyceride (TG) and cholesterol in blood and adipose tissues in rats fed a high fat (20%) diet. SD rats were raised for four weeks on either a normal diet (ND, based on the AIN-93M diet), high fat diet (HFD, supplemented with 16% lard oil in the ND), or diets containing 5% red pepper powder (RPP), garlic or ginger. These spices significantly decreased weight gain compared to HFD, but garlic and ginger showed a greater effect on reducing weight gain than RPP. The weights of liver and epididymal and perirenal fat pads in garlic and ginger diet groups were lower than those of the HFD groups (p < 0.05). The garlic and ginger also decreased triglyceride and cholesterol contents in liver and epididymal and perirenal fat pad, reversing the higher levels seen in HFD. RPP, garlic and ginger supplemented diets were effective in lowering serum triglyceride and cholesterol levels (p< 0.05). These results indicated that garlic and ginger more effectively suppressed the effects of HFD on body fat gain and lipid values of adipose tissues and serum than RPP.
This study was conducted to draw out prevalence and the risk factors of diabetes mellitus and impaired fasting glucose for adults,(age 30-69). The subjects were 2096 adults, who had regular health examinations between January and December of 1999 at K Hospital in Seoul. The data was analyzed using chi-square test, unpaired t-test and logistic regression. Diabetes Mellitus and impaired fasting glucose were diagnosed by ADA (American Diabetes Association, 1997) criteria. The results were as follows: 1. Mens' prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus was 7.9% and womens' prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus was 3.8%. Mens' prevalence of impaired fasting glucose was 10.4% and womens' prevalence of impaired fasting glucose was 6.5%. Prevalences of Diabetes Mellitus and impaired fasting glucose increased with age. 2. Prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus and impaired fasting glucose of obese subjects (relative body weight>=162) was higher than that of overweight subjects (110<=relative body weight<=119) in men and women. 3. The diagnoses of Diabetes Mellitus and impaired fasting glucose increased with systolic blood pressure and triglyceride. 4. Significant factors associated with diabetes in the logistic regression best gut model were age, relative body weight, systolic blood pressure, triglyceride in men, and systolic blood pressure in women. In conclusion, as age, weight, systolic blood pressure and triglyceride get higher, Diabetes Mellitus and impaired fasting glucose prevalence also increases, porportionally.
