  • Studies on the effects of layered silicate content on the AC electrical treeing and breakdown behaviors of epoxy/layered silicate nanocomposites were carried out in needle-plate electrode geometry. Wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) analysis and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observation showed that 1 wt% of the multilayered silicate was fully exfoliated into nano-sized monolayers in the epoxy matrix however, over 3 wt% of the silicate was in an intercalated state. When 1 wt% layered silicates were incorporated, an electrical tree was initiated in 439 min and propagated at a speed of 2.3 ${\mu}m$/min after applying 781.4 kV/mm, representing a decreased in starting initiation time by a factor of 11.0 and increase in propagation speed by a factor 8.2 in comparison with neat epoxy resin. These values were in great decline after the layered silicate content was increased to 3wt% which implies that the exfoliated silicate blocked the tree initiation and propagation processes effectively. However the effect was largely decreased in the intercalated state.

  • We propose a heuristic buffer management scheme that uses both positive and negative acknowledgments to provide scalability and reliability. Under our scheme, most receiver nodes only send negative acknowledgments to their repair nodes to request packet retransmissions while some representative nodes also send positive acknowledgments to indicate which packets can be discarded from the repair node's buffer. Our scheme provides scalability because it significantly reduces the number of feedbacks sent by the receiver nodes. In addition, it provides fast recovery of transmission errors since the packets requested from the receiver nodes are almost always available in their buffers. Our scheme also reduces the number of additional retransmissions from the original sender node or upstream repair nodes. These features satisfy the original goal of treebased protocols since most packet retransmissions are performed within a local group.

  • In this paper, we propose a new preorder tree method for binary images, named the Compact Complementary Quadtree (CCQ). In the proposed method we use type codes for representing nodes in the quadtree instead of using the symbols G, B, and W. From the experimental results, we have confirmed that the CCQ has a higher compression ratio than of the DF-expression. CCQ can be effectively applied to progressive transmission of binary images such as line drawings, geographical maps, and halftones.

  • In multiparty multimedia communication, each participant not only receives information from other participants but also generates real-time data streams to distribute to others and therefore the difference between source and destination is not clear in terms of data transmission. During a teleconference session, many sub-multicast trees may be generated to exchange information to specific members within the multicast group and if those sub-multicast trees use the same fixed multicast tree, the blocking probability will be high and it is hard to provide QoS for each sub-multicast group. Also, even though there exits some shortcuts between each sub-multicast group, fixed multicast tree does not allow to use those shortcuts. Thus to overcome these problems. We propose a network resource reservation protocol and show that its effectiveness in terms of blocking probability and network resources usage.

  • In this work, the correlation between the PD Patterns and the electrical tree propagation has been investigated by use of the specimen removed from the insulation of the real 154 kV XLPE underground power cables. As a result, it could be deduced that the PD pattern regarding electrical trees depends on their type which could be classified into three different distinct groups such as branch-bush mixed. Considering the results of our investigation, if the partial discharge magnitude is only considered for the diagnosis of the cable system, it is possible to draw a wrong decision. Therefore, it is possible to propose that the time characteristics of PD pattern should be taken into account for the diagnosis of the cable system in addition to the conventional $\Phi$-q-n characteristics.

  • In this paper, we present an approach to transmit data from the source to the destination through a minimal path (least-cost path) in a computer network of n nodes. The motivation behind our approach is to address the problem of finding a minimal path between the source and destination. From the work we have studied, we found that a Steiner tree with bounded Steiner vertices offers a good solution. A novel algorithm to construct a Steiner tree with vertices and bounded Steiner vertices is proposed in this paper. The algorithm finds a path from each source to each destination at a minimum cost and minimum number of Steiner vertices. We propose both the sequential and parallel versions. We also conducted a comparative study of sequential and parallel versions based on time complexity, which proved that parallel implementation is more efficient than sequential.

  • Nondestructive methods to check the vitality of trees and to find out internal decay of old-giant trees include the use of electrical resistance, ultrasound transmission time, microdrilling, and infrared thermography etc. Among these, ultrasound transmission offers some advantages compared to others such as it is an entirely nondestructive detection method and it can be applied to very big trees. However, the ultrasound equipment is comparatively expensive and not broadly spread yet. On the other hand, Shigometer is versatile to be applied to check vitality of the tree and find out internal decay. Electrical conductivity of plant tissues is a very useful characteristics to determine the vitality and internal decay of trees. Electrical resistance of cambial area tells about the vitality of a tree and electrical resistance of heartwood reveals discoloration or decay of it. For determination of the vitality of the tree, the standard equation for calibration of measured electrical resistances should be developed by measuring and analyzing electrical resistance from at least 30-40 trees of the same species with that tree. All the factors, especially tree species, diameter of the stem, and temperature, which can altered the electrical resistance of trees, should be taken into consideration in the development of the equation. If the standard equation is developed for old-giant trees that we should conserve, it will be very useful. In addition, periodical and continued measuring of a certain tree will help to determine the condition of the tree by comparing the measurement with accumulated data of the tree. Measuring electrical resistance of wood might not require the standard equation. But it also needs to check electrical resistance of sound wood of the same tree species. If the stems that should be examined is thicker than 40cm, it is better to use the ultrasound measurement combined to Shigometer.

  • ${\mu}TESLA$ broadcast authentication protocol have been developed by many researchers for providing authenticated broadcasting message between receiver and sender in sensor networks. Those cause authentication delay Tree-based ${\mu}TESLA$[3] solves the problem of authentication delay. But, it has new problems from Merkel hash tree certificate structure. Such as an increase in quantity of data transmission and computation according to the number of sender or parameter of ${\mu}TESLA$ chain. ${\mu}TPCT$-based ${\mu}TESLA$[4] has an advantages, such as a fixed computation cost by altered Low-level Merkel has tree to hash chain. However, it only use the sequential values of Hash chain to authenticate ${\mu}TESLA$ parameters. So, It can't ensure the success of authentication in lossy sensor network. This paper is to propose the improved method for Tree-based ${\mu}TESLA$ by using XOR-based chain. The proposed scheme provide advantages such as a fixed computation cost with ${\mu}$TPCT-based ${\mu}TESLA$ and a message loss-tolerant with Tree-based ${\mu}TESLA$.

  • In the cluster-tree network which covers wide area network and has many nodes for monitoring purpose traffic is concentrated around the sink. There are long transmit delay and high data loss due to the intensive traffic when IEEE 802.15.4 is adapted to the cluster-tree network. In this paper we propose Dynamic Channel Allocation algorithm which dynamically allocates channels to increase the channel usage and the transmission success rate. To evaluate the performance of DCA, we assumed the monitoring network that consists of a cluster-tree in which sensing data is transmitted to the sink. Analysis uses the traffic data which is generated around the sink. As a result, DCA is superior when much traffic is generated. During the experiment assuming the least amount of traffic, IEEE 802.15.4, has the minimum length of active period and 90% data transmission success rate. However DCA maintains 11.8ms of active period length and results in 98.9% data transmission success rate.
