A novel approach based on a nonlinear compensator is prposed to prevent 'windup', which is caused by the saturation of the acutator and the integral action of the controller. The anti-windup compensator is located between the conventional linear controller, designed neglecting the saturation, and the actuator. It was proven based on the describing function method that, if the closed loop control systems are stable assuming no saturation, then there may exist a range of compensator gain which prevents any limit-cycle. The computer simulation results show that the compensator proposed in the manuscript can eliminate the limit cycle and improve the transient response.

Power system stabilizer act efficiently to damp the electromechanical oscillations in interconnected power systems. This paper presents an algorithm for the optimal parameter selection of a power system stabilizer in two-area power systems with a series HVDC link. This method is one of the classical techniques by allocating properly pole-zero positions to fit as closely as desired the ideal phase lead between the voltage reference and the generator electrical power and by changing the gain to produce a necessary damping torque over the matched frequency range. Control of HVDC converter and inverter are used a constant current loop. Proper parameters of PI controllers are obtain based on the Root-locus technique in other to have sufficient speed and stability margin to cope with charging reference values and disturbance. The small signal stability arid transient stability studies using the PSS parameters obtained from this method show that a natural oscillation frequency of the studycase system is adequately damped. Also the simulation results using the HVDC converter and inverter parameters obtained from this proposed method show proper current control characteristics. The simulation used in the paper was performed by the Power System Toolbox software program based on MATLAB.
In order to achieve high performance vector control, it is essential to measure accurate ac current. The errors generated from current path are inevitable, and they could be divided into two categories: offset error and scaling error. The current data including these errors cause periodic speed ripples which are one and two times of stator electrical frequency respectively. Since these undesirable ripples bring about bad influences to motor driving system, a compensation algorithm must be needed in the control algorithm of the motor drive. In this paper, a new compensation algorithm is proposed. The signal of the integrator output of the d-axis current regulator is chosen and processed to compensate the current measurement errors. The compensation of the current measurement errors is easily implemented to smooth the signal of the integrator output of the d-axis current regulator by subtracting the DC offset value or rescaling the gain of the hall sensor. Therefore, the proposed algorithm has several features: the robustness of the variation of the mechanical parameters, the application of the steady and transient state, the easy implementation, and less computation time.
Due to the inherent feedforward of load current, capacitor current (CC) control shows a fast transient response that makes it suitable for the power supplies used in various portable electronic devices. However, considering the effect of the outer voltage loop, the stable range of the duty-cycle is significantly diminished in CC controlled buck converters. To investigate the stability effect of the outer voltage loop on buck converters, a CC controlled buck converter with a proportion-integral (PI) compensator is taken as an example, and its second-order discrete-time model is established. Based on this model, the instability caused by the duty-cycle is discussed with consideration of the outer voltage loop. Then the dynamical effects of the feedback gain of the PI compensator and the equivalent series resistance (ESR) of the output capacitor on the CC controlled buck converter with a PI compensator are studied. Furthermore, the design-oriented closed-loop stability criterion is derived. Finally, PSIM simulations and experimental results are supplied to verify the theoretical analyses.

In this paper, controller Propose to prevent compressor surge and improve the transient response of the fuel flow control system of turbojet engine. Turbojet engine controller is designed by applying Artificial Neural Network PID control algorithm and make an inference by applying Artificial Neural Network Error Back Propagation Algorithm. To prevent any surge or a flame out event during the engine acceleration or deceleration, the ANN PID controller effectively controls the fuel flow input of the control system. ANN PID results are used as the fuel flow control inputs to prevent compressor surge and flame-out for turbo-jet engine and the controller is designed to converge to the desired speed quickly and safely. Using MATLAB to perform computer simulations verified the performance of the proposed controller. Response characteristics pursuant to the gain were analyzed by simulation.

A novel pneumatic artificial muscle actuator (PAM actuator), which has achieved increased popularity to provide the advantages such as high strength and high power/weight ratio, low cost, compactness, ease of maintenance, cleanliness, readily available and cheap power source, inherent safety and mobility assistance to humans performing tasks, has been regarded during the recent decades as an interesting alternative to hydraulic and electric actuators. However, some limitations still exist, such as the air compressibility and the lack of damping ability of the actuator bring the dynamic delay of the pressure response and cause the oscillatory motion. Then it is not easy to realize the performance of transient response of pneumatic artificial muscle manipulator (PAM manipulator) due to the changes in the external inertia load with high speed. In order to realize satisfactory control performance, a variable damper-MagnetoRheological Brake (MRB), is equipped to the joint of the manipulator. Superb mixture of conventional PID controller and a phase plane switching control method brings us a novel controller. This proposed controller is appropriate for a kind of plants with nonlinearity, uncertainties and disturbances. The experiments were carried out in practical PAM manipulator and the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm was demonstrated through experiments, which had proved that the stability of the manipulator can be improved greatly in a high gain control by using MRB with phase plane switching control method and without regard for the changes of external inertia loads.

This paper proposes a controller design method using the evolutionary computation algorithm and the fuzzy logic to control the wafer temperature in rapid thermal processing. First, we design the feedforward static controller to provide the control powers of the lamps for the given steady state temperature. Second, the feedforward dynamic controller is designed for the additional control powers to achieve a given transient response. These feedforward controllers are implemented by using the fuzzy logic to act as a global nonlinear controller over a wide range of operating points. The parameters of these controllers are optimized by using the evolutionary computation algorithm so that it can be used when the mathematical model is not available. In addition, the feedback error controller is introduced to compensate the feedforward controllers when there exist disturbances and modeling errors. The gain of feedback error controller is also obtained by the evolutionary computation algorithm. Through simulations, we verify the proposed control system can give a satisfactory performance.
In this paper a new method for the design of a simple PI controller is presented and it has been applied in the control of a Boost based PFC rectifier. The Strength Pareto evolutionary algorithm, which is based on the Pareto Optimality concept, used in Game theory literature is implemented as a multi-objective optimization approach to gain a good transient response and a high quality input current. In the proposed method, the input current harmonics and the dynamic response have been assumed as objective functions, while the PI controller's gains of the PFC rectifier (Kpi, Tpi) are design variables. The proposed algorithm generates a set of optimal gains called a Pareto Set corresponding to a Pareto Front, which is a set of optimal results for the objective functions. All of the Pareto Front points are optimum, but according to the design priority objective function, each one can be selected. Simulation and experimental results are presented to prove the superiority of the proposed design methodology over other methods.
An add-on type output regulator is proposed in this paper. By an add-on controller we mean an additional controller which operates harmonically with a pre-designed one. The role of the add-on controller is to reject a sinusoidal disturbance of unknown magnitude and phase but with known frequency. Advantages of the proposed controller include that (1) it can be used only when the performance of disturbance rejection needs to be enhanced, (2) when it is turned on or off, unwanted transient can be avoided (i.e., bumpless transfer), (3) it is designed for perfect disturbance rejection not just for disturbance reduction, (4) ability for perfect rejection is preserved even with uncertain plant model. This design may be promising for optical disc drive (ODD) systems in which disc eccentricity results in a sinusoidal disturbance. For ODD systems, the sensitivity function obtained by the pre-designed controller, which may have been designed by the lead-lag, $H_{\infty}$, or DOB (disturbance observer) technique, does not change much with the add-on controller except at the frequency of the disturbance. Since the add-on controller does the job of rejecting major eccentricity disturbance, the gain of the pre-designed controller does not have to be too high.

This paper presents a nonlinear sliding mode control (SMC) scheme with a variable damping ratio for interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs). First, a nonlinear sliding surface whose parameters change continuously with time is designed. Actually, the proposed SMC has the ability to reduce the settling time without an overshoot by giving a low damping ratio at the initial time and a high damping ratio as the output reaches the desired setpoint. At the same time, it enables a fast convergence in finite time and eliminates the singularity problem with the upper bound of an uncertain term, which cannot be measured in practice, by using a simple adaptation law. To improve the efficiency of a system in the constant torque region, the control system incorporates the maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) algorithm. The stability of the nonlinear sliding surface is guaranteed by Lyapunov stability theory. Moreover, a simple sliding mode observer is used to estimate the load torque and system uncertainties. The effectiveness of the proposed nonlinear SMC scheme is verified using comparative experimental results of the linear SMC scheme when the speed reference and load torque change under system uncertainties. From these experimental results, the proposed nonlinear SMC method reveals a faster transient response, smaller steady-state speed error, and less sensitivity to system uncertainties than the linear SMC method.
