  • Weather like rain, strong wind or snowfall may make the road condition deteriorated and sometimes induce traffic accidents, which lead to severe traffic congestion, thereby travelers may change their destinations elsewhere. Although origin-destination trip information is required to analyze transportation planning in urban area, there are little researches on the relationship between weather condition and travel patterns. This paper investigates the characteristics of travel patterns on expressway in rainy days of 2006. We compare the normal travel patterns with those of rainy days by the travel distance for each vehicle type. Results show that traffic volume and travel distance have been reduced in rainy days as we expect, and also show different travel patterns for weekday and weekend.

  • Travel-time is considered the most typical and preferred traffic information for intelligent transportation systems(ITS). This paper proposes a real-time travel-time prediction method for a national highway. In this paper, the K-nearest neighbor(KNN) method is used for travel time prediction. The KNN method (a nonparametric method) is appropriate for a real-time traffic management system because the method needs no additional assumptions or parameter calibration. The performances of various models are compared based on mean absolute percentage error(MAPE) and coefficient of variation(CV). In real application, the analysis of real traffic data collected from Korean national highways indicates that the proposed model outperforms other prediction models such as the historical average model and the Kalman filter model. It is expected to improve travel-time reliability by flexibly using travel-time from the proposed model with travel-time from the interval detectors.

  • In order to solve the traffic problem in jeju, we must reduce demand for car travel. In addition, demand for passenger travel by public transport policy is needed for conversion. And to improve the quality of public transport services are desperately needed. The purpose of this study, personal characteristics of the trip traveler and the relationship between transportation choice, and personal effectiveness as a factor in travel costs and travel time on the impact of transportation choices will investigate. Restructure its public transportation routes, when to switch to buses to car traffic on the data as a basis for the factors that may be. In addition to improving the quality of public transport services is expected to be able to contribute. To study the performance of the May 2010 survey was conducted. And multinominal logit model were conducted. According to the analysis, People who own homes and families with more than 5 people are likely to use cars. If a prolonged travel time is likely to use buses. However, increasing the cost of travel increases the likelihood that the car is available.

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify motives, itinerary and general patterns associated with the traveling of the upper class in the Chosun Dynasty based on twenty travel accounts of Mt. Chungryang. In addition, previous studies were referred to in order to compare these trips to Mt. Chungryang with those which were undertaken to Mt. Kumgang so as to identify the unique characteristics of those involved with the trips to Mt. Chungryang and of these trips in themselves. Through this process, unique characteristics, such as the travelers' academic backgrounds and place of origin, as well as how these travelers' relationship with their teachers influenced the motivation for these trips were uncovered, as were the processes through which travel schedules and companions were selected. Moreover, the researcher identified similarities and differences between the travel of Mt. Chungryang and Mt. Kumgang in terms of the travelers' motivation for the trip, the transportation methods they employed, and the kind of accommodation they sought. Moreover while similarities were also uncovered with regards to the travel practices of the literati class during this time, differences emerged in terms of their travel dates and schedules.

  • Recent studies on business performance in the operation of travel agency services note the importance of non-financial factors, in addition to financial factors. They also indicate that in order to enhance the business performance in travel agency services, it is necessary to emphasize the most competitive key factors based on the understanding of the circumstances with which those services are faced. The analyses of business performance in travel services and of related research Papers have showed that the major factors influencing the operation of travel agency services include the relationship with tourism-related companies the introduction of e-commerce and knowledge-based management, the services of employed workers, and brand awareness and advertising. The present study attempts to propose an approach to the efficient operation of travel agency services by reviewing and analyzing the different studies regarding these factors. To do so, this study employs the existing study reports and publications related to the operation of travel services, focusing mainly on literature review. The paper is composed of four chapters: The first is an introductory chapter; Chapter 2 provides the theoretical background; in Chapter 3 an analysis of the previous studies is attempted; and Chapter 4 presents the results of analysis and other considerable suggestions.

  • As visiting of Chinese tourists to Korea have increased gradually, Chinese people who use online travel reservation services for their visits to Korea have increased accordingly. In addition, the growth of the online reservation services in China is very rapid. Therefore, it is necessary to study the factors affecting the Chinese tourists' intention to use the online travel reservation services in order to advance e-business in the travel industry. This paper presents a new research model based on Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) including perceived risk, service factors, online reviews and user satisfaction. Also, it analyzes factors affecting the Chinese tourists' intention to use the online travel reservation services. The results of this study show that the key influencers of the online travel reservation services are perceived usefulness, perceived ease, and perceived risk. Additionally, based on these results, this paper proposes practical suggestions to solve the existing problems and improve online travel reservation websites in China.

  • The purpose of this study was not only to understand what relations the airlines and the travel agencies, who have developed mutually cooperative relation, forge as a supplier and receiver in light of distribution channel but also to identify how they effect conflict and partnership performance, by which it leads to find how two organizations, i.e., the airlines and the travel agencies should be able to develop a business partner relation to grow together. The findings from the actual analysis were as follows. Firstly, the distribution relation characteristics between the airlines and the travel agencies had a significant effect on conflict. Secondly, the conflict between the airlines and the travel agencies had a significant effect on partnership performance. Thirdly, the distribution relation characteristics between the airlines and the travel agencies had a significant effect on partnership performance both the airlines and the travel agencies.

  • This paper suggested an approach to characterize travel choice behaviors using the implicit price instead of the indirect utility. The choice criterion to compare the implicit prices of available trip options was developed from the utility maximization problem of a trip maker which is supposed to choose the best option from the available ones differentiated by only by the quantitative attributes such as travel cost and time but also by qualitative attributes such as comfort and safety. The utility maximization problem is constructed under household production theory, and is incorporated with a special kind of joint homogeneous production functions. The implicit price of a certain trip option is the sum of the monetary price and the multiple of travel time and the value-of-travel-time, and the value-of-travel-time refers to the portion of wage, which can be assignable to the trip-making activity. This choice criterion is statistically identifiable, and behaviorally plausible. Moreover, this criterion has the expression simpler than the indirect utility, and therefore could be an effective target of the statistical estimation for travel choice behaviors.

  • Typical activity-based travel analysis has been focused on passenger travel using household survey data. The current research focuses on freight transport using one-day travel survey data. Passenger travel can be seen as the outcome of traveller's subjective decision-making, whereas freight transport is the outcome of shipper or transport company's optimized scheduling. The research conducts an activity-based analysis of freight-vehicle trip chains. In particular, the research focuses on the difference in travel pattern between shipper-oriented private vehicle and transport company-oriented business vehicle. The research analyzed the travel diary of freight vehicles collected as part of the third national logistic survey in 2005. The diary is freight driver's one-day travel record including the information of loading capacity, item transported, destination, arrival time, etc. The analysis results show the difference between private and business vehicles in the travel pattern regarding the sequences of destination, destination type and item transported and the multi-dimensional information of the three sequences.
